Netflix watch instantly crashes all browsers

About a month ago Netflix started giving me problems while watching instantly. Audio wasn't syncing with video and it would skip and freeze. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Silverlight, but that didn't work. After corresponding via email with micrsoft silverlight support and a complete uninstall and reinstall of silverlight and testing it on other websites, we determined that silverlight is not the issue. I then tried Netflix support, which was terrible and of no help at all. Now Netflix crashes all browser (Safari, Firefox, & Chrome) upon loading. Netflix streaming works fine on all other computers in the house. I have all of the most recent updates of all browsers, I've tried repairing disk permissions and I'm running OS X 10.6.8 with all current software updates. I'm not sure what else to do. Please help.

Sound like a corrupt cache issue, the #12 OnyX routine here should clear it.

Netflix watch instantly issue

I recently read that netflix' watch instantly option can work on macs. I used a link for the silverlight "opt in" option. The website said "congragulations the new media player is enabled."
When I try to watch a movie though, it says my OS is not compatible. However, according to their Mac Requirements, I am.
I have an intel Macbook Pro, OSX 10.5.5, Firefox 3, and 2 gigs of ram.
These are the requirements on the netflix site:
* An Intel-based Mac with OS 10.4.8 or later
* Safari 3 or higher; or Firefox 2 or higher
* 1 GB RAM
Anyone have any suggestions?

My only other suggestion would be to try using Safari to watch something on Netflix. If neither browser works, I would suggest downloading the plugin directly from here:

If you click on the "Mac Runtime" link on the right, it will give you the disk image to install the plugin, so hopefully it will bypass the browser when installing. There might just be some issue with the browser thinking the plugin is there when it isn't, or the plugin may be corrupt.
Other than that I am at a loss. I remember having this issue a while back with Firefox and ABC's web player, and I don't recall figuring it out, other than going back to Safari.

Netflix Watch Instantly

I was wondering if anyone's used Netflix Watch Instantly on their new MBP? If so, how is the video? While it looks fantastic on mine if there's no camera movement (literally, almost DVD quality (with DSL Broadband)), when the image moves, I get, well, it's not choppy, per se, but horizontal lines, kind of like when you hold the scroll bar and scroll down in Safari. Anyone else notice this?
Note: I wonder if it's a Silverlight issue (which Netflix is using), since I don't seem to notice this problem on Hulu, which uses Flash (I think)...

Check out the thread above. I tried tellboy's tip and the tearing was gone (when I used Firefox, of course). Apparently, there is no way to implement the same fix in Safari, as they do not allow access to that code.
But, I think we have zeroed in on the problem. It's this Coalesced Updates thing not working well with certain GPUs.

1: Java (not needed much at all and highly advised to be turned off in Safari/Firefox preferences due to it's vulnerability)
2: Javascript (if off, needs to be turned on in Safari/Firefox preferences as it's used A LOT)
Note: If your using a NoScript type blocker, then you need to whitelist the site. Or drag a Temp Allow All button to Firefox's Toolbar.
3: Silverlight plug-in (needed for watching Netflix content, it's from Microsoft)
4: Flash (needed for watching a lot of web based content, but requires constant checks to make sure it's current as they have a lot of security issues)

Uploading pdf, jpg or png crashes ALL browsers, HELP!

Trying to upload pdfs to my work website has proved impossible without crashing the browser. This is killing me, my company is desperate for this to be resolved.
So far I have used Safari, Firefox, Camino and Opera to try to isolate the problem. ALL browsers crash when trying to upload.
It works flawlessly on my G5 Quad running 10.5.8... but my MacBook Pro — used all the time off-site — is currently a $3,000 doorstop right now.
My job is working online. Without this basic functionality I am totally screwed.
How can I downgrade to 10.5 anyone?

I am having the same problem on my iMac running OS 10.6.1: browsers (particularly, Safari) crash when trying to upload photos...several apps (Adobe CS3 apps, MS Office apps, and many more) crashing when trying to save a document or image.
VERY ANNOYING.
I did some troubleshooting / tests with the help of an apple care specialist:
1)booting in safe mode and trying to upload a photo: Safari crashed.
2)same but with a different user account: problem did not occur.
3)verifying permissions resulted in a thread of some 20-30 adobe flash warnings, but repairing them did not solve the problem.
4)genius at the store looked at the crashes and suggested deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist and if that does not work do a clean install of the OS.

Quicktime update 7.15 crashes all browsers when loading streaming players

Right after I've installed the update, all browsers (Firefox, Safari, Omniweb) will crash when trying to load a page with streaming content. I've tried unchecking all streaming content from the MIME settings in Quicktime preferences but to no avail. Anyone else having similar issues? Any fixes? How can I uninstall 7.15?

File Attachments crash ALL browsers after 10.9.3 update.

This may be related to the 'drag & drop' issue, but is different.
If I attempt to attach a file to Gmail, Yahoo, Mail.com via drag & drop OR clicking the 'Attach' button, whatever browser I am using will freeze. I must force quit the browser AND Finder to get things back in order. After forcing quit on the browser and Finder the 'select file' Finder window partially remain on the screen for en extended period. I have recreated this in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. I have tried multiple websites.
Things I have tried:
- verify & repair disk permissions
- verify & repair disk
- reboot
- Safari, Chrome, Firefox
- Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Mail.com

My housemate has exactly the same problem. The problem only occurs on her user account (even in safe mode). It doesn't occur on any other newly created accounts. I've tried repairing all disk permissions, too. I also tried uninstalling/reinstalling Flash in case it was related to that. Finally, I've tried rebuilding the user account (this method). Nothing worked.
Interestingly, for her mac (running Mavericks), dragging and dropping files into the webpage on outlook.com works fine. It's only when the browse finder window pops up that the crash occurs. This is the same across all browsers.
There seems to be extremely little out there on the net about this, so I'm guessing that it's very rare - which will unfortunatley make it hard to diagnose and fix. So frustrating!

Netflix crashes my Firefox 3.6.16 and Safari 4.1.3 once I get to the black screen with the circles. Re-botted and got the same trouble.

So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs and does work with Safari 4/5. The solution is to download and install the latest version of Flip4Mac, which now includes a Silverlight component:

Trying to do netflix watch instantly movies and recieving error the silverlight plugin has crashed but I have already updated everything what do I do? I am on a dell laptop with windows 7 intel pentium inside.

Someone recently noted a problem staying logged on the Huffington Post since it became connected with AOL. The workaround for that is to change your connection setting here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network
Click the "Settings" button and choose either "No Proxy" or "Use System Settings" option, and OK the change.
Not sure whether Washington Post could be affected by that same setting.
In reviewing your extensions, I'm puzzled that you have both DoNotTrackMe and SavvyConnect. The first one seems to aggressively block certain communications with websites (potentially affecting functionality) while the second one seems to report on your browsing habits (they better pay well is all I can say). Have you tried disabling both of those to see whether that has any effect?

Flash catcher add-on is crashing all browsers

I added on your flash cache recorder, and firefox crashed. I don't think it was added, but since then the memory keeps loading up from 25 down to 5 gb. Then I get a notice to close all programs because of low memory. And immedeately, all my browsers crash. I have restored six times, and it lasts about a day. I have cleared all caches, and ran security essentials and super antispyware each time with no results. I beleive i need to remove traces of the add-on.

When viewing full screen video in netflix watch instantly, the picture freezes while the audio continues streaming

When watching full screen video in firefox the picture freezes and the audio continues streaming. I had at first thought this was limited to netflix but now see the same problem when viewing flash video sites. Once the picture freezes the computer has to be rebooted. This only happens in firefox. Explorer streams perfectly in fullscreen. The problem began after updating to firefox 3.6 as I had no problems prior to that.

For some reason the plugin container is causing some wierd stuff. I didn't know you could have more than one instance of task manager open. while this bug occurred, I had 15 task managers open. So somehow this plugin container is doing soemthing funky with the windows system. I'm the same poster as the last 2 post

Silverlight crashing, all browsers

My mac pro hung this morning after an app apparently exhausted all memory. After rebooting, Silverlight now crashes on startup in any browser.
I have removed Silverlight and reinstalled, including removing just about every trace I could find and reinstalling and it crashes.
However, it will run under these two conditions:
- reboot, log in under different user and launch browser, load page with Silverlight content
- reboot in safe mode, log in as me, launch browser, load page with Silverlight content
So, there is some combination of something loaded at boot interacting with something in my account that results in Silverlight crashing. But I have not been able to isolate it.
I restored a copy of ~/Library from yesterday, thinking some file in ~/Library was corrupted when my computer hung, but that did not fix the problem.
I am stumped. Any ideas?

Ok, further testing seems to have revealed the apparent culprit. Disabling Google Drive, rebooting, Silverlight works. I have no idea what interaction might have been happening which lead to Google Drive having an impact on Silverlight....

Flash Player Crashes All Browsers

I am uning Dell Inspiron 1545 with windows 7. Yesterday everything was fine, but today when I go to any site or game that uses Flash, my browsers become unresponsive and crash. I have tried Google Chrome(13.0.782.220) and IE. In google chrome i get the message that flash player has crashed and then I have to restart my laptop to fix it. I have tried updating flash(I am using the current version), I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash, virus and maleware scans, clearing caches and nothing has helped.

I'd also recommend installing the Flash Player 11 rc release for Internet Explorer and see if that helps resolve the problem.

Divx web player keeps crashing all browsers; IE, Firefox, Google Chrome.

The Divx web player stopped working for me a while back. I run Microsoft XP HE SP3 on a Toshiba Satellite M55-S139 1.87 GB RAM 1.60 GHz Proc.
I've tried installing and uninstalling the browsers. I've tried updating/downgrading versions of divx. I've even done some registry edits a while back that seemed to work once I restarted the computer and tried it once but then after a moment of playing it crashed again.
Has anyone had this ongoing issue with divx web player like I have? The regular divx player and vlc can play divx but when I attempt to stream divx formated files from any site I get a browser crashing occurance every time for every browser. It always appears to be a certain dll issue in the send error report; most of the time to msvcr80.dll.
Let me know any additional info you may need to solve this.

I have the same issue since updating to Lion / Safari 5.1!
The plugin worked fine before in 32-bit Mode.
There's nothing on the internet on this issue altough it seems this problem occurs on any Lion machine. I have encountered the same problem on a new MacBookAir that came with Lion preinstalled. So I'm guessing it has nothing to do with updating from Snow Leopard to Lion.
Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Flash Crashing All Browsers

Hi
I recently started having issues in Firefox when I browsed pages with Flash. Firefox would freeze up, become non-responsive, and crash. At first rebooting my computer seemed to get rid of the issue, but it would come back the next day. I updated both Firefox (v. 3.6) and Flash (v. 10), but the problem just became a constant, not even restarting fixed the issue.
At first I thought it was an issue with Firefox and tried to use Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, but when I loaded webpages with Flash, these browers crashed too.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash and the browsers multiple times in multiple ways with no success. My computer (a Dell running Windows 7 that's a little over a year old) is free of any viruses, so I'm fairly sure Flash is the problem. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate them, I'm a college student a large portion of my coursework this semester sadly depends on Youtube!

Does it also crash when you go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ? If not, right-click on the Flash object, Settings, then disable Hardware Acceleration.
Let us know if the crashes still occur after this.
