??Netflix for Playbook app or Android Player???

Hello
Does anyoneknow when the netflix app for Playbook will be available or when the android player will be available?

Probably end of 2015. RIM Executives have no clue, with the holidays coming up how could the not have at least some of the features of the 2.0 upgrade available. Whats up with these dudes?

PlayBook App to Android App...

Hi,
I've developed some apps with FB for the Blackberry PlayBook. Now, I'm looking at porting them to Android. The problem I have is that there is many screen sizes for Android.
Do any of you have any tips, or what do you do to make your apps fit all of the screen sizes? What scale mode do you use? Do you make your assets one aspect ratio and leave borders around the app if it doesnt fit perfectly?
Also as this will be my first Android app, do any of you have any tips or anything I should be aware of?

Are you using Flex & MXML or is it a pure ActionScript project?
Apart from the screen resolution you need to take the screen size into account. A button (or piano key ;-] ) on a Playbook 7" screen at 1024x600 will have a different physical size in centimeters than on a 10" Honeycomb tablet at a similar resolution, and may be harder to hit with your finger. Don't measure in pixels, but measure in cm's, mm;s or inches. Also, be aware that the DPI reported for many Android devices is incorrect and needs to be overruled.

My approach is to use Flex's built-in alignment. I've also found that contrary to Adobe's recommendations, on most modern devices (Playbook and the better Honeycomb tablets), performance is more than adequate to use MXML and vectors to skin most components. I tend to use pure AS only for components that need to be really performant, such as components that are in item renderers of long lists. There is little reason to code a dialog in AS if it only pops up once in a while.
I've also found that using Flash to create vector assets, and embedding them in Flash Builder works quite well. Vectors are easy to scale, and careful use of bitmap caching, object pooling and re-use helps a lot.
Now, if your app needs to run on older or less powerful hardware (e.g. cheap Android 2.2 tabs), or if it's a fast-moving game where framerate is important, then that's a very different matter. But do test the various approaches on different devices, because all roads lead to Rome...

Dopdown list for Mobile Apps (like Android Preferences)

Hi!
I'm new in programming mobile apps with Flash Builder 4.6. There are many components like CalloutButton, DateSpinner... which one are very easy to implement in an mobile app.
But one realy import thing I cannot find. It's something like a Dropbox or SelectionList - like for example the preferences in Android (see picture).
Has someone a simple working example - would be very great!

I left BB for the same reason a few years back. Have spent time with Apple and Samsung and am now selling my Galaxy S3 and returning to my Bold 9700 - just loathe touch screens and I think the Apps on BB are much improved - often just under a different name than the android ones.

Android player for playbook

Has anyone managed to get the android player for playbook?

You don't see the Android player until you open an application that uses it. When you open an Android application it will show a bar at the bottom with an arrow on the lower left corner. That's how you know you're in the Android player.

Playbook OS 2.0.0.7971, Android Player can't see WiFi

Hello Everybody,
Yesterday I got my Playbook. During setup I got updated to OS 2.0.0.7971. Visited Playbook appstore and installed Wattpad (which apparently is an android app that runs on the integrated Android Player (not available as a separate app anymore)). Everything works all right except that it cannot see my WiFi connection and hence, cannot do anything useful. I also sideloaded Kindle, Pulse reader, and some other apps that run on the Android Player. NONE of them can access the internet (can't see the WiFi). As a result, I cannot even register my Kindle app.
Anybody having similar issues on the OS 2.0.0.7971? I think my Android Player version is 2.0.0.56 (that is what it shows at the bar below). Please suggest what I should do to fix these. Without the Kindle app, the whole Playbook thing kinda becomes pointless to me :-(

Since we upgraded the software, nothing but trouble. Can't see wireless network, can't connect manually to the computer (to copy files off), can't connect to wireless manually. Totally useless.

PlayBook Help with Android Apps / Google Apps ** Advice Needed Plz **

Good Evening Everyone, I need some help and advice please regarding a Playbook.
I had a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" and found that firstly i could not move apps to SD Card so i sold it.
But now i want to buy a Blackberry Playbook and understand that Android Apps are on the new software update.
But i am trying to find out if i can buy them from Google Android Apps as i have a Google Account and used to buy android apps from there, can they be used on the Playbook??
Finally can someone advise me if there is a SD Card external port if i wanted to add a extra 32GB of storage. Looked everywhere on the Spec but with no joy finding out.
Any help and suggestions would be really Handy.

1) a far as I know, no SDcard reader available for the PlayBook currently.
2) Android apps, that you can download from the Google Play with your Google Account will not work on anything else than an Android powered tablet.
3) what you have certainly read on the internet, is that "the PlayBook can run Android apps", which is not exactly true.
What is true is this, and you will be quite disappointed:
A) applications for the PlayBook are either web applications (like GMail using the browser), or applications installed from the App World (it is a Blackberry store, just like the AppStore for iOS or Google Play for Android).
B) for a given developer that has developped an application for Android, it is very easy to convert their app to the BlackBerry format, and publish it on the App World.
====> basically, if you want to install an application that is available for Android, you have to wait for the developer to port the application to the BlackBerry PlayBook.
for the financial issues, I believe that if you buy an app on Google Play, and the app is available on the App World, then you have to buy it again (and vice versa).
I will end by saying that if the only reason for you to sell your Galaxy Tab 2, is that the apps cannot be moved to the SDCard, then I am not sure the PlayBook will suit your needs for that aspect.

Sayit App for Playbook doesn't work

I cannot get Sayit for the BB Playbook to work. The program states to allow permissions for mic but I don't have any settings to do so After numerous reinstalls (3 different playbooks) still doesn't work. The company doesn't respond to my emails so It leaves me with the impression they are a bogus outfit. Anyone else stuck with apps from BB App world for Playbook that don't work ? Be nice if someone could set up a thread that says which ones work and which don't. This would save time and money for people who pay for an app and then don;t get support ,.At $5.00 per app and maybe thousands of user who download it !!!

Apple doesn't vet or test apps. those apps meet certain requirements and they're in the app store. Look through there, you'll see plenty of 0 or 1 star apps.
There are millions of apps and Apple doesn't vet them.
the facebook app hasn't worked right in years, Apple doesn't care, it's up to Facebook to make their app work. Same applies to Charter
they will not make a developer make their app work well, they let 'survival of the fittest' rule...good apps get good ratings, bad apps get poor ratings, well rated apps rise to the top, poorly rated apps fall to the bottom.

Use the iSwifter browser from the app store. Works for most flash content.

Where to find apps for Playbook only?

I do not own a Playbook yet, but likes te buy one. First I want to see which apps are available for the Playbook. It is hard to find apps in the http://appworld.blackberry.com because most of them are for BB-phones, not foor tablets.
Is there a way to filter apps only for Playbook?
I like Evernote, but it is not for Playbook available. ( http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/1700/?countrycode=NL )
Or is there an app-store for Playbook only? Where I, as an interested customer, can look around?
A To-do-list app like MyTasks? I can't find one.

After clearing cash on mac applications won't lunch any more..I tried to delete apps like VLC player with app cleaner and again download and instal new but it's the same..goes for all apps that are not originally part of Yosemite. Please advise me?!

I have done this cash clean up very often on Maverick without any problems. This time I done it again because I could not open my web site, the server has blocked me and I was trying everything including deleting cash from mac. Please advise me what to do..?!? It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?

I work for a organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad and want to continue this through 2015.
At the moment we can only create apps for the iPad platform. If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We do not need multi-folio apps as we are not a publishing company.

Hi Bahar,
As far as I know, you cannot have your code under source contorl of TFS when work on the mobile app that uses "Android studio". You cannot use Android Studio to connect to TFS hence it's unavailable for your requirement.
If your use Ecliplse, you might integrate with Team Explorer Everywhere and connect to your on-premise TFS.

There is not a local application for Netflix on OSX. You can however install the Netflix "App" for Google Chrome, or another browser. This of course will just load up the Netflix webpage when selected.

How do you contact the people at App World (for PlayBook)...

Does anybody know who I need to talk to regarding App World (for the playbook). It really gripes me when you write a constructive review for an app, but the vender then removes it - surely, this should not be allowed (as it can lead to customers being mislead). I wrote the following review for the UK on-device GPS Map app, and guess what, it was removed!
Not as impressed as i thought it would be for the following reasons:1. Incomplete maps - I've lived in my house for over ten years, yet my housing estate doesn't show up on the map (I wonder if this is the case elsewhere???)!
2. Map scale - When I'm out and about, and zoom into the map, it doesn't always rescale itself; rendering the map useless.
3. GPS Location - Once the App finds your location, and you then move, it doesn't then replot your movement on the map; to re-establish your position, you have keep repressing the button - very poor!
4. Finally, the App just keeps crashing! Your using it, then it just switches off.
Considering all the above, and the price of this App (£9.99!), I am really disapointed. Please fix the issues identified or refund asap.

Possibly the best bet is simply discussing it here. RIM tends to like such feedback to be filtered through the forum, I presume because allowing much direct contact would overwhelm them (these days, with negative feedback!). It's also reasonable in that it gives other people here (users like you, and developers) a chance to comment, expand the discussion, correct misconceptions, and so on. As I understand it, RIM tries to monitor these forums, and in the cases where they may not notice a particular concern, some of the long-time participants have back-channels to escalate serious concerns to their attention. I'm pretty sure they watch the "big picture", and if enough people complain about something, I'm pretty sure they take notice and engage in internal discussions to decide what to do about it. (My main problem with this whole process is that they almost never provide any external feedback to us, even to let us know they recognize certain problems. For example, the PlayBook rapid charger quality problems... it's incontrovertibly a defect, but there's been no sign of any recognition of that on their part.)
That said, I sympathize with you. I'm disgusted by that map vendor's products and behaviour, as I think they give the rest of us devs a bad name, not to mention "hogging" too much of the space in the Newest and Recently Updated lists, among other things.
I'll note one thing, however, though I don't like the idea I might actually be seen as defending them. On the map quality topic, those maps are actually using the OpenStreetMap data, aren't they? (Visit http://openstreetmap.org) If so, the quality of the data isn't something that vendor has control over... OSM is basically just like Wikipedia, in that the content is almost entirely generated by volunteers, people like you and I, who have chosen to contribute. (I've edited OSM for my own town, adding many missing roads, fixing spelling errors, etc.)
If that's true, then I think the vendor ought to have made that very clear to their customers. I'm not too surprised they did not, however, since I believe they knew they couldn't charge people $10 for a poor quality app that was merely giving you access to map data that cost the vendor nothing to provide.
Have you tried contacting the vendor and demanding a refund? It is possible for developers to request that RIM arrange a refund, as I understand it.

Purchased Playbook apps not available for reinstall

Three Playbook apps I purchased (Dead Space, Madden and SimCity), are not showing up in the Uninstalled list in App World so I am unable to reinstall them. How can I get them back?

I am having the same problem and came here looking for an answer. I purchased Madden before the OS2 update. Now they are not showing in my uninstalled list so I cannot get them back.
