Netflix Viewer and Ethernet Switch

Hello All,
I just bought the Roku Netflix Viewer. Friends told me all I needed to share my DSL connection was a simple Ethernet Switch. So I got a Unicom Micro-Switch/5 which is described as a 5 port 10/100Mbps fast ethernet switch w/ auto mdi/mdix.
I assumed this was the correct device, and that it was plug and play, but when I plug in the viewer, my iMac gets bumped off the internet.
Is this ethernet switch the right piece of hardware? If so, is mine dead out of the box, or is there a specific way to connect it / configure it (or my iMac) that is beyond me?
Or is there a more appropriate device I should get to share the connection?

I posted here hoping to get some help during the long July 4th holiday. I was given bad advice on the purchase of an ethernet switch. Turns out I needed a router. Here on the tech pages the distinctions are clear. But out in the world where the humans use English to communicate, the terms hub, switch, and router are often used interchangeably.

Ethernet Cable, Vision Box and Ethernet Switch

Can I use ethernet cable from HH 3 for additional broadband connections via a powered ethernet switch? This would mean that the Vision Box ethernet would also go through the switch, would it interfere with the multicast signals? Also vision eternet comes from port 4 on the hub, any problems with broadband? OR would I be safer just installing another cable all the way to the Hub - which in my case is some 15m!

What are the major differences between a Access Switch and Aggregation Switch w.r.t Carrier Ethernet domain?

In a Carrier Ethernet domain,Could someone please help me understand what's the basic difference between Access Switch and Aggregation Switch both in terms of s/w and h/w functionalities. MEF deals OAM,CFM, EVC provisioning only at the access edge switches. Do we need to repeat all these at the aggregation level? or is it just used for routing purpose? Do we have a separate Fault Management at the aggregation level?

Here's an easy way:
Pick the user that you want to eliminate (making sure that the remaining user has administrator privileges) and move all of the data that you want to keep into the Shared folder. Reboot or log out and login to the user you want to keep. Copy all the data from the Shared folder into your account - placing it neatly in folders (Documents, Music, Movies, etc.).
Once the data is moved, log into the account you want to delete just once more to make certain that you've grabbed all the data you want to keep. Log out and log back into your admin account and go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and delete the 'old' user.
That should do it.

Whenever I have a pdf document open, and then switch to another tab to view another webpage, the scrolling function on the touchpad will not work. This seems to be a glitch with Mozilla, according to Dell. How do I fix this?

When I open a pdf document (like an E-version of a newspaper) in Mozilla and then switch to another tab to view another webpage, I am unable to use the scrolling function on the touchpad. I have to use the up and down arrows to get other pages to scroll. When I close that pdf document, everything works fine. I talked with customer support with Dell, and he said it was probably a glitch with Mozilla. So I tried to do the same thing on IE, and there was no problem scrolling with the touchpad while a pdf document was open on another tab. I would like to get a fix for this so I don't have to keep closing open pdf documents in order to scroll with the touchpad while on other tabs. Thank you

Add a simple switch to PDF Reader to change between MY-VIEW and ORIGINAL-VIEW

I would like to open pdf file with my same default viewing preference *every single time* that I open a PDF file, regardless of what the original document creator set as the default view. It would be nice to have a SIMPLE switch between MY-VIEW and ORIGINAL-VIEW. It's very frustrating to have to keep switching my view preferences every time I open a new file with a different default.

Thank you Bernd, but that is only part of the solution. For example, I do set the Page Layout to 1-page-continuous. MOST of the time it keeps this setting, but some documents either override that setting, or perhaps it reverts back to a default (maybe with version upgrades?). The other part is that I always want the menu-bar and toolbar to show up. Some documents hide these when they open. I realize that I can hit [F8] and/or [F9] to toggle these, but there are additional settings. I also want to always have the selection tools available, etc. Bottom Line: I just want a collection of settings that I can call up with a single, simple shortcut or button, so I don't have to perform multiple steps just to get the tool back to my standard configuration whenever something changes it.

Switching between the Classic View and the Tree View in transaction FEBA

I would like to know how to switch between the Classic View and the Tree View on transaction FEBA for post processing of bank statements. I have a scenario where in the DEV client the transaction is calling up the Tree View and in my QA environment it calls up the Classic View, and I would like to know if there is a way to easily switch between the two views.

Tiny Hotmail - Accidentally switched to "PC view" and can't switch backnd any way to switch back

While reading Hotmail on my iPhone, I accidentally hit a button called "PC View," and my view changed to something that looks like my Hotmail on my laptop, but it's so tiny that it's illegible, and it isn't well organized for a mobile device. But I can't find any way to switch back to the other view. I have refreshed the window, closed it, and returned, and I've clicked on everything I can see, but nothing seems to work. I can't use my mail with this view. This is a stupid user error, I know, but there must be some way to recover. Can anyone help?

Update your Flash from Adobe's website. If that doesn't work, tell the webmaster they aren't using a portable version of Flash that is as compatible with as many browsers as possible.

Advice? Networking Airport Express, old iMac and ethernet converter/switch

Got an old iMac (266 mHz, OS 10.3.9, 384M RAM) I'm trying to get wireless and network with wife's laptop and (in a few weeks) a new MacBook. Internet is from a wireless provider (Clearwire.net) and its modem hooks into iMac's ethernet port. Works great.
Also have an Airport Express and I see two options here: Get an ethernet converter for the iMac or an ethernet switch that would connect to the Airport Express and the iMac (Clearwire modem, iMac and Airport Express are in same room, so wire connections not a problem).
The latter is cheaper (switch vs. converter), but would tie me down to that room. How much of a hassle would it be to network the iMac through the converter since it doesn't have an Airport card? Can I set up Airport Express through the Airport Assistant software in OS 10.3.9 on the iMac even though it doesn't (and can't) have a card?

All I can tell you is how I have my home network setup and hopefully that will give you some ideas. I have DSL at home which came with a DSL modem / Wireless router made by Westell. I have an eMac running 10.3.9 which I have an Airport Extreme card installed. I have my old "Grape" tray-loading iMac running OS9.2.2 for which I purchased an Ethernet-to-WiFi bridge device. And finally I have an ancient Windows ME running laptop on which I have a USB-to-WiFi device (I got it in a trade). All three of these I was able to setup and configure to access the internet via the DSL wireless router.
So to answer one of your questions, yes the Ethernet-to-WiFi bridges work fine, are OS independent, do not require drivers, and won't tie up your valuable USB port instead using the Ethernet port you likely are not using anyway.
However, the one thing I have not bothered to do is to share the computers with each other. In other words, all of them can connect to the internet but none of them are set up to see the others or share files. For what little sharing or file moving I need to do, I just use an USB Flash drive, which all three computers can see/use fine and transfer stuff that way if I need to.

Should Iplace my ethernet switch between cable modem and airport extreme?

I'm looking for the best placement of an ethernet switch in my home network.
Should I place it "between" my cable modem and my AEBS or connect it to the output from my AEBS?
The current placement is connected to one of the AEBS outputs.
I'm attempting to set up an old AE (802.11 a/g from 2004) with a different network name than my home network, that I'm trying to set up for a college dorm network and each time I plug the AE to the switch to confirm its functionality, my network gets a little confused.

This all depends on whether you have a simple modem.....or.....a modem/router or gateway combination device.
If you have a simple modem, you cannot place the switch between the modem and the AEBS. The reason for this is that the modem can only deliver one valid IP address and it will be a matter of chance as to which of the devices connected to the switch receives it. The other device connected to the switch will not be able to access the Internet.
If you have a modem/router or gateway type of device, you can place the switch after the modem/router and before the AEBS if you wish, although there is really no advantage to doing so unless this makes things easier for you in terms of hook up.
If none of this makes much sense at all to you, leave the switch in its current location connected to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS since that setup will work correctly no matter what type of "modem" that you might have.

Virgin cable modem to Ethernet Switch to 3 Macs and Time Capsule

So here's my headache...
I've got a Virgin Cable Modem which I am hoping to connect to a Time Capsule (so iPhone can share WiFi connection), a NetGear Ethernet Switch which connects by ethernet cables to a MacBook Pro, new iMac i7, G4 Cube (not such an issue), ancient PC (also not such an issue). Typing this, I have the modem connected to the switch, connected to my MacBook Pro. This part is perfect. I can connect the modem directly to the MacBook Pro and still as Father Jobs intended it.
ISSUES:
1. Time Capsule does not see any cables connected to it. Having performed all kinds of resets, swapping cables, connecting the modem directly and via the switch, it still doesn't like it. My guess is that the ports are buggered, even though the green lights on the back are on (are they supposed to stay on without cables in?). However, I can access the internal hard drive wirelessly from the MBP.
2. The iMac (brand new) will not recognise the modem, whether connected directly to the modem, or via the switch. It gives me a 169.254 IP address, however it will see the MBP on the network. Could it be that the ethernet port in the iMac is buggered also, yet how can it see the network?
3. Similar story with the G4 Cube. That gives me a 169. IP address.
4. The PC doesn't let me connect anymore also, where before the arrival of the Macs, it was happy to run directly through the modem.
Do I have a defective Time Capsule and iMac or is there something I'm missing...?

Hi. Yes, have used AU which had worked previously in my old home, but here it tells me that there is no cable connected in the WAN port (when there is). I can use the AU to access the internal HD wirelessly, but I cannot link to the internet through it with or without wires, since it believes nothing is connected.
I have checked the network and MBP, iMac and G4 Cube can all see each other via ethernet, yet only the MBP can automatically connect to the internet via DCHP be it directly connected to the modem, or connected via the switch. Inputting the settings manually just tells me it cannot connect.

I'd like to switch from full view and keep it. Also keep the color I've chosen.

Every time i open the Firefox browser it has changed to full view and the color I had chosen previously has changed back to blue. The option to change to the compact view has disappeared. What can I do to correct this? This is very annoying and I am considering not using this as my default browser. Please help!!! Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

If you have a program like GoodReader you can transfer the files over your wireless network. Also you will have the ability to view all types of files. You can transfer the files within iTunes if you have a program installed that can read it. Go into iTunes, attach your iPad, click on your iPad and then click Apps tab scroll down to the bottom to File Sharing, you will see a list of Apps on you iPad that you can transfer file to. Select an App and click the add button then select your PDF file.

Why does my spry accordian look good in live view and switch back to default in safari

i am new to dreamweaver and have started my first page-
step one inserted a picture as a background
step 2 inserted a spry accordian and have spent hours trying to configure it - my dreamweaver wont allow me to type any information in the design view so i worked out how to get around that in the code - so i put in the labels - changed the font
then i got rid of any color by adding the hex value #0.0 (transparent) in the spryaccordian.css page - which has worked really well in the live view ( and works in opera) but when i check it in safari it has reverted back to the default settings - it hasnt even kept the font settings
i would also like to put quite a lot of information in the content panels (pictures, subscriber list, links ect, essentially whole pages) is this possible
