Netgear usb adapter

Hi
I have just connected to broadband via bigpond. They sent me a netgear usb adapter for my laptop but I can't seem to get it working, I have connected via the ethernet fine. As soon as I can afford it i will get a Airport card but at this stage I would like to use the adapter untill i can afford one Please help.
Thanks in advance.
Leslie

Hi Leslie,
I don't think either of the Netgear USB adapters are Mac compatible. Your best bet is an AirPort Extreme card. Other than that the only other reliable wireless adapter would be an ethernet bridge (Linksys WET54G) but the cost is about the same as AE.

  • Problem w/ WG111v3 usb adapter

Hi, i have an iMac running 10.3.4, and have the Netgear wg311v3 usb adapter. I download the appropriate driver for Mac from Netgear's site, install and try to run. The icon appears in the dock momentarily and disappears. Needless to say it does not work or appear in the Network setup either. I have spent 8hours or so googleing and trying various poss. fixes all to no avail.
    Any thoughts ?
Ps. i have four of these iMacs to get up and running, so really need to figure this one out. Thanks in advance

Could it be, the OS X Panther may need to be updated to the last
version step for the USB drivers to be functional with the device?
The 10.3.9 Combo update, and any last security update, Java update,
last supported QuickTime, & any players (flash/shockwave) may also
be outdated, to the degree of any latent support for obsolete Panther.
The recently acquired USB driver may have a minimum requirement
in the system it could be used in; so those specs would be important
to know, and then see if your computers need to be updated first.
Also, outside of routine and periodic maintenance, which may help in
most anything to do with the OS X system in general, there may be
some conflict or issues in the status of the Panther installations.
What version and specifications of iMac (G4?) are you running?
Some third party adapters and accessories are fairly concise to
what they can be used with, and the specs should be available.
The older 800MHz iMac G4 has USB 1.1 ports, and also has
the slower built-in support for 802.11/b wireless via AirPort
when the card is available and installed.
This (Netgear) USB adapter, what is it going to be used to connect to?
Some back-checking, shows it is a wireless adapter; so it probably
has minimum OS X version support necessary to function; and
also the power to the USB port, and speed rating of the ports, is an
important consideration when using a USB peripheral.

    http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2558
You may have to look into the Console and other System Log files
and see if there is any evidence there as to what is happening in
regard to the launch and failure of the product driver or other OS X
clues; since there may be something missing in the Panther OS.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Problem with USB adapter

I have a Linksys Usb adapter to wireless connect to my Linksys router. I had been using a Netgear usb adapter but it was limited to WEP security. So I bought the Linksys G so I could go to WPA . The problem is the sometimes it doesn't want to connect. Especially if you have to re-boot a couple of times. Is there anything that can be done?

Click start >> all programs >> Linksys wireless G adapter >> click uninstall >>
Unplug the adapter >> insert the disc for the adapter >> exit out of set up wizard >> replug the adapter back >> Install only the drivers of adapter ....
See above settings helps or not ....

  • I have an Imac G4 and would like to install USB adapter for wireless internet connectivty. Is this possible with my system ?

I have an iMac G4 and I am wondering if i could connect it wirellesly to an existing router I have for a PC, using an internet USB adapter ? Would my system be compatible with such hardware ?

    Thanks RC for your reply.
My router is a Netgear WGR614 v8. Not sure what the encryption is, but i wantto say 128 bit.

  • MacMini with Wireles-N USB adapter

Guys, I want to up-speed my MacMini from Wireless G to N. Not to keep on ripping it apart to install a N card and then loose the warranty. Thus, was considering installing a Wireless N USB adapter (and disable the on-board adapter). I was thinking about the nNano from QuickerTek. Has any of you had success with doing just this (with the QuickerTek or another brand of adapter)?
    Thanks

  • Will a 802.11ac USB adapter work on IdeaPad U530?

I recently purchased an IdeaPad U530.  Around the same time, I purchased a NetGear Nighthawk AC 1900 Dual Ban (R7000) router.  All of my other devices connect no problem to the 5ghz wifi network from the router.  I realized the 5ghz band didn't show up on my U530, but the 2.4 ghz network appears.
I did some investigation and found my new Lenovo laptop has a 7260 b/g/n card.  I thought, "That will be a simple fix, I will just replace it with an AC card."  Then I read:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/IdeaPad-u530-upgrade-to-802-11ac/td-p/13106...
       and
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/General-Discussion/WWAN-and-wireless-card-BIOS-whitelists-Lenovo-COME-O...
That was when I "unhappily" learned about Lenovo's "whitelists" for the first time.  I'm shocked that in 2014 I simply can't replace the wifi card in a laptop.  Had I learned about this sooner, the Lenovo would have gone back to BestBuy on principle.
I'm a basic user and I don't have the technical skill or time to deal with flashing BIOS, etc. . . so I have three questions.
    1.  Will the Lenovo U530 allow me to use one of the 802.11ac USB adapters?
    2.  Any recommendations on which USB adapter to use?
    3.  Do I have to deactivate the Intel 7260 card before using the USB adapter?  If so, how do I do that?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1.  Will the Lenovo U530 allow me to use one of the 802.11ac USB adapters?
IMHO why not? I use a usb dual wifi adapter myself although it's only a,b,g,n. It is more efficient than the built-in card.
    2.  Any recommendations on which USB adapter to use?
Try going to Netgear's site and look for an AC dual band usb adapter to match your Netgear AC router.
    3.  Do I have to deactivate the Intel 7260 card before using the USB adapter?  If so, how do I do that?
To avoid getting the system confused and make the setup of the usb adapter easier I think you can disable wifi in the bios. You will still have bluetooth functioning.

  • Connection constantly dropping with edimax ew-7612uan USB adapter

    Hi there,
I have just installed a newly purchased edimax ew-7612uan USB wireless adapter, the problem that I'm getting is that the connection works fine on boot however it keeps dropping very frequently.
This can be reset by running netctl restart my-network. which is a temporary fix but I can't keep on doing this every 5 minutes or so when the connection drops.
I don't think there is a problem with the USB adapter as it appears to work fine in windows (I don't work fine with windows though!).
The same problem has happened on both of my Arch computers... I don't use any other distributions so I don't know if this is an arch specific problem or a general Linux problem. It also happens when using the live disk.
The old adapter is still installed in the box but once I can get this one working properly it will be removed.

If there is anything else I can provide that may help please ask, this has been driving me mad for days now!

Looks like a driver bug. You could try multiple things, as a start:
    - switch channel
    - toggle encryption
    - different usb port

You can only add songs to your iOS device from iTunes via Wi-Fi sync or via your cable, not Bluetooth.

That's an entirely different issue, unrelated to your iOS devices.

Can I connect my Apple TV to the Blu-Ray using an HDMI/ USB adapter?
If you can find such a thing.  I really doubt that exists since USB is a data connector not a video connector.
would allow me to run the audio through my stereo.
That would depend on this adapter.

  • I recently purchased an Onkyo stereo receiver with a wireless USB adapter, UWF-1, and want to stream audio from my MacBook Pro through my stereo system. The receiver tells me it is connected to my wireless LAN, but I cannot get music to play?

New to the community here, thanks for your patience.  I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver with the UWF-1 USB adapter with the intent to stream audio from my MacBook Pro to the stereo. I have gone through the setup instructions for the adapter and the receiver gives me a message saying that it is connected to the password protected network, but that is as far as I can get.
I have gone into iTunes and clicked on the "Open Stream" option, but I just get a pop up box labeled "URL" that is empty. I have Home Sharing turned on and File Sharing turned on, but I am not seeing the receiver in my Finder window or as a iTunes device.
I would appreciate any and all advice and assistance.
    Thanks so much.

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

  • Problem Printing to HP laserjet 4 plus via a parallel-usb adapter

This generic parallel-usb adapter cable worked fine on a Sony laptop printing to HP laserjet 4 plus, but when I tried to do the same with the Mac book pro (2.4 ghz mac 10.4.10), the printer is recognized and it prints but only in a faded fashion (as if it is draft printing). I looked in the control panel on the printer and tried to make a couple adjustments, but that didn't help. The cable's page said it had mac 8.2 or whatever support. It did come with some drivers disc but it is too small to work in the mac (not a standard size cd).
I would apreciate some help in this matter.

    Hi Moorty
    Hi wm300
I have connected a HP LaserJet 4L to Mac OS X 10.3.9 using a Keyspan parallel to USB adaptor cable. You will require the same hardware setup. It is more than a connector, the cable it has a small converter card in it.
    Keyspan parallel USB printer adaptor
You already have such a similar cable.
Your problem seems to be the right driver.
remove the printer then Add it again and decide which driver you want to use.
Your model HP will work with the drivers available in OS X, HP LaserJet 4MP, or the old driver downloaded from the HP website for the LJ4/4M will also work.
A new driver for it will also work available here
    http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/
So once connected to a USB port, your Mac will see it, load the right driver, and the printer should work.

  • Will it work with R500? Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-300N 600mW USB Adapter.

Hi all, new to this site and also to owning a laptop. Bought what I believe to be 2009 Thinkpad R500. It works well with windows 7 installed. I bought it  so that I could stream music in my shop connected to my stereo. I sometimes think I should have maybe save up a little more and bought a new laptop. Paid $200 for it. Anyway I was wondering if anyone could tell if the item below will work with my laptop? My thoughts are to some time in the near future to also install an outdoor wifi antenna on my house. One thing I did notice in my shop which confused me a little was when I had my laptop and my wife's laptop down in my shop, her signal strength was around 20 mbps and mine only showed 13 mbps. Any ideas to why?
Add Long Range Wi-Fi to your Computer: Whether you're using a Mac or Windows laptop or desktop PC, the UA600 attaches to an available USB port (2 USB ports for maximum performance) on your computer and provides long range Wi-Fi connectivity for connecting to your home Wi-Fi network or a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Maximum Wi-Fi Range: The internal High Power 600mW Amplifier (12x the power of standard adapters) is optimally paired with a High Power 5dBi Wi-Fi antenna to provide maximum wireless range and performance.
Simple Setup: Setup is quick and simple: Insert the installation CD, install the software and plug in the High Power USB Adapter.
Great for Power Users: The High Power USB Adapter is designed for Wi-Fi users that demand the most from their Wi-Fi networks. The UA600 features wireless data reception speeds of up to 300Mbps for streaming video, transferring large data files and other high traffic Wi-Fi activities.
Upgradable Antenna for More Wi-Fi Range: The High Power USB Adapter features a detachable antenna that can be replaced with an indoor or outdoor high gain antenna for even more Wi-Fi range or for special installation applications.
Universal Compatibility: The High Power USB Adapter works great with all 2.4GHz 802.11b/g or n wireless routers, Wi-Fi networks and manufacturers.

Your machine as it left the factory:
    P8600(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1280x800 LCD, Intel 4500MHD, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint Reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro
I'm going to take a stab in the dak that the card is Intel 5100AGN, which *should* support both bands. That's what my own R500 came with.
Depending on the amount of $$ that you want to spend on a router, there are many possible options. I'd suggest checking out the recommendations from various broadband forums.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • I'm using a micro sd card inside USB adapter but it won't mount on my Macbook Air 2012

    Hi everyone,
Really puzzled at the moment because I just purchased a Kingston 64GB Class 10 Micro SD card and it came with a USB adapter to plug into my mac. The problem is that it won't mount, I just get a pop up saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." I open up Disk Utilty and I get the following info:
    Mount Point : Not mounted
    Partition Type : Windows_FAT_32
    Capacity : 67.11 GB (67,107,815,424 Bytes)
Everything else is blank. Does anyone know what Windows_FAT_32 is and how I can get my Micro SD card to work on my Mac? Also note that when I plug it into a Windows PC, it loads up fine and my Macbook Air is also running OSX Yosemite Dev Preview 6. Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated

Yes, you will not be signed in to update iCloud content, until you update your Apple ID on both devices.  On the iPhone you will need to go into your settings>iCloud then tap your iCloud ID to sign out then sign in with your new Apple ID, on the Macbook you need to go into your system preferences then tap iClould sign out then sign in with your new Apple ID.

  • I am trying to dowload pictures onto my macbook pro, but it wont read the USB adapter were all the photos are on?

Hey guys i got a macbook pro and this is the first incident that has happended to me sence i got it i cant figure out why it wont let me download pictures off my usb adapter it wont read it? help

So from your description, the drive isn't mounting on the desktop?
Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities), and see if the drive appears in the left pane. If it does, but it's greyed out, highlight it and wait for a few seconds - eventually the Mount button should become live - click it and see if that clears the problem.
If not, it's possible that the drive has been damaged, usually by removing it without unmounting (ejecting) it first.
If you have access to a Windows machine, it may be possible to mount it on there, eject it properly and try again on the Mac. This has been known to work reasonably frequently.

  • Install problems USB Adapter Card support 1.4.41 to Mac OS 8.6

I did this years ago when I had a PM6500 running 8.6 & added a USB PCI card, but know I didn't have the problem you are having.
When I downloaded from the link you provided, I got this file USBCard_Support1.4.1.smi.bin. After using Stuffit Expander, I got this file +USB Card Support 1.4.1.smi+, which is the installer. I don't have a Mac running 8.6, so I can't try the install.
Suggest you do this. Put the smi.bin file in a folder on your desktop & then uncompress using Stuffit. This will yeild the .sim file. Then double click the .sim file. Did you get the message "+Please insert the disc: USB Adapter Card Support+" when you double clicked the .sim file? Or some other file?
When you downloaded the smi.bin file did you use a Mac or a PC & then put on a Zip disc? What computer did you use to uncompress to get the .sim file?
