Netgear 834G and Airport

I cannot see the Netgear 834g router when I open Airport Admin utility hence I can't get the 13 digit password to set up security on the network.
I can connect and browse the 'net but with no security.
I'm sure that I have missed a trick. Can anyone help?
Kind Regards
Hugh

Although both Apple Airport and the Netgear DG834 support IEEE802.11g wireless, the DG834 is not an Apple Airport and does not support Apple's proprietary remote configuration features and so can't be configured using the Airport configuration applications.
You need to follow Netgear's instructions for configuration via the router's web interface and manually setup your Mac's own client Airport interface via Internet Connect and/or System Preferences. This includes having to copy over passwords etc.
I did this with my Netgear wireless access point and it all works fine using WPA2-PSK security.

  • Netgear DM111P and Airport Express

i just had the displeasure of setting up this particular combination. according to google a solution is desperately needed and the existing topics didn't really solve the issue...
anyway, i managed to get it working and posted the solution on http://digitalmarried.com/lessn/1

I have had exactly the same problem with the same symptoms.
My Airport Express has worked perfectly with my Thomson/Alcatel SpeedTouch 510 ADSL modem, and originally, I set the system up in minutes. However, the SpeedTouch has just died, so I replaced it with a Netgear DM111P (which incidentally, is the only modem being sold via the French and Swiss Apple Stores). The DM111P was set up (PPPoE, account name & password as given by ISP) using the direct Ethernet connection, and within minutes I was on-line again. Connecting the Airport Express to the modem via the Ethernet cable, I was able to access my Airport connection as before (settings unchanged), but got the permanently scrolling message 'Searching for PPPoE host'.
I wasted a whole weekend trying to find out why I could access the internet directly, but could no longer connect via the Airport Express (looked as if the modem and Airport were not communicating with each other). In my last ditch attempt, I found something that worked-
    System Preferences> Network> Airport:
    TCP/IP tab
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    Airport Admin Utility:
    Internet tab
    Connect Using: Ethernet
    Configure: Using DHCP
    DHCP ClientID: **********
where ********** is the 12 character Airport Ethernet ID printed on the case of the Airport.
    Connected first time!

  • IMac on Netgear X104 and Airport Extreme intermittently loses IP address

We have a Netgear X104 plugged into an Airport Extreme Base Station.
Another X104 (which carries network information through the household electrical wiring) is plugged in for a networked iMac with OS X v 10.5.4.
The network works flawlessly, but every few days, the iMac loses its IP address. All lights are working properly on the X104, indicating that it is seeing the network.
The only workaround on the iMac is to go to: System Preferences/Network/Advanced and click RENEW DHCP LEASE. The iMac then gets reassigned a new IP, such as 10.0.0.200 by the Airport Extreme.
The Airport Extreme, settings are as follows.
Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
    Wireless security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Connect using: Ethernet
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    IP Address: Provided automatically
Powering off and on the Airport Extreme and the Cable Modem have not fixed this recurrent problem.

  • Netgear DG834G and Airport Extreme ?

I've done a few searches and I just need this confirmed ...
I've got a Netgear DG834G Wireless Modem router and an Airport Extreme and would like to get them talking to each other - which I thought I did last night ! - so i can have the ADSL connection in one room shared out over wireless to the AE connected to a G4 via one of it's ethernet ports ...
I have read that the Airport Express and a Netgear device is not compatible with Apple's WDS - does that apply to the Extreme as well ?
Is that correct as when I checked the log on the airport it had made a connection with the netgear but I couldn't for the life of me organise a proper network between them !
    Any suggestions appreciated...
I've been using the Airport for ages so not a real newbie... BUT... getting them to do what I want is proving an interesting project !
    Mitch

Personally I wouldn't go for a USB adaptor as they are pretty ropey at best. You can get Wireless to Ethernet bridges that join an existing wireless network and provide an ethernet connection. They don't require WDS support as they pretend to be a client on the wireless network. Netgear even do one (allthough as you probably guessed I'm not a keen Netgear supporter).
The other possibility is if it is a G4 desktop that has PCI slots a Broadcom based PCI wireless card will be automatically recognised as an Airport Extreme card by OSX and can be picked up cheap on eBay.

  • Netgear DG834G and Airport Express

    Hello,
Can anyone help me? I've just upgraded to a Netgear DG834g Wireless ADSL router. This is connected via ethernet to my G5, and my iBook and girlfriends Powerbook connect to it wirelessley.
Setting all this up took minutes. So far so good.
BUT, I cannot get this to talk to my Airport Express.
In the Netgear setup, I have added the AE to the 'Trusted' list (I used the MAC address on the side of the AE unit), but nothing will detect it.
I've tried using Airport Setup utility on both the iBook and the Powerbook but neither device can see it.
The amber light on the AE just flashes. I've even done a factory reset on it, but still no joy.
I've read through some posts on here and I can see that folks have managed to get these two devices talking to each other, but what I want to know is How? Have I missed something obvious?
    Please help....
BTW, I'm using OS X 10.4.2 on all machines.
    Many thanks

Panic over - the AE needed a hard reset, and re-configuring through Netgear set up, and AE setup utility.
    All working fine now.

  • Netgear ReadyNAS and Airport Extreme

Hi, I just got my Airport Extreme up and running and very happy with wireless connection so far.
I have a problem - I can't seem to get access to my Netgear NAS attached by network cable to the AE base station. I can't even seem to find it on Finder. Got my whole life on the NAS now I can't access it!
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
    Regards,
    Terence

Does that work the other way? I have a 'Bell' wireless router that creates my home wireless network. I'm trying to use my Airport Extreme to 'extend' my wireless network into the basement, and plugging my desktop Mac comp. into that with Ethernet.
Are there lots of complications when trying to use an Extreme with other router brands?

  • Netgear N600 and Airport Express working together... Any ideas???

My Netgear N600 daulband router just started giving me problems the last few days. So thinking I needed a new router I decided to go with an Airport Express. I ordered it and it's on the way. Now after swaping out the power supply cord on the Netgear it's working fine again. (the problem was in the power cord) Since I have the Airport Express coming I was wondering how I could use it with my Netgear N600 router. I have two Apple TV units and also use wifi with my ipad and iphone and laptop (non-apple).
Is there a way I can use the Airport express to extend my wifi thru out the house? Any ideas or thoughts on this? Should I just send it back? Open to all ideas. Thanks

So Bob let me ask you this, are anyone else that may have any ideas. Should I hook up the Netgear router first then wire the Airport Express to it, or the Airport Express first then wire the Netgear router to it. Will it make a diffrent? I think the Netgear N600 is faster, 600 vs 300. Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks

  • Netgear DG834N and Airport Express

I have a network set up on my Netgear DG834N wireless router/modem. Can I 'add' an Airport Express base station to the same network and play iTunes through my speakers? At the moment it's on it's own network and that is far from ideal.
    thanks
    Jeff

    Welcome!
Open Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Airport Utility
Click on your AirPort Express and there is a guided step by step to walk you through the process.
Basically, you want to "join" the network that the Netgear is creating by selecting the name of the network, security and passord. iTunes is enabled by default. You will need to assign a name to your Express and a device password, etc.
Post back if you need more information.
The Setup Guide may help as well.

  • Netgear router and airport express

    hi
could someone please help me and tell me(in very simple terms!) how to extend the range of my network. my mini mac is too far away from my netgear DG834GT router and have been trying for days to use a/ex to reach it.Have tried everything i know which i freely admit isnt much but airport utility doesn't seem to see the router. i have seen people having similar problems but am hoping someone is out there to take me through it in words of 2 syllables or less! help

charlie117, Welcome to the discussion area!
The Netgear device is not compatible with Apple's WDS. Therefore there is no way to use your AirPort Express (AX) to wirelessly extend the range of the Netgear.
You could run an Ethernet cable from the Netgear to the AX. Then the AX would create a wireless network at it's location which would be an extension of the Netgear's network.

  • BT ADSL Netgear DG834PN and Airport Exteme

Hello. I just purchased AE to help extend my network. I have 2 iMacs, and 2 ibook, Pc laptop. I thought I could just switch out the Netgear for the AE but I am slowly realizing that the netgear is a modem/router and AE is not. Can I attach the Netgear to the AE to extend my network and if anyone can help my to do this it would be great. Or should I return the AE and just get a new Netgear modem/router? Thanks. Christine

Can I attach the Netgear to the AE to extend my network...
    Via Ethernet yes.
    Via wireless no.

  • Netgear WNDR3300 and Airport Express

I am having a problem with extending my network, I get all the way set up and when I choose to extend network and click on the network I want to extend I get a drop down error stating that network cannot be extended. Is my router not compatible with the Express or vice versa?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Unfortunately, Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature will only work if both your "main" and "remote" devices are newer Apple products. This feature is not compatible with other manufacturer's devices.

Thank you so much.  Any specifics I should know about prior to connecting? The goal is to watch  Netflix from my iPad or iPhone 5 on my tv (located in different room from where Comcast internet modem is hard wired to main computer in house).  Movies would depend on wireless transmission to a smart tv not connected to modem.

  • Is anyone using NETGEAR Push2TV with a MacBook Pro and AirPort Extreme and does it work well for you?

I am interested in buying a NETGEAR Push2TV display TV streamer to use with my MacBook Pro and AirPort Extreme.
I saw on the Netgear site that a Intel Wireless Display/WIFI driver software is required for PC's; do we have this software installed already on our MacBook Pro's? Is any one using this box and does it work well for you, any problems or setup issues?

  • AirMac Extreme and Airport Express not working with Netgear N Router?

I've been using an AirMac Extreme (old model) as a wireless router, and Airport Express for it's airtunes functionality (conected to my Hi-Fi).
These used to work fine, and both would show up in my Airport Utility on my Macs.
I've now just upgraded to a 50MG broadband contract, and the engineer gave me a Network router as my old AirMac Extreme couldn't handle that bandwidth.
When I connected my AirMac Extreme to my Netgear router I then got conflicts, sometimes it wouldn't show up, and it really slowed down my wireless signal. As a result the contractor for my broadband recommended I disconnect my Air Mac Extreme from the router. Speeds went up for the internet, but now I can't get my airtunes to work.
What I want to know is can I just use my Netgear to transmit the broadband signal so I get maximum internet speeds, but then have my AirMac Extreme and Airport Express connected so that I can still listen to my itunes wirelessly?
Ideally I'd like this to all be set up so that I could be conected to the internet through the Netgear wirelessly and listen to my itunes through the Airport Express at the same time.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I am sorry that I don't have a definitive answer but I also have Windows computers and I have "inherited" some older Apple devices from my son and am trying to learn about them so in addition to searching this group,  I "Googled" "1st generation airport express" and it listed many specific posts in this group - I read them all and they might answer your question - good luck

  • Connect Modem, Netgear router and 2 airports

I have a modem and separate netgear wireless router supplied by comcast. Would like to set up a wireless network using 2 airport extreme base stations, each connected via ethernet to the router.
Is this possible? I assume that both airports would be in bridge mode, each connected via ethernet to the Netgear router and then the router connected to the modem?

    Welcome to the discussions!

Sure, it will work fine as you describe. You'll need to configure each AirPort Extreme to "create a wireless network" and setup security and a password for each device.
You have the option of configuring two separate wireless networks, or if you assign the exact same wireless network name, security and password to both AirPort Extremes, you will in effect create a large "extended" network.
This is called a "roaming" network because computers will automatically connect to the wireless access point with the strongest signal as they "roam" around the house. As in the above example, both AirPort Extremes would be configured in bridge mode in this type of setup.
Post back if you need any more details about this.
