Netflix watch instantly issue

I recently read that netflix' watch instantly option can work on macs. I used a link for the silverlight "opt in" option. The website said "congragulations the new media player is enabled."
When I try to watch a movie though, it says my OS is not compatible. However, according to their Mac Requirements, I am.
I have an intel Macbook Pro, OSX 10.5.5, Firefox 3, and 2 gigs of ram.
These are the requirements on the netflix site:
* An Intel-based Mac with OS 10.4.8 or later
* Safari 3 or higher; or Firefox 2 or higher
* 1 GB RAM
Anyone have any suggestions?

My only other suggestion would be to try using Safari to watch something on Netflix. If neither browser works, I would suggest downloading the plugin directly from here:
http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
If you click on the "Mac Runtime" link on the right, it will give you the disk image to install the plugin, so hopefully it will bypass the browser when installing. There might just be some issue with the browser thinking the plugin is there when it isn't, or the plugin may be corrupt.
Other than that I am at a loss. I remember having this issue a while back with Firefox and ABC's web player, and I don't recall figuring it out, other than going back to Safari.

  • Netflix Watch Instantly

I was wondering if anyone's used Netflix Watch Instantly on their new MBP? If so, how is the video? While it looks fantastic on mine if there's no camera movement (literally, almost DVD quality (with DSL Broadband)), when the image moves, I get, well, it's not choppy, per se, but horizontal lines, kind of like when you hold the scroll bar and scroll down in Safari. Anyone else notice this?
Note: I wonder if it's a Silverlight issue (which Netflix is using), since I don't seem to notice this problem on Hulu, which uses Flash (I think)...

    The investigation continues...
So, I found this: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8613233#8613233 on a different thread. I've been following this "scrolling distortion" thread as well, because I thought that the problem with that and the tearing in Netflix might be related. Well, it seems they are. It also seems that this is an issue caused by Apple, and not necessarily Nvidia. The culprit?...
    CGDisableCoalescedUpdates
Check out the thread above. I tried tellboy's tip and the tearing was gone (when I used Firefox, of course). Apparently, there is no way to implement the same fix in Safari, as they do not allow access to that code.
But, I think we have zeroed in on the problem. It's this Coalesced Updates thing not working well with certain GPUs.

  • How do I access Java on my Mac Pro so that I can make sure it's working so I can view Netflix "watch instantly"?

How do I access Java on my Mac Pro so that I can make sure it's working so that we can view "watch instantly" on Netflix?

    There are various browser scripts
1: Java (not needed much at all and highly advised to be turned off in Safari/Firefox preferences due to it's vulnerability)
2: Javascript (if off, needs to be turned on in Safari/Firefox preferences as it's used A LOT)
Note:  If your using a NoScript type blocker, then you need to whitelist the site. Or drag a Temp Allow All button to Firefox's Toolbar.
3: Silverlight plug-in (needed for watching Netflix content, it's from Microsoft)
4: Flash (needed for watching a lot of web based content, but requires constant checks to make sure it's current as they have a lot of security issues)
Check your status here, works on all web browsers

  • Netflix watch instantly crashes all browsers

About a month ago Netflix started giving me problems while watching instantly. Audio wasn't syncing with video and it would skip and freeze. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Silverlight, but that didn't work. After corresponding via email with micrsoft silverlight support and a complete uninstall and reinstall of silverlight and testing it on other websites, we determined that silverlight is not the issue. I then tried Netflix support, which was terrible and of no help at all. Now Netflix crashes all browser (Safari, Firefox, & Chrome) upon loading. Netflix streaming works fine on all other computers in the house. I have all of the most recent updates of all browsers, I've tried repairing disk permissions and I'm running OS X 10.6.8 with all current software updates. I'm not sure what else to do. Please help.

Sound like a corrupt cache issue, the #12 OnyX routine here should clear it.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Do some of the other steps too just to check things out, even #16 or #18 if necessary to isolate the issue if the above steps don't resolve it.

  • When viewing full screen video in netflix watch instantly, the picture freezes while the audio continues streaming

When watching full screen video in firefox the picture freezes and the audio continues streaming. I had at first thought this was limited to netflix but now see the same problem when viewing flash video sites. Once the picture freezes the computer has to be rebooted. This only happens in firefox. Explorer streams perfectly in fullscreen. The problem began after updating to firefox 3.6 as I had no problems prior to that.

For some reason the plugin container is causing some wierd stuff. I didn't know you could have more than one instance of task manager open. while this bug occurred, I had 15 task managers open. So somehow this plugin container is doing soemthing funky with the windows system. I'm the same poster as the last 2 post
    Hope this helps the troubleshooting.

There is nothing more to say

Someone recently noted a problem staying logged on the Huffington Post since it became connected with AOL. The workaround for that is to change your connection setting here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network
Click the "Settings" button and choose either "No Proxy" or "Use System Settings" option, and OK the change.
Not sure whether Washington Post could be affected by that same setting.
In reviewing your extensions, I'm puzzled that you have both DoNotTrackMe and SavvyConnect. The first one seems to aggressively block certain communications with websites (potentially affecting functionality) while the second one seems to report on your browsing habits (they better pay well is all I can say). Have you tried disabling both of those to see whether that has any effect?

  • How do I get Netflix to work again?  It keeps freezing up on watch instantly.

My Netflix watch instantly was working beautifully On my iPad2 but then started to freeze up. Is there a fix for this?  I am also having problems streaming videos from TV apps like ABC and CNN. Thanks to whoever can help me fix this.

When you said -- ''I can't even use the Windows Run to pull up the profiles.'' -- did you try to start up in the Profile Manager to create a new profile?
    Start > Search box > firefox.exe /ProfileManager {ENTER}
If you can create a new profile, you could migrate data from your last active profile. See [https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile Recovering important data from an old profile].
If Firefox's program files seem to be damaged, you can reinstall over your existing setup without uninstalling first. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop

  • Netflix crashes all browsers on Watch Instantly launch

Netflix crashes my Firefox 3.6.16 and Safari 4.1.3 once I get to the black screen with the circles. Re-botted and got the same trouble.
Netflix support line was worthless; said it must be a Mac problem. Thanks for nada.

So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs and does work with Safari 4/5. The solution is to download and install the latest version of Flip4Mac, which now includes a Silverlight component:
    http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.htm
But the latest news is that Microsoft will probably abandon Silverlight in favour of HTML5:

  • ATV (3rd Gen 1080p) + Netflix website syncing issues?

    Hey there!
I recently bought and started using a 1080p Apple TV. One of its main uses is going to be watching things such as Netflix. As great as the quality is and everything, even after watching something beginning to end (credits too), the netflix website doesnt register that I have just finished watching said movie or tv show. It will display in the top right corner under "Recently Watched" but it will have "Resume" and then "0m of ....." Now this is really making a mess of my instant watching activity (not that its a HUGE problem) but does anybody know why it does this, and why it doesn't seem to sync properly? It syncs fine from everything else such as Computer / xbox 360, just not the apple tv.
Iv only seen a couple of other people with this same issue and it seems there is yet to be a solution / answer.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Donnie,
Thank you for providing so much information about what is going on with your Apple TV.  You have definitely taken some really good steps to isolate the issue.  I recommend reviewing the full article listed below, but step 5 specifically stands out to me for the situation you're experiencing:
    5. Check Firewall Settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.
In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.
If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.
For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu >System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
    Block all incoming connections
    Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
You can find the full article here:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • When in Netflix watching a movie it keeps throwing me back saying Netflix is not available, I need help

in apple TV ,when watching a movie , everything is wonderful for about 1/2 hour, then it suddenly quits saying Netflix is not available . However it is available because I can go right back in and return to the movie only to get bounced again.

Netflix claims they are aware of the issue and that the problem was on Apple's end.  I recieived the standard, "we're working with Apple to resolve this issue," answer.

  • Stream Netflix to TV issue

I used the Apple composite AV cable to play my iTunes movies from iPad 2 to my TV; it worked just fine. But now I can't get the video to show up when I try to watch Netflix videos. I only hear the audio and the video just plays on the iPad rather than the TV. Any solutions?

I am having *the exact same issue* with the first movie I rented late last night. My Apple TV 2 is set up and working fine with my iTunes library and wifi network in every respect except this one. The money has been taken from my account and I have no way of watching the movie as every time I push to watch it it says "Your Apple TV is not authorized to play this content"! How can this be given that my itunes account details have been entered on the system and allowed me to 'successfully' rent and be charged for the movie in the first place? 20 hours and counting before the money has been wasted, although I have requested a refund through the problem reporting tool on my account!!
I too have gone through the forums and tried everything with no luck. I even contacted apple care support who kept me online for 30min, resetting and restoring etc... only to tell me that it might be an issue my TV!! Nonsense, otherwise surely it wouldn't work at all.
I hope someone from Apple is monitoring this thread and that a proper solution will be given in due course. At the moment, I don't want to risk renting any more movies until I know that my machine will be authorized for the purchases I have made.

  • Virtual Box Lovefilm instant Issues.

    Hi guys,
Got a problem with lovefilm instant. I have win xp sp3 running in virtualbox. Guest additions (without direct3d) and Wine D3D are installed I also have full video memory and just over 500MB of base memory installed with 2d and 3d acceleration on. The problem is lovefilm instant starts to load a movie but a popup appears saying title unavailable and im unable to watch it.
The weird thing is Netflix player works and only the film "RED" works on lovefilm instant :S Ive tried loads of titles new and old HD and SD but nothing else plays.
Just wondering if anyone has got instant to work or if there is a fix of some sort.

  • Using VMWare Fusion and Vista for NetFlix Watch Now

Hi, I have installed Fusion and Vista in order to use NetFlix's Watch Now feature on my MBA. The installation was easy and Vista seems to be working fine. However, I can't get the Watch Now movie going. The film will start (after NetFlix determines my internet speed, etc.) and alternate between play and pause. Has anyone used this combination with success? Would a downgrade to XP work better? Or I should just use Boot Camp? Thanks.

I've used WinXP with Fusion on a MacMini and it was fine (but faster in BootCamp). I'm currently running Vista Business on a MacBook Pro in Parallels and while it isn't slow, it certainly is slower than in BootCamp. I expect Fusion would run Vista a bit faster - Fusion does tend to be a bit faster than Parallels but Parallels seems to get along better than Fusion with one of the applications I'm using.
There are advantages to BootCamp and BC isn't incompatible with virtualization. I suggest that you go ahead and install Vista in BootCamp. If you haven't already bought Fusion, download the demo and see how it runs using the BootCamp installation and compare that to BootCamp itself. Then decide.

  • Netflix on Mexico issue

Netflix has just became available in Mexico, how can i make it available on my Apple TV 2?
I have the most recent firmware version, tho i can't see it anywhere can you guys help me with this issue?

I wait that Apple update as soon as possible the current AppleTV 2 firmware (iOS) for make NETFLIX MEXICO account works with a iTunes Store MEXICO account.
Since September 12th, 2011 Netflix arrived in Mexico and I can only see the content from a PS3 from Mexico.
The only way right know from Mexico is getting a iTunes Store US account and get it from the AppleTV 2, this enable the Netflix connection in the AppleTV 2, and maybe with the login and password of the Netflix Mexico account can work, but is so annoying and can't access the iTunes Mexico account with this way.
We need the update as soon as possible from Apple.

  • Weird Distiller/ Watched folder issue

I have encountered an issue in Acrobat Distiller that has me puzzled.
If I drop a .ps file directly into Distiller, it distills and makes a good PDF file. If I put that same file in my watched folder, it fails every time with the following error:
    Error in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
    /CheckCompliance out of range
I am not using PDFX4 as my settings file–I am using one of the defaults form Adobe: High Quality Print.
I can literally take the file that fails from the out folder after failing and drop it in the Distiller window and it distills perfectly. The watched folder is on the Desktop of an Intel iMac, not on a network. Both the OS and all Adobe Creative Suite apps are running all of the latest updates.
    MacOS X 10.5.8
    Acrobat Distiller 9.2.0
The Mac has been restarted, prefs trashed, the watched folder recreated, etc…
    Any ideas?

    It's a bug in Distiller.
I entered the entire term in Google:
    Error in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
    /CheckCompliance out of range
and found a forum with an excellent discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/300660
Darn it. Three hours lost, a good part of it on Adobe.com looking for a Distiller update (none) or trial (not for Macs). Glad I didn't waste time trying to uninstall and reinstall Distiller, which apparently doesn't delete prefs and other system files.
