Netweaver 2004S/BI in ECC6

Hello All,
First of all i appologise for asking this question again as it has been posted before on this forum but i just want to have the latest information.
For a client we are starting a complete new installation of ECC6 with the modules MM, QM, FI/CO, PP, SD. Besides this we also want to use the integrated BW system (on the same SID).
For this i have a few questions;
Is it possible to have the Netweaver 2004S/BI version of BW in ECC6 or only the 3.5 version?
I read in a post on the forum from Kathleen Beavers the following "This means that you will need to get approval from SAP to pursue this option. SAP will review your project to determine whether we think you are a good candidate for this approach and monitor your project." Is this still feasable?
I also read in a post that the approach is good for smaller projects, what is then considered to be a smaller project?
Are there any experiences  regarding the advantage and disadvantages other than described in note 855534?
Are there any experiences regarding system performance?
Al advice is welkom,
Many thanks,
Cerillo Smeets

Hi,
@Eddy - This is the appropriate forum for this question.  This forum was specifically created by my colleagues and me for such questions.  The BI forum is <i>also</i> a place where opinions on this subject can be gathered.  But, since this kind of question specifically deals with both SAP NetWeaver and ERP, this is where we want the question.  My colleages and I monitor this forum...I do not monitor the BI forums.
@Cerillo...
Is it possible to have the Netweaver 2004S/BI version of BW in ECC6 or only the 3.5 version?
MK> The underlying SAP NetWeaver and BI version depends on the ERP version you are installing.  With mySAP ERP2004, it is SAP NetWeaver '04.  With My SAP ERP 2005, it is SAP NetWeaver 2004s.
I read in a post on the forum from Kathleen Beavers the following "This means that you will need to get approval from SAP to pursue this option. SAP will review your project to determine whether we think you are a good candidate for this approach and monitor your project." Is this still feasable?
MK> See Note 855534.  When Katie wrote this, it was a hard requirement.  It has since been softened and is not "required", but is certainly a good idea to have an experienced consultant take a look.
I also read in a post that the approach is good for smaller projects, what is then considered to be a smaller project?
MK> This means in general, it is not a good idea to have the "embedded" BI as your full, enterprise data warehouse.  There is a lot of subjectivity in this, though.  Take note of what 855534 says about the lifecycle management of the system: you will have to upgrade, patch them together, etc.  This could be just as important but should be evaluated by customers on a case-by-case basis.
Are there any experiences regarding the advantage and disadvantages other than described in note 855534?
MK> I outline some other considerations in my <a href="/people/matt.kangas/blog/2005/07/26/the-paradox-of-choice-for-the-sys-admin.  I also plan to record and post a presentation on SDN about desiging SAP NetWeaver landscapes (when I can find the time!).  Also, see my TechEd presentation ULM213.
Are there any experiences regarding system performance?
MK> The DB tuning parameters for OLTP and OLAP systems are different.  With embedded BI, the system is tuned with the OLAP parameters.  We have found that <i>in most cases</i> that there is no performance degradation with these parameters, especially with the latest DB releases.  Just remember, though, that processes in the same SID will affect the entire system...in separate systems, this is not the case.
We are always looking for more field experience with these installations.  However, SAP NetWeaver offers tremendous flexibility in terms of landscape design and installation options.
Best Regards,
Matt

  • Difference between ecc6.0 AND Netweaver 2004s

    HI all,
I want to understand the basic difference between ECC 6.0 and netweaver 2004s.ECC 6.0 is abap and stack and if we want to java stack then do we install netweaver 2004s java stack seperately or we have a java addin for ecc 6.0 facility. If we install netweaver 2004s abap stack only does that mean that we have ecc 6.0 installed?

    Hi,
Ecc 6 is Comes under the ERP
While Netweaver 2004s is Sepereat component under which BW.XI Portal come.
You can install ABAP+ JAVA in both the Cases.
If you install Netweaver 2004s only ABAP it does not become ECC6.
    Thanks Rishi Abrol

  • Difference between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1

I am little confused and curious to know the recent changes happening in SAP.
Can you please tell me the differences between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1
NetWeaver 2004 is named because SAP has released it in 2004
and then we have XI 3.0, XI.7.0(that is PI right) , EP6.0 etc as individual components have different versions released in NewtWeaver suite.
But what is this NetWeaver 7.0.
We have EE5 or ECC6 and WebAs 6.4 or GUI 6.4 or recently GUI 7.o or WebAs 7.0.
How does all these differe, is individual component of NetWeaver upgraded with higher versions or total NetWever is upgraded with a higher version.
Can any one please tell me the exact difference between versions.
If some one has ECC6 installed in their environment does it mean that they have Netwaver components like XI, EP, MDM.. etc are installed or its only R/3, BI etc...
    How it works exactly?
    Thanks,
    Kiran.

Pretty much everything is explained in here:

Which environment variable are you referring to?
    JAVA_HOME is set to C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09.
    I am using j2sdk1.4.2_09.
Only port changes I tried was

    Both had the same results.
I have given below the last few statememts from the sapinst log file

  • How do I use the option "table view" in NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer?

    Dear,
We have used NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer, We found a strange problem. The option to select table view is not available. It is greyed out. How can you select table view (tabular) in 2004s Query Designer?
I have read the help doc about tabular view of NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer, I check my query, it has only one structure . but the option is still greyed out. I rebuild the query with 3.x Query Designer in tabular view, and reopen it with 2004s Query Designer, So there is a tab named "tabular view" display, but the option to select table view is still not available, and when users view the query result in web , it is still not in tabular view display. So I am confused, is there a bug with NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer?
    Please help me. Thanks!

Note 1002271. Seach this note to use key word "table view"

Can any one help me to complete the installation and execute the server successfully. I am very new to linux. Do i need to execute any other commands to complete my installation.

    Dear Rajasekhar,
this error simply comes, because the architecture of your computer is not the same as the one from the test drive. As I'm not sure, which architecture the N4S test drive uses, we simply have one of the following situations here. Either
your machine is x86_64 and the N4S is i386 or
your machine is i386 and the N4S is x86_64.
    Please check!
    Thanks,
      Hannes

  • Netweaver 2004s installation problem on Windows: Oracle 10G

    Hi Friends,
I would like to install Netweaver 2004S(with usage types AS ABAP, AS JAVA, BI, BI JAVA, EP & DI) on a server which has Windows 2003 server OS running on it.
The server has 6GB RAM and has 5GB of free space on C: and a free sapce  of 60GB on H: & 50GB on I: respectively. The database that is to be used is Oracle 10g.
Do I need to install first SAP solution manger 4.0 on this or Can i proceed with Netweaver  2004 S installation???
I am installing a central system.
First I tried installing SAP solution manger 4.0 on this system and it went successfully. Now when i am installing Netweaver 2004s on the same machine, during installation I am asked whether to "install a MCOD or create a new database for this installation".
I chose Install MCOD and proceeded  further with Installation. But my installation is taking a lot of time while executing the service :"Creating database schema". The message which i get on status bar is " Removing schema user SAPSR3" and the status remains the same.
Have any of you faced this problem ? Please let me know how you have proceeded further.
Before starting the installation  one of the prerequisites " SWAP SPACE VALUES" for installation was not satisfied by my system  and even then i proceeded with the installation.
Is it because of this SWAP space problem , my intsallation is strcuk?? or what could be the reason fo this?
    Thanks
    Diwakar

    Hello Diwakar,
If you are just installing NW2004s then it is not mandatory to install Solution manager.
To increase the swap space --
Right click my on computer ->Select Properties -> Click Advanced Tab ->Click Settings (performance) -> Select Advanced Tab -> In virtual memory -> Change
you canIncrease swap space/page file here.
Do not install the system as MCOD, make the seperate database.
    Do revert for further doubt.
    Best Regards,
    Sachin.

  • Problem with ejbs in Netweaver 2004s-Class not found exception

    Hello,
I have a webdynpro project(Newtweaver 2004s)  referring to a stateless session bean. I created an ejb and defined two public parts - part 1 contains EJB components and part 2 contains some Exception classes I refer to in my webdynpro project. I added these parts to my webdynpro project as dependencies for compile and runtime. I am able to compile and deploy the webdynpro project without any issue but I get runtime errors saying the following:

I did not have any issues when the code was running on Netweaver 2004 but now it does not seem to work when I migrated to 2004s. Can anyone please advice me on what the problem might be ?
    Thanks,
    Rama

    Hi Harsha,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
Trying to figure it out by comparing JRE versions but still no result. I have found one problem is that
when Gantt is loaded , Java in control panel loads all the Applets requried in to its Resources.
These Resources are missing for the user for whom the Gantt error is produced.
Loaded Resources can be found in the below Path :
ControlPanel -> Java-> General Tab -> View Button -> select Resources in Show .
So, How to load these resources ??? . Is there any setting to do that ???
