Netscape 7.02 and Mozilla

Dear Angels,
This is a re-post from Using Mac OS 9.x.
I have used Netscape 7.02 as my regular browser (with I.E.5.1.7.1 smi) as a backup. It seemed time to add new choices. I downloaded Mozilla from Mr. Knutson's wonderful site.
After installing it, in my terrible newbie way I trashed what I thought were extraneous files with the following results:
1. I lost my good old Netscape 7.02 and my bookmarks.
2. When I try to search anything (e.g. GOOGLE) this is the message it displays:
Please Upgrade Your Web Browser
Your Web browser does not meet the necessary requirements to access this content.
AOL recommends upgrading to improve your overall online experience. Download the latest version of Netscape Navigator.
3. I downloaded Netscape 7.02 full installer (from this fine discussion forum). However, I still get the same message. HELP!
Thanks in advance and All the best (writing this with iCab, although it has a sad pink face).
Irene

Dear Robert,
Thank you for your replies. I now remember when I last haunted this site. I was IE dependent and needed help changing browsers...
So I’m going to respond, award points and then re-post my problem with a better topic name, perhaps: Help with iCab?
From your first reply:
Some sites look at what browser you claim to be using
and reject your request unless you are among the
chosen few. Nearly all browsers allow you to 'fib'
about what browser you are using. In iCab, you do:
iCab > Preferences
click on the identity tab
pick what browser you want to be.
I am on iCab now, the browser choices it lists are:
iCab 5.0
netscape 4.79
microsoft i.e. 5.5
opera
From your second reply:
> Note: IE for the Mac is downlevel.
downlevel?!?
Bad choice of words. What I meant to say:
1) When you are picking a browser to 'fib' about,
pick Safari or Firefox. Both these browsers support
the latest standards. I'd pick IE for windows but
iCab lists an old Version of IE for windows. If you
can find the application string for the latest IE for
XP, I'd suggest that.
As you can see, my iCab only lists Opera, and application string is another ?!? for me.
2) IE for the Mac doesn't support all the lastest
html features. Since IE is so popular, many web sites
support it.
3) MS has abandoned IE for the mac
Yes, that is what caused me to start using Netscape.
It took me about a month to get used to Mac OS X. I
went back to classic after using Mac OS X for awhile,
but soon realized the Mac OS X was for me.
Robert
Many thanks again. This sadder but wiser newbie is going to much more carefully sort out her classic browser problems:
1. Use the IE and iCab that are still working.
2. Make modifications only with the help of this site.
3. OS X is for another day
All the best,
Irene

  • Linux, Netscape 7.01 and java plug-in how to install?

    I have J2SE v 1.4.1_01 SDK installed in /usr/java/ directory. Some days ago I installed Netscape 7.0.1 on my RedHat 8.0 Linux. Now if I try to run my simple html page which calls simple java applet, I get message to install proper plug-in. "OK" button directs me to SUN's page where I can download J2SE. But I have one.
    I still don't know how to install plug-in. Trying to create symbolic link:
    ln -s /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji.so
    in /root/.netscape/plugins and /root/.netscape6/plugins does not resolve the problem. As You see I work as root.
    My Mozilla 1.3a browser works fine. It has java plug-in installed.
    I saw Netscape uses /root/.mozilla directory for storing some information rather then /root/.netscape.
    Could You send me any suggestion? Thank You.

    Thank You leukbr.
    Unfortunately, this not resolved the problem.
    More info about configuration and my activity:
    I start Netscape by clicking on Netscape icon on my gnome desktop.
    The icon has its file in /root/.gnome-desktop directory. File name is Netscape 7.01.desktop (like title under the icon). Line to launch executable has following contents:
    Exec=/usr/local/netscape/netscape
    I changed it to:
    Exec=/usr/local/netscape/set_plugin_start_netscape.sh
    and wrote set_plugin_start_netscape.sh file.
    File /usr/local/netscape/set_plugin_start_netscape.sh has the following contents:
    NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610
    set |grep NPX > /root/diag.log
    /usr/local/netscape/netscape
    Second line is used for diagnostic purpose.
    I closed all Netscape windows.
    After launch of the icon /root/diag.log file is created and looks as follows:
    NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610
    If I start my html file (which calls java applet), Netscape still displays message:
    This page contains information of a type (application/x-java-vm) that can
    only be viewed with the appropriatePlug-in.
    Clisk OK to download Plugin.
    Hm...

  • Is there any other solution for Adobe Flash plugin crashing than the posted one about updating Flash and Mozilla? I cannot open any PDF files online and updated both Mozilla and Flash player to most recent with no change in the crashing.

    I was able to open PDFs online until version 8. Since upgrading to version 9 and now 10, I have crashes every time I try to open a PDF online and can see the form briefly for about two seconds before the plugin crashes. I followed instructions on the solution to update Adobe Flash and Mozilla, and they are both to the most recent version and it still crashes every time, no dent in the symptoms with the upgrades. I tried also downgrading to version 3, and it sill crashes. Although in some cases I can get around by saving the PDFs for reading them through Acrobat on my PC, it is a hassle as I do not want to save everything to my drive just to see what it is, plus sometimes forms are generated on a click and I cannot see these forms at all.
    I had to migrate to Chrome as I needed the PDFs and could not wait any longer - any suggestions to make Mozilla work again would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode] after enabling only the PDF plugin in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''' > '''Plugins'''. You can also '''Disable''' the PDF plugin and try an alternative, for eg. [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pdfjs/?src=cb-dl-created pdf.js]. Hi,
    Apologize for the late reply and the misunderstanding about the ActiveX download location, we could change the location through the below registries:
    Use Registry Editor to change the "ActiveXCache" value to the location you want in the following registry key:
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
    Use Registry Editor to change the "0" value to the location you want in the following registry key:
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ActiveX Cache
       NOTE: The values you enter in steps 1 and 2 must match.
    More information, please check
    How to Change the Download Location for ActiveX Files (registries exists in IE11).
    Regarding the urls that download the cab files into user profile directory, would you mind to share the URL?
    And here is some information regarding inf files:
    About INF File Architecture
    We may check the value of DestDir, DestDir can be set to 10 to place the file into the \Windows directory or to 11 to place the file into the \Windows\System directory. If no value is specified, the file is placed into the \Cache directory.

  • Form will not open with adobe reader when using chrome and mozilla

    The form opens fine in internet explorer, but when opened with chrome and mozilla it says that parts of the document could not be displayed and the 'submit form' and 'print' functions do not work? how do I get it so that the forms open with adobe reader as a pdf automatically instead of opening in another search engine tab?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Chrome and Firefox use their default PDF viewers instead of Adobe Acrobat / Reader and hence most PDFs will not be fully functional in those.
    For that you just need to change the settings :-

  • RTE not working in chrome and mozilla

    Any help weill be appreciable
    Thanks
    Veena

    Hi Sham
         After lot of debug i found out the following issues
    In RTE if we put styles plugin only this issue is happening
    The issue happens because the RTE is getting disabled because of the following in RichText.js
    if (CQ.Ext.isIE) {
                var editorSheet = this.doc.createStyleSheet();
                for (cssIndex = 0; cssIndex < cssCnt; cssIndex++) {
                    styleToAdd = cssToAdd[cssIndex];
                    for (sheetIndex = 0; sheetIndex < styleSheetCnt; sheetIndex++) {
                        styleToCheck = styleSheets[sheetIndex];
                        rules = styleToCheck.rules;
                        ruleCnt = rules.length;
                        ruleToCopy = null;
                        for (ruleIndex = 0; ruleIndex < ruleCnt; ruleIndex++) {
                            ruleToProcess = rules[ruleIndex];
                            ruleText = ruleToProcess.selectorText;
                            if (ruleText == "." + styleToAdd) {
                                editorSheet.addRule(
                                        "." + ruleText, ruleToProcess.style.cssText);
                                break;
            } else {
                var styleDef = this.doc.createElement("style");
                styleDef.type = 'text/css';
                var cssText = "";
                for (cssIndex = 0; cssIndex < cssCnt; cssIndex++) {
                    styleToAdd = cssToAdd[cssIndex];
                    for (sheetIndex = 0; sheetIndex < styleSheetCnt; sheetIndex++) {
                        styleToCheck = styleSheets[sheetIndex];
                        rules = styleToCheck.cssRules;
                       ruleCnt = rules.length;
                        ruleToCopy = null;
                        for (ruleIndex = 0; ruleIndex < ruleCnt; ruleIndex++) {
                            ruleToProcess = rules[ruleIndex];
                            if (ruleToProcess.type) {
                                if (ruleToProcess.type == CSSRule.STYLE_RULE) {
                                    ruleText = ruleToProcess.selectorText;
                                    if (ruleText == ("." + styleToAdd)) {
                                        ruleToCopy = ruleToProcess;
                                        break;
                        if (ruleToCopy) {
                            cssText += ruleToCopy.cssText;
                            break;
                styleDef.appendChild(this.doc.createTextNode(cssText));
                headEl.appendChild(styleDef);
    The above lines are from 650-701 in RichText.js of CQ5.4 . They have handled the code for IE seperately from lines 650-670
    The error is happening in line number 679 ; Where the ruleCnt is returning null for some sheetIndex and so the code is breaking and the RTE is disabled.
    If i add the following line of code
    if(ruleCnt == null){
    continue;
    just after line 679 . This issue seems fixed. But i think it is not the proper way to fix it and it is only a temporary fix. I dont know if it is a CQ issue.
    Does any one have any solution for this.
    To replicate the scenario
    Create a rtePlugin in ur richtext widget
    add a styles dropdown with styles in it
    run this in chrome or any other browser except IE
    If you have a proper solution please let me know
    Thanks

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

  • "View Source" problem in IE and Mozilla

    I'm parsing a HTML data source using JAVA.
    I do "View Source" of the page in both IE and Mozilla.
    #1 below is from IE and #2 is from Mozilla.
    1. <p><div class = "sub1"> <a name="..."></a>...</div></p>2. <p><div class =" sub1"> <a name="..."></a>...</div></p>Notice the spaces in the <div> tag. The spaces in IE and Mozilla are different. Could somebody please advise about this?
    Thanks in advance for the help.

    The two browsers use different programs to display the text of the source. IE usually takes the windows default and uses Notepad, whereas Firefox uses its own program. They are going to format it differently.
    My approach would be to use the Notepad version and have notepad save it to disk. Only your own program can tell for sure what is really in the file, without notepad introducing display artifacts (like extra newline to do word wraps).

    To determine if your browser can view applets, try
    viewing the "Cubic" applet on the following page..
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/2d/display/Cubi
    .html
    You will notice that you can manipulate the pattern of
    the applet by dragging the colored squares. Thanks for the pointer - it does, indeed, work as expected.
    It's a bummer that the "sample applets" are screwy, as that seems like a good place to go to confirm that you have everything configured right (well, it DID seem like a good place to go - it seems quite a bit less good now).
    Thanks for the help,

  • JRE 5 and Mozilla-1.7.3 question

    Is there anybody that can get Java 5 to work with mozilla-1.7.3.
    I'm using Redhat Fedora core 2 and cant get the symlink solution to work on my updated mozilla. I have installed jre-1.5.0 and tried all previous versions with no luck. I'm really confused about this because I need a java enabled browser on my job. I think it has to do something with the gcc versions used to compile jre and mozilla, but nobody told me in the knowledge database. So perhaps I should wait for a newer version of Java and in the meantime don't update the mozilla. I've also considered installing firefox, but if the compiling versions is the problem, this won't help.

    Go to this link http://dag.wieers.com/packages/j2re/
    and download both j2re -- and mozilla-java-- pkgs and install both on the same time.
    And woops ther u go. libjavaplugin_oji.so are installed in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins dir and jre in
    /usr/lib/jre
    It the link is down google j2re i586 rpm.

    I cant get my itunes librairy and mozilla firefox bookmarks to sync. Help?

    What?
    Well that must be a trick I've missed.
    As far as I'm aware, you cannot sync "the iTunes Library" (the media - songs, videos, etc.) with Firefox, since Firefox's bookmarks are the locations of websites that you've marked in order to access them quickly. iTunes doesn't "visit websites". What am I missing, I'm curious to know?
    What information, in iTunes, are you trying to sync with Firefox bookmarks?

Maybe you are looking for
