Netflix streaming has slowed again

Is anyone else experiencing slow Netflix streaming speeds?  Once Comcast and Netflix signed their peering agreement last year, I had no trouble streaming in HD.  For the past three weeks, none of my devices will stream at a quality higher than 50%.  The picture is so heavily pixelated that it's nearly unwatchable on a large screen.  I tried streaming through the app on my Sharp TV, the app on my Sony DVD player, a Kindle Fire, and on a PC.  None of them reach HD quality.  My connection tests at full 25/5 speed, so I'm wondering if the peering issues are popping up again.  I've tried everything I can think of, including different cables, bypassing the router, deactivating/reactivating the devices, resetting the TV, different DNS servers, and plugging into different ports on the router.  Both the TV and DVD player are connected by an ethernet cable, so wifi is not the issue.  I suspect Comcast is going to tell me to contact Netflix, and Netflix is going to tell me to contact Comcast.  It doesn't appear that the issue is temporary, or something that will eventually go away on its own.  If anyone has any ideas of what I can try next, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Netflix still slows down from 9PM to 1AM every night.  I am on a wired 4K Netflix service through an app on my TV, and it runs full 2160 until evening, when the stream drops from 16M to 5M.  I've had the 4K Netflix app on my Sony since they started it in Feb 2014.  It is only in the last two or three weeks that this evening speed slow-down has happened. Comcast read me their press release about throttling, insisting it's not them.  Netflix says if it's in 4K, they deliver it to all ISPs at full quality, so it's not them.   I will say Comcast is looking into it, but every third rep I speak with, goes back to that throttling press release, so I have to start explaining all over again. Also, Comcast upgraded my Blast service from 50M to 75M, and even during the evening Netflix slowdown, the wired PC runs at 90M d/l.   Pic 1 is daytime speed, pic 2 is service during prime time.

  • Netflix streaming has become frustrating

Netflix streaming has become frustrating as it constantly stops to load. I have a Time Machine 802.11n 4th generation within site of my Mac and Sony television. Modem is 2 years old and operates fine as I had my ISP run a check on it. I have done all resets per troubleshooting sites, and all is wireless. My current download speed is 28.28 Mbps and upload is 5.81 Mbps per Xfinity. Any suggestions or items I should check on?

Netflix operates with very little bandwidth, about 4Mbps as I understand it.. so 28Mbps download should be fine.
Is anything else using the bandwidth??
Bypass the TC and use ethernet direct to the modem and check that it works fine.
I presume you are using wireless to download?
Your TV might be too far away from the TC or might get poor signal due to walls or interference.
Try placing the TC closer.. try setting manual channels and test on 11, 8, 6, 1 in that order.
Make sure nothing else is using the wireless network when you are trying the netflix.

  • Streaming has slowed to a crawl on my MacBook Pro. This is using both Safari and Firefox. What can I do to return streaming speed to normal?

I have been trying to look through Activity Monitor but nothing looks strange there. This happened all of a sudden about 2 weeks ago and has continually become worse and worse to the point that a video won't even stream beyond 2 or 3 seconds past the point being viewed.

Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue.
How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?   How much ram do you have?  Is it maxed out?  How are you connected to the internet when streaming?  Ethernet connection is faster than wireless.  Especially when it comes to streaming.
Check with your isp to determine if the issue is on their end.
Check your computer speed on the Speedtest website.

    Hi
You have been suffering from some hub disconnections these have increased your noise margin which in turn has reduced your connection speed you now need to maintain a stable connection for at least 5 days and then post back if there have been no changes then we can get  the matter investigated

  • FIOS Quantum- Netflix Streaming Issues

Setup: Actiontec Rev I Router: 50 foot Cat5 cable to Roku XDS device. Speed test always indicates 50MBS download speed.
Netflix streaming has always worked but quality level varies and rebuffering and downgrading usually occurs. I'm often able to start out with 4 dots (highest streaming rate and quality) but often rebuffer and downgrade to 3 or 2 dots. With Roku set to debug, the stream speed is dropping when this occurs.
Amazon seems fine or, at least, much better.
I assigned the Static DNS address recommended by Roku. No help.
    Any ideas?

If you're have issues this evening, it's probably due to reasons like below. I'm impressed with how high the latency is at the last ALTER.NET hop given that it's within Verizon's network.

Since downloading OS X Yosemite I have been having issues with Netflix. Video slows down which causes the audio to go out of sync. Netflix plays ok on ipad which makes me think it's the software which is the issue. Has anyone else had this issue?

    Try this:
Go to System Preferences - Bluetooth. Delete the keyboard from the list of devices by pressing the "-" button. Take the batteries out of the keyboard and reinsert them. In Bluetooth Preferences press the '+" button to add the new device. If the keyboard begins to pair, click the word "pair" and type in the passcode. Press return. The keyboard is now paired.
If the mouse is not pairing, try this: shut down the computer completely, unplug any USB mice, then turn off the power to the bluetooth mouse.  ONce the computer starts up again, wait for the pop-up looking for a mouse.  Turn on the power to the bluetooth mouse.  It should work normally now.

  • Netflix streaming slow

I have an macbook air circa 2009 and whenever I attempt to stream netflix, especially in full screen the streaming video slows down, hangs up or just stops.  Is there anything I can do with the settings to speed things up.
    Thanks,

Most likely you can't fix your issue.  FIOS and Netflix and been in a small war since last Summer.   The problem is before your house.

My Photo Stream has suddenly stopped pushing photos from my iPhone 4s to my PC although they are appearing on my other iPhone. Any ideas why or how to fix the issue? I have not altered any settings.

    Hi Kevinmvb,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this.  It sounds like you may have moved your photos out of the Uploads folder where they need to reside.

  • Since I purchased Mountain Lion my computer has slowed considerably - how do i speed it up again?

I purchased Mountain Lion around a month and a half ago. Since then, my computer has slowed considerably--like i could go get a cup of coffee while the page loads like old-school. Does anyone out there have any suggestions how to fix this?

How much RAM? How much available disk space?
Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.

  • ATV STREAMING REALLY SLOW AFTER 2.3.1 update

Since applying the new update, when I start to stream to watch a movie it takes at least 20 seconds for the blue progress bar appear. My Apple TV is wired to my Airport Extreme that has a Hard drive connected with all the media.
My Macbook then connects wirelessIy to the AES Basestation that controls iTunes etc. I used to get the blue progress bar appear instantly, throughput of about 4MB, now according to the activity monitor through put has dropped to about 200KB.
Have done the resets, etc, my ATV is not hacked either. Have also changed the network cable that connects to the AES. Copying data from the drive to the Macbook wirelessly throughput remains the same as it was, about 4MB/sec. However, when I view a movie trailer the progress bar appears instantly.
Anyone else got the same and if you fixed it what did you do?

Well guess what, seems there is a bug in the Airport Extreme Firmware 7.4.1 update just released. I believe I have confirmed this as I rolled back my Airport to 7.3.1 and the streaming went back up to the 4MB/sec like it was before.
To confirm, I updated again to 7.4.1 and the stream rate slowed back to 200KB/sec making movies unwatchable.
I have reverted back to the 7.3.1 firmware and it's now back to streaming 4MB/sec with the progress appearing instantly. My poor Airport, taken such a beating going back and forth with updates!
This definitely confirms a bug in the 7.4.1 firmware update. I found this on another thread to get you back to 7.3.1 if you are having the same issue I was. If any Apple moderators are viewing this please check the firmware patch for 7.4.1, something affects streaming from networked discs to ATV:
To revert back in Airport Utility:
    1) Hold down the option key(Mac), the Control key for Windows at the same time clicking on 'Check for updates' in the Airport Utility file menu.
This will open a popup window with the previous versions, select the Airport Extreme Firmware 7.3.1 update and click download. Make sure you select the right firmware for your Airport model.
    2) After the download is done, from 'Base station' file menu drop down select 'Upload Firmware', you will get a choice to download different firmware updates, select 7.3.1.

  • Netflix streaming issues on Macbook?

2-month old macbook, OS X.  just signed up for netflix streaming.  downloaded msft silverlight software.  rebooted.  netflix wont load movie further than 4%.
netflix call center - "try again later we're too busy" and hangs up.  seriously.
tried on both safari (5.0.4) and chrome (11.0.696.71)
It's not an internet connectivity or speed issue, I stream video all the time and it is fast and good quality.

  • Broadband speed very slow (again)

My broadband speed has been very slow for the past week or so, very hard to stream videos, download etc. Broadband download speed is normally around 7-8mbps mark and has been around 1-2 or lower this past week.
    Speed test..
ADSL stats (I think a housemate must have reset the router 2 days ago)..
There are no problems reported at my local exchange.
I already had this same problem in January. It was fixed for a while but now it is really slow again.. https://community.bt.com/t5/ADSL-Copper-Broadband-Speed/Speed-way-way-down-on-normal/td-p/1149716

this is not the same as last time.. last time your speed was down at about 2mb wheras this time you have 11mb connection.
can you run btspeedtester again with wired connection and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results

  • Mac Pro has slowed to a crawl - Please Help Me!

    Hello,
For some time now my Wireless or Wired Internet connection using my Mac Pro has slowed to almost nothing. For example, This page took 5 mins to load and now Internet use has become unusable.
I feel its my Mac Pro because all other Apple Computer run very fast wirelessly. I have (2) New iMac's (1) Apple TV and (1) Apple iPhone. All stream and surf the Internet blazingly fast.
My Mac Pro is constantly being redirected to other sites (mostly **** related) and a huge amount of Pop ups (even though pop ads are disabled in Safari). All Internet browsers perform the same on my Mac Pro or ANYTHING Internet related including WoW, Software updates or even iTunes Music Down loads.
I really feel that in some way (which is shocking) I am infected with "something" that is making my computer crawl on the Internet. Redirection of websites is just now very aggravating.
I am looking at the (2) Original Disks that came inside the Mac Pro Box. I'm seriously considering wiping my system clean and starting from scratch.
I currently hold NOTHING on my Factory 320GB HD other than programs.
I have installed (2) 1TB drives and created a RAID slice thus creating a single HD icon on my desktop that reads 1.8TB. Thats is where all my Music, Photos, and Movies reside.
    My question is....
When I wipe my system will that RAID be broken? Will I lose everything on those 2 drives or will using the restore CD's leave all that information in tact?
Please let me know before I proceed.
    Thank you for your time.
    John

Your RAID won't be touched. But back it up today if you haven't yet!
I use Firefox for security with noscript and some other filters, but I also hardened the router firewall to manually block services, ports and add rules - both incoming and outgoing.
You might want to look at LittleSnitch or NetBarrier and do some logging.
I've seen/heard where older routers and modems were fine, but not with Mac Pro or with Intel Macs in general and needed to be replaced or firmware updated. Problems with the latest updates for Airport have been seen by some, and worth checking into - on forums, news sites or hit google.
And of course check what processes are getting loaded and run; manually delete caches, history, metadata, even the bookmarks cache.
    ~/Library/Caches/Metadata
There are issues with fake Flash updates; normal sites (like CNN) suffering from SQL-injection. Best to run with javascript off for now.
Might want to look into ClamXav and other malware protection. But I would switch and see how Firefox and Opera behave. And turn off java, script, and plug-ins while you consider your options and try to find out why.

  • My mid 2011 MacBook Air has slowed down significantly overnight?

Last night my MacBook Air was working fine.
When I went to use it this morning, it has slowed down significantly. It takes awhile for it to respond to trackpad movement or the keyboard. Opening finder is delayed now, opening any app is delayed now. Booting it back up takes extra long now, probably around a minute compared to thirty seconds before.
I've tried an SMC reset, repairing the disk and repairing disk permissions.
From what I can see, the hardware doesn't appear to be failing, but I could be wrong.
Can anyone help me out? What could possibly be going on with my MacBook? How did this happen overnight?

Your MacBook Air's memory is not upgradable, and as you already determined unused storage capacity is not a relevant factor.
There are many reasons a Mac may be performing slower than expected.
Back up your documents and everything else important to you before proceeding.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
To identify potential hardware problems: Apple Hardware Test.

  • My FIOS has slowed to a snails crawl.

I have a wired (to FIOS) PC and a wireless (router), brand new, Mac. Over the last few weeks my internet speed on both has intermittently slowed considerably. I've reset my router a couple of times and that seemed to temporarily correct the problem. I spent some time with a Verizon rep the other day and after he had me run Speedtest.com, he said he "changed some settings" to increase my speed. It seemingly worked, but within a day, my computers are slow again. Is there something going on with Verizon? Could my router be the problem? Anybody have any thoughts?

if a reset of the router is temporarily resolving the issue... then yeah... it is probably the router
