Netgear Router AE as an signal extender and print server

I have a new wireless router(Netgear WPN 824) and a new AE and cannot get the AE going either as print server (HP PSC1500) or signal extender.
Thanks,

Hi RECloser and welcome to the Discussions
You can't use the Airport Express to extend a Netgear wireless network as Netgear routers do not support Apple's implementation of WDS.
However you can use your Airport Express as a client on your Netgear network as a print server.
You need to configure the Airport Express to join an existing wireless network.
However there may be an issue with your printer.
Use the process outlined here:
HP Printers (and others) not on compatibility list and Airport Extreme Printing

Using the HPIJS drivers.

  • Best Practises for File Sharing and Print Server on Windows Server 2012

Is it better to have File Sharing and Print Server installed on the same Windows 2012 Server ?
Or, they should be installed on 2 different Windows Servers ?
    Hussien Sherief

It will work just fine to combine them.
But most people would recommend keeping functionality separate... if the budget allows.  That whole "single point of failure" concept.  If that server dies, you've lost both of those functions.

  • Router and print server

Since I security enabled my router, my Belkin Print server won't work? Any ideas how to fix?

Your wireless print server will need to be set to the same SSID, encryption method (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.) , and key as your router.  For WEP, enter WEP "key 1"  (found in the router) into your print server, not the WEP password or passphrase.   For WPA or WPA2, enter your key (sometimes called password or passphrase) into your print server.
If you are still using an SSID of "linksys", be sure to change it to a new unique SSID in both the router and the print server, otherwise your print server might try to connect to your neighbor's router.

  • 2008 R2 PDC with DNS, File and Print Server Roles

    Hi all,
we have a brand new Canon iRA7260 setup on 2008 R2 print server, which is also our DC, DNS, DHCP and File Server with latest PCL5c drivers downloaded from Canon's website as recommended at that time by the canon technician who assembled the
machine. All our laptops and desktops are running Windows 7 64-bit and after creating a GPO everyone got connected to the printer no problem, the printer has a static IP, same subnet as the print server and PDC, printer's port has been setup to RAW
and to spool documents, driver isolation setup to default.
All users are setup for secure print, so every print job they send to the printer stays on the printer until they walk up to the machine and release it by punching in a department's pin. Everything works great except for every morning a get a few complaints
that the jobs sent to the printer did not appear in the secure print folder. There is no errors of any kind on workstations and all I see in the print job logs on the print server is that document been spooled, printed and deleted. The strange thing is that
the size of the document that disappears is always shown as 0 bytes in size and 1 page long. And the whole process of spooling printing and deleting happens within 1 second according to logs. There is no errors or warnings in the log except for informational
    events.
I just discovered that what actually fixes this issue for me is not even restarting the print spooler on the print server, but just login into the print server from my workstation via RDP with admin credentials. Once I login into the server remotely,
every print job sent to the printer afterwards from every workstation in our office appears as usual in users secure print mailboxes. Users don't even have to reboot their work stations, everything just starts working as usual. There is no overnight activities
on that server as all our staff leaves the offices by 8 p.m. the latest and the only thing that is running overnight is the Symantec's Backup Executive backup jobs. Is it possible that a back up job could somehow affect the print server/print driver settings
or put it into a "sleep" mode so it would require a domain admin login to the server to bring it back into operational state?

Hi, the print server had default permissions set after the role was installed. I just added domain users and authenticated users with print and view server rights. I don't think this is a problem though because Samsungs Brothers and Xerox printers
are working. It looks like some process that runs at night on the print server disallows users to print to the Canon printer when they come in in the morning. Login remotely with admin credentials into the 2008 R2 that has print server role installed and this
canon printer deployed via GPO fixes this immediately for all users. After the printer works fine until the last staff leaves the office. However when I come in in the morning everyone reports to me the same problem which again I'm able to fix by login with
my domain admin credentials. Could this be due to some special permissions that canon drivers require to be added that I'm not aware of? Or could this be caused by the overnight Backup Executive 2010 R3 backup job that kicks in at 9 p.m. every night?
    Thanks

  • My netgear router does not recognize my password and i cannot access it with my iphone

My Netgear DG834PN router does not recognize my user name or password when i try to access WI FI with my iphone.I cannot get wifi on my iphone from this or any router. The router is a wireless and hardwired unit.

Is your password by any chance in Hex? (all numbers or letters a through f) If so you may be able to translate the hex into ASCII or you could change to an ASCII password. I had to make that kind of change. Good luck.

  • Fabric Extender and Blade server connectivity(Cabling)

    Hi,
There is lot of information available about how a Fabric extender connects to the Fabric interconnect. e.g. SFP+ ports, cabling etc.
I am bit a confused, how does connectivity happen between the blade server and fabric extender inside the chassis.
The information available only gives us idea about the possible network cards in the blade servers.
I want to understand, how actual connectivity is done between the blade servers and fabric extenders.
Is it through some cables or anything else? Please help.

  • AirPort Utility can't find Netgear router OR new AirPort Express

    Hello,
I couldn't find my situation fully addressed in older posts, so I'm posting one myself.
I am trying to EXTEND my current network with a newly purchased AirPort Express. My equipment is as follows:
Comcast modem connected via ethernet cable to...
    Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 dual-band router
One three-year-old Mac Mini running Lion
One newer MacBook Pro running Mavericks
Two iPhone 4S, latest software updated as of Nov. 2014
Two-year-old iPad, latest software updated as of Nov. 2014
Newly purchased AirPort Express as of Nov. 2014
We have a large house with an office at the extreme end resulting in a week signal, so I need to extend my network. The Netgear router sends a strong signal otherwise, and ALL devices are working properly and are fully connected to the WIFI network.
    So here is the problem:
I've tried many, many times to connect the APE using AP Utility with only two successful connections, but these connections were to "Join Existing Network" not to extend that network, but I selected this option as it seemed closest to what I want to do since "extension" of network was not an option. Then I see that I can edit the APE within AP Utility. I've done so, resetting the unit as a network extender, and the two times I tried this I sat waiting for five minutes for the thing to update only to get an error message. At this junction I could do nothing but remove the APE in AP Utility by "forgetting" it. No other options were available that I could see.
Now, the two times I've done the above, were two times within 20+ attempts to get AirPort Utility to even see the darn thing. I've tried placing the APE near the Netgear router, moderately close (other side of room) and even at the far end of the house, and neither the APE or the Netgear router were ever found in the AP Utility save the two incidences mentioned above. I've scoured the net, rechecked all connections and performed all troubleshooting procedures I can find to no avail. All I get is a flashing amber light and no connection
A: Why won't AirPort Utility find my Netgear Router?
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility? (I do have the Negear Genie app, but I don't see options for adding a device for network extension so far)
I'm at wits end. Can anyone help?
Oh, and I've tried using AP Utility on both Macs listed above with the same results.
    Thanks for your help!

A: Why won't AirPort Utility find my Netgear Router?
AirPort Utility works only with an Apple router, as does the utility for a Netgear work only with a Netgear router.
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
Any of 3-4 common reasons. We'll have to work on troubleshooting that.
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
Apple designed the wireless "extend" feature on their routers to only work with other Apple routers.
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility?
    No
Not sure how you want to proceed at this point. It might be possible to use the AirPort Express to extend the Netgear network if you connect it using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection back to the Netgear router.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, your best bet by far is to use another Netgear extender or repeater, which would likely be compatible with your Netgear router.

  • Clamshell iBook (indigo) can't find base station (Netgear router)

My first post on this forum. Now the proud owner of an indigo Clamshell iBook (OS 9.2.2)
I am using a Netgear router DG834G, a G3 snow iMac (OS10.3.9) as the base station, and a Dell PC is connected wirelessly to that. No problems at all.
I now want to connect an indigo Clamshell G3 iBook to the base station. (in fact, I have two of them)
The iBook is using Airport and running OS 9.2.2, and shows a strong router signal. The iBook TCP/IP has automatically updated all the values using DHCP, and the Router data page shows the iBook as "Connected", as well as its IP number (192.168.0.4) which was automatically assigned by the router. There is no encryption set up yet.
If you run OS 9 you will know this part...the iBook has a pull down window called "Base stations", to add new ones, but the Netgear router is NOT shown in it, and I can't add it. The box is empty, so I guess that's why I can't connect! All I get is an error message saying "check TCP/IP setttings or password". The default base station IP address (which I keep changing to the new one) is 10.0.1.1 (why?) My Netgear router is 192.168.0.1. The previous base station IP address still comes up, and I can't change it permanently. I don't have any password when prompted, (I tried the default one "public" ) so is that the main problem or is it something else? Is there a problem with Airport and non-Apple routers. I haven't seen this problem mentioned.
It seems as if I am 99% ready for internet conection
Thanks for your help. I've spent two days at it.

  • Airport extreme 5.8 ghz with a netgear router at 2.4 ghz?

We will be getting a new imac which I would like to run wirelessly as part of a home system with two other ethernet connected macs and a wireless PC laptop. We expect to get substantial interference and would like to get the airport extreme and run it at 5.8 ghz to avoid home problems. Our current netgear, which works fine with the laptop, runs on the 2.4 spectrum. Is it possible to connect the netgear to the airport extreme and continue to use the wireless part of the netgear router/switch for the pc laptop (and avoid purchase of a new wireless card).. and have the imac at the 802.11n speed and the higher bandwidth because of the extreme router? Hope I explained this correctly. thanks.

bkenney1, Welcome to the discussion area!
Yes it is possible to operate the Netgear at 2.4 GHz while operating the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) at 5 GHz.
This is a 'dual band' network. It is discussed in the Apple documentation and in several threads in this area.

  • WRT54G and a Netgear WGPS606 Print Server

    Hi,
Am having some issues that I hoping someone can help me with.  First I have a broadband modem which is connect to my Linksys WRT54G.  I recently bought a netgear print server (WGPS606) to allow for wireless printing.
In going through the setup of the print server I assigned it a static IP (192.168.1.150) address which is outside of the DHCP pool on the Linksys router (pool of DHCP address is 192.168.1.100 - 109).  The issue is that the print when it first starts up is assigned the IP address specified however after about 5-10 minutes...the Linksys router seems to reassign its IP address to something within the DHCP pool.
I cannot seem to figure out where in the setup for the router you set up specific devices with static ip addresses.
Any help or insight into this is greatly appreciated.
    M

With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the computer or print server, not in the router.
Also, in the computer or print server, when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1 and "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1
It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.
The Linksys DHCP server does not "give out" an address unless an address is requested.  Therefore I would be suspicious that somehow the print server is requesting an address.   Usually "DHCP automatic" is automatically turned off when you setup your print server with a fixed address, but maybe, somehow, this is not happening in your print server.  If the print server has any kind of "DHCP automatic" setting, make sure it is off.  This could be a setting that you access through buttons on the print server, or through the print server setup software or setup pages.
Also, I assume you are connecting your printer to the print server using a USB cable.  If you are instead using an ethernet cable to connect your printer to the print server, then it is probably your printer that is requesting the address.   In this case, either use a USB cable, or setup the printer itself with an address outside the DHCP server range, such as 192.168.1.151
    Hope this helps.

  • Would like to print from laptop to printer at home. Printer is ethernet connected to NetGear Router

    HP PAvilion dv1000, Windows XP
Would like to print from laptop to printer at home.  Printer is ethernet connected to NetGear Router.
I had been able to print wirelessly from laptop to HP 7310 Officejet all-in-one, but now all I get is "document failed to print" message.  I can get documents to print on this printer using my smart phone, but not the laptop.
I have used "find printer" button on print screen and can see the printer to select.
    Any suggestions?

  • Networking printer with HP Laserjet and Linksys wired print server

I have an older Laserjet 4 Plus that is networked via a Linksys 3-port wired print server.
My Windows-based PCs print to it fine but I can't print with my iMac. It gets there but gets an error at the printer and never prints.
I'm new to the Mac world as of 6/16 so am still learning.
    Thanks for the help.

Paul, I am amazed you were ever able to print via the Linksys wireless server on your mac. I have the identical router and print server, and only the Windows PC's on my wireless network have been able to share the printer on that wireless server. I've been unable to find a driver for my iMac, and could never get the iMac to find the server. Finally gave up and bought an HP 2600n color laser and connected it directly to the iMac via USB. You're right about lack of help from Linksys. There is an Apple folder under "unsupported" on the print server installation CD, but there's nothing helpful in there.

  • Wireless Computer, Wireless Router, Wireless Print Server

I am having difficulty with a specific configuration trying to print wirelessly.
I have no problem printing from my iBook G4, Power Mac Dual G4 750, Dell Notebook, or Compaq Presario Desktop using this configuration: Linksys Wireless-G router and Linksys Wireless-G Print Server.
As long as the Print Server is connected to the Router via an ethernet cable, the network works fine - I can print from any computer.
The problem I am encountering comes from the fact that I now want to use the Print Server with another printer that is a seperate room from the router (I don't want to connect it with an ethernet cable). This shouldn't be a problem since it's a wireless print server.
I had always used a static IP to access and configure the router, but now that I have removed the ethernet connection I can't log in. In fact, when it is plugged into a different port on the router (via ethernet) I can't log into it either. When I reconnect it the original way, it is not problem.
Running the original install software on my PCs doesn't help either.
How can I make this work?
Can my wireless computers (e.g. iBook with Airport Extreme wireless card) talk directly to the Print Server, or does it talk to the Print Server via the wireless router?
I don't have an Airport base.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I do not think I can help you with your question however I have the same router and print server and I too have never been able to get the print server to work wirelessly. It's a real kick in the head too because the linksys tech nubs just talk you around in a circle saying that the deivce is wireless but that you have to use the wire. I don't know maybe its me...
Nonetheless I now have a mac laptop that works the the router but I can not get the powerbook to connect the the print server. I would be interested to know how you go your mac to work with you first printer.

  • Issues with Deskjet 5650 and Linksys wireless print server.

I have a iMac DP 1.8, a iMac G3 700 mhz running Tiger and a Toshiba laptop running XP and I am on a wireless network. I use a Linksys WRT54G router for the wireless and I am using a Linksys WPS54G wireless printserver to connect an HP Deskjet 5650 to the network. This was all working fine for the past 2 months until Monday evening when the Mac's lost connection to the printer. However the Toshiba can print to it just fine.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened. The iMac DP recently had a security update for intel installed this past Monday, but no updates have been installed on the G3 iMac. I have contacted Apple, HP and Linksys and they have been no help at all. Apple says it's a Linksys issue, Linksys says it's Apple issue and HP is just cluless. I would appreciate any assistance offered.
