NetBIOS broadcast traffic not directed to all network interfaces

Hi folks,
Using a packet sniffer (WireShark), I've found that my Mac broadcasts NetBIOS Name Service (NBNS) traffic over my en1 (WiFi) interface but not over the ppp0 interface used for my Mac's PPTP VPN client connection. As I'm experimenting with enabling Windows computer names over a PPTP VPN from my Mac I was wondering... how can I configure my Mac to direct NBNS traffic over the ppp0 interface?
Thanks,
Shaun

IGMP snooping may be enabled by default on the 6509. Disabling it may solve your problem.

  • Solaris command to show all network interfaces in a server (plumb/unplumb)?

    Hi there,
    Is there a Solaris command to show all the network interfaces in a server
    (plumb/unplumb etc...).
    I have a V880 that has an eri0 on board, plumbed up. It also has a couple
    of ge0, ge1, and ce0, and a qfe card.
    ifconfig -a only shows eri0.
    (I am using something like "dladm show-link", but this is really for
    the link-aggregation).
    How do I show the remaining network interfaces?
    Thanks
    Tony

    You can see all installed interfaces by running 'grep network /etc/path_to_inst'. An example:
    grep network path_to_inst
    "/node@1/pci@8,600000/network@1" 0 "ge"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/network@1,1" 0 "eri"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/pci@2/network@0" 0 "ce"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/pci@2/network@1" 1 "ce"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/pci@2/network@2" 2 "ce"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/pci@2/network@3" 3 "ce"
    "/node@1/pci@9,600000/network@2" 4 "ce"
    shows, ge0, eri0, ce0 - ce4

  • BUG: Airtunes does not work on all networks

    I have a brand new AX. When configured as a standalone wireless network for Airtunes, the iTunes errors out with "Unknown Error -15000" on 10.5.8, iTunes 8.2.1, IPV6:Auto, Firewall:Set to... or Allow all...
    I only had two networks to test this feature on and Airtunes worked fine on an Airport based network but not on a non-Airport based one. The Tech specs say nothing about restrictions like this.

    It sounds like the router controlling the network that you are attaching to is blocking that streaming traffic.

  • How traffic is directed in MPLS network? Via ldp LSPs or via RSVP LSPs

    My question is basicly to understand how traffic is treated.
    Lets assume our topology is :
    A-----------------------------B------------------------------------C--------------------------------------------D
    1-) if we just enable MPLS under all interfaces, LDP labels are exchanged with each peer. At that moment   RIB, LIB, FIB and LFIB are created on all routers. So LDP LSPs are created dynamicly. but  If i ping "loopback D"  from router A, there will be IP routing or LABEL switching.  will routing make routing by looking IP address at each hop or labels will be swapped at each hop ?
    2-) If we enable MPLS traffic engineering capability and create a tunnel interface between router A and router D, vice versa. At that moment, Router A will have :
    -simple IGP reachability to Router D,
    -Dynamic LDP LSP  and
    -RSVP tunnel.
    what about now, Which one of the paths above  my traffic will follow ? do I have to direct my traffic to tunnel interface signaled via RSVP. Is there any precedence for choosing the path that traffic will be addressed ?

    for second secenario, i have found that I have to write
    "tunnel mpls traffic-eng autoroute announce " other wise traffic will always follow LDP signaled paths. In order to get all traffic inside "tunnel" we should execute that command.  once you write that command you see that ;
    Before executing command;
    R1#sh ip route
    O       3.3.3.3 [110/129] via 3.3.3.3, 00:07:08, serial0/0
    R1#show mpls forwarding-table
    18     18          3.3.3.3/32        0          Se0/0      point2point
    After executing command;
    R1#sh ip route
    O       3.3.3.3 [110/129] via 3.3.3.3, 00:07:08, Tunnel0
    R1#show mpls forwarding-table
    18     Pop tag [T] 3.3.3.3/32        0          Tu0        point2point
    Hope you see my point, router doesnt decide to use RSVP signaled LSP itself, we shoud trig router to use RSVP signalled LSP.

  • Broadcasting settings not transported at all

    Hi Community,
    I transported object BRSE (broadcasting object) with the Transport Connection (RSA1 transaction) from development system to the test one. I also transported previously the object TMPL (the Web Template in which I customized the broadcasting).
    The transportation was succesfull, everything was transported Ok except from the broadcasting schedulling settings. I'm using the option Schedulling in SAP Backgroud Processing.
    I really don't know why?
    I'll appreciate any help on this issue.
    Best regards,

    The problem for me it turned out that my locale settings were different on each machine. One US one UK. I set the language settings in the CC launcher, and had to reinstall all the apps, then everything was fine.

  • Smf / sometimes does not configure network interfaces in single-user mode?

    From http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/14785
    When booting into single user mode, I often get a message
    on the console
    t_optmgmt: System error: Cannot assign requested addressand only the loopback interface is configured (lo0 inet, and lo0 inet6).
    The system's dnet0 interface is not plumbed any more. Configuration
    for the dnet0 network interface is via a static ip address; hostname
    in /etc/hostname.dnet0, and and ip v4 address for that hostname in
    /etc/hosts. This was a Solaris 10 x86 system, but the same problem
    has also been observed on Solaris 10 sparc, and the hme0
    interface.
    svcs -x in single-user mode reports no problems.
    Changing to multi-user mode by typing Ctrl-D still does not
    configure the real network interface.
    One thing that I've noticed is that smf's log file
    /etc/svc/volatile/network-physical:default.log
    is missing, when the nic interface was not configured.
    It seems that the problem with unconfigured network interfaces
    does not happen when I boot directly into multi-user mode.
    Why isn't the physical interface plumbed and configured when
    booting into single user mode on S10 b69?

If i will be connecting my laptop to various IP whereever i go, so do i need to configure network setting again and again ? isn't there any auto network configuration so that i can connect internet where ever i go and let the system auto configure network settings like in windows XP auto IP configuration detect.
    7. etc/nsswitch.conf
    in this i can't see "hosts: files" but i could see rest of the details. so I inserted "hosts: files dns" in the third line and saved.
    I ran the following command in the terminal to find the details:
    #ypmatch host-name hosts
    ypmatch: the domainname hasn't been set on this machine
    (how to set domain name can anyone tell me?)
    #move/etc/netmasks: not found

    ypwhich: the domainname has'nt been set to this machine
    #nismatch nameserver-name hosts.org-dir
    hosts.org-dir: Error in accessing NIS+ cold file.......is NIS+ installed?
    actually during installation i selected DNS type for network giving a wrong nameserver and domain got skipped later
    #getent ipnodes dns (no response)
    so all these things i did and found by seeing the forum guidelines. I can see the network connection has receivinh and sent packets seems to be working but can't browse internet, also can't ping a website.
    if anyone had the same problem but found the answer than kindly let me know. I am new to solaris but i am trying my best.
    awaiting reply from gurus

  • [SOLVED] Network interface enp2s0 no longer detected

    Hello,
    Yesterday after rebooting, right after Grub, systemd-fsck does its stuff (clearing blocks, etc...) then nothing.
    After a quick research I've found that removing "quiet" from the Grub command line would allow more messages to be displayed, which was quite helpful.
    This is in fact not a partition mounting problem, here is what I have:
    [ OK ] Started Accounts Service.
    [ TIME ] Time out waiting for device sys-subsytem-net-devices-enp2s0.device
    [ DEPEND ] Dependency failed for dhcpcd on enp2s0.
    [ OK ] Reached target Multi-User System.
    [ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
    I obviously have a networking problem (and probably a "Graphical Interface" or Nvidia related thing problem), so I log in another console, and after doing ip link list, I only have the loopback listed, no enp2s0 or WiFi interface, for some reason they are no longer detected.
    I've run the live version of Arch to mount and arch-chroot my partitions, not to mention my network interfaces are detected and I can upgrade things with pacman, I've tried to disable dhcpcd on enp2s0 to avoid the time out thing, and while I can say it does what it's supposed to do, it doesn't solve anything anyway since I'm still stuck at Reached target Graphical Interface. (and don't have any network access, to state the obvious).
    I've even thought about a Kernel/Driver problem after an update, but I'm not sure, any idea or some log I can have a look at ?
    Thank you for your time.

  • How many Standard Ethernet Network Interface by server ?

    Hi
    Huh... I'd like to install a RAC configuration with 2 server but i've a doubt.
    When i list all network interfaces i've:
    Server1
    en0 Standard Ethernet Network Interface
    et0 IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Network Interface
    lo0 Loopback Network Interface
    Server2
    en0 Standard Ethernet Network Interface
    et0 IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Network Interface
    lo0 Loopback Network Interface
    Is it good or not ? (probably not and documentation says that en0 and en1 must be present in the configuration). OK.
    I'm under AIX 5.3 and by Smit i've an option intituled "Add a Virtual IP Address Interface". Is it possible to create the second Interface as a Virtual IP adress here ?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Den

    Den,
    Basically, you would be needing two separate interface cards for each participating node. The first one to connect to the public network and second for the use an interconnect. Not sure, if et0 is really an network interface, if yes, you should be ok.
    VIP is nothing but an un-assigned IP address (in the same subnet as your public IP address) which is expected to be inactive before you install the CRS. This should be listed in your /etc/hosts file and/or dns server (if used). Not sure if adding VIP through the SMIT makes it active, if yes, then you might not want to use SMIT to set up the VIP.

  • ACS 5.4 multiple network interfaces support

    In ACS 5.4 release note, it says:
    Multiple network interface connector support
    ACS  5.4 supports up to four network interfaces: Ethernet 0, Ethernet 1,  Ethernet 2, and Ethernet 3. ACS management functions use only the  Ethernet 0 interface, but AAA protocols use all configured network  interfaces. You must connect the ACS nodes in the distributed deployment  only to the Ethernet 0 interface. Therefore, the syslog messages are  sent and received at the log collector's Ethernet 0 interface. Data  forwarding from one interface to another interface is prohibited to  prevent potential security issues. The external identity stores are  supported only on the Ethernet 0 interface. In ACS 5.4, multiple network  interface connectors are also supported for proxies.
    But in the CSACS 1121 Series Appliance Rear View section, it still says on Ethernet 0 is usable. All other  interfaces are blocked.
    I am confused. Can anyone clarify for me if we can use multiple network interface in ACS 5.4? What about management interface?
    Thanks!

    We configured 2 interfaces in past within testing enviornment and it worked. ACS 5.4 supports multiple network interfaces on the UCS platform, on a virtual machine and on the legacy ACS 5.x IBM/CAM hardware. The ACS management functions use the interface eth0 only and the AAA protocols use all available network interfaces.

  • Query Network interface with C#

    Hello,
    I'm developing a C# winforms application under Windows server 2008 (64bit)
    Is there a way to query all network interfaces installed in the PC and check their IP address and if there is an ethernet connection (connected \ not connected) ?
    I want to do it with Microsoft C# classes.
    Best regards,
    Z.V

    Hi,
    Solution 1:>
    Step1:>
    UdpClient u = new UdpClient(remoteAddress, 1);
    IPAddress localAddr = ((IPEndPoint)u.Client.LocalEndPoint).Address;
    Step2:>
    foreach (NetworkInterface nic in NetworkInterface.GetAllNetworkInterfaces())
    IPInterfaceProperties ipProps = nic.GetIPProperties();
    // check if localAddr is in ipProps.UnicastAddresses
    Solution 2:>
    foreach(NetworkInterface ni in NetworkInterface.GetAllNetworkInterfaces())
    if(ni.NetworkInterfaceType == NetworkInterfaceType.Wireless80211 || ni.NetworkInterfaceType == NetworkInterfaceType.Ethernet)
    Console.WriteLine(ni.Name);
    foreach (UnicastIPAddressInformation ip in ni.GetIPProperties().UnicastAddresses)
    if (ip.Address.AddressFamily == System.Net.Sockets.AddressFamily.InterNetwork)
    Console.WriteLine(ip.Address.ToString());

  • How to determine network interface that will be used to send a packet

    Hello,
    I'm writing to you because I encountered the following problem. My program displayes all network interfaces that are available in the system, but I would like to add a functionality in which a user can enter a destination address IP (ex. the IP address of the Google search engine) and will get information which network interface will be used to send it. As I know it is associated with reading information from routing table in the system. Maybe you know the API (functions/methods) which I could use to do it in Solaris ? I program in C/C++, but if you know how to do it in other programming languages (Java, Perl, Python) I will be grateful for any information.
    Thank you for any help, tips and suggestions.
    Best regards,
    Foxrafi

    Thank you for your response it was very helpful :).
    I went to the OpenSolaris webpage because I would like to find the code of this command, but unfortunately I don't know where I should start my searches.
    There is a page with source code of basic commands, but there is no "route" command: here .
    Maybe you are better enlightened where I should start.
    Thank you for answer.

  • New server make many broadcast traffic for NetBIOS wpad

    From 1 month ago I finished transferred from old server 2003 to new server 2012 with new machine all role , DHCP and sharing file are transferred successfully and I use netdom computername to keep the name for the new server as a same name for the old server
    and all thing in my network is good  but I feel that there are some slow in the network and some router in my network frozen from time to time a need to restart
    I use Wireshark to monitor my network and I found that my new server make many broadcast traffic for NetBIOS wpad , the server make more than 500 nbns broadcost per second .
    No.

    Where 192.168.15.100 is my server IP.
    all server and workstation have a antivirus and latest update  of windows and the server not connect to internet
    Can anyone help me to solve this problem.

    I found the problem and i would like to share it with other
    the problem from my antivirus Kaspersky Endpoint security 10 when i close the program the broadcast stop and all traffic return to normal
    i open antivirus again and disable the using of proxy from it and now its work good.

  • I am having a data excess usage issue with my Jetpack although I did not use the VZW network at all.

    Background: My home does not have access to landline internet and I am relying on a Verizon Jetpack device rather than satellite cable for internet access.  Within my JetPack wireless network I have several devices connected, iPADs, PC’s, printer, etc. (up to 5 devices can be connected with my system).  Recently, I had one device within my immediate wireless network that I needed to transfer data via FTP to another local device within my immediate network.  The receiving device FTP’d data from device (198.168.1.42) to local IP (address 192.168.1.2).  To understand the data path a Trace rout for this transfer is 198.168.1.42 (source) to 198.168.1.1 (Jetpack) to 192.168.1.2 (receiver).  Note that the VZW network ((cloud)/4G network) was NOT used in this transfer nor was any VZW bandwidth used for this transfer (of course less the typical overhead status/maintenance communications that happen regardless). Use of the VZW bandwidth would be something like downloading a movie from Netflix, (transferring data from a remote site, through the VZW network, into the Jetpack and to the target device).  I also understand if ones devices have auto SW updates that would also go against the usage as well.  I get that.  My understanding of my usage billing is based data transfer across the VZW network.
    Now to the problem: To my surprise I was quite substantially charged for the “internal” direct transfer of this data although I didn’t use the VZW network at all.  This does not seem to be right, and doesn’t make much sense to me.  Usage is should be based on the VZW network not a local Wi-Fi.  In this case, Verizon actually gets free money from me without any use of or impact to the VZW network.  Basically this is a VERY expensive rental for the jetpack device, which I bought anyway.  Considering this, I am also charged each time I print locally.  Dive into this further, I am also interested in knowing what is the overhead (non-data) communications between the jetpack router and devices and how much does that add up to over time?
    Once I realized I was getting socked in bandwidth, as a temp solution I found an old Wi-Fi router, created a separate Wi-Fi network off the Jetpack, but the billing damage was already done.  Switching each device back and forth to FTP and print is a hassle and there should be no reason the existing hardware couldn’t handle this and charges aligned with VSW usage. Is purposely intended by Verizon? Is this charging correct? And can I get some help with this?
    Logically, usage should be based on VZW network usage not internal transfers.  All transfers between IP addresses 192.168 are by default internal.  Any data that needs to leave the internal network are translated in to the dynamic IP addresses established by the VZW network.  That should be very easily detected for usage. In the very least, this fact needs to be clearly identified and clarified to users of the Jetpack.  How would one use a local network and not get socked with usage charges?  Can one set up a Wi-Fi network with another router, hardwire directly from the router to the Jetpack so that only data to and from the VZW network is billed? I might be able to figure out how to have the jetpack powered on but disable the VZW connection, but I don’t want to experiment and find out that the internal transfers are being logged and the log sent after the fact anyway once I connect…. A reasonable solution should be that users be able to use the router functions of the Jetpack (since one has to buy the device anyway) and only be billed for VZW usage.
    Your help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, renamed the user acct, followed all directions I could find and firefox will not open. I've run all kinds of scans on my computer for viruses or malware and found nothing. Everytime I try to open firefox, I get the crash reporter and it will not open at all. I would appreciate some help. I don't know what else to try. I use firefox as my default browser.
