Netflix Dolby Digital 5.1 gone after udpate

Hi,
Is anybody (or everybody) else having that problem ?
Last week I was playing Netflix movies in Dolby Digital 5.1 but now the same movies on the same hardware (Apple TV/ AV reciver) are not Dolby Digital anymore but only prologic.
Other Apple TV items (ie. movies, shows, itunes festival) have no problems streaming in 5.1.
It look like this happen at the time of the latest Apple TV OS update.
Is this a Netflix issue or a Apple issue ?
Tried to contact Netflix....they don't have a clue.
PS, I have the latest generation of Apple TV and I update my Apple TV OS last week (so i'm up to date).

I've encountered the exact same issue. Ever since the latest Apple firmware update I can't get the Netflix app to send a Dolby Digital signal to my receiver. I've tried everything but it just does Pro Logic II. This is for content on Netflix that I know is Dolby Digital 5.1 supported.
As you've said, Dolby Digital still works fine for other content (iTunes festival, movies, etc) but Netflix doesn't seem to trigger it. Something is not quite right with this firmware and Dolby Digital. I can't remember for sure now but I think that, before this firmware, my receiver always had the Dolby Digital light on when the Apple TV was on (even when on the home screen). It now seems to be Pro Logic II all the time except for specific content.

  • Dolby Digital doesn't work after 2.3 update

Ever since I upgraded our Apple TV to 2.3, the Dolby Digital out has stopped functioning. I've tried toggling the setting on the Apple TV on and off, but my receiver doesn't detect it outputting 5.1 anymore. It just says PCM on it, which is what it says when the Apple TV is pushing stereo sound through the optical cable, and no sound comes out at all. I know it's not just one file, because I've tried all the DD files on my system, and I know my receiver didn't just die on me because I can do DD through my XBox 360 no problem. I found an older posting where someone said they had the same issue with the 2.2 update, and never resolved the problem. I tried restoring to factory defaults, and that didn't do crap. And since I have one of the original Apple TVs, the factory defaults were before there was DD support, so I have no way of testing if it's just 2.3.
Anyway, my Apple TV is well beyond the warranty, and it seems ridiculous that a software update could kill my DD, but it seems like that may have been what happened.
I guess it is worth mentioning that I did have Boxee installed on my Apple TV before the 2.3 update, but restoring to the factory defaults should have wiped any traces of that.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, or a way to try to install 2.2 instead of 2.3, I'd really appreciate it!

I probably should have mentioned that I did not use Apple-supplied files. I was using stuff I encoded myself. I found the answer in another thread, which stated that DD/AC3 5.1 tracks only play if the file also contains a 2-channel track. This didn't used to be required, but they seem to have started to enforce something that was specified in a KB document a long time ago.
The work around is to make a five second AAC clip of silence and paste that into the start of the movie file that is giving you trouble. If you don't know how to make one yourself, someone posted one on the other thread: http://www.2shared.com/file/4328690/3308d5ee/Audio.html (just click the "Save file to your PC" link in the bottom-right corner). I don't think you should have to do this with stuff you bought through iTunes, but if you rip your own DVDs and whatnot, you have to make sure you do that from now on (or until Apple goes back to the old way to stop people from complaining).

  • ATV3 - I need to enable dolby digital for optical surround sound (netflix and home movies), but when I do this it stops audio coming through TV speakers

I have a cinema sound receiver connected to Apple TV via optical cable.  When I have dolby digital set to Auto it doesn't come through as dolby digital when watching movies on netflix and iTunes (home movies).
If I set Dolby Digital to ON it works as expected, but the sound stops working through normal TV speakers (via HDMI).  This is the same for netflix and home movies.
I tried 16 bit setting, but it made no difference.
Any advice on how I can get this working - meaning Dolby Digital always on for when I turn my surround sound on and sound through speakers for normal operation?
Obviously I can change the setting when needed, its just a pain.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello everyone,
here is the friendly and signed driver installation method to enable Dolby Digital Plus in your Encore internal speakers only. This is not an official driver, there is no control panel for Dolby Digital Plus or various sound effects, but tested and has much better and richer surround sound quality as before with factory driver. I guess, this driver tweak can work with any Bay Trail tablet also.
How can you upgrade Encore sound drivers:
    1. Download signed driver package and extract.
    2. Open Device Manager.
    3. Upgrade your Sound, Video and game controllers
    - Intel SST Audio Device
    - Realtek I2S Audio Codec
one by one with "Have a disk" method.
    4. Double click enabledolby.reg file and add to your registry.
    5. Restart, and enjoy better sound quality.
    Thanks.

  • Dolby Home Theater V4 changed to Dolby Digital Plus after Realtek Audio Driver update Windows 8.1

Hi,I'm now using Ideapad Z510. After upgraded to Windows 8.1. I'd went to the Lenovo website searching for new driver update.
But, after i install the "Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.7023", the "Dolby Home Theater V4" is not running(audio sound not playing through). And, the "Dolby Digital Plus" is running instead of "Dolby Home Theater V4".
Then, when I try to reinstall the older version "Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.6954" from Lenovo website, the "Dolby Home Theater V4" is running again.
Truly, the "Dolby Digital Plus"'s sound is crisper and louder than "Dolby Home Theater V4". But the sound of "Dolby Home Theater V4" has more bass and more function (like Graphic Equalizer, more Intelligent Equalizer etc.).
Is this an update or what?
What should I choose? The newer driver (for Windows 8.1) or older driver (for Dolby Home Theater V4)?  Thanks. (confused now) @@

    Hi all
Could you try out DAA or DHTLightweight from my link and just install the Dolby software without overriding your Realtek Driver? I am not sure whether would it work, but worth a try. I have tried on Y460, W520 and G560 with great experience.
If the older Dolby software does not work with your existing Realtek driver, you could install the DAA or DHTLightweight with their driver to overwrite and see how it goes.
    Thank You

From what I've seen, the most of the problems with the cards are with the 64-bit drivers. My Audigy 4 also works with the XP drivers of the CD and Vista B2 drivers as much as they should. Many people don't realize that it is a beta driver, on a new OS (which is now in final development) so some things will and will not work. Also many people don't read readmes and such and still complain on things that where stated. Such as the Vista B2 drivers for the Audigy series
    Known issues:
    * Waking your computer from sleep or hibernate mode stops audio output. To resolve this, restart your computer.
    * In this download, the Effects Amount slider in EAX is disabled.
    * To configure your speakers, use Audio Console only. Configuring your speakers in "Audio Devices and Sound Themes" in Control Panel may result in loss of audio during playback in Windows Media? Player. To resolve this issue, close and reopen Windows Media Player again.
    * This download does not support
o Dolby? Digital or DTS? decoding
    o CMSS?-3D
    o recording
    o 6. speaker systems
All thats stated is pretty much what people are complaining. Though its stated what won't work, they may work due to its a general driver and not a specific driver. So some may have somethings working on one card, and not on the other.

  • TS5150 No Dolby digital, only PCM 2ch @ 48 k. Tried every method. Get DD with xbox360 on Netflix but only PCM on Apple TV .

I can't get my Apple TV to send a Dolby Digital signal to my receiver. I have tried going through my tv, HDMI in optical out to the receiver, optical direct. Switching DD on and off in the settings menu, ext. if I use Netflix on my xbox it's in DD no issues. I have a Rotel RSX 1065. I know that it is not the issue. If I disconnect the optical cable from the Apple TV the signal is lost, not an input conflict. Reconnect and it's in PCM 2ch @48k.

Hold select down when playing in Netflix to see if it give you any audio options.
Also it is not necessarily the case that Netflix uses the same media file for all devices - the servers may be tailored to feed an optimised file for the device playing it back.

  • Netflix titles not in Dolby Digital

I use a digital optical cable to connect my Apple TV to my Sony receiver because my TV does not support Dolby Digital pass-through via HDMI. I've discovered that Netflix titles won't play in Dolby Digital. I can verify this because my Sony's display shows LPCM.
I can get DD output from the same Netflix titles using my TV's Netfix app or my Sony receiver's Netflix app and I can also get DD output from purchased movies and TV shows on my Apple TV. The receiver displays "Dolby Digital".
Is it possible that the Apple TV isn't passing through DD from the netflix app?
    Thanks!

To answer my own question and to those having the same issue, it turns out to be a bug in the latest Apple TV software update. Here's a similar discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6012766?start=0&tstart=0.

    I have lenovo edge E531 with 8gb ram, intel core i5-3230M 2.6GHz, GeForce 740M

    hi sotim01,
    Thanks for posting!
    1. Uninstall all components,
Open Device Manager and Uninstall your Conexant audio under Sound and ganing controllers (make sure to place a check under delete driver software for this device)
    2. Open Control Panel Uninstall a program and highlight the dolby component and an Uninstall button will appear.
    3. Open your C: drive and Delete any folder that says drivers if non then continue with the next step
    4. Download this Driver for installation
            Conexant Audio Driver
    Install it and continue
    5. Open Drive C: now and you should have the Drivers folder back.
Open that, Open Connexant Open Dolby Gui,  then you should have Dolbyaa for Advanced audio.
Restart your PC and there you go!
    Let me know your findings
    Cheers!

  • HD TV Show... can't get Dolby Digital 5.1 to Work

I just bought an episode of Chuck (from NBC). In the description of the show it says that it has Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. I have my macbook-pro hooked up to my surround sound system using a mini-toslink -> optical connector. When playing the episode the Stereo track plays just fine... but if I switch to Surround.... I get no sound.
    Any ideas?

I bought LOST season 5 season pass.
I only found out about this 'non-feature' after trying for ages to get it to work and searching for a solution.
When I first complained I got told by support that it was probably a hardware issue and to call the support line. I did, got the same answer, and was then asked to part with more money for continued support, which I declined. I asked point blank whether DD5.1 really only plays back on Apple TV - which was denied.
After continuing to pursue it I finally got an email from 'tier 2' support admitting that 5.1 does only plays back on an Apple TV: here's the text:
+This is+ name removed +from iTunes Store Customer Support and your request+
+has been escalated to me today. I understand that you have been+
+unable to use Dolby surround sound on your computer for your iTunes+
    +Store purchases.+
+Dolby 5.1 surround sound is currently only available for the Apple+
+TV. Apple recognizes that no one is better qualified to provide+
+feedback about the content provided on the iTunes Store than the+
    +people who use it.+
I got back to them to say I'd like a (small!) partial refund - to cover the costs of my phone bills and disappointment. They've gone silent.
I've now reported it to Trading Standards in the UK as it is misselling. Curiously - since i complained the 'About HD' section - where it used to say +on your Apple TV or Computer+ has been changed.

  • MSI GTX 580 Lightning XE - no DTS-HD and no Dolby Digital TrueHD?

    Hello,
I have just upgraded from the gtx 460 to 580 Lightning XE and the above audio formats are gone. I thought the 280.26 drivers caused it so I went back to 275.33 and DTS-HD and DD TrueHD are still missing.
Since the gtx 460 supports these formats I presumed that the 580 does as well.
In Playback Devices > Supported Formats, only 3 formats are listed: DTS Audio, Dolby Digital Plus and Dilby Digital
In Nvidia Control Panel, the HDCP is not supported when I select my TV/amp. When I had my tv/amp connected via hdmi cable to gtx 460, all was functioning correctly, all formats were listed.
PowerDVD and Total MediaTheater worked perfectly fine playing dts-hd an dd truehd from bluray discs, now these formats are just not available anywhere. Only normal DTS and DD is played.
I really hope that this is a software issue
DTS-HD and DD TrueHD are supported from HDMI 1.3 version. The GTX 580 chip supposedly supports HDMI 1.4a. NVIDIA and MSI please fix it!
Here's the fix request form, please can as anyone request a fix through this form? http://nvidia-submit.custhelp.com/app/ask
The chip 580 should support DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD.

have you tried msi's drivers too? http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N580GTX-Lightning-Xtreme-Edition.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7%2032
No I haven't. I didn't even think of that. I always go for the official nvidia drivers. I'm downloading it now.
edit: Installed them drivers, and no change. DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD are still missing.
    I found some "info" here:
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4008/nvidias-geforce-gtx-580/4
    Quote
NVIDIA slightly revised their display controller for GF110/GTX580; the good news is that HDMI 1.4a is supported, the bad news is that full audio bitstreaming is not supported so it’s the same as it was on the GTX 480: 8 channel LPCM and lossy audio formats like DD+ and DTS. This actually caught us off-guard since we were expecting the full GF104 treatment here, but it just goes to show that this is a GF100-derrivative after all. Unfortunately this also extends to the number of displays supported – NVIDIA still only supports 2 displays on one card, so you need to run in SLI if you intend to take advantage of 3DVision/NVIDIA surround across 3 monitors.
If that's true, it doesn't look good..

  • Dolby Home Theater/Dolby Digital Plus not working

Update: Issue gone today. Dolby working properly. Still using same drivers. (Win 10 64-bit). How? I don't even know. edit: I think turning off "Hey Cortana" fixed it for me.

    MattSharp ha escrito:
Dolby Digital Plus has miraculously started working, though it looks very different to the last time I used it (it used to be a lot smaller and said Home Theater rather than Digital Plus) but its better than nothing.Hi, DDP is not DHT, dolby provides a separate software for each and thats why it does not look the same.I read on the net that DDP was not as good as DHT, but I don't know... Anyway I´m on a V5-552G and I have had these problems before with a clean install of 8.1 and again this week with the upgrade to W10. Let me tell you what worked for me but before we begin just let me say that Dolby Home Theater has always given me problems and will sometimes just turn off and other times the icon in the taskbar would go away or just not respond. I´m hoping it's more consistant on W10 though I dont see why it would be. The only driver that ever worked properly with Dolby was the driver for windows 8 (not 8.1). the new driver on the Acer site for winodws 10 did not work either. So the one I´m using and I´m listening music to with DHT while writing this is: Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.6878_W8x64_A To get dolby to work: 1. Uninstall the current driver, and any software related to it (the dolby software) 2. restart 3. Install the driver for windows 8 (in my case it never installs dolby automatically, I´ll explain how to do it manually below) 4. Restart twice (yes, I always had to restart twice after the install otherwise manually installing dolby would not work and I got an error when trying to run the install) 5. In the driver folders you downloaded and unzipped go to the folder "PCEE4" and run "DolbyHomeTheater.msi" 6.If you dont get the "Install PCEE" error, restart and you should be able to enjoy dolby (when its not acting up). If you get the error then you may have not followed the instructions properly. Go back to step 1 Good luck guys

  • Dolby Digital Auto Setting Doesn't Work w/4.4.2?

I have a bunch of old movies that were recorded in stereo, pre-Dolby, and of course, a bunch of newer in Dolby Digital.  After upgrading to Apple TV iOS 4.4.2 yesterday, I now find that the Settings/Audio & Video/Dolby Digital/Auto setting no longer works.
I just started a new iTunes downloaded movie with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and noticed that it was playing in PCM stereo-only mode for some reason.  I then tried a couple of other older iTunes downloaded movies with 5.1 sound, and they all were playing in the same old PCM stereo mode, as well.  To get the new movie to play in 5.1 sound, I had to manually change the above Dolby Digital setting to ON.
A similar issue applies to older movies in pre-Dolby stereo.  If the above setting is set to Dolby Digital ON, those older movies switch from normal stereo to Dolby Digital 1.0/Center channel only sound, so I have to either switch the Dolby Digital setting to OFF or back to Auto, which defaults to PCM stereo for everything now.
Is anyone else experiencing this change?  The Auto function worked perfectly for me before this upgrade.
I'm using an Apple TV 2 with an optical connection to my audio amplifier.  The movie is streaming over my wired gigabit Ethernet home network from my iMac.

Seems to be an issue for some of us since 4.4; see other thread.
