NetCfg Not working at school until I reboot

I use netcfg with arch assistant and for the most part it works great, but when I am at school it sometimes wont connect and i will have to restart before it will connect. I dont know if it has to do with different APs serving the same ssid or something? I have tried to restart network daemon as well as arch assistant but this does not allow me to connect, only after a full reboot will it connect again.

I'll have to try the net profiles restart, but I have tried netcfg2 from the terminal. I will be at school tomorrow so I can try it out, but why would it be doing this in the first place. Should I switch to gnome-network manager? Is that easier or more reliable than netcfg2? It's kinda a pain when I am roaming across networks so often.

T400: Internet does not work when switching networks unless reboot?

Hi everyone,
I can't seem to establish an internet connection when I switch networks (e.g., internet at work, then at home). It gives me an error saying "limited connectivity" or failed to renew IP. This happens for both wired and wireless connections.
I tried turning off the firewall (comodo internet security) along with the windows firewall. I tried letting windows handle all my internet connections. Yet the error still happens. So I just have to simply reboot my laptop, and everything works 100%.
I never had an issue like this with other laptops. Could this possibly have something to do with some of the bundled Lenovo software? I disabled most (if not all) of them since I barely use them.

I had a similar problem with my T400. What wifi card do you have installed?
I had an Intel 5300. Networking was OK with XP Pro installed, but messed up with either Vista Ultimate 32-bit or Vista Business 64-bit installed. All were Lenovo OS images. I tried 2 different 5300s.
I only saw the problem with wifi, but basically if I changed access points or changed from wired to wireless, the first attempt to use the (new) access point would fail to get an address. An immediate reboot would cause it to succeed.
I finally got the issue escalated to a 2nd-tier tech. He sent me a 5100 to try. That fixed it. I doubt it is a hardware issue. It is most likely a Vista/Intel/Lenovo software issue/conflict. IMNSHO, ThinkPad wifi w/Vista is a mess. One of the most fundamental laptop features should work much better than this. Many folks have T-series wifi problems and Lenovo seems to be ignoring it.
Just to add to the excitement, I told a friend buying two new T400s to order 5100s to avoid the problem. He did, and got the machines with XP installed. They both exhibited the same bad behavior Once he updated XP and all the Lenovo stuff, they started to work OK and have stayed OK. Grrrr.....

Installed Flash Player & it works no problem until I reboot.

I am logged in as the administrator on windows Vista.
I made sure no instances of FP were running. I then ran the
uninstall program, rebooted and logged back in
I installed the newest FP and it works fine. Then, I switch
my PC off at night, restart it the following day and low and behold
it is not working again and I have to start uninstalling and
reinstalling again.

FF works on startup but will not open after closing until I reboot.

Until today everything okay. This evening tried to re-open Firefox and it would not. Rebooted computer & Firefox opened OK but after I closed it an tried to reopen, it would not start. Now it appears that Firefox will only open on a fresh restart of my computer. Running W-7 64 bit.

Mail app not working on school wireless network?

I'm confused. When I'm at school and on their wireless network, the internet works fine (I'm posting this from class), but the Mail application will not receive mail. I can access my email account from the web without a problem, but it won't work in the app. Mail app works fine on my wireless network at home, though.
Any ideas?

I have been experiencing similar problems with my connection working in some locations and not in others. It seems to have something to do with what software is being used at the location to block "inappropriate use". What I'm wondering is whether it's actually a timing issue with the firewall delaying the packets or if it is the actual port being blocked. At other times, the messages have indicated that the connection timed out.
As with some of the other people on this forum, my error message is
The server error encountered was: Mail was unable to connect to server “mail.mac.com” using SSL on port 993. Verify that this server supports SSL and that your account settings are correct.
From these locations, I am able to go to the http://www.mac.com site. However, sometimes, the messages take a very long time to load or never complete loading. I don't know if this could be a connected problem. The places where I have the most problems with mail via www.mac.com are also the locations where the mail application has problems.

While updating to 8.3 screen is frozen and will not work. How do I reboot?

Started update to 8.3, verifying update appears and nothing works. The screen has been this way for over 12 hours. Can't even shut down. Is there a fix?

You could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear and it should reboot.

Ichat.. not working at school?

I have a macbook and ive had it since july and ichat has been working fine since then and then just recently today i cant sign on. whenever i try it says: The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost.
I've been at school for a month now and ichat had been working since except just today. ive tried changing my server to 443, using ethernet instead of airport, installed all software updates, and restarted like a million times. i dont know what to do and i'd really like to talk to my friends back home

We just discovered the problem here at the University I work for. It appears that IChat utilizes random UDP ports after the invitation is sent. Instead of using UDP 5190 and 54500 (example) for each, it keeps randomizing the recipient port. So you could have several connections coming back to ports 54500, 54501, 54502 etc.
Cisco, in their latest revision of IOS for the firewall and router, has issues with this. The old "fixup" protocol on the firewall worked flawlessly, however that is gone now (with 7.2.1) and has been replaced with the Inspect command. This doesn't work. On the firewall...if you are Inspecting RTSP and SIP, these need to be removed.
Also, on our border routers we are using dynamic acl's with the evaluate option on UDP. This doesn't work either. We had to create an entry before the evaluate statement:
permit udp any any eq 5060
permit udp any any eq 5190
permit udp any any range 16384 16403
This fixed it....talk about a pain! All the other IM packages worked fine...MSN, Yahoo and AOL...but IChat was the difficult one.

New SAN array not all paths login until reboot

We have a senerio with some of our UCS domains. when we add a new storage array some paths will login to the array but not all will login until we reboot a host. We have 4 UCS domains 6140x, 6248 and 2 x 6296. the older 6140 seems to always login and have no issues the newer seems to only login a single path and sometimes none until a reboot of the blades occurs. the FI up link to Brocade 5300 FC switches. This does not appear Firmware related as the newer 6296 are on 2.2.3b and the other are on 2.1.3e until next main window. I am thinking there is some issues with the upstream brocades and RSCN passing toe th newer FI . Any thoughts and direction as i really don't want to spend the next month rebooting hosts.

Since you are using multiple domains have you verified that you don't have duplicate wwpns between your UCS domains?

Messages on Mountain Lion not working

The iMessage Beta worked fine on Lion (except for the delays, sometimes, but hey, it's a beta). After upgrading to Mountain Lion, however, I'm unable to authenticate, send and receive messages.
I've found that running a PRAM reset (pressing a combination of keys when booting) does fix the problem, but it only works temporarily (until the next boot).
I already tried removing all plist-files, doesn't work. Every fix I found (that is: PRAM reset and booting in Safe-mode) only works one "session" (until I reboot).
When trying to sign in, it hangs for about a minute, and then says it "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.". I already tried turning off my WiFi, and it still hangs and gives this timeout error (so regardless of wether it's actually supposed to try to sign in).
My console shows the following errors:
When delivery fails (that is always, unless I booted in Safe-mode or performed a PRAM reset) and I get this red exclamation mark:
imagent: [Warning] FTMessageDelivery failed! Error (APSErrorDomain:1): Unable to send outgoing message to apsd: (ipc/send) invalid destination port (null)
This always shows up, about 20 times per actual iMessage I tried to send.
When signing in fails (that is always, unless I booted in Safe-mode or performed a PRAM reset)
imagent: [Warning] *** Listener ID: com.apple.dock.extra does not have capability: (Chats), not allowing request
Followed by a backtrace of the internal calls in imagent. However, this (both the backtrace and the warning above) do not always show up in my logs.
Based on the fact that it's working fine on my iPhone and iPad, and it's working fine too on the other Macs in the same WiFi network, I don't think it's a router firewall issue.
Based on the fact that I do not have any firewall (nor the built-in one) running, I don't think it's that it's a local firewall issue either. I already checked my hosts-file, nothing there (except for the default localhost routes).
Apple is working on better unified support in iOS 6, don't know if that solves my problem, but personally, I don't think that would really make sense (since it's definitely a local system issue).
I hope I provided you with enough information, but if you need more, don't hesitate to ask me .

I would have opened Messages > Preferences > Accounts and deactivated the iMessages account (Untick the Enable this account)
Then Quit Messages.
The Restart Messages and then restart the Account.
A Re-install would do it but is an awfully big hammer to use.

Syncing is not working often on my iPhone

If I connect my iPhone to AC adapter to recharge, it's working correctly all the time. But, if I connect my iPhone to my PowerBook to syncing and recharging, most of times it's not working.
Sometimes if I reboot computer or reboot iPhone, syncing/ recharging (between PowerBook and iPhone) is working, but not quite stable. Sometimes it's working and sometimes it isn't.
This problem just happened about one month ago. What could be solution?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

[SOLVED] WIFI connection is not working

Yet Another WIFI issue
When I try 'wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c <(wpa_passphrase "mylongssid" "mylongkey")'
I receive this error:
Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
wlan0: Failed to initialize driver interface
I was on my wifi at home this morning surfing the web and then I went to school (So I hopped to a different WIFI in other words)
It seems no matter what I do with netctl, iw, wifi-menu, and ip link that nothing works. Currently I do know how to set wlan0 up/down, restart my netctl profiles, display iw stuff, scan with iw, etc.
But I do not seem to know enough. Can anybody help by providing some debug commands?

My drivers worked fine this morning at my house, and they usually work at school after a reboot. So I am not sure why you need driver info. My question was what debug commands can help me diagnose my wpa_supplicant error? As in what log files can I check? If I could find a log with a more descriptive error, I might be able to fix my WIFI. Or possibly some logs for netctl? I really do not know, since networking is usually magic in all the easier linuxes I have used in the past.
Thanks for the really quick responses by the way I have never had such a fast help response for any other distro.
Edit: I should note that both my home and school networks have the same type of WPA security.
Update: When I booted my labtop at home, I ran wifi-menu and voila my home network was working. I will try the WIFI at school again tomorrow and post another update after that.
Update 2: Running wifi-menu at school worked today. I have no clue why it did not work yesterday. (I really should setup netctl-auto)

USB device does not work after sleep

The problem in the following:
X230t in tablet mode,
connect to the USB port of the adapter USB to COM Port (ftdi232) all works fine,
but if not disconnect the adapter from the USB port and put the laptop into sleep (or hibernation) the following inclusion is not determined USB adapter (or other device) and does not work pen (stylus)
until you restart the laptop.
What to do?
How to fix it?

Touch ID not working after IOS 7.1 update

Touch ID will not work after the recent update, rebooted iphone to no avail. I then deleted all finger prints, but iphone will not recognise new fingerprints ..... Annoyed is not the word ! Any ideas ?

Mac mail not working after OS 10.9.5 update

I have the same problem as other users.
Since last update of the OS to 10.9.5, the MAIL app does not send email.
It just does a few times a day, on and off.
I tried to take all accounts offline and then take all accounts online again, so many times, does not work.
I tried to reboot; does not work.
I tried deleting my accounts and creating them again, does not work.
I started to like that app, makes me sad to see how bad it got this week.
Does anyone know what is going on??

On and Off, that's the reason I am 100% convinced it is a software update issue.
It seems that Mail does not connect to servers as it used to.
Sometimes it would work great for a while, and turn back down again for no reason.
Apple will not read those comments as it is a place for mac users only. The only thing we can do is send 1 email per day, that's what i am doing, to "Provide Mail Feedback" in Mail on the bar to complain so they hear about the problem and try to solve it.
Any mac user of the community could help, apart from saying just do not use this app anymore?
