Netbook NB305-N410 Recovery

Just purchased the netbook. While trying to use the Toshiba Recovery Media Center with a new 17GB USB flash drive I get the following error about 75% of the way through: An Unexpected Error Occured: (Error Code: 040EAA-70-000000) Any suggestions appreciated.

Tech support...just told me that the only way to create the recovery media for their...NB305 series is to use an external DVD.
Are you sure there was not a misunderstanding?
The manual clearly states that USB flash drives may be used. See the section Creating recovery DVDs/media starting on p. 58 of the User's Guide.

  • Adding drive to NB305-N410BL

I would like to replace drive on netbook NB305-N410BL with HDDR500102X Part# PA3734U-1BRS 500 gig. Will it work, can the chip set accommodate?

    Hi zathrak,
    Which OS you are using?
If you use Windows 7 you have to install Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both you can download on the Toshiba website.
I had a similar problem and after the installation the FN keys worked again! :)

  • 10.1-Inch Toshiba Netbook NB305-N600

I was thinking of buying a new computer. I really just need it for web browsing. Updating my music and my itunes on it. And occasionally sending emails and doing minor work realted stuff. Not looking for anything too expensive, just something simple and effeceint. Does anyone know anything about this computer, 10.1-Inch Toshiba Netbook NB305-N60. Or any other computer that would be good for these few uses.

If you haven't noticed, netbooks are being phased out with tablets and the upcoming ultrabooks.
the biggest reason is the start up time.  15 minutes when you factor in the virus checkers updating itself.
    tablets offer instant start.
another factor is the small screen... there's a lot of scrolling compared to a larger screen.
I strongly recommend going to the store and asking for a demo on a restart.  Take a stop watch with you.  Add an additional 5 minutes for the virus checker to complete updating itself.
I love my Netbook.... when it's running Ubuntu....  it starts up in 30 seconds!

  • Will the NB305-N410 netbook support a full version of Window 7 (64-bit)?

I bought a Toshiba NB305-N410BL netbook a couple of days ago and I am wanting to upgrade the OS to a full version of Windows 7. I am looking at going to Windows 7 Professional (maybe Windows 7 Home) instead of the Windows 7 Starter that it came with but I am wondering if this netbook will support a 64-bit version of Windows 7. I have searched for the specs of this netbook to see what it would support but have had no luck although I am starting to think that it will only support a 32-bit OS. I am not looking to upgrade from the Starter version but doing a clean install of the full version of Windows 7 Professional. Any help or advice on the subject would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT: I am also having a problem creating a system image. I want to have an image for backup just in case something goes wrong down the line. I first tried to use my external hard drive to create the image but it gave me the error message that "this device cannot be used to store a system image because it is not formatted with NTFS". So I decided that instead of reformatting my whole external hard drive, I would just try a usb flash drive. So I went and bought a 16GB usb drive and spent the last hour reformatting it to NTFS and I am still getting this error message: "The Drive is not a valid backup location." Does anyone know how I can use this usb drive to hold a backup image of my netbook's current state?
ANOTHER EDIT: Nevermind on the question about creating a system image on the usb drive. I just found out that you can't. :/

I successfully installed a 32-bit version of Windows 7 Home on my netbook but now I have a couple more issues that maybe you can help me with.
    - My scroll pad is no longer working. It was working just find right before I installed the full version of windows 7 but now it won't work. I really rely on the scroll pad for fast and efficient scrolling so I would really like to fix the problem.
    - 2nd problem: Is there any way I can change the resolution from 800x600? When I go to the control panel to adjust the resolution it won't give me any other options. Is the 800x600 resolution the only resolution my graphics card will support?
Thanks for any help in advance.

  • NB305-N410 won't execute Factory Restore

My Toshiba NB305 hangs forever on a blue screen while its booting. There is no error message on it. Tried both in "Safe Mode" and "Last Known Good Configuration", but no help. Also I have tried with "Load Optimized Default" in BIOS, but still the same. I was trying to perform a Factory Restore by pressing n hold "0" key then turn it on. But nothing comes when I press "0" key except the above said blue screen. NB305 comes with Windows 7 Starter. But I degraded it to Windows XP and it was working fine for almost 1 year. Is degradation the reason why I don't get the Factory Restore Menu?
What should I do with this? Is my HDD still healthy? I wonder if there is any way to bring up the Factory Restore option in my netbook. Or is there any other option to boot it properly?
    Thanks n Regards

I degraded it to Windows XP ... Is degradation the reason why I don't get the Factory Restore Menu?
Probably, you wiped out the recovery partition when you installed Windows XP.
Order the recovery media from Toshiba. That will put Windows 7 Starter back on it.

  • Not Powering on- Netbook NB305

I cleaned my NB305 Netbook with disinfectant wipe.  It does not power on now.  I have removed the battery and replaced it back.  I removed the cover for power switch and made sure it is dry, waited a day, still does not power on.  Pls help!
    BJ1

Most likely the problem is with your software. Just turn it on and restore it through iTunes if you haven't done so already. If that doesn't work, all I can say is to wait until the next version of 2.x.x comes out and see if problems persist. If they do, then you should probably call Apple and let them know.

  • Netbook NB305 - Are the USB ports fully powered?

I'm wondering if the USB ports on the NB305 supply enough power to power an external 2.5" hard drive.
    Thanks very much!

It can depend on the external drive.  A friend of mine and I bought our WDC Passports at the same time from the same store and mine works just fine on every laptop we have tried it on and his exact same model (the serial numbers are only about 100 apart) has troubles powering up on some of the same laptops mine runs fine on.  If it doesn't you can normally use a dual usb cable like this one to draw power from two ports to get it going.

If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • NB305-N410 - What application/driver allows the usage of F# keys to toggle?

NB305-N410wh - What application or driver allows you to hit the function key with an "F#" key to toggle different functions listed on the F# keys? (For example, enabling/disabling wireless with FN + F8?)
I reinstalled my system from the ground up, created the flash drive that contains all the toshiba drivers and apps, but can't seem to find the one that controls this functionality.

  • Netbook NB305 Wont shut down.

I have had my net book for about 2 weeks and it now will not shut down. I can put it to sleep or hibernation but it wont shut down or restart. Cntl/alt/del wont work either, so I dont seem to be able to shut it down, either with or without the ac cord attached. I have run a virus check and there is nothing wrong.

    Hi
What happens if you go to start -> shutdown? Do you get any error messages?
Maybe there are some different processes running in the OS background which prevents the OS from shutdown.
I would go to msconfig and would check the startup tab.
There you can find some apps which would be loaded while booting up the unit
Maybe its just a OS issue
The other solution proposal; try a system reinstallation. Maybe this is a option for you

  • Mini Notebook NB305-N600 Upgrade to SSD

I have the Toshiba Netbook NB305-N600 and would like to upgrade into SSD.  I have an OCZ Vertex 3 that requires an SATA-3 interface.  Is the N305-N600 SATA3 compatible?

    Hi, RudyA.
Thanks for the information. However, I thought you wanted a SATA III compatible interface for your SSD. Nevertheless, I am glad to know you are satisfied with the situation and that you will download the backup to a CD/DVD. Even so, you can buy a Toshiba recovery flashdrive for Windows 7 for your NB305. I have used it and it works well. I contracted a virus around Christmas time last year that required me to reinstall the system. I experienced all the common symptoms others have  because the netbook did not recognize the flashdrive. I had to change the BIOS bootup setting then use the Toshiba Hardware Assist Manager to add the bootup from a flashdrive feature. It took several times before it recognized it and this puzzled the Toshiba technician too. Anyway, thanks for keeping me in your loop.

    Good luck!

  • NB305, Repeated Warranty Work Required, Toshiba Contact Suggestion

1)Have others needed repeated warranty work on their NB305-N410?
I'm concerned that having two unrelated issues come up in 6 months indicates I'm likely to encounter another problem in 3 mos. or so.
Customer service rep I spoke to today couldn't address my reliability concerns--though he was polite & efficient.  2) Is there someone specific at Toshiba anyone can suggest for me to contact?
I chose this mini-notebook because reviews & user experiences I read convinced me that most owners don't experience the inconvenience & frustration I'm encountering, so I'd like to speak to someone at Toshiba rather than just rant.
Thanks for listening.  Will appreciate any feedback & suggestions.
    Tzimis

    Thanks, Arkadia,
My first problem several mos ago was a non-responsive keyboard.  Toshiba replaced same & that's working.  Problem now was an error message telling me to shut down immediately due to problem with cooling system for netbook.  When I called technician, I was NOT told to try to turn on computer again; only to arrange to send the netbook in to warranty/or repair depot.
    Appreciate your help, Tzimis

  • TOSHIBA NB550D-111 Recovery problem due to swm error

I own a NB550D-111 (preinstalled W7 Starter SP1 32 bit, av Security Essentials), used mainly for browsing, chat and Skype. Following the july updates, the OS began greeting me with blue screen at every start. I choosed "Startup repair", and after some 20 minutes and one restart, the OS was up and running. The next restart, the same scenario. Every time I ran "Startup repair", sometimes 3 or 4 times to get the system working.
I did a System Restore, but no luck. Still the same blue screen at startup. I ran Check Disc at startup from Command Prompt with /F and /R switches, no errors found. After four days, Startup Repair was unable to solve the blue screen even if I spent almost 4 hours restarting and either choosing Startup Repair or do System Restore.
I went to Restore Factory Settings OS from the recovery partition. I wanted to keep My Documents folder, I changed the location to the second partition). Imagex gave an error at 70% applying the image (a .ttc file that cannot be copied), and after reboot BOOTMGR was missing. I used the usb recovery stick made shortly after I bought the netbook using Toshiba Recovery media creator, wich wiped clean the HDD (eventually lost my files, that's it), re-partitioned and copied the .swm files in the HDDRecovery folder. When applying the image to C: partition, Imagex also gave an error at 70%, the same ttc file.
I installed a clean copy of Starter, installed SP1 and updates and activated online using the serial number from the COA sticker. At first the newly installed OS was incredibly fast (I have only the drivers and Flash Cards installed, no other application from Toshiba), but after the SP1 update the boot time trippled. From my previous experiences with Windows XP, a slipstreamed SP installation of Windows behaves better than one updated with windows update. I'm thinking of a way to reinstall the Toshiba Windows, even full of bloatware as it is, then stop the programs I don't use trough msconfig and services.msc (just as I did in when I bought the netbook).

    Update:
I installed WAIK and the supplement for SP1 of Windows 7.
I got errors when saving the modified wim. I needed to change permissions and owner (Trusted Installer) in the Windows folder, and after copying the files restore old permissions. The modified wim was saved but at unmount left behind in exactly the folders I tangled with in Windows folder. The other modified folders were saved with no problems.
    So, I tried a modified metod 1:
Downloaded 7-zip portable, expanded and ran once in a folder on the second partition (D:) of the HDD.
Created an USB bootable stick with WinRE image found in the HDDRecovery tools.
Booted from USB, started 7-Zip from command prompt. Opened the SWM file and copied all the files in the second folder to the C: partition. Using 7-Zip as a file manager, I replaced the corrupted files with their good variants stored also on the second partition. This time no problems, all files copied ok, no need to change permissions.
Rebooted from HDD, BOOTMGR missing. Booted from USB, the instalation was found and repaired (in two stages). After another reboot from HDD, I was greeted with the "Preparing your computer for the first use". The factory installation took more than 2.5 hours (installation of drivers in the sysprep phase was very slow), instead of a half hour for a clean installation. At the end of sysprep (just before OOBE phase), after reboot BOOTMGR missing, resolved again as indicated earlier.
It took another 3 hours to uninstall bundled Nero, McAfee and Windows Live +applying updates and installing usual programs.
Hope this will help someone in the same situation.
    Regards,
    Bogdan

  • Can't system restore from recovery partition, please help!

To start my info is:<br><br>HP MINI 210-1003sa<br><br>I have tried accessing recovery manager from the start menu, also tried accessing it by pressing f8, repair computer and f11 system restore isn't lit up as an option to click.<br><br>It says my netbook has no recovery partition yet when I go to my computer drive D is the recovery partition.<br><br>I have also downloaded the hp program that creates a bootable system restore USB stick but when I boot from it it just loads up windows.<br><br>I really need to reset to factory settings ASAP, please help.

    Hi Mike:
The second chapter of this saga.
I did order the recovery USB.
I did what it was asking and wiped out the HDD clean.
But the system is still unstable.
It took a very long time to configure itself. Several times I had to run the process again because it would either not boot or it would be just sitting there at the attached screen.
Sometimes it would go to Win8 boot window, but then suddenly come back to the same screen.
It seems that HDD is completly out. What is the warranty on the HDD? This laptop is just two years old.
And a side note: we had to send it for repairs twice already for monitor issues; the keyboard is not flat; there are some loose parts inside. I really expected better quality from such a reputable brand as TOSHIBA.
    -Ilya.

  • How get pure windows 7 disc

I have Toshiba netbook NB305 and I don't want to install a Toshiba software on it. Where I can get pure Windows 7 installation disk? Can I recovery my Operating System without Toshiba Applications?

not if you want your laptop to run smooth. most of those programs that seem like a waste dont take up much space and make the laptop run the way it is supposed to. removing anything that has toshiba in the name is not recommended. if you still want to do this you would need to buy a retail copy like lilmaqi stated.

  • Uk Release Dates / Distrobution / Etc? (& WTF!)

I've just started university and I'm looking for a netbook to take notes with during lectures, to read study material and online research. (I started looking into this a few months ago!)
I thought the NB305-N410 looked like it would be suitable and the blue model looks sweet!
However I live in the UK, and for some reason I can buy the Brown or White versions, just not the blue version. Why? How does that make sense!
There is now a NB305-N440 version that has come out but is not at all available in the UK. (also available in red)
Should I wait for it to come out in the UK? Maybe it will never arrive in the UK, or only in ugly brown!
Can someone explain how toshiba decides what to release where, when and why?
And if I should just buy the brown N410 or wait for the N440?
(I would just order it from america, however then I pay large shipping, handling, and taxation costs. (I'm so going to move to a tax haven after uni!))

So...if my Note 3 was bought sim free and unlocked would I expect to get Lollipop sooner?
(I really am unsure of how this works)
It's likely that would be correct - typically speaking, open market handsets can get updates sooner than network supplied ones, though there are occasions where our network update can be out before the open market ones. As you can see sometimes the 'logistics' of software updates can be a little topsy-turvy.
Just to clarify though, it doesn't look like Samsung have started pushing any updates out for the Note 3 in the UK yet - a Google search seems to suggest it may be pushing out in Russia (we have no official details on any rollouts outside UK) which is good news but it can take vendors weeks and into the month(s) before their rollouts spread across all markets. It's not unusual for vendors to launch updates into a small number of markets to test the waters several days/weeks before they consider a full rollout - this gives them an opportunity for real-world customer usage to see if there's any major issues with it.
Another thing to consider are bugs - while an extreme example, take the Note II for instance - the open market update had a rather large Bluetooth bug that caused many issues for people who used Bluetooth devices. The update that we got Samsung to push out for us included a fix for this bug.
Long story short: While I understand the need/desire for many to get the update ASAP/immediately, it doesn't always pay off. Bugs do happen and sometimes they're found soon enough in open market updates that we can get them patched for our own update. So there are of course merits to both :-)
