Netflix won't stream in HD in Mavericks, but will in Parallels

When I try to watch Lost in Netflix in my Mac OS X Mavericks, the HD icon doesn't appear. But when I log in in Parallels and see the same chapter, the icon appears. I used the keyboard shortcut (ctrl+shift+alt+S) to force HD in both, and the max rate that Safari can stream is 1750. But in Windows in Parallels, it can stream at 3000. Is there a way to fix this? I also tried to use Chrome and Firefox instead of Safari, but got the same result. That's why I think it's a Mavericks problem.
I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012, Safari 7.0.5 and Mavericks 10.9.4. In Parallels I use Windows 7 Professional SP1 and Internet Explorer 64 bits. Both with Microsoft Silverlight 5.1 installed, HTML5 activated.

This is the problem I am having with my Brand new MB Pro Retina 13' with 10.9. Closed browser. Deleted silverlite, emptyed trash, reinstalled sillverlite: Works for a while then Same problem

Netflix won't stream video

I just set up a new Apple TV unit and can't get netflix to stream. My account is active and I can sign in and see up to date viewing history. It just won't stream when I press play, it will just show the circular shape made up of radial lines moving and this last time "an error occurred loading this content." Message shows up... This sounds like an international issue? Although I can not see why? I brought my phone in Australia and operating it in Indonesia, I have the same issues.... Otherwise Siri works fine, even texting (SMS) to local numbers siri works well, but dialing local number it just wont work...! I will try using my Australian SIM card and see if that is the reason.. I tried changing the number in the contacts and took out the international prefix, I turned the international assist on and off still nothing.. How frustrating. I called apple, the technican had know idea and we to his supervisor, had to wait fro 40 miuntes and then I hung up..

After looking at another post (How do I remove a filetype from the Applictions Menu), I succeeded in removing m3u from my Application's Content Type in my user-account but it did not solve my problem. I still get a "What should Firefox do with this file?" dialog.

Arch64: wine won't launch exe on NTFS partitions but will do on reiser

OK, this is an other issue with wine and x64 (2.6.30). I say another because I saw that a lot of us have issues with wine and x64 that end up being answered "wine and 32 bit applications under x64 architecture won't do fine" but this one is driving me nuts: it looks like i'm not far away from making it.
My problem is: wine can't launch applications if the exe is on my NTFS partition but will do if the same exe is on one of my reiserfs partition.

I get the usual wine popup saying that "NOTEPAD.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close" (http://img410.imageshack.us/i/ekrangrnts1.png/)
But:

And NOTEPAD works like a charm!
To answer usual questions:
- I gave each bin32-wine* package a try, even some old versions but none make any difference
- all lib32-* packages are installed (except for community/lib32-libgl and community/lib32-nvidia-utils which would conflict with my aur/lib32-nvidia-utils-beta)
- I tried several nvidia configuration but it really doesn't look like a video driver issue... rather a 64 problem
- I installed many things throught winetricks such as DirectX etc...
- I didn't find any similar issue on google
Here is how I mount my partitions if you think that could come from some right issues:

Actually the line I quoted in the original post was already "experimental". My usual fstab before I tried this one was:
/dev/sda1 /mnt/win_NTFS ntfs-3g users,uid=1000,gid=100,fmask=0113,dmask=0002,locale=fr_FR.utf8 0 0
/dev/sda8 /mnt/my_reiserfs_partition reiserfs defaults 0 0
That gives me:

BTW as we talk about it: "my_reiserfs_partition" is owned by root! Isn't it a security issue? I mean: I can read/write/execute on it as regular user but shouldn't it be mounted with the same rights as /mnt/win_NTFS?

IPad2 won't charge with 10w wall charger, but will via USB port

Hi all,
My iPad2 recently stopped charging at all with the 10W wall charger -- the iPad does not even recognize that the charger is attached (no change in the battery icon). Meanwhile, charging from a USB port works as otherwise expected. Here is what I have done so far to debug the problem, using tips found on this forum:
I replaced the wall charger, including the USB cable, with a new 10W charger from Apple -- no change;
I verified that both the new and old wall charger will charge a borrowed iPad3.
I verified that the same USB cable used with the wall charger will charge my iPad fine when connected to my Mac Mini or a borrowed MBA;
When connected to a powered USB port on a Lenovo ThinkPad, I get the expected "Not Charging" message, but eventually (12 hours) the iPad will charge;
I have performed a hard reboot of the iPad several times, with no change in behavior.
What I have not done yet:
6. Restore to factory settings -- trying to avoid this painful step if possible:
7. Visited the Apple Store -- not logistically convenient at this time.
Any tips from the community what else I might try? I find it curious that the iPad won't recognize a closed charging circuit from the wall charger, but will from a laptop USB port.

Take it into the apple store.
I've had a 30 pin port go bad on my iPad. Said it was 'not charging' even though it was trickle charging, didn't wnat to sync, ,etc.
You very possibly have something internal wrong with your port and it'd be in your best interest to take it in. Especially if it's still under warranty because, barring any obvious signs of abuse or neglect, the 30 pin would fall under manufacturer's defects.

Netflix won't stream after software update

I recently completey a software update on my MacBook. Once completed and rebooted I tried streaming a Netflix movie in Safari and the browser locks up. I can navigate in Netflix and select items. Once I select an item to stream the working symbol appears and then freezes or goes dark.
Anyone else experiencing this? Is it possible to remove a recent software update?

I found the solution on another post here on the apple boards - delete and reinstall.
I uninstalled silverlight.
I restarted my computer.
I navigated back to the same Netflix streaming page.
I again chose to download the .dmg file to install (the same) Silverlight.
I installed Silverlight again and restarted my browser.
This time when I tried to stream the same content, it worked just fine.

At home page of netflix it will switch horizontal and vertical but streaming a movie it will not stream vertically on ipad2

Be sure to look on the side of your iPad and make sure that the mute switch isn't on. You will know if it is on if it has an orange dot on it. You don't want to see the orange dot. Now double tap your home button and swipe left to see the volume controls. Make sure that the volume control is all the way up. Now go to settings > General > Sounds and make sure that the Ringer and Alerts slider is all the way up. Now try the apps and see if they work. If not and your iPad's audio works on other apps such as Pandora then you need to contact the developers. Look on the BlueWizard author's page in the App Store and see if there are any contact details there. If not then you are out of luck.

Netflix won't stream higher than 1750 kbps in Safari

After the Yosemite 10.10.3 update, Netflix in Safari will not stream higher than 1750 kbps (which is only 720x480 and barely DVD quality). Previous to the 10.10.3 update, Netflix would stream (HTML5) up to 5800 kbps. As at test, I have streamed the same Netflix video ("Example Short 23.976") multiple times of the day: the attached picture shows that Safari (left) is maxed at 1750 while the Chrome (right) stream is maxed at 3000 kbps. I was unable to find anything mentioned on the Netflix site regarding this problem. The timing of the problem strongly suggests that something changed in Yosemite 10.3.3/Safari 8 which is limiting the stream bitrate.

Wmvs won't play in Keynote on iPad, but WILL PLAY in keynote pres embedded in iBook on iPad?!!

I have some PPT presentations I want to present from an iPad; they contain embedded video files (WMVs). I open them in Keynote on my iMac, and save them as Keynote presentations. The videos work fine on my computer. However, when I import a presentation onto my iPad, the videos won't play in Keynote. The rest of the presentation works great; just no video playback.
This wouldn't be weird except for the fact that in iBooks author, I will insert a Keynote presentation into a page of a book I made. When I play the presentation on my iPad, in iBooks, the videos work perfectly. Can anyone explain this?
The issue is that because I have an iPad 1, I have to use a VGA connector to present, meaning the Keynote-in-iBook does me no good. Projectors will only display an actual Keynote presentation coming out of an iPad (or full screen video). They won't display a Keynote when it's part of an eBook.
Ideas? If I have to convert all the WMVs to m4vs or something, and re-build my presentations, I will. But the fact that it works without any problems in iBooks gives me a glimmer of hope that there is some way to accomplish this that I'm just not seeing.... Help?

The VLC app will play WMV files. When they are encountered you typically see an offer to open them in VLC and after playing you go back to the app that tried to play the WMV file. Worth a try.

Won't play some songs on ipod but will in itunes

This is concerning an ipod w/color (4th generation I guess)............
All of a sudden, some of the songs won't play on the iPod but they will play when I connect the iPod to itunes and the song list comes up. When I try to play the same song just on the ipod itself it skips down to the next song.
Any ideas?

i got the same problem, happened with "Now its on" and currently with "My Wife, My *****, My Girl", both by Tech N9NE. i ended up just getting now its on from limewire. i think the song for download might be faulty becuase i even deleted the song from my computer and bought it again, but to no avail. as well, i took the song off my ipod and put it on again, which also didn't work. I suggest just finding it on the internet in some other way

Sky App won't accept login on main iPad but will on iPhone and other iPad

I am unable to login to my Sky account on the Sky+ app on my iPad 2. When I input my user name and password it seems to work, but going back into Settings, it still shows that I am not logged in.
1) I can login OK on my iPhone and my other iPad 2 on the same app
2) the iPad that won't work is a replacement for a faulty one that I just got yesterday
3) I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app, reseting the iPad etc.
4) I have restored the iPad as a new device and then , the app works OK and I can login
5) if I restore from a backup, then the app doesn't work
6) I have also tried logging off from all other devices in case only 1 login is allowed, but that made no difference.
The above suggests that I have some form of corruption in my backup, but I can't see why uninstalling/reinstalling the app wouldn't work.
Anyone got any bright ideas apart from restoring as new and reinstalling all apps?

Interesting - I am having the exact same problem on my iPhone4. I have restored the phone but restored it straight to a backup made a few minutes before restoring and the Sky app still does not work. I can login, but then when I go to settings it shows that I am not logged in, and if I try to record a programme the app just dies and I am returned to the springboard.
I will try a full reset and manually reinstall apps and settings etc and see if that works...
