Netgear MR814v2 help

I have a Mac mini and a G4 iBook, both with the latest OS.
I have a Netgear MR814v2 wireless router.
I cannot get the thing to work. The browser set-up starts up, and detects that I have a dynamic DCHP, which is correct. However, that is as far as it gets. The router IP shows in Network prefs, but I cannot connect to the internet, whatever I do.
I am a bit stumped, now

It sounds to me like your router is setup fine on your side (computers), but needs something for the outside world (internet). What kind of broadband connection are you using? DSL?
I know our DSL requires a login and password, as well as a PPPoE setting. If you jump on the interal webpage of the router, by opening up Safari and typing in the router's IP address, you can config the router. On our Linksys, there is a drop down menu where I can change it to PPPoE and there is also a place where I can type our login and password. If these aren't done, our internal network functions, but no one can get out. Hope this helps.

  • Degraded Upload Speed With Netgear R6300 - Help Pl...

    Hi,
I changed my router for BT Infinity from the Home Hub 3 to a Netgear R6300 and have suffered a degradation of the upload speed.
Previously with the BT Home Hub I was getting 16 mbps upload but after changing to the Netgear R6300 I am getting 12 mbps upload. Changing back to the BT Home Hub 3 restores the upload speed to 16mbps.
There was no degradation of the download speed with both the BT Home Hub 3 and the Netgear R6300 giving 74mbps.
To setup the Netgear R6300, I allowed the Netgear Genie to detect the internet and offer me the WAN type and login options. It automatically selected WAN Type of PPPoE and I then entered the usual login details of
    UserName = [email protected]
    Password = BT
After selecting these options and exiting the Netgear Geniie to go back to the internet it was all working but with the degraded upload speed.
Is there something I need to manually configure in the router to get the maximum upload speed for my connection?
    Any help most appreciated.

  • NETGEAR disaster, Help

    So here is situation,
I just got my Tiscali 8Mb broadband, and my Netgear wpn824v2 router, D-link modem, everything is connected via ethernet, but it,s deadly slow.
So in preferences pane I entered ISP primary DNS server no, I did configuration and Its get a bit faster, and I was able to use at least safari,
so I decide to download some stuff , and launched application- result was disaster, I straight away lost connection with ISP and even when I quit application, I couldn't launch safari.
problem was solved just when I did full restarting of router, but I still can't use downloading application ;((
Can u mac pro's help me, please?

I'm not familiar with Menu Meters but from what you say I'm sure it measures burst speeds.
2.4Mb and 0.4Mb sound fine. You are paying for "Up to 8Mb (depandant on line speed)" you are not paying for "8Mb" (check the small print).
Safari is quite renounced as a slow browser. I'd advise trying the same connection using Firefox. Within Safari using the Empty Cache command on the Safari Menu often improves Safari performance.

  • Macbook and Netgear Router - complications & fix

I am sure lots of you are having similar difficulties with the Macbook and Routers. As soon as I brought my new Macbook home I knocked the whole wireless network out of being usable. The only way to fix it was to close up my Macbook or turn off Airport, then completely rewire the modem and router, resetting them both.
    BUT..I found this article:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070105083013439
    and updated my Netgear router.
I have been online wirelessly for a few minutes with my Macbook and it has not messed up the network...yet!
You can access the Netgear MR814v2 through:

After logging into your router, download the update here:

Go to your Netgear router smart wizard page (that you already logged onto) click "Router Upgrade" beneath "Maintenance" on the left menu. Click "Choose File" to choose the .img file you downloaded already and upload it.
Here's to hoping this is defenitely the fix I needed, and perhaps it will help some of you.

    Hi Don -
I see you've replied to Andrea, and I'm sure you're a very helpful fellow on these forums judging by the number of bars next to your login. Maybe you're chums with Andrea, I don't know. However, since I'm the only other poster in this thread so far, I'm sure you won't mind if I ask to what or whom specifically you're referring. It would seem you've been troubled by a great number of posts by people who haven't posted in this thread, unless of course you mean me. I don't post much in these forums, so perhaps I don't understand your protocols, but it sure feels as if you're preaching to the choir. I certainly didn't post my questions and results in anticipation of a short treatise on lethargy. I - and I'm sure many others like me with less expertise than those like you who respond to our questions - post here as a last resort when things that have worked fail to work after recent changes. In our case, after several years of uninterrupted service from our router, the only hitch we experienced was with the addition of our MBP; my search on the Discussions pointed me to this thread, and thankfully Andrea's link. Are you actually begrudging folks for not diagnosing the hitch as a firmware update before posting a question? Isn't a forum like this the place for folks who "think they know a little" to ask questions of those who think they know a little more? By this inflated measure (didn't it used to be "those who think they know everything?"), no one should post questions, nor certainly expect useful responses, as your post suggests.

  • Safari vs. Router

Recently Safari (IE also) has failed to load pages. For example when I try to load apple.com the progress bar reaches from 75 to 95% and then stops. I can try to reload the page but it never finishes the load. In addition, when downloading files to the desktop, just before completion they magically dissappear only to reappeaar complete and mounted after a reboot.
At first I thought it was just Safari, so I tried IE with the same results. Then I thought it was my AE card. I got the same results using the ethernet cable.
Which brings me to how I can even access this site. Im using my neighbors signal. Which low and behold works just dandy.
Next I powered down and reset both my cable modem and Netgear MR814v2 hoping that would solve the problem. Nope still cant get pages to load which leaves me with two possibilties, faulty hardware, or my ISP is playing practical jokes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I experience a problem with the router:
If i connect to internet via the router (Belkin wireless 11.g) my downloads (web pages and files) stop after a few Kbytes. This happens both for wired connections and wireless connection.
If I connect straight to the modem via Ethernet, the problem disappear.
This problem started a couple of months ago. Before everythong was working fine.
The only change in the system since then is the installation of eMule.
    Any help???

  • No wireless on Mac Mini

I've had my mac mini since may with no wireless capability. I have the airport extreme card w/bluetooth. I have a Netgear MR814V2 wireless router. I am using an RCA cable modem w/comcast internet service. I am able to access the internet via cable, but wireless does not work. I have done everything I know how with the router (adding mac address to access list, removing WEP, etc, etc. I am able to connect flawlessly with a POS Dell D600 laptop (which, by the way, is very upsetting as I bought this MAC to get away from my PC frustrations).
Internet browsing using via cable is also slow (pages load slow, some pictures don't load on specific pages), however, when I check my speed via an online check it is registering high speeds (as expected).
It didn't work with OS9 so I upgraded to OS10 and it still does not work. I have seen a lot of message traffic on this being related to OS10, so I waited for 10.2 to be released figuring it would fix the problem. No such luck. I tried all of the tricks that I could find on the internet with no resolution.
When I open the wireless connection tool, it shows my network but I am unable to connect to it. It gives me the error "Error connecting to network" with no options for password input. It appears to not recognize WEP (I am using WEP to secure the connection). It does not pickup the DHCP address automatically. I've tried doing it manually with no success.
I've tried using the diagnostics tool, but that just tells me to restart the modem/router and then gives me a message that something with the connection is wrong. I was under the impression that MAC's were just plug and play and were supposed to connect flawlessly with any internet device.
I have a friend with a powerbook who was able to flawlessly connect to my router wirelessly with no problems or need for modem/router resets. He was using MAC OS9.
Anyone else having problems? I have a feeling it may be hardware related. Having no time to fiddle with this, my 90 days of apple care has run out.
Any ideas of how to get this fixed? Can I take this thing into an apple store and get free help?
    Thanks

I'm a little confused. You upgraded to OS X from OS 9? All minis came with OS 10.3 and have never been able to boot into OS 9.
On my iMac, all I had to do was select the Airport icon in the menu bar, select the network I wanted to connect to, put in the password, and I was online.

  • IPhone 3G WiFi strange behavior

    Hi
So i got an iphone 3g just recently. I Activated it and updated to 2.0.1. Then i started playing around with it and found out that wireless networks get discovered and displayed but i cant join one of them (altough i know the credentials).
So the first network is the one at home (Netgear MR814v2, 802.11b). I started with mac-filtering and wep, didn't work. (Couldn't connect to the Network "..."). Then i turned every security feature off but i still couldn't connect.
I tried eduroam at my university which is probably wpa(1 or 2)-enterprise secured. i get asked for username and password, the phone tries to connect but nothing happens (no error, no success).
Next were the 2 WiFis at work, both unsecured - one uses VPN, the other authentication via www. Couldn't connect to either network.
Then i tried to connect to a shared ethernet network from my Powerbook. Still couldn't connect to the network (with above errormsg).
Finally i created an adhoc-wifi-network. I could connect to that one (after assigning the ip-addr manually. Then i was able to ping the iphone which was responding as expected. Sadly i couldn't use the adhoc-network for anything useful.
I checked the logfiles using the Iphone Configuration Utility and there was an error "-3" but i have no idea what that means or what i can do about that.
I already tried rebooting, reinserting the sim-card, resetting network-settings and all settings, as well as a restore via itunes but nothing helped.
The weird thing is, all networks get displayed and technically Wifi is working (because i can connect to the adhoc network). Is there anything i can do besides taking it back to the mothership and ask for a repair?

    Hey alecamused,
Try Resetting Network Settings on the iPhone. Go to Settings> General> Reset> Reset Network Settings.
This article provides other common Wi-Fi tips.

Also, you can restore the iPhone and setup as a new phone to rule out any issues with the iPhones software. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744

  • Graphic designer haing trouble connecting an Epson 3880

I recently purchased the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and use an Airport Extreme to hard wire connect via ethernet 2 macbook pros and my Apple TV. I want to be able to network the printer so that I can print from either computer. There is an open USB 2.0 port on the Airport, and the Epson also has a USB port, however when connected in this way, although the printer is recognized, I get an error message when trying to print either from Photoshop or Quark.  Epson tech support advises that the 3880 will not work with the USB on the Airport, and advises that I must connect directly from one of the macbook pros, or via ethernet. Since I'm out of Ethernet ports on my Airport, I'm wondering if I can add ethernet ports by connecting a Netgear MR814v2 Wireless Router to the one of the Ethernet ports, and connecting one or more of my previously described devices to the Router (it has 4 ports).  Has anyone done this, or have a better recommendation?
Previously, I had an Epson Stylus Pro 2200 connect to the Airport with the USB and had no problem.

Thanks for the tip on inserting photos. I'm new here, won't post a link in the future.
    I'll try to simplify my issue;
    1. In CS6 in Snow Leopard, the original/source image looks just like the image in the print dialog box and prints beautifuly. See images below.
    Original image.
    Print dialog box image.
    2. In PS CC and CS6 in Mt. Lion, the original/source image is redder and more saturated than the image in the print dialog box, but the print looks like the the image in the print dialog box. The image in the print dialog box looks like the original/source image in CS6 in Snow Leopard! See images below.
    Original image.
    Print dialog box image.
    3. The issue seems to be with how the original/source image in PS CC and CS6 renders in Mt. Lion. As I said in my intial post, I have three friends who are having the same problem and none of us can figure it out, and I'm the only one who kept Snow Leopard.
    4. I'm on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and Mt. Lion on a partitioned disk.
    5. I have an Eizo CG222W monitor, which is calibrated with an x-rite ColorMunki. Each OS has it's own calibration profile.
    6. I print on an Epson 3880 using the latest driver, and all papers have thier own profile and look the same when printed from either OS.
    7. All settings in PS CC, CS6 and Bridge are identical in both OS's.
I hope this is stated more clearly.

  • 10.5.3 Update Wireless Issues (WiFi, Wireless)

    Hi there,
I see several posts regarding networking issues with the +Mac OS 10.5.3 Update+, but have not seen one describing my exact issue.
After updating my 15" MacBook Pro (2.33GHz) with the +Mac OS 10.5.3 Update+ via +Software Update+, I had no problem connecting to and using my home and office networks (AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme, respectively).
At a third location however, I connect to a Netgear MR814v2 802.11g router which shares a Comcast Cable Modem. Wired into the router are two computers, an X-Box (or some sort of gaming console) and a Vonage VoIP box. Wirelessly connected are generally 1 - 4 Macs. Two are running Mac OS 10.4.11 and two are running Mac OS 10.5.2.
After performing the +Mac OS 10.5.3 Update+, all devices on the network loose their connection to the internet whenever my machine attempts to connect to the router. On my machine, I'll see that I'm connected to the router but I'll have a self assigned IP address.
Resetting only the router does not solve the problem.
Resetting the Comcast Cable Modem solves the problem of the other devices on the network loosing their internet connection (at least until I attempt another connection), but still does not allow me to successfully connect.
Deleting AirPort as a type of network connection and re-adding it in the Network pane of the +System Preferences+did not solve the problem
    Thanks!

is what makes me think the issue is in your Netgear or Comcast router, not with Mac OS X 10.5.3.
But more to the point, Comcast's routers generally will only issue four IP addresses via DHCP, and if you want to connect more devices than that you need to have your home router setup to create a NAT network locally. That's where your router receives an IP address from your Comcast router, but then the Netgear creates its own network via ethernet and wireless and all packets are translated to and from the Internet through it.
I presume you've also tried the various suggestions at the Netgear MR814v2 troubleshooting page?
Also, you state you have a "MR814v2 802.11g" router, but the MR814v2 is 802.11b only…

  • Mac OSX 10.5.8 is out!  Anyone finally see if Airport got fixed?

Well as you know, it ain't no secret that airport is krap when it comes to MBP's and wireless. Anyone FINALLY see an improvement with 10.5.8?
Also, any problems after the install like the ones from before on 10.5.7? The macs version of the blue screen of death? Link below,
(yes, the loop that ran rampid here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2004356&tstart=0 and had to do a hard shut down and reboot in order to escape the loop)
So has anyone seen an improvement with airport and the disconnects? Or is Apple gonna wait on fixing this age old 'issue' till OSX 10.6 comes out? (Or maybe even beyond)
Lastly, anyone know if it breaks your tethering with your iphone 3g? (don't wanna upgrade if it does cause I like tethering)
I know it's too early to tell, but anyone have comments?

Oh I agree, it must be very frustrating for those suffering duff Airport connections.
I would encourage anyone who is suffering this problem to thoroughly check any third party software on their Mac, and the hardware as well.
I had a period where my Airport connection seemed to grind to a halt, but connect with a cable and all was fine. In the end I found changing the channel used by my Netgear router helped enormously. Then my neighbor moved away taking his wireless router with him all my problems disappeared normality returned and I went back to channel 11. In someway his router had been the cause of my troubles. Doing some checking and my troubles started when he got his new router and went when he moved house a few weeks later.
Shortly after that I thought the problem had come back but it turned out to be a problem with my ISP and DNS. Again this resulted in very slow access the first time you went to a domain but then was OK while you stayed on that domain. Go to another domain and it was slow again.

Can not activate Face Time or iMessage just get can not sign in please
check network connection. Have tried everything I have read in past post.
    Please help.

    Hello Nikki
    I have won the battle.
right let me tell you what  i did and in what order.
First i restored my Ipad 2 to original factory settings, backing up content so i lost nothig.
then i reset my router, this caused me a few probs as i am not that computer savvy and i needed netgear to help me re configure my router.
after a long conversation with apple we came to the conclusion that the passwords were causing the problem.
i spent time explaining to them that when i originally set up my itunes account and then my mobile me account there were no stipulations regarding numbers and capitals in passwords, hence when i got my IPAD my passwords were not "appropriate" even though they were working fine.
I decided to reset ALL my passwords associated with I tunes, mobile me and addle ID to the correct requirements which are; at least 8 figures with at least 1 number and a capital.
I then reset my DNS code on my IPAD to 8.8.8.8
(go to WIFI settings, touch arrow to right of your network and change DNS code)
    and voila, it worked.
I would try and sort all passwords out to correct requirements ( one number, one capital the rest can be lower case). then change your DNS code, then try face time.
if that doesnt work then it may be a case of restoring factory settings on your IPad and resetting the router.
I appreciate how frustrating this is as they are not cheap.
loads of luck and do let me know how you get on.

  • WRVS4400N - Limited WAN Speed?

    Hey there,
My customer has a WRVS4400N from November 2011 running the latest V2.0.2.2 firmware.  I've looked through settings and tried a couple things, but no matter what... I cannot achieve faster than 25 Mbps Download.  We also added a D-Link for a Fonality VoIP system and anything connected through that router can get 50 Mbps.
Is there any reason this Cisco would not be able to download at 50 Mbps?

My comment about changing brands wasn't because of the speed limitation... It was the support limitation.
I called in for help / questions and was told my "Lifetime Warranty" product carries no support / ability to HELP DETERMINE if I have a defective unit.  NETGEAR has helped me without a problem in the past on 5 year old ProSafe routers.
In this situation, I did replace the clients router with an RV180W and have no issues achieving beyond 50 Mbps.
