NetBoot with user's preferences

hello,
how to set up individual mail or individual preferences of applications for each user logging with an image NetBoot on my OS X 10.5.2 Server ??
i'm trying to put their folder of mail preferences into the library of their homedirectory but no working..

The only way I can think of to do that would be to replace the user folder on the NetBoot image with a link to a remotely located home directory (i.e. /Volumes/Data/brian). I do this all the time with non-NetBoot clients, and I think it would work in a NetBoot scenario... but it probably won't translate well in a multiple user scenario because all systems would have to be configured the same, with the same user name.

Profile folder with user.js preferences

I've been struggling with removing mixi dj on & off for a couple of weeks. I've done everything suggested but everytime I open a new tab, there it is. However, I've found this in the profile folder - Your profile folder contains a user.js file not created by Firefox. When I opened it, there were all the mixi dj files. My question is, how can I delete this? It's not apparently obvious. I can't delete and re-install Firefox to it's default settings because I'd loose all my information and if I back it up and re-install I've still got mixi.

hello, just delete the whole user.js file - if you haven't created it manually, it shouldn't be there in the first place...

How do I pass Settings on my SAPPLM User System Preferences on multiple com

Hello All,
I have put the DLL's for Solid Edge/Solid Work interface under my computer C drive and then registered them. Then I went to Solid Edge and Solid Works went to User System Preferences/ Options to make required settings on the SAP-PLM side (example setting for registering documents, creating characteristics, document load, document save...).
I have to install the interface on multiple computers now in network, with the same settings which I did on User System Preferences/ Options. Do I have to manually go to each computer to do these settings, or the process can be automated. Does my SAP-PLM User System preferences/Options also gets saved in Registery in HUSER SoftwareGedas. Can we mirror these registeries to multiple computers.
Kindly advice.

and press SAVE button in right bottom corner
choose REG file option and export the entries
go to any other PC and run the reg file

 if yes make one entry in host file under C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
 format : <server ip> <servername>
 restart NWDS
2.If not then put the Ip address instead of name inside Window--preference --Sap server Check.
3. Put some different UserId and Password who has deployment rights

After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy

I have just downloaded the trial After Effects CC. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on my Macbook Pro.
When I try to launch After Effects, this message appears:
"After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy'"
I have followed the advice from other posts on this issue regarding resetting all of the permissions in the Adobe folder in my library to read and write , but it doesn't change anything. I still get the same message when I try to launch the program. Moreover, there is no After Effects folder in my Adobe folder, even though it's clearly in my Applications folder.
I also uninstalled After Effects and tried to reinstall it, but to no avail.
I sure would like to give it a try, as I was planning on purchasing it, but this is just one more issue in a long irritating line of issues that have arisen since trying to download it from CC.
Any help is much appreciated.

I am having this problem and this response does not make sense. I made the "Preferences" ,"Adobe" & "After Effects" folder along with the 10.0,11.0,13.0,13.2 folders all read/write. Can't seem to find an answer.

Unable to replace existing default progam setting with group policy preference

I have a bunch of Windows 8.1 machines on a 2003 domain that we're managing using a 2012 server as a domain controller. I have an OU that contains all the machines and a GPO I've linked to the OU. In the policy, under User Configuration -> Preferences
-> Control Panel Settings -> Folder Options I've created various file type associations and set them to "replace" and have checked "Set as default". In the same policy I've also enabled loopback in merge mode, in order to have
the same associations apply independently of the logged in user.
After I do a gpupdate /force on a client machine, the file types that previously had no programs associated with them receive default program associations as defined in the GPO, however the file types that had existing associations are not getting their
associations replaced. The same is also true if I try to change the default program via GPO for one of the file types that initially had their first program association set via the same GPO. The only result is that the new program association appears as a
choice in the "open with" context menu, while the old default association remains intact. I generated a report using modeling on the server and it shows the GPO as "applied" with no errors.
Any pointers as to what could be wrong and how one would go about fixing this? Thanks in advance.

You mentioned that you implemented loopback merge mode. It's possible some of the settings being included in the merge are interfering with your new file associations. Have you checked to see if there are any conflicting file
associations in other GPOs that may be applying? If so, you may want to experiment with loopback
replace mode.
Also check to see if any file associations are being set in the computer configuration settings, since you are attempting to set associations in the user configuration. In a merge scenario the computer policy is processed after the user policy, and
has precedence if any of the settings conflict.

Users&groups preferences pane wants to open in 32-bit mode

Crazy isn't it? The users&groups preferences pane says: "To use the "Users & Groups" preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen (like with 32-bit pps). when I click ok, it says: "Preferences Error, Could not load Users & Groups preferences pane."

I had to reinstall Lion, just running the installer again, not a clean install and the problem was gone. Just give it a try (hopefully) nothing to lose...

Problems With User Account? Try Resolving Font Conflicts!

After installing SL as an upgrade, one of my user accounts could not install software, switch to the other account, or do anything where the system would ask for the account password.
I tried resolving this by doing several things like remove all other language keyboards, deleting all files in the user/library/preferences folder, removing the user/lib/pref/byhost files, and the standard repair permisssions, etc.
I then remembered a message which said something about font conflict when first logging into that user account after the SL upgrade.
So, I went into Font Book and noticed that most of the fonts in the user category had the yellow triangle indicating duplicate copies of those fonts.
I resolved it by deleting all fonts in the user/library/font file. Those fonts were available in the computer anyway so I hope I'm not missing anything. Even still, a missing font is better than the alternative of not being able to install software and make other admin changes from the account.

Spent about 3 hours with Apple customer support and still have the issue with installing updates and everything requiering authentication.

Problems with User & permissions

I am hoping someone can help me, I wasn't sure what category to post this under as i don't know what is the culprit but I am having issues that I think begun with mobileme and have snowballed.
I trialled mobile me when i got my imac, but i found i didn't really use it enough to justify continuing when the trial finished, when i stopped using it, i just unticked a box (and i think maybe i should've turned off all the sync settings first).
I then began to notice that events wouldn't delete from Ical, and i was getting strange double ups on my Ipod. I followed the instructions from the discussions to reset the sync settings and delete .plist etc but it didn't fix it.
I ended up deleting the preferences and the calenders and re-importing them. This fixed it.
I recently updated to 10.5.7 and software updates also updated bluetooth firmware update.
I now find that my dock settings don't stay when i restart (may have been an issue before but i hadn't tried to change anything so don't know). I can set the dock up the way i want it, but when i restart it goes back to the way it was - not just positions on bar, but icons etc not there, things i have taken off are back.
Reading the discussions, i created a new user and it doesn't have the same problems.Points to issue with user account ?
I have deleted the com.apple.dock.plist, run repair permissions several times, but it still doesn't fix the error.
Also after start-up the bluetooth firmware update is open and running, everytime.
When i look Account settings under login items, bluetooth firmware application is there, but if i remove it, it comes back. Also there is Appigo Sync (under kind it says unknown).
Is there a way to repair whatever is wrong with the software settings without deleting everything?

none of your problems appear to have anything to do with permissions.
start by resetting your mobileme sync data

Users's preference filtering system ?

I have written an alert program, and I am wanting to create some sort of a system by which to account for each user's preferences for the purpose of sending specific notification,. like priority or location or whatever else is in the details of the alert. Just a push in the right direction is all i need.
So: an alert comes in. The details are scanned and copied. From those details a way to determine which users need to be notified. thx

For the unknown user, as you said, it's probably a user account from second OS or
action. If you're annoying about this unknown user, then you can remove all occurrences of granted rights to the specified SID with this command icals [/remove[:g|:d]] <Sid>[...]] [/t] [/c] [/l] [/q]

That could be a problem, unfortunately.
But most likely the pages you were on are stored in the History list. Try pressing Cmd+Shift+H to get the History window.
To help prevent this from happening to you again in the future, I can recommend the extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2324/ Session Manager]. It is quite powerful but may not be able to help you any more than the History at this point.

Error (-48) When Backing up /Users/~/Library/Preferences

I recently just tried to do a fresh from scratch Time Machine backup of one of my computers on a new hard drive I bought. However, I noticed that Time Machine would repeated stall out at around 12GB backed up and have to restart the backup from scratch.
From analyzing the console messages and logs, I noticed that Time Machine was having trouble backing up my /Users/~/Library/Preferences ("~" being a placeholder for the name of the account) folder. Specifically, any preference files or directories that were stored there that were not with the .plist extension generated Error (-48) messages in the console. Following those messages the backupd service (i.e., Time Machine) would SegFault and then crash (Console output is below).
The backup completes fine on its own if I exclude the Preferences folders for my user account. However, if I try to include it I get the same old results. Obviously, I have a lot of preference files (like MS Office) that I would like to back up so I am trying to find out (1) what a Error -48 actually menas and (2) what the problem with these preference files is and (3) is there anyway to get Time Machine to not freak out when it tries to copy them over.
Any help would be appreciated.

HT3231 Problem with User & Group panel

I cannot open the 'User & Group' panel. I get Could not load Users & Groups preference pane." How do I fix this?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

User Notification Preference Update Report

We have had our system ( Version R 12 ) in for about three months and everything has been working fine but now we are seeing this error come up
The notification with the ID of 5207 experienced problems when attempting to dispatch an email notification to the role MARKWHIDDEN. Subsequently the notification preference for the following users has been set to DISABLED. Please correct the issue and re-enable their notification preference
I have looked at the related Oracle notes but we just do not understand what they are trying to tell us to do.
