Netinfo manager file in application,

OS is Franco, I want to access the Netinfo manager file in application, what is the franco equivalent to activate the admin or root account
PB

Ah.
Is this what you are looking for? You access it through System Preferences; you will need to click the padlock and give an admin account password to make changes. Or there is Network Utility in Applications/Utilities, but I think that can be run from any account. If you really need root access (almost never!) see this article.

  • Who are all these "users" in my Netinfo Manager file, local?

I am looking at my MAC's Utilities file: Netinfo Manager, local @ localhost, users. Who are all these "users" such as "nobody" , "unknown", "tokend" etc. ? I understand that I should NOT remove things from this file, but what SHOULD be listed in this file? Where do these "users" come from? Could some "users" have been placed there maliciously?

There can be several user accounts that are not associated to someone logging in. The default accounts built in to the system are daemon, nobody, root, unknown, and www, and there can be others depending on what is running on your system (some background processes run as a "user") - for example, appserver, windowserver, securityagent, mysql, jabber, clamxav, etc. You can check the property values of the user (for example, "realname") to get more information.

  • Without NetInfo Manager I have to use IP address instead of computer name

Great. [/sarcasm] Removing NetInfo Manager from Leopard has just made my life a lot harder. Back with 10.4 I simply used NetInfo Manager (after a little research) to add what were basically HOSTS file entries for all the computers in our extended private network that I need to remote control.
I would use a software VPN to connect to the private network side of my client's office:
    * Cisco VPNClient (software VPN) Version 4.9.01
...and then use remote control to connect to the servers I need to work with:
    * Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection for Mac - Version 1.0.3
Given that the software VPN disables other communications like... DNS lookups... then you're forced to manually enter the lookups yourself into the HOSTS file. Given that OS X 10.4 had NetInfo Manager then that wasn't necessarily a problem. Over time, I entered all the machines I had to talk to.
After my upgrade last night to OS X 10.5 I now find that it's removed those entries, removed my access to the HOSTS file and even changed completely the mechanism behind-the-scenes. The help system suggests reading up on Open Directory administration.
I've tried a variety of work-arounds and none work, given the software VPN restrictions as combined with Apple's complete removal of what I originally put into my HOSTS file.
*So now I have to memorize all the IP addresses of all the private machines I routinely connect to.* This is stupid and frankly ridiculous from a company that's supposed to have a simple interface for its users. If I am to enter these values again manually I need to now become a UNIX geek somehow to figure out how to manipulate some entry system. I now run the risk of accidentally rebooting the wrong server if I use the wrong IP address.

I eventually found the wiki page on NetInfo Manager... which had a bibliographical reference to a page that yields the following how-to:
    Finder - Applications - Utilities - Terminal:
To add a HOSTS file entry (effectively) for the host name "www1" to the IP address "10.1.1.1":
sudo dscl localhost -create /Local/Default/Hosts/www1 IPAddress 10.1.1.1
    To delete it again:
    sudo dscl localhost -delete /Local/Default/Hosts/www1
You'll need the root password when prompted.

  • Netinfo manager

    Hello
Our IT dept doesn't like macs. The art dept. managed to get 13 Power Mac G5. I have configured them to allow active direcotry users to login to macs. When they have logged in they automatically get their network storage on the desktop great. However IT doesn't want "bloated" art mac files on the network so one of the Power Macs has an enormous 250 gig hard disk. I have been able to auto mount the hard disk on the other machines using netinfo manager. However it appears in the /Network/ folder, according to this page http://www.bombich.com/mactips/automount.html that is the best I can do. I am wondering if anyone here can think of a way round this to make the Work network share appear on the desktop. I have alread tried making the dir option in netinfo manager /Volumes and ~/Desktop any other ideas greatfully received.

Hold down the Option and Command keys while dragging the share onto the desktop, or open the Terminal application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following:
ln -s drag network share into Terminal ~/Desktop/
Press Enter; a link to the network share should then appear on your desktop. The l in the command is a lowercase L.

  • Cannot manage files or folders both ways on network

I have recently added a intel iMac to my network and I am having trouble managing files in both directions. From my of mac mini I can delete move add etc files on the intel iMac but I cannot do it the other way around. I have identical settings on both units can anyone suggest what is wrong. When I try and delete a file on the mac mini I am told i do not have sufficient privileges but as I am the administrator do not know what else I need.
    Thanks
    Peter

Sorry, I kind of glossed over these possible strategies, but it was somewhat intentional - AFP problems are gaining notoriety for being tough to troubleshoot and where the problem is poorly defined, a lot of time can be spent pursuing dead ends so I thought I would just mention them, while cutting to the chase and saying that reinstallation has eliminated the problem for many users. By being careful to choose the appropriate options, user's files need not be affected (provided nothing goes wrong). Unfortunately, while reinstalling may work, it does nothing to shed light on the underlying problem so that it can be properly isolated, reported, and ultimately fixed. But it isn't clear whether the problems Intel users are experiencing are due to something misconfigured, or if there is actually something wrong with the installation.
But anyway, re: creating new users, I was thinking in terms of creating a new user (via "System Preferences" > "Accounts") on the Intel Mac. Trying "admin" vs "non-admin" might also make a difference.
Resetting the "NetInfo" database might be considered an "advanced" method. On a fresh machine, there should be very little impact although user accounts will have to be recreated (their data should not be affected). On an established machine, various customizations (groups, sharepoints, users installed by applications, etc.) may be lost. When recreating users, make sure to use the same short name that they originally had. If they can be created in the same order that they were originally, even better. There are instructions here for resetting "NetInfo", but it doesn't cover recreating users:

The so called "combo" updaters are more complete installer packages that replace or update more files than an incremental / "delta" updater, and allow minor intermediate updates to be skipped - eg. you could go directly from 10.4.4 listed in your profile, to the most recent 10.4.8 using the 10.4.8 "Combo" updater. If there is a reason why you need to stick with 10.4.4, the 10.4.4 "Combo" updater could be applied. Since the "combo" updaters are more thorough, they often end up replacing bad files that might be missed by an incremental update. They can be downloaded from Apple - be sure to choose an appropriate version (OS X version, client vs server, Intel vs PPC)

  • What is the 10.5 replacement app for NetInfo Manager in 10.4?

Am reasonably sure I'm having user/permission issues ( apps blowing up when printing or saving a file ), (unknown user) populating many getinfo windows. Clean install of 10.5/1/2, then dragging over files from my old account ( 10.4.11, files rescued by Data RescueII ) ) to new drive. Much screwey-ness ensues...
Anyway, I'm thinkin' that a trip through NetInfo Manager would do the trick, ( realign User/Group ID's, etc. ) - but no can find. Is there a central place to this in 10.5? Or is 10.5 not quite fully baked yet...?
    jeff

    Jeff,
No, there's no Netinfo Manager. The closest thing to it is Directory Utility.app, but it doesn't handle users and groups like NM did.
There is a command line application to manipulate users and groups, but it is not well documented at this time. A better, GUI alternative is to download and install the OS X Server Tools, and use the Workgroup Manager utility (yes, it works perfectly well on OS X client).
However, your problem has nothing to do with "wonky" groups, but rather incorrect group ownership. You don't need to mess with the database, but rather you need to correct the ownership of the files. First, a bit about Leopard...
In recent versions of OS X (as you probably know), a paradigm has been in place where users are given a unique group based on their short name and UID. For whatever reasons, Apple has backpedaled on this, and users have now been returned to the "staff" group, globally. Given the fact that we are now securely in the realm of ACLs, instead of traditional POSIX permissions, this makes a lot of sense.
The problem, though, is that files and folders migrated from an earlier system will, in many cases, retain the old group ownership, and Leopard has no way to recognize such. Thus, the dreaded "unknown" group. Fortunately, this can easily be corrected with a simple, but carefully-applied command in Terminal:
    <pre style="overflow:auto; font-family: 'Monaco'; font-size: 10px">sudo chown -R username:staff /some_directory</pre>
In the above command, you must replace "username" with your own short name (or that of the user to whom you wish to grant ownership). For the "/some_directory" variable, I would recommend just dragging the folder in question into the Terminal window from the Finder. Just make sure that you do not change the ownership of any system files, and everything should be fine.
When you press <RETURN> after typing this command, you will be asked for your admin password. Enter it (it will not be echoed) and again press <RETURN>.

  • Open hub error when generating file in application server

    Hi, everyone.
I'm trying to execute an open hub destination that save the result as a file in the application server.
The issue is: in production environment we have two application servers, XYZ is the database server, and A01 is the application server. When I direct the open hub to save file in A01 all is working fine. But when I change to save to XYZ I´m getting the following error:
    >>> Exception in Substep Start Update...
Message detail: Could not open file "path and file" on application server
    Message no. RSBO214
When I use transaction AL11, I can see the file there in XYZ filesystem (with data and time correspondent to execution), but I can´t view the content and size looks like be zero.
Possible causes I already checked: authorization, disk space, SM21 logs.
We are in SAP BW 7.31 support package 6.
Any idea what could be the issue or where to look better?
    Thanks and regards.
    Henrique Teodoro

    Hi, there.
Posting the resolution for this issue.
SAP support give directions that solved the problem. No matter in which server (XYZ or A01) I logon or start a process chains, the DTP job always runs in A01 server, and it causes an error since the directory doesn´t exist in server XYZ.
This occurs because DTP settings for background job was left blank. I follows these steps to solve the problem:
    - open DTP
    - go to "Settings for Batch Manager"
    - in "Server/Host/Group on Which Additional Processes Should Run" I picked the desired server
    - save
After that, no matter from where I start the open hub extraction, it always runs in specified server and saves the file accordingly.
    Regards.

  • Using NetInfo Manager to change GUID

    Hello,
I recently became aware that you can change an active users guid with netinfo manager. Having done this on my own computer, I am now running into a problem where the users files are no longer owned by them, since the guid has changed. What is the correct method of changing the owner of only the users files to the "new" owner, so things such as a users desktop, preferences, and dock are not lost.
    Thanks,
    James

  • File explorer application and reader folder xperia

can you please explain what and where these are and how to access them, thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
I think there’s no “file explorer application and reader folder xperia”!
There’s only an app named “File transfer”…
or  you can use “file explorers” of other apps (like OfficeSuite, if available, to navigate on folders…)
The only real solution, is to download an app from Play Store.
I use “File Manager”(Explorer) or “File Manager HD”(Tablet) (Rhythm Software) free.

  • Re Editing Media Manager Files

I worked on a project a few years back and now need to go back in to my files and re edit something... is it possible to re edit something using my media manager files? I've been able to re import the MM files but whenever I touch the footage or try and do anything FC freezes. Thanks!

Todd, is this an old project with archived media or a new project with archived media? what codec(s) are the clips and what codec is the current sequence set for? you are now working on a G5/InteMac ( ? ) with FCP 5.1.2 (5.2 never existed) ... what hardware/software version were you using when the files were archived? how complex is your sequence, how many sequences do you have open and how much RAM do you have? sorry but we'll only figure out the problem with the copious application of pertinent details.
    Cheers

  • (9I) OMF(ORACLE MANAGED FILES)

ORACLE SERVER
(9I) OMF(ORACLE MANAGED FILES)
    ==============================================
    PURPOSE
    - Oracle Managed Files, Delete Datafiles, Default Temporary Tablespace.
    Explanation
    1. Oracle Managed Files (OMF)
Control File, Online Redo Log File, Data File
    1) Benefits of Oracle Managed Files
Portable Application
    2) Oracle Managed File Configurations
DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST : data file
DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n : online redo log와 control file들이 위치하게
    Note :
    Note : DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST 파라미터는 정의되어 있지만 DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n
(Data Files, Control Files,
    3) Oracle Managed File Name Structure
    Control Files : ora_%u.ctl
    Redo Log Files : ora_%g_%u.log
    Data Files : ora_%t_%u.dbf
    Temporary Data Files : ora_%t_%u.tmp
    Note :
%u is an 8 character string that guarantees uniqueness.
%t is the tablespace name, truncated if necessary.
%g is the redo log file group number.
ora_ identifies the file as an Oracle Managed File.
    4) Managing Control Files with OMF
DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n에 정의된 디렉토리에 Control File이 기본적으로
    Control File
    5) Managing Online Redo Log Files with OMF
    수 있다.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE ADD LOGFILE;
Note : 이 경우 해당 redo log file은 DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n에 정의된
    DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST 디렉토리에 생성된다.
    삭제된다.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE DROP LOGFILE GROUP 3;
Note : Archived Log File은 OMF일 수 없다.
    6) Managing Tablespaces with OMF
아래와 같이 테이블스페이스를 생성하면 DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST에 정의된
    (Autoextend On, Unlimited Restriction)
    SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE TBS1;
    SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE TBS1 DATAFILE SIZE 400M AUTOEXTEND OFF;
    SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE TBS1 ADD DATAFILE;
    삭제된다.
    SQL> DROP TABLESPACE TBS1;
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST = '/disk2/oradata/';
    다음과 같이 하면 된다.
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST = '';
    Example
    As SYSTEM
    DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST 파라미터 값 정의
    SQL> alter session set db_create_file_dest='/d02/ora9i/oracle/dbs/ora9i/tbs_omf';
    - OMF를 이용한 테이블스페이스 생성 : 크기가 10M인 두 개의 데이터 화일 자동 생성
    SQL> host ls -l /d02/ora9i/oracle/dbs/ora9i/tbs_omf
    total 0

  • Change uid and home directory locations?  - no more netinfo manager?

    greetings,
just setting up my new MBpro with 10.5... i've discovered netinfo manager is no longer here... searched the discussion forum and have learned a little. i looked into the "directory utility", but don't see how to use it for configuring local user info... (seems to be primarily focused on network services, such as ldap)...
i keep 2 accounts on my computer - personal account for home use and work account for when i need to use my laptop for work. for my work account i need to set my UID to match that of our servers (suns)... i nfs mount suns, and access servers, etc. without the same UID, i don't have access to my network files when locally mounted... also i keep my home directories on a second partition and need to change the location of the home directory... all of these were relatively straight forward in netinfo manager.... but i have no idea where to access the configuration info that was in netinfo manager...
is there some kind of additional software i have to install?
    i'd appreciate any suggestions-
    thanks-

    great! thanks!!
ps - besides the fact that i can get my own unique environments and keep my work life separate from my personal live on my home computer by making separate accounts, the 2nd account always gives me a way to test things and change things for an account without being logged into it... even if i didn't want to make a user account for my job on my personal computer, i'd still keep an alternate account for testing things and as a backdoor to fix problem in my primary account... i've always loved unix since i first started using it in 85... an i'm SO glad that apple made the switch to unix, albeit a little later than was good for them. i think it is undeniably better for the users, the administrators, and even apple... the mac is quite a joy to use these days, IMHO... • NetInfo Manager - strange behaviors - Local DNS

So I'm trying to set up local dns to a remote host that is using name based hosting.
I went into netinfo manager - went into machines - created an entry for the ip_address, name, and serves properties. I repeated this process 3 times on this machine. 2 of the sites work just fine... the third does not. Double checked the settings on server and client. Looks ok.
Flushed lookupd, reset safari, etc. Still no luck. 3rd one doesn't work.
Tried on a linux box in the same network - added to hosts file "[ip address] [domain] [domain2] [domain3] ... works fine... all three visible.
Hopped on the Xserve (which has not accessed any previously) - would not work for 3rd site.
Any idea why this would act up?

    lookupd(8)
manpage it discusses how to do what your looking for.
    Hey Andy,
Unfortunately, man lookupd was like greek, for the most part, since I don't do that much Unix. And the warnings about reordering the lookup order was ominous, since I'm not an expert.
But I was able to accomplish my server lookup before DNS... by adding a line in the hosts file in etc, using sudo in Tiger (sudo not needed in Panther). I put the IP and server name under broadcasthost and before ::1 localhost.
    It works.

  • NetInfo Manager in Leopard??

I am trying to follow some instructions from the Tecplot Support page to correct an error message that I am getting. The instructions call for me to make some changes using the NetInfo Manager Utility. This utility does not appear to be in Leopard. I need to duplicate and change some of the machine's information. How can I do this in Leopard.
If what I want to do is confusing, the instructions I am trying to follow are at the following link: http://www.tecplot.com/support/installation_database.asp?id=1355

Download and install the Server Admin Tools, and use that to make the changes; the Workgroup Manager can be found in /Applications/Server/. Use 127.0.0.1 as the server address as well as your administrator username and password, clicking on the third tab on the left side to see the network settings and duplicating the localhost entry by hand.
