Netopia 3342 - Eircom

Hi
I'm posting this for a friend whose ichat i'm trying to get up and running. He is working on an imac and has Eircom broadband in the republic of Ireland. The broadband connection works great but the usual old 'user did not respond' message appears when he tries to initiate a video chat.
Having had some experience of this myself I presume the issue is one of port forwarding. I'm finding it hard to open the ports however as when I try to change the router settings, the screen and commands look nothing like what the Netopia technical pages says they should.
Can someone please help?
Many thanks
Adrian.

Hi Adrian
USB modem dont work very well with mac's as they need drivers, I would recommend getting a ethernet router/modem like a Netgear DG632 1port http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG632 or a 4port http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834 no drivers needed so no headaches when the OS get updated and the USB drivers get broken.
Also come's with UPnP on as default so works with iChat out of the box.

  • Airport express - netopia question

    hi
i recently bought an airport express unit for the purposes of extending the range of my existing broadband signal in my house. There is poor reception in the downstairs area. The broadband connection is located upstairs and is a Netopia 3347WG box (supplied by Eircom who are the broadband providers in Ireland). I can not get the airport express unit to communicate with the netopia box. Can anyone offer any assistance as to what to do??
    Tks in advance.

Yes it will work if you buy an airport base station. My neighbor and I share our connection and he was getting a weak signal. He bought an airport express for the same reason you did, but we couldn't get it to work with my current wireless router. I decided to go ahead and try out a base station and it worked like a charm.

  • Trouble connecting a BEFW11S4 to a netopia dsl modem

    hi,
I'm trying to connect my BEFW11S4 router to a netopia dsl modem via an ethernet cable.  The router doesn't seem to be able to get an ip from the modem.  the modem's log doesn't even show any attempts from the router   Any ideas for what to try?
I just want to extend the wireless network that i have already from the netopia, whether via bridging or routing, i don't care.
    thanx,
    steev
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks but I've already tried what's described. I've tried it with 2 different 2nd routers.
One weird thing I observed with my latest attempts is that once I got the 2nd router on the same subnet, connected to the 1st router via LAN ports,  I could actually ping the 1st router from behind the 2nd, only with something like 80% packet loss. In fact I could ping out to the internet but also with 80 to 90 percent packet loss, and no http. And I can't ping the 2nd router from the Netopia (the Netopia has a little ping utility on it)
here's another possible clue: in the Netopia log there are entries like this:
00:00:15:20 LHD: Interface  Eth 100BT, State offline
    00:00:15:20 LHD: IP  192.168.0.2, MAC 00-0c-41-4f-f0-fe
00:00:15:19 LHD: Interface  Eth 100BT, State suspect
    00:00:15:19 LHD: IP  192.168.0.6, MAC 00-23-32-2f-52-f9
00:00:15:19 LHD: Interface  Eth 100BT, State suspect
    00:00:15:19 LHD: IP  192.168.0.2, MAC 00-0c-41-4f-f0-fe
00:00:11:45 LHD: Interface  Eth 100BT, State online
    00:00:11:45 LHD: IP  192.168.0.77, MAC 00-23-32-2f-52-f8
.77 is a host connected directly to the Netopia.
.2 is the 2nd router (connected via a LAN port).
.6 was the machine i was pinging from (connected to a port of the 2nd router).
What's the 'state suspect' business? Could the Netopia somehow be not "trusting" the connection from the 2nd router, for some reason? Or...?
It seems like this has to be some problem with the Netopia, because the same thing happens with 2 different 2nd routers a linksys and a netgear, and the linksys worked fine when i was using it behind a motorola cable modem.  the thing is, the Netopia is brand new and provided by Qwest...

  • Netopia Router WiFi-connexion problem solved on MacBook Pro!

    Hi folks!
I'm the owner of a MacBook Pro 2.33GHz since last March, and since then, I've been unable to connect my MBP to a Netopia 3347W wireless modem/router. It kept telling me that there was an error trying to connect to the local network. I had tried with or without any WEP or WPA, I had tried almost every single workaround I had found on the net or on this Apple Forum, and nothing did the trick. I have to precise I could connect without any problem to all the other WiFi-networks I found to date, except that at my relatives' house. 2 different Linksys were ok, a Motorola was ok, even at the University I could connect to all the WiFis I found. And the issue with the Netopia router was known.
I was almost desperate and thinking about buying a new router or so, and today, thanks to the
    MacOS X 10.4.11 update
everything works as if it always had! I could (finally) connect, even with WEP encryption, and the signal is excellent!
So, you folks (and I know there are a lot!) having problems with WiFi on your MBP, try to upgrade to 10.4.11 and give some feedback! Let's see if they finally did it!
    Cheers
    Weelo

  • Using Airport Extreme with a Netopia Wireless Router 2247NWG

Hi, I'm trying to set up an airport extreme base station (AEBS) with a netopia wireless router and my XP SP3 Laptop. I have the extreme plugged into the router and the set up of the AEBS went fine. I have a solid green light on the AEBS and it appears to be working OK. When I move to another room in the house, I have two wireless networks available - the netopia wireless router and the AEBS. Whichever of the networks I connect to, the signal strength is extremely poor and the other is showing available with 5 bars. When I connect to the strong network, the signal goes weak and the original network is available with 5 bars. I've tried disabling the wireless on the router but this doesn't help. The router network is still showing as available with 5 bars but I can't connect to it.
First day with my MAC gear (haven't even opened the MacBook box yet) and I need help!!!!!!!!!!!

So, today I finally broke down and plugged them both into the two available ports in the back of the AEBSn via ethernet cables. My question is: Do I have to "turn off" the airport connection in order to make the ethernet connection the default connection?
That might help but it isn't necessary. You can simply rearrange the order of items in the Network preference pane.
Search on the internet and you will find many ways to check the speed. One is http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp

  • Bridging Netopia with static IP to WRT54G

I have Bellsouth DSL and have been using their Netopia modem with a static IP as a bridge to my Linksys router (so that I can have access restrictions turned on).  It's been working fine for 5 months but now they upgraded my service and have given me 5 static IP addresses.  I can connect to the internet and I can connect to either device but the Linksys isn't grabbing the static IP.  I'm so entirely frustrated that I'm probably making this harder than it needs to be....  I've been working on this and have tried so many variations of settings that nothing makes any sense anymore.  Right now I have the Netopia set as "bridged ethernet" and the Linksys connected as PPPoE operating as a gateway.  If anyone can give me any help or direction I would greatly appreciate it!!

On router you can set either PPPoE or static IP. So change internet connection to static IP address, and assign IP address information given by your ISP into that.

  • Eircom webmail is difficult to use since i downloaded mozilla 4 How do i go back to 3.6 or can this problem be fixed?

I use Eircom webmail for email. Since I downloaded Mozilla 4 it is not working properly. It is impossible to open mail except by using a circuitous route also I cannot delete messages straightforwardly. Mozilla3.6 never caused this problem. Can this be solved and if not how do I reload 3.6. If I cant get a resolution I shall have to use Chrome as my browser. Thanks in advance Mary Lordan

  • Wrong IP add. ?: Laptop)))AirPort Extreme--Netopia 2241N--Phone--CenturyTel

I have no control of my Airport Extreme now that it is connected by Ethernet to my Netopia 2241N Router. In my NETWORK Locations it is picking up the wrong IP addresses and the Airport is not being recognized by Airport Admin Utilities. But the connection works... I have DSL High Speed, but can not do anything at all with my Airport with Airport Admin Utilities...nothing! It is not being recognized.
I was told by CenturyTel Tech Support the Airport has to be bridged to the Router, the PPPoE is to be obtained automatically and I do not have a static IP address.
    Please, can anyone help?

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.33 GHz PowerPC G4, 12-inch / Airport Extreme / Netopia 2241N Router

I found the answer to this problem with a great deal of searching and now I have my DSL High Speed and I am able to receive the signal from my airport extreme so it is now received by AirPort Admin Utility. The main problem was the Netopia was not correctly bridged by CenturyTel. It is now correctly bridged and with a few other adjustment w/ Network and AirPort Admin Utility, all is well.

  • Combo Netopia / Linksys Router

I have a Netopia 3300 series connected to my DSL connection running as a router, and have my desktop wired to it with a static IP address. I have a WRT54G v 1 running my wireless for my house. It has a wired connection to my Netopia, and a 192.168.x.x network for the wireless side of things. (My desktop and the Linksys, and another other thing connected to the Netopia have static IP address on the "WAN" side of things) for instance 75.0.122.x. The wrt54 wireless connections are 192.168.x.x.
Here are my problems, and I know I'm missing something, I just haven't been able to pin down what it is. Web goes back and forth ok between wireless hardware and the net. However you can't ping anything out on the internet from a wireless piece of hardware.  I would also like to map a drive  to my desktop from my wireless laptop even though they are effectively on 2 different subnets. Is there a way to do that?
Anyone have any suggestions? Make any sense?
    TIA,
    SD

Just don't run them in two separate subnets. Setup the WRT as access point following these instructions.

I have a stack of public IPs on my Ethernet router Netopia 4686XL which is on a T1 connection in USA, I have multiple Linksys routers model WRTU54G-TM(T-Mobile @Home Router) Which I use as router at various locations other than my office. I would like to get an Public IP from my office Ethernet router(Primary router on a Static IP with T1 Speed) to get one of the public IP address on my Netfilx device through Linksys router which is at remote location with various ISPs(Cable vision, Optimum online, Verizon FIOS, Vidiotron.ca CANADA, Airtel INDIA, BSNL INDIA, And more) where I have Basic internet service. I want to get the USA IP address from my office Location so i can overcome the issue of Netflix. There is the Advance routing in Linksys router (»192.168.1.1/Advanced-Routing-Router.htm) Where I should be able to point the the public IP using static ip routing but do not know how to configure. I have setup static address on Linksys client so the device will always be on the Private address 192.168.1.100. Step by Step directions will be helpful due to many hours of research without any success.

Hi there. Static Routing is actually possible but only through a local network. May I ask, what is the issue you are having by the way with Netflix?
