NetBoot not working since 10.6 upgrade

Hi all. I recently upgraded from Server 10.5.8 to 10.6.3 (DVD) with software update to 10.6.4. Everything with the migration went without incident. DNS, DHCP, Open Directory, NFS and AFP are all working perfectly (including network accounts, etc.). I just got around to testing NetBoot yesterday and it is no longer working (client never loads booter - just flashes the world symbol for a few minutes before reverting back to internal hard drive). It was fully operational in 10.5.8. I have one NetBoot set I carried over from 10.5.8 and one new Snow Leopard set I created twice while I've been troubleshooting. Tested them both extensively. I referred to Bombich's troubleshooting guide and here's what I've tried with the results, so far...
1.) The initial client BSDP and DHCP requests seem to be working properly, the client just never proceeds with the loading of the booter/kernel :

2.) The TFTP service, with access to the booter file, has also been confirmed as functioning properly (as tested from my laptop to the server as shown here):
$ tftp 192.168.5.10
tftp> get /private/tftpboot/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/SnowUtility.nbi/i386/booter
Received 322301 bytes in 0.2 seconds
tftp>
3.) I've tested both my original NetBoot set (that always worked fine in 10.5.8) in addition to the new Snow Leopard set created in System Image Utility v10.6.4 (the set referenced in #2) and the result is the same; the client sits on the flashing globe and never tries to load the kernel, etc.
4.) I've connected the Xserve to a dumb switch along with a few different test clients, and the result is the same. As a precaution, I also made sure that spanning tree is still disabled on the primary switch.
5.) The client shadow file is being created properly and I checked the privileges on the NetBootClients0 and NetBootSP0 directories and even attempted setting SP0 to Read/Write for "Everyone" (applying to all enclosing items). No help.
6.) I tried setting AFP Guest Access to "Enabled" (though it shouldn't matter).
I'm at a loss. Is there anything else that I might try (short of a reinstall - yikes) on an otherwise perfect 10.6.4 setup? Anyone know it there's a way to completely wipe NetBoot's configuration to force a reset?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Warmest regards,
Ryan

Turns out Snow Leopard Server (10.6.4) doesn't appear to like my custom MTU setting for jumbo frames that was set for my aggregate (Bond0) of Ethernet 1 and Ethernet 2. This worked fine under 10.5.8 previously. Once I set it back to "Automatic", then NetBoot was able to handle the handshake properly and all is well again. I'm going to experiment with custom MTU settings again when I get a moment to see if I can get jumbo frames operational again. Hope this helps someone else down the line...
Regards,
Ryan

  • TS4079 Siri is not working since 7.0 upgrade - if I turn Siri off it works with voice command. Microphone functions with other apps just fine. I have gone through the trouble shooting page and still nothing. I read others are having the same issue.

I have restarted the phone and reset it - Siri still not working. It does not pick up any voice - just lists some options.

I have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue.

  • IMessage Not Working Since Mountain Lion Upgrade

Since I "upgraded" my iMac and MacBook Air to Mountain Lion, iMessage delivery is hit and miss to the say the least from my iPhone 4S.  I first realised there was an issue receiving text messages whilst in the States and not connected to WiFi. Messages weren't even being received as text messages, even but would all come through as a flood from my girlfriend when I connected to WiFi.
At the weekend she dropped her iPhone 4 and the screen is duff so she's swapped her SIM into a spare BlackBerry until it's repaired.  Gues what? She can text me but my 4S is still trying to reply by iMessage and none of them are being resent/sent as text messages.
It's useless having a mobile phone that will effectively only communicate by voice and e-mail and no basic texting. It wouldn't be so bad if it actualy said the messages were failing.

Were you running os x 10.6 before the upgrade?
Anyway photoshop cs2 won't work on mountain lion because cs2 is a PowerPC application
and mountain lion can only run intel applications natively like photoshop cs3-cc.
If you were using 10.6, then you were using rossetta, an application that allowed some powerpc programs to run on an intel mac and mountain lion doesn't have rossetta.
The current versions of photoshop available from adobe are photoshop cs6 and photoshop cc, but since cs2 is out
of the upgrade loop now, so you need to either buy the full version of photoshop cs6 or subscribe to photoshop cc.

So, I'm assuming that one of the Safari files is corrupted since the upgrade, and that's causing the problem. But how do I fix it?

Hi - I'm the original poster, but I seem to have two IDs on here. Duh!
I'm still having this problem. To be honest, I'm feeling rather anxious about messing with my TC, so today I tried running a fresh TM backup to a USB drive, thinking I would then have everything safe while I tried to resolve the problem. I was pretty surprised to get a very similar error again:

Clearly, this all stems back to the dodgy Safari installation a few weeks ago. Is a fresh installation likely to fix the problem file? Having had problems with Safari installations on two separate occasions, where it wiped out all internet communications, I am quite anxious about running another install. It's bringing me out in a sweat.... I don't recall doing anything 'unusual' to my system config, but I wonder if somewhere along the line I've changed something that caused these problems. Our other Macbook has had no problems with upgrades.
If someone could spell it out to me gently, I would be very grateful!
    Thanks

  • Messages not working since iPhone 5 upgrade

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 5 and Messages has stopped working.  I get some messages through my Mac, and others I don't.  When I send a message through Messages, it isn't reflected on my iPhone 5.  Any suggestions?

    From the menu bar, select

Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.

  • My morphie pack does not work since upgrading

My juice pack (Morphie) Does not work since i have upgraded the ios to 7.1.1
I have two iphones a 4s that has not been updated yet and also the 5s which has been updated. The 4s is working perfectly well with the juice pack but the 5s is absoultely crap to say the least. I complained to Morphie and to their credit the sent me a new pack and it has the same problem. This MEANS since the update there has been a change with apple and they have made our 100€ chargers redundant as I only get 20 - 25% extra battery when I should be getting a full charge
This is not acceptable for phones that are expensive and the accessories that we buy to go with them are also an additional expense and very expensieve to. That doesnt matter too much when they work, but then they dont it is NOT good.
Someone come back to us and give us a solution please.

Thanks guys for the responses but I am not convinced this is a MOPHIE problem. Their customer service department have been great and look after their clients. Mophie have replaced the amost new juice pack that I had with a completely new one that has the same problem...... funny how this has happened since the ios 7.1.1. update
I have been using MOPHIE juice packs for a number of years and have never experienced anything like this before. It seems rather strange that after upgrading I have this problem that APPLE negates to rectify.
Of course I wouldn´t have to use a 3rd party accessory if the battery was made to last and if APPLE had an alternative, I would of course buy apple but they don´t. I am a huge fan of Apple but cannot run a business with phones that cannot be upgraded for the fear of loosing battery life which would mean loosing clients which would mean loosing my lively hood.
Full phone restore was done too.
    Still not HAPPY
Sorry, as already stated your using a 3rd party accessory take it up with mophie.
I have no issue with my mophie after updating to 7.1.1 - so your theory is flawed.
My battery life can last up to a day and a 1/2 - I only bought the mophie as a backup battery and because it is bulky and can protect my phone in case I drop it.

  • Canon Printer mx860 not working since upgrade to Yosemite, it is connected to my Mac via usb.  Any suggestions?  Thanks. LL

My 2009 Canon MX860 Pixma printer not working since an upgrade to Yosemite on my MAC version 10.10. It is connected by USB.  Have had no previous issues with printing, scanning or faxing.  When trying to print my Calendar I only get light vertical dotted lines, none horizontal, no words and vague header colors. Checked printer image on the  on my MAC which shows the same problem.  All of the color and black cartridges are new.
The recent upgrade to the Canon application says it is completed but it is not, image on application upgrade is a circle with an X.
Any suggestions?  Could this simply be a compatibility problem?  I'd sure like to keep my Canon printer.
    Thanks,  LL

Can you open System Information (Applications > Utilities) and select Printers in the left sidebar. If the MX is the only printer connected to the Mac then its information will be shown in the right pane. If you have more than one printer, then a list will be shown in the top right pane. Select the MX to see its information in the bottom right pane. Can you copy this information and paste back here for me to check.
