Netflix streaming issues on Macbook?

2-month old macbook, OS X.  just signed up for netflix streaming.  downloaded msft silverlight software.  rebooted.  netflix wont load movie further than 4%.
netflix call center - "try again later we're too busy" and hangs up.  seriously.
tried on both safari (5.0.4) and chrome (11.0.696.71)
It's not an internet connectivity or speed issue, I stream video all the time and it is fast and good quality.
help?

Having the same issue. Tried everything and nothing has changed. :[

Setup: Actiontec Rev I Router: 50 foot Cat5 cable to Roku XDS device. Speed test always indicates 50MBS download speed.
Netflix streaming has always worked but quality level varies and rebuffering and downgrading usually occurs. I'm often able to start out with 4 dots (highest streaming rate and quality) but often rebuffer and downgrade to 3 or 2 dots. With Roku set to debug, the stream speed is dropping when this occurs.
Amazon seems fine or, at least, much better.
I assigned the Static DNS address recommended by Roku. No help.
    Any ideas?

If you're have issues this evening, it's probably due to reasons like below. I'm impressed with how high the latency is at the last ALTER.NET hop given that it's within Verizon's network.

  • Apple TV Netflix streaming issues

    July 9, 2014
This is a comment for those having problems with Netflix
    I have AppleTV and Netflix.
Issue 1: After recent Apple automatic update I received error message for two days. Could not access programming.
I called Netflix support. First person I talked to told me to contact my WiFi service provider. Knowing how my service provider (Cox) operates, I didn't bother.
Next day I called back to Netflix, this time I got the right person. Gave me couple instructions, five minutes later, everything working. I did have to re-register my PW but the support person made it easy.
Issue 2: I don't need captions but wife does. Always had problem with captions out of sync or fade away -- useless. Recently I connected cable from router to ethernet connection on AppleTV. Works perfect. No problem. I have Cox tier 2 WiFi which is 5Mbps. Works fine. No need to pay higher cost for higher tiers.

    There is good news coming!
Technology experts are working on a movie storage system where YOU have physical possession of the movie.
This system stores the movie digitally on an optical disk system that will not be dependent upon a congested, complicated, and fragile network.  Because all of the data is stored only a few feet from your television, all the bottlenecks are removed.  Performance and reliability are virtually flawless.
Further, the system will not utilize any form of security codes, authentications, or passwords. Once the optical disc is purchased it can be moved around freely at will, and can even be lent or given to friends and neighbors with zero hassles.
And if you don't like the movie, you can sell it for close to your purchase price!

  • Netflix streaming issues

Hello everybody, I have changed the DSN on my apple TV to 8.8.8.8 and I am still having issues streaming Netflix shows. Here's what happens:
    1) I chose the episode of Prison break that I want to watch
    2) It takes 5-10 minutes of watching the circle of life or(death?) turn and turn and yes...turn before the episode begins.
    3) Finally I'm about 4-8 seconds into the episode and getting super comfortable when all of the sudden, the episode just quits and puts me back into the netflix/prison break lobby.
    4) After this happens, I restart the episode from the beginning and skip past the first 20 seconds of the episode. Fortunately this works 1/3 of the time!!!
I must say that I LOVE apple products and I will continue to be an apple lover, however, I am annoyed with the netflix aspect of the apple TV. I also dislike the photo streaming because that takes a bit too long, but I'm not concerned with that right now. Please let me know if you have found a solution to this.
    Peace out.

I have found a solution to the apple tv / netflix problem. You will need to uplug the power cable and the hdmi from the back of the atv2 unit. Then locate a cinder block or large block of wood, saftey glasses and a 2-3 pound sledge hammer.......
I wish someone would find a solution to this problem of netflix pausing every two minutes. I want to throw the atv2 unit like a discus down our street sometimes. We are an all apple family and love, rant and rave about our mac book , imacs ,ipads and iphones. I think apple needs to try a little harder to help on this one!!!!

  • Netflix Streaming Issue on ISA550

    A newbie here, sorry,
Netflix doesnt stream on android or apple tablets, blu-ray players or Apple TV, but does stream on computers.  is there a port to open or something?
Netflix  support is a joke.  they say it doesnt stream over any ports, it streams over the internet..... and my speed needs to be at least API1.5... really??
    Thanks in advance

I'm not in front of an ISA at this point, but as soon as I am I'll respond on the logging question.
In the interim, I do have some questions. One thing to keep in mind is that with the vast differences in OS and apps, it's still very possible that laptops work and tablets don't and the issue is still in the network even though they're going over the same mediums.
Thanks for the detail on the current network. I have concerns that you may have double or possibly triple NAT/PAT'ing going on here. When you mentioned WAPs being plugged into your switch, are those WAPs handing out IPs or are they more like LWAPs just handing out IPs from the ISA?
What might be helpful here is if you can mask all the IPs for all the devices but still provide what is currently configured using public and private IPs. An example might be replacing 192.168.x.x with 10.1.x.x for private IPs and I like to use 1.1.1.1 and 2.2.2.1 for Public IPs. Using this kind of methodology, would you mind providing IP Address and subnet masks for each interface of each device (router, firewall, switch, WAP(s), PC, laptop, tablet, etc.)?

  • Netflix Streaming Issue Overseas

I have a new MacBook Pro with OS X Lion running. I recently converted to the world of Mac and can barely find my way around the computer to try and fix my current issue, which is:
When I try to play a video on Netflix it reaches 98% and then stops, saying it gas an error code N8156-6023. I am stationed overseas in Italy, and so I use the HMA! Pro VPN to get US websites. It works fine on my iPhone (using the VPN), so I think it's just a Mac issue. I've tried lots of suggestions, but none of them work and/or I simpy don't understand them... Can anyone help with a new-user-friendly set of instructions on this issue?

Try deleting this file, then restart Safari. I ran into a similar issue here in the US.

You didn't give many details about your system, but I am assuming that you have all of the software updates installed and that you are running a reasonably current version of Microsoft Silverlight that is required for Netflix. I believe the current version is 5.1...)  You can check your version here.

  • Video streaming issues with macbook pro

This is driving me crazy. When attempting to stream video, eg from youtube or netflix etc, the video will go along fine for some random amount of time and then start skipping and stuttering, both the sound and the picture. This can be cured at first by pausing and playing the video but eventually the audio gets a loud buzz and the only thing that fixes this is a restart. it's gotten to the point that I would have to restart 6 or 7 times to watch a movie. I noticed that when the audio gets to this quality that it effects all audio for the computer - alerts, itunes, everything. I don't think it's related to connection speed as I am on a T1 line and downloads are fast. Also - I have been getting more frequent kernel panics lately (about once a month). Any help? Thanks!

    For example:
According to this: http://www.cable-modem.net/broadbandarticles/comcastspeed.html T1 service providers offer 1.544 Mbps download and upload speeds and Comcast has long offered high-speed broadband connections with 6 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload speeds; but with the advent of DOCSIS 3.0 technology, Comcast cable modems can now access the Internet at wideband speeds as high as 50 Mbps at affordable prices.
You can see, download speed is not a big advantage of a T1 line.

  • Linksys WRT160Nv3 to Sony BDP-BX57 Netflix streaming issues

Everything is fine when the blu ray is wired to the router
When I set up on the wireless network, it loses connection or times out in the middle of the movie
says there is a connection error, then sometimes it won't let me connect.
is there a way to tweak the settings in the router.. i saw somewhere about changing the mtu to 1365?
    please help
already downloaded the version3 12/2010 firmware update for the router

Don't meddle with the MTU anymore since it works fine on wired. On the wireless tab of the setup page there should be a setting for the channel. Try switching to the other ones and see if it holds your connection. If not let us know so we can suggest more.

  • Apple TV started having streaming issues with Netflix

Several days ago my Apple TV is no longer providing consistent streaming throught Netflix. Before that, I had great streaming through all content for many months.
Issues, configuration and some actions already taken:
Video quality starts suffering, then some pauses/buffering begins.
I have tried the same Netflix account, content and network to trace the issue and found out through my Macbook Air and iPad and the streaming is excellent.
My Apple TV is connected to my ISP through an Ethernet cable at 200 Mbps (tested @ Speedtest.net)
I already restarted several times, and restored once my Apple TV.
Software is updated since it became available.
Yesterday, I found a post which recommended to manually setup my DNS to 008.008.008.008 which I did and worked great at that time, but todays problems are back with that fixed DNS and with Auto setup.
I hove someone here can help me with some further advice, or perhaps Apple very soon releases a fix. Seems that the latest update improved Airplay consistency to deliver both video and audio and not only video, but might have broken Netflix streaming.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'm having the exact same issue since the latest update. I thought it was my internet connection but it worked perfectly fine in my ipad and macbook air.
I also have 2 Apple TV's and the problem is in both of them. I really hope apple fixes this issue ASAP.
In the meantime, if you wanna watch your netflix content on your apple tv with good streaming and you have an iPad/iPhone with netflix on it. I recommend Airplay mirroring the iOS device and then opening netflix, it will airplay the video content and the iphone/ipad screen will function as a remote control with all the settings and stuff...its kinda cool...the only bad thing is that you can't turn off the iPad/iPhone screen or it will pause the movie.
i hope this works for you while apple fixes this issue.

  • Streaming issues MacBook Air -- Apple TV ?

    Hello everybody.
Does or did anyone of you eperience the same streaming issue with an macbook air mid 12 and an apple tv3?
Only streaming from this device, any other will work proper (such as iPhone4 , iPad 2, etc.).
    The issue is:
    - streaming aborted
    - after 30-45 mins of video streaming - video only
    - apple tv not reachable
    - apple tv has no internet connection / content, etc
    - macbook gets very hot in the top left corner (wifi module?)
    - no airplay, mirroring etc. works any more with the mentioned device
    - only restar of apple tv helps
Both devices are connected via the same WIFI/router. Network type (5GHz or what ever) is unknown due to the fact that I've forgotten my  router password. I thought this is where I am probably able to check some things... (I am soving my password stuff right now with my provider).
    so...any ideas?
forum search and google-it did not work (for me). open to any suggestions.
    many thanks in advance :-)

    Hey mathezmichal,
Congratulations on the purchase of your Apple TV.  The resources below will help you troubleshoot the issue you are having AirPlay, specifically streaming video from the MacBook Air.   Since YouTube is one of the channels on the Apple TV, I would suggest accessing the videos directly for that particular service.

  • Why is music streamed from my MacBook Pro to Apple TV via AirPlay choppy?

I'm trying to stream music from iTunes on my MacBook Pro to my new Apple TV via AirPlay, but the music is extremely choppy, cutting in and out. It's completely unlistenable. However, I can use AirPlay to stream from my Macbook Pro to my Pioneer VSX 1021 AirPlay enabled receiver with no issues. Additionally, I can stream from my iPhone or iPad to the Apple TV without these issues. Therefore it would appear wifi bandwidth is not the root cause. I'm stumped. Help!

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • Why would Lightroom video capabilities/iTunes import/Netflix streaming/Photoshop all stop working at once?

    Hi forum --
Several programs all stopped working at the same time and will only work (briefly) right after I've restarted my computer including:
    - iTunes audio cd importing
    - Lightroom video importing and playback
Netflix streaming (on both Safari and Chrome) won't work and Photoshop (CS4) won't open at all.
Videos work without a problem in: Quicktime, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and Bridge CS4 and CS6.  YouTube also works without a problem.
Maybe the problems are conincidence, but this seems like it is posisbly a software problem with my computer, not my programs.
I have tried reinstalling Ligthroom and resetting the preferences files but they don't help.
The only things that I can think of that happened is that I:
    1. downloaded my own videos from my own YouTube acocunt after my external hard drive failed and maybe there was a virus?
    2. I deleted some programs with "Clean My Mac 2" and maybe it deleted some crucial file someplace?
I am running a 2009 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.53 Ghz processor and 4 GB RAM and Mountain Lion (everything is up to date).
    Thank you for any suggestions!

I had problems with streaming until I changed the WiFi channel that I was using.  The original one conflicted with my neighbor.  After that, MOST of my streaming problems vanished.  Occasionally, a movie would pause for more buffering and I eventually ran an ethernet cable from the Apple TV to my Apple Extreme (to eliminate the Wifi).  I have not had a single problem since then (except to repair the drywall after running the ethernet from one floor to another).  :-)

  • Major streaming issue!

    Hey Guys,
I am having major streaming issues with my Macbook and Apple TV. Here is a detailed overview of my setup.
    Netgear 802.11G Router
    SSID off
    WEP 128 Bit hex key
    DHCP
    Wireless devices
    Powerbook G4
    Macbook
    Apple TV
    iPod Touch
    XP laptop
    Wired device
    XP desktop
All these devices are able to access the wireless network fine - and have no problem connecting to the internet.
Apple TV is running SW 2.0 - I don't know if the same issue would have occurred in SW 1.0 as I did the SW upgrade on it straight away (getting close to a system reset though)
I am able to see the Apple TV in iTunes 7.6 and have all the details of my Apple TV.
When I try to play any of "my movies" I sometimes get an error saying can't recognize file type or something along those lines - or it just gets stuck on a black screen with the buffering "spinning gear" winding till the Apple TV goes in to the screen saver.
I tried on many different resolutions but it did not fix the issue.
The same thing happens with TV Shows and Podcasts - haven't tried YouTube just yet.
I am able to play movie trailers though both standard definition and high definition.
Another thing to mention is the load up of the Apple TV is very jittering and stutters.
The thing that makes me wonder is I ran it on another Netgear G router network earlier today and everything went fine - and I was able to playback videos that I am not able to do now - which kind of makes me look at the network - but the fact that HD trailers load almost instantly and play fine makes me think perhaps Apple TV? The fact it doesn't load smoothly concerns me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just removed Apple TV from iTunes and cleared an connections in "Computer" tab of Apple TV and reset everything - still the same issue.
Apple TV loads very jittery and it doesn't load video files to playback - but it does playback music and movie trailers. I am guessing it has no problems with the trailers as that is not something that gets accessed via the Macbook. Really starting to think this could be a bandwidth issue know, just weird that it was all hunky dory on another G network! Besides all my laptops get full reception where the Apple TV is situated and I can't think of any interference in the position that it is in.
Any other ideas people - don't want to have to shell out for a base station just right now.

  • I get choppy video on netflix streaming online

how can i fix choppy video on netflix streaming online

What version Mini do you have?  How much RAM?
What is your internet connection and speed?
Not knowing that, first I would say insure that you have
the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight installed.  Next,
do you have any other apps running at the same time?
Which browser are you using?  Also, is this all the time
    or occasionallly?
I have a 2010 Mini (Mountain Lion installed) that I use as an
HTPC.  Most of the time, I have no real issues with the video
from Netflix.  There are occasions when video is pretty choopy.
However, I can view the same program at a later date and it plays
fine.  Sometimes the problem can be at the Netflix end or with the
    connection.
