NetBoot Images Not Recognized by Server

I can use SIU to create NetBoot images from my install package just fine.   They end up in the Library/NetBoot/NetbootSP0 directory.   But the Server NetInstall images pane tells me that "No images available" regardless of where I place them.  The client sharepoints are available in the File Share service. I've followed the instructions from multiple sources (the all say essentially the same thing) to no avail.
Now I'm just stuck.  This should be working, but I can't figure out what I'm missing.

I'm not sure if I am answering the correct question or not...
And my experience was on 10.6.8 server, with NetRestore rather than NetBoot.  Nevertheless I'll mention what I found in case it is helpful as they are very nearly the same process.
I had awful problems in the past getting the whole process to work, it seems that it matters which machine you use to do the imaging.  What I found worked was to:
- clone the disc you want to image onto a USB disc.  I can't remember what I used to do this, would have been either ditto or SuperDuper!  (I found in the past that CarbonCopy Cloner worked less well)
- plug the USB disc into the server and run Disk Image Utility on the server
For me this was the "Eureka" moment that made the whole thing suddenly work.
Also I should mention that I found that it matters which network switch you use.  A TPLink switch didn't pass something that was needed for the NetRestore process to work, whereas an HP Procurve switch worked fine.

  • Error Creating NetBoot Image in OS X Server 10.4.9 (PPC)

I am new the the world of servers and OS X Server so forgive my ignorance. I have been trying to create a NetBoot image in OS X Server 10.4.9 (from a disk image of Mac OS X 10.4.6 for Power PC) and it has failed every single time, with varying amounts of a NetBoot image--none bootable--appearing in the share point. I have tried installing on the server and remotely from an administrator computer and it has never worked. I have followed the directions to the letter in the documentation and I still have two servers that have yet to serve anything. Is there some basic concept or tenet concerning making network boot images from OS X disk images that eludes me? Is it simply a hardware issue (the servers are G3s but supposedly Server 10.4 can be installed on a PowerMac G3 (they're decently equipped with RAM and SCSI drives).
Sidebar: if I have a server running OS X Server 10.2, do all the client computers have to run Jaguar as well? Told you I was new to this.
    MacBook Pro 2.33/3GB/120GB   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   PowerMac G4 FW800, 16 b&w PowerMacs G3; TiBook G4

Well it looks like that question was deemed to lowly to answer. Luckily I found out for myself that SCSI and certain video cards can impede the smooth installation of OS X Server 10.4 and that one should use the installed in the Other Installs folder and not set the CD as the startup disk to avoid these incompatibilities.

  • Disk Image could not be opened: image not recognized

So I downloaded the free student versions of both Maya and Maya LT from the autodesk website. It took a little while to download the .dmgs, but once I got them, I couldn't run them. Every time I double click them the disk image mounter tells me "Disk Image could not be opened: Image not recognized." Why? What am I doing wrong? I could have sworn I downloaded the mac version of each program, could that have something to do with it?

    benchristianson,
perhaps both of your downloaded disk images were only partially downloaded?

  • "Image not recognized" on img or dmg files...

    Hello all...
Anyone had the same problem? I have just updated to OS Maverick and I tried to install a firmware for my external RAID. Downloaded from the official website but no luck. I get an error message "Image not recognized". Tried to open it with stuffit or RAR expander but same problem...
    Any advice?
    Thanks s lot...

    Possible solutions:
    Download the file again.
Check if the file size matches what it says on the website. If the size is way off, then don't try to install it.
If the source website provides it, verify the checksum of the file. Google "mac verify checksum of a file".

  • Error downloading Master Collection "image not recognized".

I'm trying to upgrade to the Adobe CS6 Master Collection for my Macbook Pro, but when I download the file from here: Download CS6 products (in English), I get an error that says, "image not recognized", once downloaded and I try to open it.
So, how do I fix that or where can I download the CS6 Master Collection?
    Thanks!

An alternate resource for downloading CS6 is thru the following site (they still download the files from the Adobe servers).  You can download the trial version and use your serial number to activate to full use.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

    What should I do?

    Hi,
Can you just try to re-install pse. If you have downloaded it from any source, try to download it again and then re-install it.
    Thanks,

  • I keep getting a error message "address is not recognized be server"?

I keep getting a error message "address is not recognized be server"?

To download/install an app directly to the iPod you need available storage equal to about three times the file download size. Syncing the app to the iPod requires a lot less. Thus you either have to free up more storage or sync the app from your computer.

  • I need to install a program and a message that says "image not recognized" appears

I am working in the asctimetables software and I need the new version but when installing it a message that says "image not recognized" appears. What can I do?

I found this on the asctimetables download page:
The problem is that although the Apple icon is shown (red oval in lower right), the system requirements shown (red rectangle in lower left) show Windows machines only.  Further, the download is a .exe file that only runs on Windows.  So I suggest you contact asctables' help folks to see whether they really do have an OS X version available.

  • NetBoot Images not "seen" by MM / MBA when booting with ALT without any local bootable Volumes

    Hello Community!
I ran into a very odd Problem trying to start Production and Service Mac Minis or Mac Book Airs from our NetBoot Server holding the ALT Key while the Startup Chime sounds. Image selection is working fine if a local Volume is present. When no local bootable Volume is available the Macs will (in 90% of the Cases) stop responding at the point where the Bootpicker should show all available NetBoot Volumes. The dropdown menu for choosing a Wireless Network is popping up but after that the spinning wheel next to it stops and the Mac wont recognize any input from mouse or keyboard.
The EFI Startup environment is not totally stuck in these cases though, cause sometimes when you restart the NetBoot Service on the Server the NetBoot Volumes will popup on the clients screen.
If you hold the clients "N" key instead to Start Up from the Servers Default NB Image it works like a charm. Also all the other Mac Models have no problem at all Netbooting using the Bootpicker.
Among other things I already tried the following:
    - changing NBI index numbers
    - shortening Image names that are sent out by the Server at the BSDP ACK[LIST] step to reduce the packet size
    - deactivating all Netboot Images but one
    - setting up a second netboot Server and transferring half of the Images to it
the Netboot Log shows that the following client - server communication is repeated over an over:

  • NetBoot images not showing on clients

I have two Mavericks (10.9.4) servers from which I am trying to netboot to use DeployStudio to deploy Fall semester images. None of the clients see the images offered by either server either from the Startup Disk pref pane or by holding option or N at startup.
I have been creating netboot images in different ways and with different tools for the past few days and the clients can't see any of them. This morning I configured the second server from scratch, thinking it might be corruption in the first server. No joy. Example lines from the server logs are below. As long as the pref pane is running on the client or once the client tries to neboot the following two lines replicate every three or four seconds in the server log:
    Aug 13 09:43:32 SOA-Deployer.local bootpd[8633]: BSDP INFORM [en0] 1,68:5b:35:d5:61:d7 arch=i386 sysid=iMac14,3 Aug 13 09:43:32 SOA-Deployer.local bootpd[8633]: NetBoot: [1,68:5b:35:d5:61:d7] BSDP ACK[LIST] sent 134.139.109.248 pktsize 329
It never gets to the BSDP SELECT step. I've tried different clients, models, and locations of servers and clients (all on the same VLAN). I have tried building the .nbi with Deploystudio (v 1.6.11) on a new iMac running Mavericks 10.9.4, and on one of the servers using System Image Utility. I have also tried creating and serving them using both HTTP and NFS. I've talked to the network guys and they confirm that I should be able to do this. In addition, a deployment server from three years ago and some of its clients the same age CAN netboot.
Here is the result of running sudo serveradmin fullstatus netboot on one of the servers:

I have seen many solutions on the web. One suggested a problem with a kernelcache file larger than 32MB. That isn't the problem here, since none of mine are larger than 16MB.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm just about out...

Thanks for the reply, Strontium90. I am indeed inside a university network as described, but I don't see how I can use a LAN vs VLAN. In order to manage my department's devices the ports in our buildings are assigned an ip address range within two subnets, one of which I am working with both clients and servers at the moment. Not being a network geek I can't see how I can change that. Where can I learn more about coping with Mavericks' standards in this regard? Is there a way around it?
The running DHCP shouldn't have been. In the older Mac OS Server versions we had to turn DHCP on but leave it inert when using netboot. I was grasping at straws and turned on the service then forgot to turn it back off before running that report.
I did not truncate the output. There have been no clients. They can't even see the netboot images thus none have booted.
In case it helps here is the report from sudo serveradmin settings netboot, minus most of the supported models (my Macs are all in the list). :

  • Some Images Not Showing on Server

Five of my images aren't showing up online. They appear fine when previewed on my computer and even appear in Adobe Browser Lab.
    I've re-uploaded them several times.
I've deleted them from the server before re-uploading them.
I've created new ones and replaced them.
    I've emptied the cache.
    I've reset the browser.
    I've clicked reload.
I've re-uploaded the CSS file and HTML page.
    The page has passed validation.
The  top and bottom round-cornered navigation rollovers are missing, and the "Concessions" photo link (lower right corner) isn't showing its rollover image.
    http://home.comcast.net/~steven.kay/sea/
    I'm stumped.
    Steve

As an aside note, whilst your roller image is present an correctly uploaded to the server if you use a lowercase 'i' for the word 'images' in the url link your top and bottom navigation images are not on the server at all, either with the upper case 'I' present:
    http://home.comcast.net/~steven.kay/sea/Images/site-wide/nav_off_top.png
or amended to lower case 'i':
    http://home.comcast.net/~steven.kay/sea/images/site-wide/nav_off_top.png
I'd check and make sure those images are in the correct folder and have been uploded to the server.

  • Why is the itunes 11.1 disk image not recognized after download?

I downloaded the new iTunes and am getting an error message that the disk image is not recognized and cannot be opened.  Any others having this issue?

  • Can't download flash player - 'Disk image not recognized'

    MAC OS X
    10.6.8
2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I'm trying to download and install the lastest adobe flash player but having a little problem. It downloads without any problem but when I come to double click it it comes up with the following warning/error message.
The following disk images couldn't be opened. Reason - Not Recognized
I have no idea why this has suddenly come up.
I've complete uninstalled Adobe flash player and tried to reinstall it but it still hasn't worked.
I've also tried to open the 'install_flash_player_osx.dmg' file in Disk Utility but it says its 'Unable to attach'. One thing I have noticed is that the Disk write status is - Not mounted, read only
I'm not sure what this means. If someone could help me out I would appricate it very much.

Not certain what other issue may be the cause of the symptom(s) you've stated above, but there is a link to try & get an Adobe flash player plugin for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 through this page. Also note the comments by users there who relate experience, and an apparent link to a recent beta version(?)
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/4783/adobe-flash-player
While other system maintenance may need to be done for the computer to see any update correctly, there also is a chance the file may not be the proper one. Several exist at the Adobe site, some are not compatible.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Sprint Palm 755p IMAP Folders not recognized on server

My phone will check for email and then give me an error that the folders are not recognized on the server.  I host my own email through Register.com and my own domain.  The settings should be correct b/c when I am in the email program of my phone--drop down menu--snych server folders--the phone tells me that Folders-Draft, Trash, sent are not recognized.  I press "ok" and another pop up screen asks me to check the folders to sych.  My only choice is "Inbox" which is already checked.  I press OK and my phone gets my emails.  I cannot simply press "get" from my email program to have the phone get my email.
How do I set up my phone so that it recognizes what folders are needed to access email?  Also, from my email program, I have teh choice to look in the Inbox, outbox, drafts, sent, junk email folders, but I can also edit these folders.  Should they have to be edited so that they match teh folders from my email account?
I used to use pop settings with no problems at all.  Since I changed email hosts adn switched to IMAP, email does not work at all from phone.  Any help is appreciated.  I have been on the phone for about 5 hours between Register.com, Sprint and Palm...to no avail...
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

I think IMAP settings should be the same between VersaMail and your desktop mail client for the same account (e.g., Outlook Express, Thunderbird). If the desktop mail client works and the device does not, I wonder whether Sprint has some special requirements for access through its network?

  • DW 8 not recognizing test server

I'm trying to set up a test server in Dreamweaver 8 on XP.
The web server is IIS running on a Windows server. I am mapped to
the drive share where the wwwroot is located.
In the "Site Definition" dialog, under testing server, I
picked "asp vpscript" as the server model, "Local/Network" for
Access, and pointed to the network share for the "Testing server
    folder".
After clicking ok and opening a new asp document, all of the
tabs under "Application" all say "To use dynamic data on this
page:..." Every thing is checked off except "Set up the site's
    testing server".
No matter what I do I can not get DW to recognized that the
    Testing Server has been set-up.
Does anybody know what to do at this point?
    Thanks

You missed one crucial point here, the URL Prefix.
In the testing server dialog you specify which folder
    corresponds to which
    url,
you have to configure your IIS to use that folder as a
    virtual directory and
    enter the corresponding url.
