Netware 4.11 Groupwise 5.5 Netware 6.5 Groupwise 7 migration
The setup is as follows:
Server 1 - NW4.11 SP9 (DS611) and Groupwise 5.5
Server 2 - NW5.1 SP6 (DS7.61) and Groupwise 5.5 POA
Server 3 - NW4.11 SP9 (DS611) and Groupwise 5.5 POA
Server 4 - NW4.11 SP9 (DS611) and Groupwise 5.5 POA.
We are to replace all 4 servers with OES Netware 6.5 and Groupwise 7.
Ideally a new tree would be benefical in order to have a fresh new
structure.
I am looking for the best migration path between the above current setup
and the new:
Server 1 - NW6.5 and Groupwise 7
Server 2 - NW6.5 and Groupwise 7 POA
Server 3 - NW6.5 and Groupwise 7 POA
Server 4 - NW6.5 and Groupwise 7 POA
Regards
Scott,

Does The GroupWise Server Migration Utility Change Case?
From what I've read, if I do a manual migration with dbcopy and use the "m" switch it will change the case of files (to lower) from the source server. Is this true?
Also, if I use the Novell GroupWise Migration Utility will that change files to lower case? If not is there a way to make it?
Thank you for your help

Yes and yes :) The dbcopy -m switch performs lowercase and according to the documentation for the migration utility it also does the same:
Performs an operation equivalent to GroupWise Check (GWCheck) with the storelowercase option to ensure that all filenames and directory names stored in the guardian database (ngwguard.db) are also converted to lowercase.

Upgrade and migration from Netware to Linux best practice
Hi folks,
We've been running NSM 2.5 for a few years on Netware and have been very satisfied with the product and performance. We are planning to migrating to SLES11 with OES11 very soon to finally move away from Netware and I have some issues I can't seem to find answers to. Of course I want to use NSM to move my home directories from my Netware to my SLES so I want this working well when we migrate.
I've searched but not found a good resource to show how to move the NSM engine from a Netware server to a Linux server with best practices. Anyone have experience with this and any gottchas?
The other question is of course is to upgrade NSM to a new version before or after the move to Linux/OES11? We are at Ver 2.5.0.43 and want to move to the latest version. Upgrade procedure and best practices would be handy.
The last of course is NSM compatible with SLES/OES11? I presume it is and certainly hope so because we want to move all of our users to SLES11 NSS.On 5/9/2012 11:06 AM, jlauzon wrote:

The NSM 3.0.x Engine setup process actually handles the migration from
NSM 2.5 fairly easily. Our 3.0 Installation Guide (available at
http://www.novell.com/documentation/storagemanager3 ) includes all the
information you should need regarding migration, including the
suggestions I'll list here.
You'll want to leave NSM 2.5 running during the migration so that the
NSM 3.0 setup wizard can connect to that Engine and import its policies
and pending events. You'll also want to have as few pending events as
possible in NSM 2.5 -- deferred deletes are fine, but all pending events
will slow down the migration process, since they'll have to be
transferred over.

Again, this information is available in the 3.0 Installation Guide. To
migrate from 2.5 to 3.0.x, you'll have to have at least one OES11 server
in your tree to install it on; but you'll also have to leave the NSM 2.5
Engine running on its Netware host long enough to migrate from it.

We are about to release version 3.0.4 of NSM, which provides full
support for OES11 on SLES11. The NFMS Support Team can also provide you
with builds of NSM 3.0.3 which support OES11; if you need those for
early testing, please send an email to storagemanager[at]novell[dot]com.
Hope this helps!

Migrate Novell Groupwise to Exchange Server
Migrating from one platform to another is really very tedious and complex job. However, manual migration of each user mailbox from Novell GroupWise to Exchange can be an extremely tedious and time consuming task. Starting from preparing Novell GroupWise
environment to installing and configuring connector manually, there is a long list of tasks to perform that needs a lot of technical expertise.
Therefore, GroupWise to Exchange Migration is the best tool to perform migration of mailboxes from Novell GroupWise to MS Exchange Server or MS Outlook. Equipped with user benefitted features, this software allows single and multiple mailbox
migration where users can save the migrated items to orphan .PST files or direct to MS Exchange Server user mailboxes.
Migrate archived items, address books, emails, trash items, attachments, images, calendars, work in progress, cabinet items and every other item of the mailbox..
You can try Free Demo version to see preview of Converted Mailboxes:- http://www.recoverydeletedfiles.com/groupwise-exchange-migration.htmlGroupWise to Exchange migration tool perform the migration by two method.
Convert single GroupWise mailbox: In this method user is allowed to migrate only single GroupWise mailbox.
Convert batch of mailbox: In this method user is allowed to migrate batch of mailboxes
Thus having various features It has become one of the best GroupWise to Exchange migration tool.

GWDVA restarting after migration
Last weekend I migrated my 7.0.3 HP2 system from Netware 5.1 to OES 6.5 SP8 on Netware. I used the migration tool to move all the data over and did fresh installs of all of the GW agents. Everything seems to be OK except for 2 things.
The first seems cosmetic but tsafsgw does not display my WPGATE folder under the [DOM] on my backup server. It displays the WPCS, WPOFFICE, and WPTEMP folders instead. I can still back it up but I have to use OFM instead of TSA. (Backup Exec) GWTSA on 5.1 had been working fine.
The second issue is then caused by OFM. When the snapshot is made of the SYS pool for backup and the virtual pool is activated, GWDVA unloads and reloads. I am using NSS volumes vs. the traditional volumes I had on 5.1 so I am not sure if this is normal behavior or not but I am guessing it is not.
If I understand all of this correctly, if I can fix the TSA issue, I would not need to use OFM which would eliminate the second issue.
I do have the post SP8 NSS patch on but wanted to let the system run a little on the new box/OS before applying 7.0.3 HP3. I thought about using HP3 when re-installing but didn't want to mix up any potential issues.
I have been doing a lot of research on both of these issues all week and really haven't found anything helpful. Any help would be appreciated.
KenSo far I have determined that it is not the snapshot process that is killing gwdva but the backup process itself. After turning on every related diagnostic log I could find, it appears to be crashing during the backup process itself. All related logs show no errors at all, just that the gwdva is shutting down and restarting. The backup logs show nothing abnormal. The only evidence is on the main console where I had the following messages:
8-17-2009 9:27:56 pm: SERVER-5.70-2713 [nmID=D0003]

These also came up in an old 2006 post with no real solution, but just that it was happening when trying to shut webaccess down with F7.
http://forums.novell.com/novell-prod...webaccess.html
Given the fact that it was happening during the backup itself, I decided to have the backup NOT backup the GWDVA.DIR folder and the backup ran fine and gwdva did not restart. I am going to try to narrow down exactly which subfolder/file(s) seem to cause this and will post the results. -
Export GW 6.0 mail to Outlook
Ok it finally had to happen....
My client need to upgrade their accounting system to Sage Line 200 which is
MS-SQL based.
We've discussed options like running GW for email but really for 15 people
(ALL need Line 200) - they can't justify having 2 servers so its a move to
MS SBS 2003 Premium
My client has been a loyal Novell...er since Netware 2.2 but this change
must happen.
Most clients are still will Novell servers and GW so my experience with MS
Servers is minimal (secially email)
How can I EXPORT GW info (mainly Email and addressbooks)??
This is NWSB 6.0 and GW 6.0
Any help (except go ask MS !) is welcome.Exchange has a Groupwise -> Exchange migration utility - start with that.

Hi.
I'm about to migrate GW801 on Netware to GW801 on Linux, OES2.
Is about to set up the dbcopy, first pass job.
I get a little confused, reading in differnt locations about dbcopy...
First, can I run dbcopy on the whole system, eg
nwserver/volume/gwsystem/... (where both domains and po:s residre) to
linuxserver/data/gwsystem/...
Or du I have to do the domains and po:s separatly?
There are switches, -d for domains and -p for postoffices. Do you have
to use them, or can I just do dbcopy -m -f source destination?
And in that case, what is the -d and -p good for?
And shall I use -f for first run and the -s for the final run, or
shall I use -i <date> the second time?
And somewhere, -k is in some example... Do I need to use it and why?
Thanks in advance.
/StefanOk...
Doing final pass next friday, and thautgh that it would be handy to do
the whole system, starting today, but then I suppose I have to take
each po and separatly...
I can't user GW Mig Util, because I am moving to a new tree.
GW Mig Util just moves within the same tree.
So, as far as I can see, the path is to use dbcopy, to get tha data
over, and then graft the users into the new tree, matchning the
GW-data to the users there.
Just found, when looking at the dbcopy command, and examples, that
there are many diffent exampels, som e with -p and -d, and some
without.
Some whith -k and some without.
And some with -f and -s, and some with -i <date>.
Confusing...
Looked for best practice :-)
/Stefan

Webaccess/POA log question
Hello,
We recently moved our groupwise system from NetWare to OES 2 Linux. When the system was running under NetWare, we were able to track the originating IP addresses of WebAccess connections through the logs of the Post Office a user was connecting to. For some reason, when we migrated to Linux (we used the Novell GroupWise Server Migration Utility to move all agents except the GWIA) the WebAccess connections show up with the IP address of the Domain that has the WebAccess agent runs under. Is there a reason this behaves this way under Linux, and is there a setting I'm missing that can display the external IP's?
Thanks,
Craige Lukowicz

So, if you have a licensed copy of groupwise, you have special .dc files that don't limit you to like 5 users, right?
But if you just go and download a support pack or something from download.novell.com you get the "limited" license files, right?
Normally I just copy the .dc files from the licensed into the newly downloaded ones for a quick "pre-built" SDD to install new stuff from.
But, can you mix .dc files from one OS to the other?
ie, original SDD that's licensed is NetWare, but now we're migrating to Linux.
Or must one use the licensed SDD for Linux and put those .dc files over?Hi,

No. The 5 user limitation isn't in the .dc files, it's in the ConsoleOne
snapins.

No, yuo didn't get any .dc files at all. GW8 is different, it's
unrestricted.

As of the latest GW7 patch and GW8, that shouldn't be necessary any
more.

Yes, they're the same.

When i stop rccups and restart rcapache2 everything is fine.
Bug or Future?

IPrint migration - Broker and Manager compatibility?
I didn't see this in the docs, but let's say I have one iPrint broker and 2 iPrint managers on 3 diff. servers in NetWare.
I wish to migrate to OES2 SP2 Linux, but do not wish to migrate ALL the iPrint broker/managers on one night
Can I just migrate the MANAGER first? Or must I migrate the BROKER first?
In other words:
Can an OES2 SP2 Manager "talk/work" with a NetWare iPrint Broker?Originally Posted by kjhurni

I don't think it can, it will need a driver store. That being said I have never tried. I'm guessing it will fail to load as the OES2 iprint manager should be configured to only connect driver store objects. -
Question no.1
Using GroupWise server migration utility, the default for the post
office destination is /var/opt/novell/groupwise/mail. I have created
home_ncp volume mounted at /home in Linux server and also mount a volume
named GroupWise at /home which is home_ncp volume. Therefore, I want to
change the default path to groupwise volume I mounted. What is the
correct path for this, /home/groupwise or /home_ncp/groupwise? The
reason I ask this question is because I can only groupwise at /home_ncp
from my xp workstation. Please advise!
Question no.2
Which one shall I migrate first, post office or domain?

Exchange 2007 to GW8 migration ?
Anybody knows how to do that ?
Is it possible as of today ?

Hi,
did this come out with success?
Yes, it did. We used the migration utility with Exchange 2007 and Groupwise 7.0.3 and set up forwarding on Groupwise and Exchange servers fine. There was no public folders for migration but everything else (what was suppose to migrate like this, see docs) went fine.

All Exchange contacts were migrated as well. Even better, if you're not migrating all users at once the utility will create an external domain with not yet migrated users as external users (not entities!) so they will be visible in Groupwise system address book and will then deliver emails for those user to Exchange.
So, it's a bit off topic as it's not GW8 but GW7.

Netware 6.5 SP8 Groupwise 8.0.3 - Function Free received
I have now posted this here, since I know GWIA is causing it, but I still do not have a solution. Please note I have added a couple more things we have tried...
Hello, we have a server running:
- Novell Netware 6.5 SP8 (The last released server pack)
- Groupwise 8.0.3 HP1, with all agents updated to 8.0.3
This server recently, without any software changes, network changes, or physical hardware changes, is now displaying the error message:
Function Free received Invalid Pointer 0x00006565
As far as we can tell, it's group wise related, as it only happens when we load GWIA. Within a 5 to 20 minute windows, after GWIA is loaded, the server will first display:
Function Free received Invalid Pointer 0x00006565
Then server performs several small abends...after that is abends FULLY and reboots....
We looked in the abend log...and there are no abends recorded since 2010....not sure why...
Here is a list of what we tried so far, when this started happening this morning:
1. Cleaned all temp/log files out of Apache and tomcat
2. Cleaned away any useless temp files we saw
3. Renamed all groupwise processing folders such as PRC.000 etc etc, PRC.000_OLD etc (So that they are recreated, incase a message is stuck
4. Let the MTA and POA run without the GWIA, they seem to happily run with no abends
5. Load the GWIA (Within 5 to 10 minutes, server abends)
6. Applied Groupwise patch 8.0.3 Hp1, for all agents (Groupwise) We were on 8.0.2 before this, when we started experiencing the problem
7. Mail server does load all comports including GWIA, and mail processes perfects, but server still amends after 5 - 20 minutes (Same problem as on 8.0.2) patch does not fix issue..
8. Ran Server with just MTA and PTA loaded, no problems, ran for about an hour no issues...so we loaded guia...19 minutes later, it abebded with the message below, it then rebooted a couple minutes later
9. Tried loading GWIA into its own prtotec space with the following comands:
protect gwia
No Love.
Of course before it abends, the same error message occurs, IE: Function Free received Invalid Pointer 0x00006565
Not sure why it is happening, out of current ideas.....Hi.

There is a pattern here, and that's the 00006565. I bet if you create
and check the abend.log, it'll be full with this or similar patterns,
which means you're under a network attack. Someone, somehow is (trying
to) attack your GWIA and to make it execute malicious code. This is
bound to fail miserably with Netware underneath, but he obviously
succeeds in taking your GWIA down, e.g a DOS attack.
So, you probably have to do some digging what activity s happening on
your GWIA at the time of this happening. Start setting your logs to
verbose (if they aren't already), and check what happened last before it
crashes.

Can't create new users after GroupWise is moved from NetWare to Linux
Hi,
I moved GroupWise (Version 6.5 SP 6, single domain and single office)
from NetWare 6.5 server to SUSE Linux Enterprise server 9. It seems the
GroupWise server is running oaky. Existing users are able to connect
their mail box and send and receive messages. But I can't create new
users on the GroupWise server.
I used ConsoleOne installed on the Linux server to create new GroupWise
users. It seemed that I was able to do it. The new users appear on the
NDS and the GroupWise File IDs were assigned for these users. And I was
able to add these new users to distribution lists. But the users DB
files (userXXX.db) were not created under /grpwise/po/ofuser on the Linux
server and they cannot connect to the server. Old users cannot find them
in Novell GroupWise Address book.
Does anyone how to fix the problem?
Thanks in advance!

This clearly sounds like your domain (which is the part of groupwise
which you admin against) doesn't/can't talk to the postoffice, so the
change you made (to the domain) does never get to the PO (which is where
the addressbook of your other users come from, and is what is
responsible for creating the user DB). This seems very likely to be
caused by your move not being done properly, and old information (either
path or IP address) for the PO still being in the domain and/or domain
database.
So how's the domain linked to the PO?
