Netgear WGT624 Wireless Router

AE works fine with Security Disabled. Want to go WEP. When I do, AE is not recognized in AE Admin Utility or cannot it be scanned. How do I set up encrypted network and get AE recognized?

Of course it doesn't work. Those installation CDs are Windows only and you don't need them anyway.
All you need to do is log into the router and enable the wireless. Enter "http://192.168.1.1" in your browser's address line and you will be in the router's setup. If it asks for a password, the default username is "admin" and the default password is either "password" or "1234."
On the left side of the page is a nav bar and you should see under "Setup" an entry for "Wireless Settings." Click that and you get the options to enable it. Choose either WEP or WPA and create a password.
Then on your Mac, open sys prefs and select "network." Highlight "Airport" and then click "configure." Add your password that you created in your router and you are set. You call also highlight "network" and then click "assist me" and your Mac will walk you through the setup.
Now you might need to tweak settings for performance based on your ISPs preferences, but we can do that after you get the connection established.

I just installed a Netgear wireless router and am trying to setup the AE to play music on my home stereo. For some reason when I connect the AE to the outlet close to my living room home stereo, the Airport setup Assistant doesn't recognize my base station. I don't know what to do. Do you have any wireless encryption activated on your Netgear Wireless Router? If so, you should disable it, then your wireless router should be able to connect to your AE. Then configure your AE to match your security settings of your wireless router, then finally re-activate the wireless security on your router.
(Make sure you select "Join an exisiting wireless network" when configuring the AE, enter the data carefully to match the security information in your router.
Once you re-activate your wireless security in your router and restart the AE, it should join your network.

Can I Show Time Connected When Using Netgear DG834 Wireless Router ?

When I had an old SpeedTouch USB Modem I could see the time I had been connected to the internet from a readout in the menu along the top of the monitor.
Is there a way of displaying or ascertaining this information using the Netgear DG834 wireless router?
I have discovered that by opening the Router Satus and clicking on "Connected Status" I can get a window displaying this info - but is there a quicker "automatic" way of doing it?

Interesting one…
When you connect via a USB modem the computer is 'doing' the connecting using the modem so the computer has the 'time connected' status available locally. In the case of a router it is connected to the internet irrespective of the computer's status; on, off, sleep, or even, connected to the router. The only way you're going to get the info is from the router itself and, unless it has a setting whereby it will automatically 'inform' the computer of its connected time, I think you're going to have to carry on as you are.
I don't know that particular Netgear but used to have a different one until a thunderstorm fried it. I don't remember it having such a setting. My current Belkin certainly hasn't.
I'm quite interested to know why you want this info. Are you on some kind of PAYG tariff?

I need to know how to connect to internet using the netgear n150 wireless router

I recently signed up with comcast internet. They supplied a NETGEAR N150 wireless router. After following instructions that came with router, I still cannot use the router to connect to the internet. The computer has to be connected directly to the modem for internet access. HELP!!!!

Connecting Westell 6100G to Netgear n300 Wireless Router

I've just purchased a netgear n300 wireless router. My question is would I defintely need to set the Westell 6100G modem to bridge mode? After I do that I simply connect the wireless router to the modem and then the router to the computer via one of the ports? After that is done would I need to do anything else? Would I be asked for my verizon login and password in order to get connected?

It's recommended to bridge your modem as the modem itself does have an integrated router, even though it only has one Network port to connect up with. You have to split it up using a switch if you wish to really use it as a wired router. The reason why you bridge is so that your router holds your Public IP address rather than the modem. This avoids a condition known as "Double NAT" which game consoles dislike, VPNs tend to be iffy with, and Port Forwarding becomes a pain to do as you have to do it twice.
Yes, Bridge the modem. As far as the Netgear is concerned, if your modem reports that it is using PPPoE, the Username and Password you will need to use will be the master login you use for your DSL account. In the Netgear, it will auto detect that you use PPPoE in most circumstances however, it won't automatically pull your username and password. In some cases it may just connect right up if Verizon still does OpenPPPoE. Otherwise, if you're using a Setup program that came with the router it should ask you for your username or password to connect up. If not, Netgear has changed their firmware around in recent years, but in most cases it is under the Basic Setup or "Internet" section of your router for adding in a PPPoE username and password. The best place to look for this would be the user guide for your router. It should detail how to set up your connection based on what you're using.

I just purchased the newer Airport Express (new) and am having issues using it in client mode with my Netgear N150 wireless router. All I want to use it for is streaming itunes from my aluminum macbook to my home stereo system, wirelessly.
I have followed the instructions that came with the device. No luck. I have followed the instructions that describe plugging it into an ethernet cable here:

With the apple instructions linked above it would connect fine to my existing wireless network, using airport utility, with 'excellent' connection, but when I tried to switch in itunes to my device from my computer i get the pinning wheel and an 'unknown error' occurs.
I have setup a new wireless account and password on my router as desribed at this page, but do get confused when it tells me to use the hex key and $. Haven't worked that out yet. Any advice would be appreciated if this would help.

At best, after hard resetting the device several times, and following the instructions above at macworld, it now finds the device but only plays one blip second of a song, flashing amber from solid green, sometimes playing a second blip of a song, then pausing the song and switching to a flashing amber. By restarting my computer or opening AirPort utiliy I am able to find it again, but it either only plays one second of a song and drops again or turns green and is not able to be found at all by itunes (the button doesn't show up in the menu).
This is the second airport I have tried in 2 years. I purchased a used one and had nearly the exact same issues with a linksys router. Then it would play an album but reset if a song was paused.I had to hard reset it nearly every time i wanted to stream from itunes to my stereo. I assumed it was broken and sent it back. Figured I 'd give it a new go around with a new unit since i just moved into a new house and am now shocked at how difficult it is to set up. I have never had this many issues with an apple device.
My questions:
1) How can I set this up with my existing router? What am I doing wrong?! Why is it so difficult?
2) If not possible, what routers are compatible? I would gladly get a new router in order to stream music to my stereo from ITunes.

Try temporarily disabling the Windows 7 firewall, and then, try accessing the AirPort with the AirPort Utility again.

Something happened to my Netgear wgu624 wireless router

I have a Netgear WGU624 wireless router that seems to have stopped working today. I had my cable modem connected to it and it was creating a wireless network for my three computers.
I had to switch to plugging the ethernet cable directly from my cable modem into my macpro so I could get online.
I'm not sure what the problem is with the router but I don't seem to remember the a & g lights blinking before like they are now. I tried plugging the an ethernet cable directly from my router into the second ethernet port on my macpro (with the cable modem plugged into port 1) to see if I could access the router by going to 192.168.1.1. No luck, the browser says "failed to open page".
Is there some way to check to see if the router is bad? We did have a storm today. Everything else is fine though...
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Need help setting up Airport Express A1084 in Windows 7 via Netgear WNDR4500 wireless router

Hello All. I bought a used Airport Express A1084 off the net. Never had one before. My intention is to remotely control (via my iPhone using Apples Remote app or possibly XBMC) a "pc with music" and stream thru the AE connected to a boombox. I want to be able to take AE and boombox to the front yard, back yard, garage, or wherever my Netgear WNDR4500 will reach.
So far I have hit the reset on the AE and while holding, plugged it in to power (still holding) until the green light blinked. I let it go. Waited for it to complete booting (slow blinking yellow/amber light). The AE did not show up in Airport Utility ver 5.6.1. I uninstalled that version and installed older Airport Utility ver 5.4.2. Same results. I power cycled the router, turned off the Norton 365 firewall, and still get nothing. At one point though, I walked away for a while (an hour or so), came back and saw the AE listed in the left window pane of Airport Utility. I thought maybe I just didn't wait long enough so I clicked Manual Setup and it started to read the AE but Errored 10057. I tried again and got same error. I refreshed and the AE was gone.
Can someone tell me how to correct this so I can confirm I didn't buy a "brick"?

Just so you are aware, the A1084 AirPort Express is a 802.11b/g wireless router that can only operate on the 2.4 GHz band. Regardless, it can be configured to join the wireless network provided by the Netgear as long as that network is configured to be backwards compatible with 802.11g clients. However, in the long run for performance, you do NOT want any non-"n" wireless clients connecting to your Netgear's network.
The 5.6.1 version of the AirPort Utility for Windows does not support the non-"n" version of the AirPort base stations. You would need to use an earlier version that will still run on Windows 7.
One thing to try would be to temporarily connect the Express directly to your PC using an Ethernet cable, and then, try accessing it with the AirPort Utility. If you are still unable to do so, you may have gotten yourself a defective unit.

I have an other notebook too with a USB wireless and that is working fine.
I have been able to connect to the router via the ethernet card.
Been onto Netgear, and the router is working well.

I assume that your notebook use the Intel 2200BG wireless card.
You will find many questions and issues with this intel card.
Mostly the graphic driver update will solve such issues.
You can also check the power save mode settings in the wireless card properties. Go to the device manager, choose the wireless card and go into the properties. In the second tab Advanced you should find the option Power save mode. Please set it to off (disable)
I dont know where you have download the driver but you should use the newest version from the Intel website.

This is extremely unlikely. The AirPort Extreme can provide this function with other Apple routers, but as far we know, it is not compatible with products from other manufacturers for this purpose.
Suggest that you use a Netgear product for the best chance of compatibility.

Setting Up Security For A NETGEAR DG834G Wireless Router?

During the past week I have connected both my Macs to my new Netgear router with Ethernet cables.
My son, in another part of the house, connects wirelessly. It took a few hours (off and on) to connect his Windows Laptop to the internet and finally get his email working.
When we initially set it up, the router was broadcasting its name to the world.
I have now switched off the broadcasting of the name.
What level of security is this?
Are my 2 wired-in computers fairly safe?
I believe that his transmissions could be picked up, but as he has no financial or sensitive material I don't think that would be too serious - or would it?
We live in a quiet cul-de-sac where any strange people or cars would be noticed immediately, so we are probably not so vulnerable to wireless-hackers as others might be. Or am I living in a "fool's paradise"?
The Netgear has details of numerous security systems that can be enabled, but as with most computer instructions they are written for experts saying WHAT it can do and not for beginners saying HOW to do it?
Does anyone know where I might be able to get hold of some reasonably simple, step by step instructions.
I am hesitant to go ahead on my own as I am worried that I might mess-up the internet connection I have struggled so hard to achieve!

As a general statement, wireless networks are inherently insecure.

If this is all you have done, roughly speaking, your network is just as
(in)secure as it was when you plugged in the router.
Do you have file or printer sharing turned on? Are your Mac firewalls
stealthed and refusing UDP packets? Will the router accept any inbound
request for an internet connection? Have you changed the default password
on the router?
The answers to these questions speak to the relative (in)security of your
Macs.

Yes, and here's why.

I was going to suggest reading the router's manual, but it is pure and utter
fertilizer. Looks as though a marketroid (who knows some buzzwords but
not their meanings) patched that monstrosity together using the user
menu storyboard walk-through and a lot buzzword-laden filler "lifted"
from the Web.
Would it be humanly possible to run an ethernet cable from your router to
where your son computes and turn off the wireless?
Since I don't own one, I can't help with a primer on securing it. Sorry.
