Netstat Routing Tables - Strange Destinations and gateways

I went on the Network Utility and ran netstat with the Display Routing Tables option. I got a 3 strange names on the Internet6 section. NO idea what Internet6 is first of all. BUt Destination names like Chicken-Wang.local, Brandon-PC.local and Troll-Toll.local dont seem normal to me.

install little snitch from obdev it will alert you to any unauthorised outgoing connections on your mac. Also is your firewall enabled? Are you behind a router? Do you have WPA encryption on your wireless network?

  • Connection Failed--can anyone understand Netstat routing info?

    Folks:
    Been chasing the problem of trying to get my two listed computers to connect by ethernet/Connect to Server with AFP and entering the IP address manually--which worked in 10.3.9. With 10.4.6 -- to 4.9 so far none of the Tiger OS are able to do that. I've rolled the AppleFile Server kext back to 4.8 and tried all the previous versions loaded onto an Ext HD &&& I finally ran AppleJack . . . and nothing, NADA, Nichts!! The two units "see" each other and log in window opens with my correct user name and I enter the password --the spinning beachball and then "Connection failed" or "Log iN failed" --"check the IP address and try again" but I'm looking at the DHCP generated number in the other computer . . . .
    Saw That Phil Smith.com gave suggestion that perhaps this is a routing table?? problem and to run Netstat--so I ran it in my Tiger based iBook with the "Display routing table info" button checked--but I don't know what any of it might mean. Any ideas?

    Cam:
    Back at the ranchito--plugged the two units together by ethernet port and then ran "ifconfig -a" and will post the results from both machines below. In this example using panther I would have entered 169.254.219.28 into ConnectServer window of my iBook; I'm looking at that number in the iMac in Network/Built-in ENet/configure--Using DHCP/IP address (the #) and under that it says "provided by DHCP server" click "connect" I get a window that shows my user name, enter password. Before, I'd be INNNNN--now I get FAILLLLLLL.
    The iBook running 10.4.9 shows:

  • ISCSI boot with Intel NICs added to windows 2008 r2 routing table causes non iscsi traffic to attempt default routes on iscsi networks

    I have a server with Intel 82576 Gigabit Dual Port Nics.  I have configured them to use iSCSI boot the primary looks to 10.0.0.1/24 and the secondary looks to 10.0.1.1/24.  The target is configured correctly.  Everything boots as expected.
     I have added the MPIO feature and configured MPIO for the iscsi initiator as per: http://blogs.technet.com/b/migreene/archive/2009/08/29/3277914.aspx.
     My issue is that the iSCSI networks show up in the routing table like so:
    I did not configure a default route in the Intel setup utility:
    I tried to explicitly remove the 0.0.0.0 entry and leave blank, with no change.  As you can see with the above routing table traffic attempts to travel over these routes:

    A ping to the outside world first attempts on 10.0.0.x/24 network, then on 10.0.1.x/24 network and then finally on the network the traffic should go over.  I don't want my iSCSI traffic to ever show up with a default route.  How do I get rid of it?

    route delete 0.0.0.0 deletes all default routes, then I have to add back in the "valid default route" of 192.168.100.6.
    I would like to not have to do a route delete though.

    So I've sort of given up on fixing the gateway assignment in the route for iSCSI boot.  I configured a DHCP server to give out the information required by iSCSI boot and configured the network cards to use DHCP for their configuration.  I insured
    that my DHCP server gave out no default gateway entry.  However, I still got the undesired routes in the routing table.  This makes me assume that there isn't a "fix" for it, only the workaround.
    Here is the script I run on each iSCSI Boot initiator (you would obviously change the ip number to suit your environment):

  • "Cloned" en0 (hardwired Ethernet) in MacBook Pro Routing table -- how to remedy ?

    I have noticed a "cloned" en0 (hardwired Ethernet) in my MacBook Pro's routing-table under Mavericks .
    Instead of listing the IPv4-address, in the Terminal's "netstat -nr" command, the cloned-en0 lists "<Link#4>" .
    I'm in the U.S., but currently the link translates to a U.K. IP-address .
    What is going-on ?

  • How to stop windows ipv6 route table auto-update

    In ipv6 , windows xp can get one global ipv6-address. how to delete the address and del the route in route table persistent? And stop route table auto update?

    The WsusContent folder is filled with 256 folders that are two-characters long (e.g. 00, 0A, 0B, etc), and each of those folders are filled with exe and cab files all with what appears to be a GUID as a filename.
    Currently the C:\Program Files\Update Services\WsusContent folder is 27.5GB in size with 256 folders and 15,361 files.

    Admittedly we could update that list a bit, but it sounds like you don't think there should be any content downloading to the WsusContent folder at all?

  • Multiple routing tables and/or policy routing

    Hey all,
    I'm trying to configure a Mac Mini (10.8) for multiple routing tables and policy routing.  This server runs Ostinato, a freeware traffic generator.  My purpose is to generate traffic on multiple VLANs towards different gateways and different destinations.  To that end, I have VLAN tagged the (only) Ethernet port and configured 5 VLANs on it.  The first one has the default route (I manage this Mac over this VLAN).  The other four have IP addresses in the test range I'm using. 
    The goal is to have traffic sourced from IP-address-X go out vlanX towards gateway-X.  It's counterpart on the far end runs Linux and I have configured it in this way:
    ip route add default via <gateway-X> dev ethX table X
    ip rule add from <network-X> table X priority X
    Researching on OpenBSD forums (since it's the base of MacOS X), provided this:
    route -T X add 0.0.0.0/0 -iface <gateway-X>
    echo pass in from <network-X> to 0.0.0.0/0 rtable X | pfctl -mf -
    However, the Mountain Lion "route" command does not support the -T option, so that killed that idea.  Another forum suggested that this would have worked on 10.4:
    ipfw add X fwd <gateway-X> ip from <IP-address-X> to any
    I tried this on 10.8 though the man page says it's deprecated, and (surprise, surprise) it did not work. 
    Any ideas to get this working appreciated!

    I'm guessing you want policy-based routing due to VLANs...? If you can get a USB-to-Ethernet adapter, then maybe you can work around this by using multiple physical links instead of VLAN tagging. But if you need source-based routing etc. then no.

  • Strange IP's in routing table

    I have a Linksys RT31P2 wired VoIP router that connects to my cable modem directly. Since there are more than 3 computers that link up to the internet in my house I have connected a Netgear FS105 5 port switch which all of the computers on my network connect to. I have had this setup for about 4 years now and it has been working fine until recently. I noticed that my connection was slowing down and wierd things were happening like links popping back to the page the link was on instead of the link itself and super long periods between page refreshes. So out of the blue I log into the router admin space and have a look around, nothing unusual. I open the routing table and I was surprised to see all of these strange Ip's, complete with their own subnet masks and default gateways. Also, all of them had a hop count of 165. The ip addresses resolved to several different ISP's in the sout eastern part of the country. Turning the router off and then back on clears all of these out but within a few days they are back. I have checked all of the computers in the network but have found nothing out of the ordinary. What is going on here? I didn't think that an attacker could come through the router firewall on a wired router but if hackers can get into top government networks, I guess they could get through a simple router.     I'm not sure I follow exactly. Are you saying a firewall between the router and modem? Doesn't the router already have one in place and is there such a thing as a firewall box that goes between devices like that? Somebody told me that this might have been due to p2p sites like Limewire or Bearshare, neither of which my wife nor myself use. My daughter has used Limeware but not much from what she says. I don't know but I really would like to fix this for good.

  • Strange behavior in a table with dropTarget and delete action

    I am having a strange behavior in a table with drag and drop and action component to delete row.
    Steps:
    Drag the first row to the table and appears in the destination table (works well)
    Select and change the value by 156, appears an error (works fine)
    delete the row, the row disappears (works well)
    Add the first row again and the value is 156 instead of 158 (why ????)
    I guess the error is the deletion that is not correct, but do not know how?
    Can anyone help?

  • Strange entries in WRT400N Routing Tables

    I was trying to setup some static routes (unsuccessfully) when I noted some wierd entries in the routing table shown when clicking the "Show Routing Table" button in the Advanced Routing section of Setup. The entries are:

    I am concerned about the entries in bold format. The address 151.164.184.120 resolves to some area in Texas although I wasn't able to find more. Any idea what this could be? Should I be concerned?

    You have PPPoE connection. You are connected to the PPP server 151.164.184.120 at your ISP. The first route says that the 151.164.184.120 is connected to the WAN interface. The default route says that your internet connection goes to the PPP server of your ISP.

  • RV082 Router and Gateway?

    Is there a way with the RV082 to configure routable IPs as additional subnets on the LAN site and have the device route to these from WAN to LAN in gateway mode?  It obivously works fine in router mode but then private IPs don't function.
    I have a server that requires a full public IP for SIP trunking (on a secondary NIC).  I've tried 1-1 NAT and I get unexpected behavior like loss of call control anf one way audio.
    I was thinking this could be accomplished by directly editing the routing table but with the public entry configured the table looks accurate automatically but doesn't route.
    For now I have an RVS4000 behind the RV082 and have the RV082 in router mode with my block of IPs.  I want to simplify the setup and see noticable speed increases when the RVS4000 is out of the equation.

    I want to mention something I discovered that I did not pick up from the documentation. When setting up my Vonage telephone adapter for a static IP address, I thought I had to configure the adapter as well as the RV082. It turns out that I could leave the Vonage TA in DHCP mode and still enter an IP address (on the RV082 in load balancing mode) for a given mac address. This had the effect of reserving that IP address and assigning it to the Vonage TA every time it comes on line. Then I could use that IP address to select which WAN to use and what priority or speed. Very cool...   :-)

    sh ip route = rib ? if yes does it mean its loc-rib ?
    so in a given router with bgp running, will there be 5 tables (sh ip bgp; adj-rib-in; loc-rib;adj-rib-out; sh ip route) ? if yes where are they saved ?

    sh ip bgp
    shows the BGP table (where are stored info coming from BGP update) 
    sh ip bgp nei x.x.x.x advertised-routes 
    shows networks that your router will advertise to a specific neighbor
    sh ip bgp nei x.x.x.x recieved-routes 
    shows advertisement received from a specific neighbor;  networks (NLRI) filtered with route-map distribute-list,... are included  (Inbound soft reconfiguration must be enabled)
    sh ip bgp nei x.x.x.x routes 
    shows only routes sent by a specific neighbor and not filtered or discarded (i.s accepted)
    sh ip route 
    show routing table; it contains the best route for each network (best is first of all the lowest administrative distance, then the lowest metric)

    actually we tried to make a neigborhood between ASR9000 and Cisco 7600, we have the neigborhood active but on routing tables from ASR only have the networks locals or connected doesn´t learn anything from BGP 7600

    When try to know the routes on ASR9000 from Cisco 7609 happen the follow
    the neighbor is UP from Cisco 7600 and ASR 9000 but the routing table is empty.
    the config on cisco 7600 is:

    the config on cisco ASR9000 is:

    Another important one is the fact that in XR you need to have RPL policies (even if they only have a "pass-all" functionality) to accept inbound/outbound routes in eBGP.
    Check the article on the asr9000 unequal cost multipath that has some sample BGP outputs and show command verifications that may help also.
    If not the case, get us the XR config from the A9K side.
    Also what does the bgp table on teh IOS side look like? as Richard suggests, there doesnt seem to be anything injected by the 7600 itself.

    1. Cleaning IP routing table - clear ip route * - This will refersh the routing table.
    2. Cleaning configuration - It depends on the device however in most of Cisco devices you may clear the startup configurtion and its done :)

    I can't find the right syntax to do what I need, if it's possible :
    Context :
    I work actualy on a migration from MS Access applications to Oracle (datas only). So I copied all MS Access Tables into Oracle and created manualy all the relationnal constraints like primary and foreign keys ('cause constraints are not included in 'Copy to Oracle').
    I Have often to refresh my datas, because the MS access applications are still in use. Therefore I wrote PL/SQL scripts. They do the folowing, using dynamic SQL with 'Execute Immediate' statement :
    Script 1
    - disable all user's constraints
    - disable all user's triggers
    - truncate all user's tables
    (Here, I have to do a manual copy of all MS Access tables to Oracle, checking the Append check-box, because the BRIDGE statement doesn't support 'Execute Immediate', and wait...)
    Script 2
    - enable all user's constraints
    - enable all user's triggers
    Could someone let me know how Il could do the same as :

    Hi Daniel,
    The BRIDGE statement is just an extra command I implemented in the SQL Developer worksheet script runner.
    It gets interpreted by SQL Developer and it dynamically creates (CREATE TABLE , INSERT INTO , SELECT ... ) statements and runs them against the connections specified.
    It was developed to improve certain migration features of SQL Developer. We haven't really spent any time developing it into a customer friendly statement to be used in custom scripts.
    Hence the lack of doc. But it is there and if you can make it work for yourself all the better.
    When I say "One way of doing what you want". I mean I haven't thought about your particular problem exhaustively and I wouldn't want you to take my solution as gospel :)
    If you are happy running a script in SQL Developer, but would rather not run 2 scripts , or cut and paste results around, you could SPOOL the results and execute them.
    --call your other scripts to disable constraints during the data move
    set echo off;
    set feedback off;
    set linesize 1000;
    set pagesize 0;
    set headsep off;
    set termout off;
    set verify off;
    set heading off;

  • Dhcp: default gateway not added if ip and gateway in different subnets

    Hi! Help needed with Arch's DHCP client. (dhcpcd)
    Assume that ISP leased ip 78.37.180.62/24 and gateway 78.37.0.1
    On my home router when you plug cable, routing table is like this:
    Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
    78.37.0.1 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 eth0
    78.37.180.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 202 0 0 eth0

    But on Arch it's much tinyer:
    78.37.180.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 202 0 0 eth0
    And no internet for me.
    I've read that before adding a gateway you need to add a route to that gateway or you get an error: SIOCADDRT: No such process.
    I believe this very error is what Arch's dhcp cliet gets when it tries to add the gateway.
    Funny thing is if you manually add the route to the gateway, the gateway is auto-added in 5-10 sec.
