Netflix on Safari

Netflix only shows a black screen when I try to play a show in Safari and other websites won't expand videos to full size. Any suggestions?

  • How can I get netflix on safari?

I'm trying to go to Netflix in Safari.  Seems simple.  Tried to add it with my admin password.  Nothing.  Turned off fraudulent sites warning in Safari preferences, Still nothing.  How can I get Safari to open my netflix on my iMac?  No problems with iPad or iPhone...

You should only have to navigate to netflix.com, log on to your account and play a movie.
The only thing you need to install is Silverlight, and Netflix should prompt you to do that when you try to play a movie (if Silverlight is not already installed on your Mac).
Here are the instructions from the Netflix Help Center:
    Install Silverlight on Your Mac
For system requirements, see our Complete System Requirements for Silverlight article.
Follow the steps below to install Microsoft Silverlight:
Click on any title to play.
    Click Install Now.
    Click Save File.
    Double-click Silverlight.dmg in Downloads.
For Safari, the Downloads menu is in the upper right-hand corner of the browser.
For Firefox, Downloads is a separate window located in the Dock.
Right-click or hold Control on your keyboard and click on Silverlight.pkg.
Click Open on the pop-up menu.
Click Open on the prompt that says "Silverlight.pkg" is not from the Mac App Store. Are you sure you want to open it? Opening "Silverlight.pkg" will always allow it to run on this Mac.
Follow the prompts to complete installation.

Make sure your system software is up to date.
Click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click:  Software Update ...
And try troubleshooting Flash. Uninstall then reinstall.

  • Less than two week old iPad Air crashes with youtube/netflix and Safari when loading pages with video (i.e. Buzzfeed with links to youtube and vine). What's up with iPad Air's bugs with videos??

Week and a half old iPad Air crashes with light usage of youtube, netflix and safari pages with video links to youtube and vine. The consistency of problems with videos has led me to determine that it must be bugs with iPad Air. Anyone else having this problem?
Details: iPad Air 16gb wifi, have only used about 25% of space and always close all apps before opening another. I also have only had a max of two tabs open on safari of basic internet surfing (i.e. A google search page, or imdb for example). These crashes are annoying as sh......

I can well imagine that they are.
I would backup, restore to factory settings, restore from the backup and then try again. If that fails, restore again but do not use the backup - restore as new. If the iPad functions OK as new, then slowly rebuild the iPad adding your apps, music etc, methodically to see if you can pin down what might be causing the problem.
if all of that fails, it's time to schedule an appointment at an Apple a Store (must be done online) and have them take a look, or of it is lees than two weeks old, just return it for a refund and buy another one.

  • White blankness for Netflix on Safari and Firefox

This is what I get on Safari and Firefox, screen shot below.  ?  I'm still on Mountain Lion, not sure that matters.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

Eric, thanks!  I have no idea how it got resolved.  Basically after a while the account went back to normal. I used the "Kids" tab and it worked.  After I watched the movie via the "kids" acct. the Netflix account setting went back to normal.  It is a family account (I'm not the payor).  I didn't do anything technically specific or special.

  • Can't install Silverlight for Netflix via Safari (verification failed)

I tried to watch a streaming video on Netflix and was told I needed to uninstall and then reinstall Silverlight as there was an error with my version.  I successfully uninstalled my old version of Silverlight but have not been able to successfully re-open Silverlight.
When I download Silverlight through Safari, the program downloads, but I can't open it because it says "Verification Failed."
When I download Silverlight through Firefox, the program downloads, but I can't open it because it says "Invalid checksum."
I have made sure that my versions of Safari and Firefox are up to date, and I have tried downloading Silverlight from the Netflix website and the Microsoft website.  Also, I have restarted my computer several times, but that doesn't seem to do anything either.
What do I do now? Help!

With both those sites I could download Silverlight but still said "Verification Failed" when I tried to open.
I also tried downloading using Chrome instead of Safari or Firefox. Again, I could download but when I tried to open it said "codec overrun."
I'm guessing its not a problem with the browser I'm using?  Looking at the log of my installed updates, I think I'm current on my system updates.

  • Running Netflix in Safari

I have a macbook running OS 10.5.8 and when I inititally started netflix it had me download the Silverlight software.  When I return to Netflix now all I get is a black screen when I attempt to play anything.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, tried downloading with safari open and with safari closed. I am relatively new to the Mac community so the more details the better.  Thank you!

I just installed global Mac updates for my computer and am now getting the black screen on Netflix. The home page works fine. I belive it is a plug-in issue with netflix, because if I uncheck enable plug-ins under safari>preferences>security, I get a message from Netflix that I just need to install Silverlight.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled silverlight. I have all the proper fonts. Silverlight is working with NBC, but not Netflix.
I am using OS 10.5.8. I am using Safari Version 5.0.6 (5533.22.3). I have installed the latest version of Silverlight.

You would be better off using IE or Chrome.

  • Netflix not working in safari 8

After updating to Yosemite, whenever I try to watch something on Netflix in Safari 8, I get this error. Anyone know what could be going on? Netflix works in Chrome.

    Hi ...
If you haven't downloaded the Silverlight plugin, you need to do that in order to view content on Netflix.
How do I install Silverlight on my Mac?
And check Safari > Preferences Security. Make sure: Allow Plug-ins is selected.
Deleting history and website data can help also.
From your Safari menu bar click History > Clear History and Website Data

  • Safari 5.1, Netflix, OS 10.6.8

I can't seem to run netflix properly after upgrading to 5.1.  I'm still running 10.6.8 and whenever I watch netflix on safari in the minimized mode (not full screen), I get choppy video (not audio).  As soon as I go into full screen it's fine.  I'm almost 99 percent positive it has to do with safari specifically after the 5.1 update because netflix runs fine in both modes (full screen and non-full screen) on both firefox and google chrome.  Anyone else having this kind of trouble?

Why not just revert your Safari? If you're on 10.6.8, you probably value stability, and Safari 5.1 won't cut it for you.
This takes about a minute, but make sure you're backed up first.
    Open Terminal:
    At the prompt, paste this:
    sudo tar -xvf /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/.SafariArchive.tar.gz -C /
Enter password, acknowledge warning (nod sagely), hit return. Terminal goes mad reporting progress.
Previous version of Safari is restored at this point.
Then at the prompt, paste this:
    sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.Safari51SnowLeopard.*
This deletes the receipt for Safari 5.1.
Quit Terminal and reboot immediately. Previous version of Safari should be installed and working perfectly.

  • Netflix won't stream higher than 1750 kbps in Safari

After the Yosemite 10.10.3 update, Netflix in Safari will not stream higher than 1750 kbps (which is only 720x480 and barely DVD quality).  Previous to the 10.10.3 update, Netflix would stream (HTML5) up to 5800 kbps.  As at test, I have streamed the same Netflix video ("Example Short 23.976") multiple times of the day: the attached picture shows that Safari (left) is maxed at 1750 while the Chrome (right) stream is maxed at 3000 kbps.   I was unable to find anything mentioned on the Netflix site regarding this problem.  The timing of the problem strongly suggests that something changed in Yosemite 10.3.3/Safari 8 which is limiting the stream bitrate.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
    Yosemite 10.10.4
    Safari 8.0.5

It's not an Apple/Netfix issue.Iit's an issue between Netfix and your broadnand provider.
Glad to hear it's resolved for you, either way!

  • Why can't i use full screen on netflix?

With Firefox, using my MacBook Pro (3 weeks old)I cannot go to full screen when running a movie on Netflix. It worked fine on my older MacBook Pro.The screen goes dark after 2 attempts.
However I can go to full screen on Netflix using Safari.

Try to disable the hardware acceleration in the Flash Player.

  • Why is the menu bar and dock staying on top when trying to watch videos on Safari/Chrome?

I just re-installed OS X Yosemite on my macbook pro. When i try to full screen videos (such as Netflix) on Safari, Chrome, etc. the menu bar stays on top of the screen, as well as the dock. The only work around is to open the browser in full screen and then hit full screen when watching the video. This was never the case before on Yosemite or other OS X versions....
    Thanks!
