Is it best to install solaris 8 first then do an upgrade.

Think I've gotten to the bottom of this.
I found this while setting up a jumpstart server on my linux box (Boy do I never want to have to do that again).

What it pointed out was that the boot cdrom has 2 slices one hsfs and one ufs, I suspect that during the install the netra for some reason has problems with this.

    Hi,
It seems to me that you have not created a proper sysidcfg file. From your post, it looks to me like your sysidcfg contains no entries. This is why it prompts you to enter the kernel path. Look on docs.sun.com for a guide to creating the sysidcfg file .

    Have you used lom?
#. should get you to lom> prompt

  • Netra T1 (200) and Sun Storedge D1000

    Following scenario:
I want to set up an Sun Cluster 3 enviroment. For that I have two Netra T1 (200) and two D1000.
The Netra T1 has only one SCSI interface on borad, so I added an PCI SCSI/Ethernet combocard in both server. Now I am able to write data from each server to each disk array.
    But the following error occur:
After all parts were connected, I execute an "probe-scsi-all" on one server to see the disks in the D1000, but I cannot see any disks of the D1000.
On the second server I got the error message:
    Nov 5 10:58:13 wapgw2 scsi: WARNING: /pci@1f,0/pci@1/pci@5/SUNW,isptwo@4 (isp0):

I work with Solaris 8, patchlevel 24. The Prom was already updated (111991-06).
    Can somebody help me?

    Hello,
    thanks for help.
In order to change the scsi initiator on one of the two machines, I need the path of both interfaces.
Since now I changed it not.
As I know you do the following:
    - switch off one server
    - set auto-boot? to false
    - reset-all
    - probe-scsi-all
after that you have the path of both scsi interfaces. With that info you perform a nvedit and set the id of one machine for example to 6.
But I thought that regardless of the scsi id, I should be able to do a probe-scsi-all.
Was this a mistake from me?

Hello and Hi to all members,
I am trying to install solaris 9 OS to my sun netra t 200, but the problem is i dont have any sun keyboard. I am currently using serial connection installing the OS. I have problem finding the command especially F2_standard.
please help me regarding the problem??I tried to search from the net but i still can find it?? please help me??
    thanks
    syafiq

During a serial installation, it asked for your terminal type. How did you respond?
During the serial installation it displays a message that function keys like [F2] can be replaced with the key sequence <ESC>-<2>. That should work fine with a 'vt100' connection.

Has anyone else had issues with phone network being unavailable on iPhone 4 since updating to iOS 5.0.1? My iPhone 4 is continually searching for a network and does not find AT&T, my provider. I swapped SIM cards with another iPhone 4 running ios 4 and established this is a device problem, not a SIM card problem.

Does the device get any signal?
Sounds like the device may have had a hardware failure.  If it is out of warranty, the only option is the Out of Warranty replacement.
AppleCare is only an option if it is still under the original warranty.

  • Work-around to "unknown device" problem

I found a work-around to the "unknown device" problem, a pain to do, but much less painful than any alternatives I've found so far.
In my case, I can connect my Ipod one time. After I eject it, if I reconnect, I get the Unknown Device error. That's where this work-around comes in.
There is an INF file (a Windows hardware configuration file) in the Windows\INF directory that has a name that will be specific to your computer. Once you determine that file, you need to re-install it. Re-installing it allows the Ipod to be recognized the next time it is connected. These are the steps:
    1) Determine the file name on your computer. You only need to do this one time, and then remember the name. Using Regedit, navigate to HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-44455354 0000}. Then do an Edit / Find for "ipod" without the quotes, making sure that "Data" is checked and "Match whole string only" is not checked. It should find "Apple iPod USB Driver" in the "DriverDesc" value in one of the sub-keys. There will be another value called "InfPath". The data for that is the file name for the INF file on your computer. On my computer it is oem51.inf. It will be something like that on yours.
    2) In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Windows\Inf and find that file. In addition to "oem??.inf", there will be an "oem??.pnf" (same numbers), which is a binary version of the .inf file. Delete that file, or rename it if you prefer. If it exists, step 3 will not work.
    3) Right click on the .inf file and select Install. The computer will chug for a few seconds. The .pnf file should reappear and, more importantly, your iPod should now be able to connect one time. At least it does for me.
I hope that Apple puts out a fix for this problem sometime soon. Meanwhile, doing steps 2 and 3 every time I want to connect is annoying, but bearable.

I would like to apologize for posting this message. I promise that it did work and did seem to be the solution at the time I posted it, but it helps me no longer. My Ipod was recognized several consecutive times after I posted this with no work-around, but then it became an unknown device again, and there it stays, seemingly forever.
I am a highly skilled and experienced Windows system programmer, and this has me stumped. I apologize for any time that my message may have wasted for others. I have also tried every other solution that has been posted here and elsewhere, and none work.
I would recommend that Apple pay me a lot of money to find and fix this problem. Short of that, they should pay someone else to fix it. To have this many fatal problems for so many people should be considered unacceptable. Until a fix is available, I shall just be happy that I got as much onto my Ipod as I did before it became unavailable.

  • Netra 440 on Solaris 8?

    Hello there...
We have our applications running on Netra 1400/1405 system on Solaris 8.
I have two questions in this regard
    1) Now we plan to migrate to a better / robust system like Netra 440. But Netra 440 comes with Solaris 9 or 10 (not sure). So wondering whether we can customize Netra 440 with Solaris 8 (by asking SUN while ordering). Is it possible? If it is higher than version 8, development effort is required and we don't have that much time to do so now.
    2) What is the major difference between Solaris 8, 9, 10? Directory structures changed? Libraries changed?
    For 440, please refer
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/validateUser.do?target=Systems/Netra_440/spec
    Please advice.
    Thanks

Most code that runs on Solaris 8 should be able to run on Solaris 9 and 10 unmodified.
You can ask the System Handbook for OS support information:
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_private/validateUser.do?target=Systems/Netra_440_R/Netra_440_R
That shows later versions of Solaris 8 are supported.
    2) What is the major difference between Solaris 8, 9, 10? Directory structures changed? Libraries changed?UFS is compatible between all versions (but Solaris 10 adds support for ZFS). Libraries are always changed, but it depends on what you're doing as to whether or not that matters.

i iPad 3 fails to recognize cellular data In a number of locations Displays "searching and No Service" I have narrowed this to device problem. What can I do?

    Hello there, OSOSANYA.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a great checklist of steps and additional recommendations for troubleshooting issues with cellular connection:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3780
Follow these steps for help troubleshooting cellular data issues on your iPhone. After performing each step, please test to see if the issue is resolved.
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings, turn airplane mode on, wait three seconds, and then turn off again.
    Restart your iPhone.
Make sure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update: Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update: Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still doesn't, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPhone as new.
    Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Prism 2.5 driver for Netra T1 200 at Solaris 10 - newbie

Did anybody compile driver for a Prism 2.5 wi-fi card on Solaris 10?
    Please help. [email protected]

    Hello,
    thanks for help.

  • Netra t1 105: Solaris 8 & 9 install failures

    Hi Everyone,
I have two (2) Sun Netra T1 105 machines, each with a single 360MHz Ultra SPARC IIi and 256MB RAM. Both have 18.2GB drives that have been wiped clean.
I am connecting using Winblows 2000 and Hyperterminal, serial port B, 9600,8,n,1.
I want to install a fresh copy of Solaris 9 on these systems, but I am having absolutely no luck. I boot from the Solaris 9 install CD and the systems just hang. I've also tried to do network installs, and they hang as well.
I thought it might be my Solaris 9 install media, so I tried to install Solaris 8 using several different releases - 4/01, 10/01 & 2/02. Each time, I get the same result - the boxes just hang.
I make it this far (serial, MAC, and hostid x'ed out to keep our security folks happy):
    Netra t1 (UltraSPARC-IIi 360MHz), No Keyboard
OpenBoot 3.10.25 ME, 256 MB memory installed, Serial #XXXXXXXX.
Ethernet address 8:0:20:XX:XX:XX, Host ID: XXXXXXXX.

And then it hangs forever. In the OBP, I've set the input and output ttys to ttyb to eliminate LOM interference.

This could be part of the problem. How exactly did you wipe the disks in the other machine, and what type of machine was it?I installed the disks into a Sun Netra T1125, partioned (using format) and newfs'd them to create basic file systems.
How about a "boot cdrom -s"? If it boots this way, does "format" see the disks ok?Tried this, same result. The systems don't make it past the licensing terms message.
As for the mini tests - I ran them against every device, and everything seems OK. The floppy test threw an error because I didn't have a floppy drive installed.
I have a 4 port QFE card installed in the machine - all of the loopback tests passed, but the transceiver tests failed. None of the ports are connected (no cables). The two built in Ethernet ports also passed loopback, and 1 passed the transceiver test (the other failed) - the transceiver that passed has a network cable installed.
    Testing /pci@1f,0/pci@1/pci@1/pci@f/SUNW,qfe@3,1
    Internal loopback test -- succeeded.

Could I be experiencing problems because of the QFE card?? Doesn't seem logical, but.... perhaps I will yank it out and try again....

  • Netra t1 with solaris 9 fresh install on/standby switch

    Hi,
I recently installed solaris 9 onto my Netra 105 box. For the likes off me I can't figure out why the on/standby switch simply does not work since reinstalling. The only way I can power down the box is by literally unplugging it from the wall. I am a total newbie to Sun boxes (& solaris for that matter) & have had zero luck in finding any info specific info relating to this. Can some kind soul put me on the right track?

I have down precisely what you have recommended & the thing still won't go into standby. After executing poweroff from the LOM prompt It just sits there continually humming away. Yet it worked fine prior to the installation off solaris 9 from solaris 8. I have even reinstalled again, this time making sure to include the power management options. All reinstalls were done with the "initial installation" option.
Here is a screen dump off the unit booting & me executing the poweroff commnd:
