Netboot (or should I say Neverboot)

OK. Got a copy of Leopard server. Followed Apple's cookbook instructions. First Jabber will not work with Active Directory (but that is not why I am writing). Then I set up NetBoot, created a Netboot image using a Leopard disk and the 10.5 server tools. I then (on a 10/100 network) booted a Macbook to it but it just sits at the grey apple screen with the spinning gear. I mounted my Netboot image and placed Bombich's Netrestore tool in the Apps folder and created Prefs to point to another image that I want to place on my client machine. What am I doing wrong?!? It is NFS and my server and client machine are all Intels. Thoughts appreciated.

Funny I thought the same thing so I put everything on the same switch/subnet. They both connect at 1000mbps on the same switch.
I did use Bombich's tools to create a Tiger Netboot image that was very small and it does boot faster but once booted Netrestore does not see the local hard drive. I obviously need to do more investigation on this.

Why is Firefox v36 asking "Do you want the application 'Firefox.app' to accept incoming network connections"? It never did before, so what should I say?

I'm on a Mac OS X 10.6.8 Have just upgraded Firefox from v35 to v36.
Every few minutes I get a message "Do you want the application 'Firefox.app' to accept incoming network connections?" It's never done that before, so why now (v36) and what should I say?
The message goes on, "Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall panel of security preferences." The other option button is Allow.
The computer has always had Firewall switched on. Is Firefox suggesting I now switch Firewall off? What has changed since v35? Has Mozilla offered any information about this?

IPad mini retina volume - what should I say to genuis?

About ten days back I received a gift of an iPad Mini Retina (32g) from a person I’ve been helping over this past few years. Completely unnecessary; completely taken by surprise; and completely delighted.
With the exception of an old iPod it is my only other Apple product, I need some advice and views from you hardened Apple guys.
Early next week I’m seeing one of Apple’s geniuses for several reasons. The main reason is the issue of volume. Like I’ve read on here and on other forums it seems really quite poor.
I’ve been watching Will Smith in ‘Seven Pounds’ and well it’s just about listenable. If I were to be watching it where there was background noise then I’d probably give up. Yes it is better with ear phones and I haven’t yet got around to streaming it to my TV. I haven’t watched any action films yet but I’m guessing that if there is a gun fight, if buildings are getting burned and blown up there will be no oomph to the sound and sound really is an important part of these films.
Other than Netflix and Bookshelf I’ve put no other apps on the machine and I haven’t transferred any of my music onto it, so with the exception of YouTube, which does seem a little better, I can’t judge what the sound is like there.
Anyway you Apple guys is this a hardware fault, is it a software fault, or to be honest is it just that you can’t expect much volume, much oomph, from a machine of this size?
I’m not tech minded, and as mentioned above I’ve only got this and an old iPod so I’ve no other Apple products to judge it against.
What should I be saying to the guy on the genius counter? What questions should I be asking and what should I expect from him?
I’ve read that these guys can do quite a lot without having to seek authority from above. If this were just a fault on the 32g machine then, if I could negotiate it, I’d quite happily upgrade to the 64g machine.

Just thinking about my problem today and was thinking that before I go near the genius desk that I have one of their sales team demonstrate a machine to me, I'd assume that the demo models would be pretty fine tuned.
Really is a pity about the sound

3gs and I've never backed it up so I decided I should. Says ok to disconnect so I do. Checked music and have 42 of some 435ish artists. Where is my ridiculously expensive music collection? Only voice memos in itunes library. Restore failed to fix.

Years ago I bought a 3gs and have never backed it up so after I cracked the screen I figured it would be a good idea to do so. I download iTunes and plug in the phone. Drivers load then backup in the summary. Everything goes as planned and iTunes tells me it's ok to disconnect. 3 voice memos were synced. Out of all my music, some 435ish 4.5 days of music didn't sync which I downloaded at considerable expense. I thought that was weird so I checked my library on the phone and I have new picture albums from deep within my laptop of junk I saved to reference and I have 42 artists on my phone. Really? I didn't tell iTunes to put pictures on the phone or to take my music off. I just wanted to save my stuff incase the broken screen let in moisture. I hook it up again to restore it and see if that helps and it tells me it will delete what's left of my once great collection because there is already a copy of my file on YOURNAMEHERE-PC. I clicked cancel as that would only add to my problems. I bought this phone new from AT&T in 2010 and it has never been hooked up to any computer that I'm aware of and it's always been password protected. *** is up with that and where did all my stuff go? Then support wanted money to provide support. I knew apple products were somewhat of a scam after losing my first 3gs to an otter box failure but this is ridiculous. Lost the first on to a pool when the otter box clip broke and I had to buy all my music back but this time their program may have possibly robbed me so I have to pay them a third time? I'd love it if anybody could point me in the right direction to resolve this issue and one thing is certain, I'll never buy another apple product again!

I have to tell you that music is not backed up to iTunes backup or iCloud backup file. You should check the part what is in iTunes backup. So, that's why you have not seen these songs after the backup. Of course, because of that, restore can't fix it. And only iTunes store purchased songs on your iPhone can be transferred to iTunes (connect your iPhone to computer > launch iTunes > in iTunes File menu, there is an option for Device 'Transfer purchases'). As for other non-itunes purchased songs, you should find a third-party tool to copy songs from iPhone to iTunes or computer. Search in Google, then you can find a suitable one.

Creating CSS text in Fireworks... or should I say not.

I am so frustrated with Fireworks. I have the latest update, and I am still having problems creating text and exporting as html/css. I've tried deleting elements I though might be causing issues, still no go. I get either no css styling, some styling or some variation in between. I've viewed a few tutorials online and it looks like it should be very easy.
I should state that I am importing a PSD & ILLIO file (tried playing around with both, and still nuttin. Do I need to recreate this fully in FW? Hope not. Will that even work?
I'm a college teacher and I hadn't planned on using Fireworks, but after opening the Overview DVD that came with the software it looked like a great solution for us designers that don't know much or anything about CSS/HTML, now I'm not so sure... and I need to have this ready for my class Wed! Thinking of abandoning FW entirely, which would be dissapointing, cause it seems like a great bridge between design and implementation.
Also when trying to export slices as PNG 24 I am still getting matting even though I have a transparent canvas and have deselected matting in the preview window. Seems really buggy.
Any GURUs that could take a look at my file to lend some help?

PNG 24 does not support transparency in Fireworks. For that you need to choose PNG 8 or PNG 32. Note that Fireworks is a bitmap and graphics editor with multi page prototyping capabilities. Use it for creating mockups for clients, and images for for web pages. It's not a WYSIWYG HTML editor. Use Dreamweaver to build the actual web pages.

Printing a PDF or should I say can't print a PDF

I can print on my HP CP1025 NW from Word, Excel, etc., via cable or wireless, but when I try to print a mailing label from USPS I get an error message saying that I get a "filter failed" message. If I am "wired" to the printer the information looks to be sent to the printer, the green ready light begins flashing, but it never prints and appears to time out. Any ideas??? I have the most current Adobe download.

So what has happened, is my wife went and purchased postage from USPS on her MBP. The label was downloaded and became a Adobe PDF. So when we try to print the file She got a filter failed message.
So, I took the file and emailed it to my MBP and tried to print it. That is when I get the filter failed message if I am going wireless. If I use the USB I get the blinking green ready light and nothing, even after 10 min or so nothing.
So as I currently try to print and go to the File/Print and click on the PDF button as you said, when I select Save as PDF I get a "Can't go to File/Save message". If I pick Preview as PDF I get a "not supported massage". When I select the Save as Adobe PDF it saves it but still does not print.
On Printer/Scanner tile says, "Finding Printer", then "Printing - Connected to Printer" and then goes and goes and nothing prints.

When I try to download, i get from daimajin.mirror.aarnet.edu.au is that how it should be or should it say mozilla

when I click on the download, in the file download security box it says the file is from daimajin.mirrore.aarnet.edu.au and not as indicated on your site which says file from mozilla etc. I just wanted to know if this is safe

BB Speeds - or should I say BB SLOWS

Have tried to get anywhere need the 3.5Mbps that I was promised ever since we had the broadband but to no luck.
Not an issue really as not heavy internet user but it is becoming annoying when connection is too slow for Skype.
I use Skype to speak with my daughter and grandchildren in Australia
I even checked website for ways to improve speed and ordered and fitted the broadband booster from BT.
Since fitting this my average speeds have actually dropped from 0.5Mbps to 0.4Mbps.
I am so glad I ordered the Broadband booster.
Please can someone help me?

Best dual monitor setup (or should I say best value)

Hello All,
As I've shared before, I run a non-profit, but have a background in film. I purchased all of the necessary equipment to shoot and edit our own mini documentaries on our work. I've been doing it for about 6 months now. The results are extremely powerful, and the work is tremendously fulfilling.
So, with each successful piece that I produce, I reward myself with a piece of equipment that will make future productions more enjoyable. Examples have been a Pelican Case, mini hard drive, microphone, etc.
I'm now interested in setting up with two monitors. Right now I'm using a MacBook Pro, and a 19" monitor. Although it works, it's kind of funky. I'd like to get two monitors and am seeking a recommendation. I suppose I should also purchase a full-size keyboard at this point as well.
Any recommendations for the monitor setup?

Please forgive the lack of accurate computer language:
I use my MacBook Pro and a monitor connected via the white cable. I then have a PC connected the the same monitor, using the blue cable from the PC. The monitor I'm using has a button called "Exit". When I press this, I can either have two monitors as part of the Mac setup with FCP, or a single monitor with the PC. The MacBook and the monitor have different resolutions, but the way I have it setup for dual monitor work, it's not a problem. The real problem comes in when moving the mouse from MacBook to monitor. As they aren't aligned, it's kind of a pain.

Hi.. Welcome to the Palm forums. This process is used to install any 3rd party program onto your 700wx. First connect the usb cable and sync. Now on your computer go on the web and find you program/game you are looking for that is in a windows mobile 5 format, compatable with wm5 and download it to your computer. It will be a compressed file in a .zip format most likely. Go to where you saved the file and right click on it and select extract here. Once extracted you should have a setup file which you run to install the program. Follow that process and it will realize it is a windows mobile file and install it accross the cable to the 700wx. When it is finished on the computer it will tell you to check the 700wx for further instructions. At that point check the screen on the device and follow the directions. The key is to download a file that is windows mobile compatable, if you download a palm os format file or other mobile operating system file it will not install. Hope that helps.

FRUSTRATED With Battery Life (or should I say lack of) Incredible vs. Fascinate

I got the Droid Incredible in January (my first smartphone) and for the most part - I love it. I HATE, however, the lack of battery life on this phone.   I have searched the forums and done pretty much all the suggestions from disabling background data & auto sync, changing sync for mail, weather, news, facebook, etc. to either manual, once a day or every 6 hours, I have ATK (although I know there is some disagreement on if it is good or bad), I have my widgets on the screen and my gps, wifi, etc. is always off unless I am using it) and charged the battery last night as suggested by keeping phone on and charging til light was green, then turning phone off (while plugged in) and charging until green and then turning phone on and the battery almost seems worse now.     I find it a bit ridiculous that you have to jump through all these hoops to try and extend your battery life if you are simply using the features of the phone. Isn't that what a smartphone is for basically?
I got up this morning, sent two emails and played one game of spades and my battery went down to almost half!!!!    That just doesn't seem right to me. I usually spend (not at all once) maybe 4 hours a day of phone use??    I charge my battery either twice or at least once a day --
I am curious if the battery life of a Fascinate is battery than that of the Droid???      Or, does anyone have any other suggestions for me?   TIA!

@EmsMom, I know it sounds ridiculous, but the "bump charging" technique did help me a lot. But one difference in how you described it vs. how I do it is, after switching off the phone, I let it get to green. Then unplug and replug. It again takes some time to get to green. I do this about two times and have seen improvement. Other than that, I did post about my specific settings a while back on here. Here's the link:

Keep in mind. If you use other market apps that need to sync regularly, you need to monitor their refresh settings as well.How much battery you end up using also depends on individual usage patterns. So, if nothing else works, I guess you are then left with an option of getting an extended battery.
At the end of it all, I do agree with you! There needs to be some serious research and upgrade to the battery technology to keep up with all these smartphones and how we use them.

The best aftermarket coolers all encroach on the RAM slots.
Change your DIMMs to 2x 1GB DIMMs, and free up 2 memory slots.
If you can find one, a cooler that exhausts to the exterior is the best for the MDD.
This one is the best, but is long discontinued.
These sometimes show up on eBay.
This cooler is a great alternative to the ATI Silencer.
Zalman coolers are excellent coolers, and cool the 9800 very well. A PCI slot fan can help rid the tower of heat.

What ios 5.0.1 brings to my Iphone 4S (or should i say take away)

I've been using 4s for two weeks. i had no problem except battery issue before i updated to 5.0.1 the day before. So it's absolute there is no problem with device it's all about 5.0.1. Yesterday was a nightmare for me. I started to day with sim error, i rebooted. It was my first reboot of a day, at that time i didnt know at least 50 more was waiting. And rest of the day was so quiet because i couldnt be reached, i couldnt call anybody or text . ı dont want to blame apple because after rebooting iphone i could barely call someone within 5 minutes. it's better than nothing. By the way the original problem all about 5.0.1 to solve was much more worse, with ios 5.0 my iphone drained %5-7 per hour but yesterday with ios 5.0.1 it drained more than %10 per hour without it's original purpose being a phone. Last night i restore iphone, it's now a bit better, without rebooting it recovers carrier, lost recover lost .. And i can call or text 1 of 5 attempts. And big surprise i received calls. I am grateful at least my iphone can do what my nokia 5110 could do about 12 years ago with 4-5 tries. Finally my battery consuption is back to % 5-7 per hour.

WHAT A LOW QUALITY KEYBOARD!!! Broken after using for ONE day, what should I do????

I've bought my first thinkpad x230 from lenovo offical online store and recived it on yesterday. I was very exciting when I receive this extreamely light and pretty notebook.
-However, it not last long... After typing a series of numbers, the “5” key was automatically filped open!!! And I can not put it back again!!!
-I can't understand why will this happen in such kind of well-known computer? I have never faced this kind of problem when I using those cheap keyboard!
So, I wan't to know what should I do? I've contacted the tech support, she told me she will submit my problem to some guys and hopefully call me back, however, I didn't receive any call from lenovo.
I've searched on google and found some guy's thinkpad also have this problem....What should I say? How bad luck I am or what a low quality of lenovo? Or both?
Can I bring this poor quality thinkpad to the nearest retailer store to seek for help？ Or I should go to the official service center which is very far from me....
BTW, in this case can I return this notebook for free? Or get a free repleacement of the broken key?

You'll have to phone the service center and ask. (When I lived not far from Lenovo's Canadian service center and wanted to bring in a ThinkPad for warranty repair they said that would be OK with them but my unit would be put on a queue the same as if I'd shipped it in. They simply didn't offer walk-in, while you wait service.)
In the interim it may or may not be possible to reattach the key, even just temporarily, depending on whether it wasn't put on properly at the factory or if it's physically broken in some way. Or you could use an external keyboard until Lenovo sends you a replacement, etc.
I've just call the local service center, he told me that he can not repair individual key, they can just replace the whole keyboard..... How bad luck I am!!!
