Netboot - AAMEE

From https://discussions.apple.com/message/12564961 , still having problems creating a image with adobe products installed in it, in that last post Kostas B told me about Adobe's deployment solution (AAMEE), that does create a pkg from the installer, but, every test i've ran so far. Using system image utility to create the image and when i add the created PKG to the Packages and Post-Install Scripts the the Customize Package Selection part does list Adobe Setup, but it's grayed out and Size is 0 bytes, after deploying from it, there isn't any adobe software installed.
The closest i gotten with this is creating another package with Package Maker and add the AAMEE package to Package Maker, SIU does report a size and it's not grayed out with that one, the software is installed, but, when i try to run them i just get a error telling me to re-install.
Has anyone been able to do this? Any other things i should look at, maybe with Composer? Dont have composer and dont really want to pay for it to find out that i'll end up with the same result -.-

Kudos once again to Mr. Zalenka, his knowledge and helpfulness.
You've not stated why you need the image volume to be RO. However, I've never seen a promise nor hint - let alone guarantee - that one can use a RO volume for this purpose.
Does it function correctly from start to finish using your workaround ?
Some NetBoot settings are indeed stored in NetInfo, for example the "DHCP" NetBoot mac-address filtering settings are stored in NetInfo, if you have a look I'd imagine you'll find the rest you're looking for there.

  • NetBoot across subnets with a bootpd relay

    Hello Apple Community!
I've got 4 subnets at my school, each with various Macs around campus.  I have a Mavericks server on each subnet currently, each with their own NetBoot images.  It's a pain to keep everything updated.  I can get a single client Mac (pre-2011) to boot across subnets using the bless command, but that's not really a viable solution for us to run a bless command on each client every single time we want to netboot.  So far, the solution has been just to have dedicated netboot servers on each subnet, but I know there has to be a better way.
This article (OS X Server: How to use NetBoot across subnets - Apple Support) describes three different methods for netbooting across subnets, but two of them are not really viable for us.  Those involve reconfiguring the network to allow BootP data to pass across subnets or configuring one server with multiple network connections, one for each subnet.  However, option #2 describes configuring a bootpd relay.  Based on my reading, this sounds like exactly what I need.  However, I can't find any good documentation to walk me through setting it up.
I've thoroughly read the bootpd man page, which has had me editing the /etc/bootpd.plist on multiple servers.  This hasn't gotten me very far.  My clients still don't see the remote NetBoot server.  It seems like the relay is supposed to redirect broadcasts from the remote Netboot server, through a local NetBoot server to the client.  But I have no idea how to make this work.
Could someone please give me more guidance on what I'm supposed to be doing here?  I'd like to host a single NetBoot server and have any client on any subnet be able to option-boot to see the NetBoot startup options (I have multiple NetBoot images, from Apple Service Toolkit to DeployStudio and Mavericks/Yosemite installers in between).  Even if I could get it to just netboot to one default source (AST), I could deal with that.  I'm also happy to host multiple NetBoot servers, but with all my NetBoot images in one location.  I'm stumped in this multiple subnet environment and I need help.  Please help.

Thanks again for your feedback.  I had forgotten I left the "tftp://" on the IP address.  Though, I've tried that multiple ways, starting with IP only.  Also, per the bootpd man page (https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man8/bootpd.8.html), <allow/> and <deny/> are lists for MAC address allowances and when nothing is defined everything goes through.  These are there by default, though I will remove them and see what happens.  Also, according to the man page, bootp_enabled enables on all connections when a boolean is set rather than an array.  Though I will still change this also and see what happens.  The array that comes after the netboot_disabled key is auto-generated by NetInstall when you turn the service on in Server.app.
Essentially, that plist comes from a fresh activation of NetInstall.  I deleted the previous .plist, rebooted the server and when I turned on NetInstall, that's what was created, plus my bootp modifications.
All that said, you said that you assumed I started the relay with the 'debug & logging' options enabled.  I haven't started the relay in any active sense.  So far, I've just been modifying this .plist, and rebooting a bunch of times, but that's where I seem to get lost.  Is there a way to actively "start" the relay?  I'd love to look at these 'debug & logging' options.  As for the 'Startup Disk' prefs on the client Mac, they do not show any significant change.  Basically, they just don't see the remote server as a startup option.  I have not gleaned any pertinent info from console, though I'm not sure I know what I'm looking for.
On a side note, I had a wild hair to try something different.  I set my local subnet's server to look at a NetBootSP0 folder that was actually a symlink to a NetBootSP0 folder that was mounted as a file share from the remote NetBoot server.  This really looked like it might work.  When you boot the client, it saw the startup volumes from the remote server.  However, upon boot, it doesn't seem to make the connection and winds up booting back to the internal hard drive.  It was worth a try...

  • AAMEE not working when trying to sign in.

So I downloaded the newest version of AAMEE, because I wanted to test the new function to install CS6 products serialized on my master image, but now I get a error each time I try to login with the Adobe-ID I have. This problem has been going on for 2 days now, even though it just tells me to try later. I want to test the new feature, because I got some troubles with activating two CS6 products on one image and the people that use this software is getting kind of impatient.

  • Using AAMEE to Package CS6 for Enterprise Deployment | Creative Suite In The Enterprise | Adobe TV

CS6 software requires activation and Adobe ID login. By packaging CS6 with AAMEE 3.0 before deployment, only the IT Admins needs to complete a one-time package activation and Adobe ID login, individual users of thesoftware do not. Learn about these new requirements and how to help yourenterprise customers through this new process by using the free AAMEEtool. AAMEE also gives you advanced package configuration and updat options.

We have a major issue with the way this works... we have no internet on our workstations, and want to deploy... it appears there is NO WAY to do an offline activation using the AAMEE program!!! This is a major oversight for people who work on contained networks, with zero internet on any workstations where the deployment can be made.
Please let me know of a way round this, it is quite urgent!

  • CS6 and AAMEE 3.1: Install Problems

    Hello,
I have been trying to install some components of the CS6 Education Edition by packaging them using AAMEE 3.1 (I am packaging each product individually rather than having all of them in a single package), but I have hit some problems.
The packaging process appears to work. However, following the completion of the installation process (when msiexec no longer appears in Powershell's 'Get-Process' list), the product - which was supposed to be installed to a location which was specified during packaging - does not appear anywhere on the hard disk, and nothing is added to the Start Menu. I have tried with two seperate packages. One contains Acrobat X Pro and the other contains Photoshop CS6.
I have skimmed over the logfiles VERY briefly for both packages (those things are huge!) and at the bottom of the logfiles which were created on the first install attempt of the packages, the line...
"MSI (c) (80:78) [11:42:44:282]: Windows Installer installed the product..."
...can be seen. On a second install attempt however, the newly-created logfiles have the line...
"MSI (c) (58:94) [11:46:05:268]: Windows Installer reconfigured the product...."
...at the bottom, suggesting that something somewhere has been reconfigured.
The .msi files were executed using Command Prompt which had been launched via 'Run as Administrator' and they were executed with "msiexec /i <path> /qn".
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Uninstalling AAM
I have tried using the default settings for creating a new package. I've also tried making various changes from the defaults, such as disabling checking for conflicting applications, enabling AIR, and changing what updates are applied. The result is always the same error when I try to install the package.
There's no possibility of a conflict with a previous version of CS or something like that. I am literally doing this process on brand new Macs right out of the box, with a freshly downloaded copy of AAMEE, and a freshly downloaded DMG for CS6.
The log refers to "assuming uninstall mode" and "Cannot proceed with the uninstall" but since this is a completely new fresh install on a clean fresh OS I can't even  begin to imagine what that could possibly mean.
I've tried contacting Adobe support, but so far have only had generic tier one responses. Will be trying again tomorrow.
I have searched this forum and the web in general, and I've found a similar reports with proposed solutions, such as disabling the check for conflicting applications, but none of them have helped.

You don't have to look at Adobe's log, it's an objective C programming issue.
    Adobe didn't update their code.
Open Mac OS console application and look for installation error, you will find something similar meaning the code is deprecated for Mac OS 10.8:

  • CS6, AAMEE 3.1 - serialization file still prompts to sign in

So I've had the same issue I've seen other's dealing with - pretty much exactly the same as http://forums.adobe.com/message/4467285.  I've placed AAMEE 3.1 trial packages of my volume-licensed suite into a master image and deployed it to other computers (using WDS).  I created the serialization file with AAMEE 3.1 and have tried to run those on the computers with the trial packages.  I am running:
    AdobeSerialization.exe --tool=VolumeSerialize
The prov.xml file is in the same folder, but just for the sake of being thorough I added the --provfilie=[path] bit.  I also saw a reference to a "--stream" parameter.  I have no idea what it does but I tried it to.  All of these attempts result in a result code of 0 and the programs in the suite open.  However, the program immediately requests that the user signs in with an Adobe ID.  It's ridiculous because it reports that I now have approximately 90 years until the software stops working.  This is super obnoxious that my users have to dismiss this message each time they wish to load an Adobe product.  What am I missing here?  How can I just make my programs run with no pop-ups like they always used to?  Thanks.

Hi I have the same problem in that after using the previously created prov file, the software insists that I sign in with an Adobe ID, and like tomferratt, I do not intend to ask my uses to dismiss this message everytime they wish to use your products, I have tried this so called fix you have mentioned above but to no avail, surely there must be an easier way to license your products for users who do not, nor ever will be able to connect to the internet. It seems that Adobe are trying to dictate that all users who have the misfortune to require their products to do a job need to be internet connected, well in the real world this is not an option for everyone, so please please please come up with a solution that is easy and stress free for us poor users who cannot connect to the intenet from our office enviroment.

  • Deploying AAMEE 3.1 created MSI by double clicking it in UI mode

With the release of AAMEE 3.1, AAMEE created MSI supports both silent and UI based installation.
For UI based install of AAMEE 3.1 created packages, run the MSI as an administrator. If you are logged in as Admin user, you can double click it, otherwise right click the MSI and run as administrator. A minimalistic UI will be shown with just a progress bar. Any error during MSI install will cause a roll back and the user should check the logs to see what went wrong. You can also run the MSI in UI mode through this command line –
    msiexec.exe /i <path of msi>
AAMEE still supports silent installation as the standard way of deploying the packages. Silent installation can be done only through the command line option –
    msiexec.exe /i  <path of msi> /qn.
Make sure that the command line is invoked with admin privileges. For users using SCCM 2007 for deploying AAMEE created packages, make sure to check “Allow users to interact with this program” checkbox in Environment tab of the SCCM Program for UI based installation. The corresponding checkbox for SCCM 2012 is “Allow users to view and interact with the program installation”.
For uninstallation of MSI in UI mode, there is only a command line option –
    msiexec.exe /x <path of msi>
For silent uninstallation, add the /qn switch with the above command line –
    msiexec.exe /x <path of msi> /qn
This UI based installation is only supported by the packages created using AAMEE 3.1. If you are using AAMEE 3.1 beta or AAMEE 3.0 for CS6 packaging, please download AAMEE 3.1 from http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html.

I want to revisit this. You can also see my related posts here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5073735
I had contented myself that I would use a batch file and require users to right-click and run as admin on the batch file. This was so that I could get Acrobat 10 installed at the same time. However, now that I have Acrobat 11, and I can separate out the installers, I would like to get back to this "double-click" method. I've verified that my new package (without Acrobat) works using the msiexec command. However, it still doesn't work as a double-click.
Here are the key lines from PDApp.log:
3/8/2013 07:54:21 [ERROR] Setup - Error parsing command line arguments at - "DISABLE_CCM_DESKTOPSHORTCUT".
    Expected arguments are -
              --mode=silent
              --overrideFile="<FilePath>"
3/8/2013 07:54:21 [FATAL] Setup - Administrative Privileges required to continue
3/8/2013 07:54:21 [FATAL] Setup - End Adobe Setup. Exit code: -10
However, I am an admin on the machine, just as I am on all the machines that I've tested this on. And when I use a batch file with the msiexec and right-click and run as admin, I don't have to put other credentials in, verifying that I am, in fact, an admin on the machine.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • Adobe CS6 randomly asks for reactivation (Deployed using AAMEE 3.1)

    Hi All
We've deployed Adobe CS6 Design and Web Premium using AAMEE 3.1 to about 500 workstation across our school campus.  However, we're having a really weird issue where either the licensing screen will randomly pop up asking for reactivation (7 days) or the program requested will just fail to run.  If I try to reactivate using the wizard onscreen it says I don't have a valid internet connection.  This causes a lot of frustration for our users (and me!!)
The only work around I found to it is to re-serialize using a serialization package made with AAMEE.  I'm considering adding it to a start-up script to re-serialize every PC when they are booted up each day but it it seems ridiculous to need to do this.  I thought AAMEE removed all activation checks and prompts, this doesn't seem to be the case here??
I've had a look around the forums and while there are similar issues I haven't found a resolution to this, any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

  • AAMEE 3.1 CS6 silent install fail

Hello, I've been having trouble with updates failing to install on existing installs of CS6 in my environment. The company I work for has an enterprise support agreement in place with Abode so I called up Adobe tech support for some help. Adobe tech support recommended I re-package CS6 with all available updates using AAMEE 3.1 which I did. However, now the Adobe extension manager EULA is not suppressed and I am either promoted for credentials when I attempt to update CS6 via AAM or the updates fail to apply just as they did before. I'm confused how there can be any updates since I created a Installation Package (Application + Updated) via AAMEE. Adobe tech support closed my support ticket because the solution was to manually manage updates or give out the corporate login info to the user base. I'm not happy with either solution. This seems like a step backwards from AAMEE 3.0.
    Any help would be appreciated.
