Netgear N600 - "No DSL"

I've got Infinity but FTTC. Connect to it using standard ADSL socket thingy rather than ethernet type connector.
After some initial teething problems, got broadband working (dodgy DIY wiring) but BT HomeHub 5 doesn't have the range I need. Also have some other issues with HomeHub that mean I'd prefer to use another modem/router.
I've got a Netgear N600 but it reports "No DSL" and the DSL light keeps flashing. I've checked the default settings and they match what I've seen on other posts. I've told the router that no password is required.

According to http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/networking/dsl-modems-routers/dgnd3700.aspx this only has an ADSL modem. You need a VDSL2 modem.

  • How do I use a netgear N600 router with Infinity 1

I have searched various forums etc. with mixed success so am hoping that someone here can give me an idiot's guide to connecting to the internet using my netgear N600 router rather than using the BT Homehub 5. BT say that I can do it (despite my router being set up for ADSL and the HH5 being set up for VDSL) but that they can't tell me how! They sent me an email with various details I would need but I can't see where most of them need to be added when I connect to the netgear set up wizard. What I could see I filled in but when I tried to connect the netgear genie told me the ADSL cable wasn't connected. Can anyone give me a step by step guide of what to do please? I would be very grateful. Thanks

I just have the homehub 5 - I have seen various complicated descriptions elsewhere explaining how to use the HH5 as just a modem or how to just connect directly with the Netgear but all have been a bit over my head!
The HH5 cannot be used as a stand alone modem. You could use the Netgear as a simple wireless access point, but you would lose most of the functions, and would be better off using a proper wireless access point.
You cannot use the Netgear as a router, without a modem.

  • Netgear N600 and Airport Express working together... Any ideas???

My Netgear N600 daulband router just started giving me problems the last few days. So thinking I needed a new router I decided to go with an Airport Express. I ordered it and it's on the way. Now after swaping out the power supply cord on the Netgear it's working fine again. (the problem was in the power cord) Since I have the Airport Express coming I was wondering how I could use it with my Netgear N600 router. I have two Apple TV units and also use wifi with my ipad and iphone and laptop (non-apple).
Is there a way I can use the Airport express to extend my wifi thru out the house? Any ideas or thoughts on this? Should I just send it back? Open to all ideas. Thanks

So Bob let me ask you this, are anyone else that may have any ideas. Should I hook up the Netgear router first then wire the Airport Express to it, or the Airport Express first then wire the Netgear router to it. Will it make a diffrent? I think the Netgear N600 is faster, 600 vs 300. Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks

  • NetGear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400

    Hi all,
My neighbor and I (Sarah) both live on the second floor of a circa 1820 house.
Wi-fi is included in our rent.
Neither of us can connect to the house's NetGear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router (which is on the first floor) with our MacBooks (both purchased new earlier this year and both running Mac OS 10.7).
We can connect to the network with our iPhones, iPads and Windows Notebooks.
But when we try to connect with our MacBooks, we get a connection timeout error.
Any help would be mucho appreciated.
    Mike

This is a part of the larger MacBook Pro connectivity issue. There are several related threads dealing with the MBP's networking problems. If your unit is suffering from this type of difficulty, good luck ... (or a long ethernet cable)

  • Bridging a Westell 9100EM Router to a Netgear N600

    Hello there,
I was wondering if there was a way to turn my Westell 9100EM Router into an access point/bridge, so I can setup my Netgear N600 Router to work as a client, so that the signal is evenly and more furtherer spread across my house. I am an intermediate when it comes to networking, so a step-by-step would be heavily appreciated. Thank you!

If you have FiOS TV service, then you shouldn't bridge it.  Verizon interlaced so many TV features into the westell router that it would probably put a damper on your FiOS TV experience.
    These features include
    The Guide System and Updates
    The Video On Demand
    The Widgets
    Caller ID on TV
    Multi Room DVR
    Remote DVR
So if you have FiOS TV, don't bridge.  Instead you CAN piggy back the router, and get the same affect. Follow the instructions below.
Can I use my wireless or an extra router along with the Verizon provided router?
If you don't have FiOS TV service, then Check Which Wan LIGHT is lit on your router.
If you have just the ETHERNET WAN lit, then just simply release your ip address of your westell, disconnect it and plug in your router.  Configure it for DHCP and you should be good to go.
If you have Coax WAN Lit, then you can make a choice.
You can hook up ethernet cable from the Verizon ONT directly to your router. Call Verizon and ask them to switch you to ethernet (online chat also might be able to help you do this)
You can try bridging the modem using one of the methods listed in this FAQ

  • Can I swap my HH5 with Netgear N600 to get my home...

I have the HH5 and new master socket can I swap to Netgear N600 to enable my home network working again with DNLA sharing which has gone since using HH5 and no help from BT.

Your Netgear is only a router. It does not have a VDSL modem so you would need to get an Openreach modem and connect that in place of the Homehub 5 and then connect your Netgear router to the Openreach modem.

  • BT HomeHub versus Netgear N600 - which should I us...

I have recently been through a painful cycle of getting my ADSL service working again.  In the process I purchased a new Netgear N600 router/modem as the BT 'helpline' thought the router had failed (which it turned out it hadn't).  Having bought this new router, should I use it or stick with the BT HomeHub unit?  Do either hold advantages over the other?  Thanks in advance.

  • Apple tv and Netgear N600

We have a Netgear N600 dual frequency router and it gives us endless problems trying to connect with Apple TV (v6.2) either on 5g or 2.3. Most of the time I need to disconnect from the modem and reconnect before ATV can connect with the internet/iTunes store. As the password must be re-entered each time this is incredibly irritating. Sometimes even that doesn't work. Does anyone else have this problem with this combination or else any suggestions?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Will my Lenovo W510 WiFi work with a 2.4:5Ghz Netgear N600 WNDR3400 dual-band home broadband router?

As an update, I bought the WNDR3400v2 router and am supremely disappointed with its lack of power - but - the Lenovo W510 DOES work perfectly fine connecting to both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios.
The problem is the signal strength only twenty feet away up one floor is dismal (as compared to what it was with the ancient Linksys WRT54G for example).
What bothers me is that Netgear goes to great lengths to hide the power output of the radio so I 'suspect' that it is anemic and I don't (yet anyway) suspect the radio on the W510 laptop. Netgear support would only tell me the EIRP at 2.4GHz is 20dBm, and at 5GHz it's double that. So I can only assume the power output from that. If I assume a 5dBi antenna gain for both frequencies, that results in a power output guesstimate of 15dBm (32mW) at 2.4GHz and double that at, i.e., 18dBm or 64mW, at 5GHz.
The other side of the equation, of course, is the power & gain of the W510 radio & antenna.
Do we have specs for the W510 power output & antenna gain (e.g., a typical laptop is about 50mW (roughly 15 to 18 dBm)  pushed into an antenna with a gain of about 1/2 dBi to about 1 dBi at best, regardless of what the specification sheet intimates)?

  • No Internet Access wtih NetGear N600

helo guys.  I have just moved home and the boardband has activated on 25th April.  it kept dropping (say no internet access), signal is perfect.  I had almost no internet from this morning till now.  I am running a NetGear Dual band N600.  Please let me know if I got the correct settings with my N600.

Hi Welcome to the forums  as your connection has just gone live you are still in a 10 day line training period during which time  you may disconnect  and speeds vary

Can you also post the full results fromBT Speedtest speedtester.bt.com
Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

  • New netgear n600 dual band router

Trying to get iPad to connect wirelessly with no luck.   However in router monitor, I see the iPad is attached and getting IP#.
Mac connects wired with no issues.
Roku Box wired is also not working.
I had set SIDs with different names for frequencies as Apple suggests.
    Any tips?

You mentioned DHCP,  so I looked at settings closer.
It seemed on Mac book more information was supplied from DHCP,  like DNS server.
On iTouch and iPad the DNS was not being supplied.
I tried disabling DHCP on new router, but did not help.
But, what works is leaving new router as DHCP server and it hands out 10.x.x.x numbers.
Then in DHCP settings, I hard coded DNS server address.
Then reset all devices to force out new IP#s.    It worked!!!
The only think broke is my ROKU box.   I can't even get it working with old setup.  I had tried resetting with factory defaults and there were it broke it.   The device most likely has old DHCP IP lease number, however it seems with old setup I should be able to roll back.
But,  all the Apple stuff is working great with Netgear router.
Now, if I reboot DSL router and it ever tries to change DNS server,  it may break my new router.   But, I'll just have to remember that when it happens.  Hopefully dns server address doesn't change very often.

  • New Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router (WNDR3400)

Installed a new wireless router. MacBook Pro sees SSID & connects perfectly. IPad can't even see the SSID name. Try to type in network name manually & get message "Cannot find the Network ________" Iphone 3GS does the same thing
2.4 & 5 ghz networks are named differently & have same security settings as per Apple's suggestion, still no good.
Cleared network settings to default on Ipad & restarted. Still no luck
IPad & I phones are able to work on other wireless systems with no issues. Just this one.
    What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

  • Cannot connect iPhone 4 (iOS5) to Netgear N600 (WNDR3400)

I have a WNDR3400 router. Connected to this are three different access points/switches (big house and a lot of devices).
My (2) new iPhone 4's that I upgraded out of the box to iOS 5 on Saturday will not connect to this router at all. Neither will 2009 Macbook Pro (OS X Lion), and a 2nd Gen iPhone (iOS 3.1.3).
The router is fine, connected to it are 2 Dell Win 7 laptops (2.4/5Ghz),  2nd Gen Touch (iOS 4.2.1). 3rd Gen Touch (iOS 5), and a Wii (wireless 'g'). ALL of these work flawlessly. All of these devices also can connect to the access point in my man cave if they venture too far from the family room. Everything else is wired, so of no concern. Each MAC address on my network also has a static IP address assigned, easier to watch for intruders this way with this much activity.
So the iPhone 4's will connect to the Belkin b/g access point in my family roomor the 'b/g/n' access point in my man cave. But we are not usually around that one, so the iPhones will NOT connect to the WNDR3400. I have done the following troubleshooting steps:
Reset router, reset iPhones and Mac. Can't use 'Forget Network' because it won't connect at all anyway.
I removed ALL security settings, nada.
    I changed the SSID, nada.
Disabled 5Ghz (I don't know why), but nada.
Tried with WMM on and off, nada.
Set up QoS setting the iPhones MAC addresses at varying levels of priority, nada.
Went through all channels 1-11, nada.
Set wireless modes to 54, 145, and 300 Mbps, nada.
I've tried the following security modes:
    None
    WEP
    WPA-PSK [TKIP]
    WPA2-PSK [AES] My normal setting
    WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
    NADA!!!
I am fairly savvy at getting devices to play nice with eachother and my network was working great so everyone.
The Mac and old iPhone are my son's toys, I tried to connect his Pro while running Win 7 and still having the same problems.
Please help all you Mactacular people!

I know this is an old thread but I've been struggling w/ this problem for some time and haven't found a viable solution to the problem anywhere on the internet.
However, assigning a static IP to my iPhone 5 (iOS 7.0.2) in the router and on the phone seems to prevent it from constantly being dropped (so far, approx 4 hours).
I will be doing the same w/ a 3Gs and 4s for a couple other users and will report if their outcomes are different.
Hopefully this helps anybody who is still searching for a solution to this problem.

  • N600 vs, Apple Itouch and Iphone 4s

I have a netgear N600 wireless router. My 2nd generation Itouch will only connect to it occasionally. It use to connect fine but now it either takes a very long time or doesn't connect at all even when it's right next to it. My son also has trouble with his Iphone 4s. The router is hard connected to a Comcast Arris modem. I'm thinking it's the router but am at a loss of what to do?

As I am not familiar with that particular router I had to do a little diggging.
From what I've read, I need to ask a question:  Is your internet connection DSL (Digital subscriber Line, similar to a phone line) or is it Cable Broadband?
The reason I ask is my daughter has a high speed DSL, and I have a friend that has a low speed DSL.  Connecting to the low speed DSL gets real iffy when you get more than a couple of devices trying to connect.
In my daughter's case, we could connect one PC directly to the modem, but could not get a wireless router to connect because the wires coming into the house were "crossed".  Had a tech come out and he had it working in under an hour....
BTW:  I have Verizon FiOS, and it rocks.  We had one hardwired PC, 6 wireless laptops, 3 iPod Touch 4th gens, one iPhone4, and two Android phones connected at the same time.....
