    BPM:
Business Process Management (BPM) has become a critical part of enterprise development.business process management
Business process management (BPM) is a systematic approach to improving an organization's business processes. BPM activities seek to make business processes more effective, more efficient, and more capable of adapting to an ever-changing environment. BPM is a subset of infrastructure management, the administrative area of concern dealing with maintenance and optimization of an organization's equipment and core operations.
A business process is a set of coordinated tasks and activities, conducted by both people and equipment, that will lead to accomplishing a specific organizational goal. The Business Process Management Initiative (BPMI), a non-profit organization, exists to promote the standardization of common business processes, as a means of furthering e-business and business-to-business (B2B) development. To this end, the organization has developed the Business Process Modeling Language (BPML), an Extensible Markup Language (XML)-based metalanguage for modeling business processes.
BPM(Business Process Management) is a structured approach that models an enterprise's human and machine tasks and the interactions between them as processes. BPM software uses a dashboard interface that offers a high-level view of the operation that typically crosses departmental boundaries. The dashboard integrates with all the applications that perform processes as well as related databases and can be used to trigger the start of a unit of work.
Evolving from document management, workflow and enterprise application integration (EAI), a BPM system can monitor and analyze tasks in realtime and set off alerts when specified limits are exceeded or a response is not received within a specified time.
    Management for People/Machine Systems
For decades, systems that are entirely automated have more or less taken care of themselves. However, operations requiring a mix of people and machine procedures employ BPM as a higher-level management system that keeps track of them both.
Over time, a BPM system can provide historical data of human-machine interactions that might be extremely difficult to obtain from information systems, especially disparate systems from several departments or systems running on different platforms.
    The BPM Suite (BPMS)
A BPM system may comprise a variety of independent packages or a comprehensive business process management suite (BPMS), which includes tools for modeling and analysis, application integration, business rules support, business intelligence (BI), activity monitoring and optimization. Advanced BPMSs provide a development tool for creating forms-based applications, which are often the start of many business processes.

  • Basic questions about NetWeaver

    Hi experts,
Here am I with a big headache caused by the Netweaver concept which I can hardly understand. So, I would be grateful if you could give me some hints on these questions even if they sound foolish:
    1. Is SAP-Gui an obsolete concept with Netweaver? That is, has the classical SAP-gui screen been replaced by a web site based on something like an Internet Explorer?
    2. If I have a ITS attached now to a classical R/3 to convert some screens to the internet protocol, will this ITS be unnecessary once I go to Netweaver? I understood that the Netweaver WAS incorporates something like an ITS.
    3. From my vague understanding of  WAS, I reckon this is the name of the new "Development platform" of SAP, sort of workbench, with the difference that from now on, Java will be a possible language, as well as ABAP, for development, and also other "functionalities" are part of the kit: an internet server replacing the ITS, etc. Am I on the right track to consider WAS as a new and extended workbench?
    4. All the classical R/3 modules are now part of the so-called "mySAP ERP". Right? So, let's say that mySAP ERP is the new brand which includes the old MM, PP, FI, CO, and so on.
    5. I have read some threads about the ECC, but I can't get to the real meaning. Is the portal a web development delivered by SAP with some ready functionality? or is it just a basis on which we have to actually develop the functionalities? Is mySAP ERP part of the ECC? or rather, is ECC something that is connecting to mySAP ERP behind?
    6. The easy-to-understand approach of a Development-Integration-Production platform in a classical R/3 schema, is it still valid with the Netweaver approach? I see so many elements in it (WAS, Portal, ECC, mySAP ERP, XI, etc) that I somehow get lost in this fuss and I can't see if Dev-Integr-Prod. is obsolete, and we need a hell of new systems to cope with it...
    7. Where do the xApps fit into this tricky map? is it something to develop from the new development platform (WAS)? are the xApps a sort of RFC that we can call from an external system? what is really an xApp?
Well, that's all for now. Either I get some help from you, or my head will collapse. Sorry, but I wasn't able to get help on these issues, with an easy-to-understand vocabulary...
    Thanks in advance.
    Ray

Hi Ray,  I'll take a stab at it.
<i>1. Is SAP-Gui an obsolete concept with Netweaver? That is, has the classical SAP-gui screen been replaced by a web site based on something like an Internet Explorer?</i>
Yes and No.   Currently you use SAPgui to access ECC 6.0 system, which runs on Netweaver ABAP stack, which is the latest release.  But I do believe that Project Muse may push SAPgui asside in the future.
<i>2. If I have a ITS attached now to a classical R/3 to convert some screens to the internet protocol, will this ITS be unnecessary once I go to Netweaver? I understood that the Netweaver WAS incorporates something like an ITS.</i>
I believe that is correct,  the ITS is a part of the Application Server.
<i>3. Am I on the right track to consider WAS as a new and extended workbench?</i>
WAS has been renamed to SAP Netweaver Appliation Server and it has two stacks.  The ABAP stack which you access via SAPgui and is the technlogy layer under ECC 6.0, and the java stack which runs underneath the SAP Netweaver Portal.    The NW Application Server ABAP Stack is the technology layer which includes all of the development tools and the system infrastructure.  The basic components which allow the system to run.  This is very simular to the "Basis" layer of eariler SAP versions,  but greatly enhanced.   Development done for the ABAP stack is done thru SE80 via SAPgui.  The java stack is a little different,  you do your development locally using NWDS and deploy your appliation to the java engine(stack).
<i>4. All the classical R/3 modules are now part of the so-called "mySAP ERP". Right? So, let's say that mySAP ERP is the new brand which includes the old MM, PP, FI, CO, and so on.</i>
Yes, all modules of the previous named R/3 are there.  my SAP ERP also includes other bolt-on applications.
<i>5. I have read some threads about the ECC, but I can't get to the real meaning. Is the portal a web development delivered by SAP with some ready functionality? or is it just a basis on which we have to actually develop the functionalities? Is mySAP ERP part of the ECC? or rather, is ECC something that is connecting to mySAP ERP behind?</i>
ECC 6.0 is the core component, formerly named R/3.  ECC  is just one part of the mySAP ERP package.  The Netweaver Portal is actually a bunch of java classes delievered by SAP which when deployed to your java stack allows for one point of entry to the users.  It is a role-based frontend.  You create iViews and assign them to roles and assign roles to your users.  The iViews can be running pretty much any application,  Web Dynpro ABAP, Web Dynpro Java, BSP, JSP, etc, etc.   The are SAP Delivered business packages that you can deploy that are standard applications.
<i>6. The easy-to-understand approach of a Development-Integration-Production platform in a classical R/3 schema, is it still valid with the Netweaver approach? I see so many elements in it (WAS, Portal, ECC, mySAP ERP, XI, etc) that I somehow get lost in this fuss and I can't see if Dev-Integr-Prod. is obsolete, and we need a hell of new systems to cope with it...</i>
Yes,  on the ABAP stack, you still have the TMS(Transport Management System),  the java side also as something simular, it is called the JDI,  or NWDI.(Netweaver Development Infrastucture)  and it mimics the TMS on the ABAP, sort of.
<i>7. Where do the xApps fit into this tricky map? is it something to develop from the new development platform (WAS)? are the xApps a sort of RFC that we can call from an external system? what is really an xApp?</i>
    Can't answer that one.  Sorry.
Hope this was a little helpful.

  • Regarding netweaver XI

    Hai,
This is vamshi i am working in sap-abap as junior consultant. i have nearly 7 months exp in sap. I know oobs concept also. Now i am interested to learn netweaver concept like XI,EP,Webdynpro.
For me which one is suatable. plz help me in this case.
    Thanks and  Regards,
    Vamshi.

    hi
If the organization is very big and they want variety of reports in all possible dimensions then BI may be the prime component and we can't deny XI presence in that land scape because it is a very big organization.
Incase of medium size or small size they may not need BI as their data may be managable amount. In this scenario they may also do not need XI if they do not have many systems and many trading/business partners.
Coming to portal, Yes this is another very important component as end/super/business users are more interested in look and feel, of course EP just does not provide good look & feel as it also provides Single Sign On and other good stuff. When the organization grows bigger and bigger every component has it is importance.

  • Concept behind, strengths and weaknesses of NetWeaver?

    Hi,
what is the concept behind NetWeaver?
What kind of strengths and weaknesses did NetWeaver have?
And which position did NetWeaver have in the context of ESOA?
    Dokuments are also from interesting!
    THX
    Chris

    Hi,
You're not asking for facts but for opinions.
I think you have to make your own opinions....
And everybody will have different ones.
From <b>my personnal point of view, </b>
The strength of Netweaver is the 15 years experience of robustness and reliability which began in 1992 with SAP R/3.
The weakness of Netweaver is the dual stack concept ( abap and java in the same product) which pretends that the Netweaver Application server exists, also there is an ABAP application server and a JAVA application server which are (in my opinion) badly glued together.

  • DTP Concept in BI NetWeaver 2004

    Hi all,
We are going to upgrate our project from BW3.5 to BI 7.0. Actually I am not clear the concept DTP(Data Transfer Process). It can be applicable only for creating new objects in Netweaver 2004 or it is the mandatory while upgrading also. Please clarrify.
    Thanks,
    Preetham

    Hello Preetham,
DTP is Data Transfer Process,  to transfer data within BI from a persistent object to another object in accordance with certain transformations and filters. In this respect, it replaces the data mart interface and the InfoPackage. As of SAP NetWeaver 2004s, the InfoPackage only loads data to the entry layer of BI (PSA).
Simply, DTP --> do the Data Transfer with in the BI (from PSA or InfoProvider to InfoProvider) based on the rules defined in Transformation.
    Refer the document at
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/e3/e60138fede083de10000009b38f8cf/frameset.htm
In upgradation project, you can able to maintain both object versions 3.x and also 7.0.
So DTP is not Mandatory for your objects,
If you want to follow the 3.x features only, you can go but you will not get the 7.0 features like error stack and other.

  • Is AOP (Aspect Oriented Programming) concept there in SAP NetWeaver AS ?

    Hi all,
    Will SAP support AOP....?
If so can anyone tell how to implement AOP in Java to monitor the applications deployed in the NetWeaver Application server...
    thanks
    Rafi.

    Hello,
To my knowledge support of AOP templates has not started yet with SAP.
AOP and Exterme Programming are things which SAP will be moving, but I dont have the dates

  • SAP Netweaver Portal - Folder structure and report publishing strategy

    Hi gurus,
I'm working on a project in which we are publishing BW reports in SAP Netweaver Portal (prior to this, we were using SAP Bex Browser) organizing it by Department (workset, 2nd lvl of navigation), Business Processes (workset, 3rd lvl of navigation) and "iview types" (transactions, queries, dashboards and so on). On 1st level we have a workset simply called "Reports".
For each PFCG role we have on BW (ABAP Server), we created a portal role and defined which of the higher navigation tiers is visible to users (delta-linking the top level navigation worksets to the portal role and setting visible accordingly) and then we assigned Portal roles to the appropriated Group (PFCG role) so all users that have access to certain PFCG role can have access to the corresponding Portal role.
    For example:
In BW (ABAP) we have a PFCG Role: Sales PMR Analysis - Administrator, which grants access to Sales Infoproviders, queries and data for PMR analysis. The user that have access to it, should be able to see:
    |Reports|
    |Sales Administration|
    v PMR Analysis
      > Web Queries
      > Transactions
      > Dashboards
      > Workbooks
In Portal we create a workset that has: "Reports" and under it, all Departments (Sales Administration, Financial, Services, Human Resources and so on) set as "not visible". We create a Portal role called PMR Analysis and add the Report/Departments workset, set Sales Administration as visible and add worksets/folders named PMR Analysis, Web queries, Transactions, etc, and all the corresponding iviews under it.
If we assign this new Portal role to the Group of the corresponding PFCG role, the user will see exactly as the example from above.
Pros: The users have a clean view of the reports he/she has access.
Cons: The users doesn't have a clear view of what is available in BW so he can request access. There might be some useful report lost in on of the hundreds of BW roles that he doesn't know it exist.
One of the options would be to grant visibility to ALL departments, business processes and iviews in Portal and let PFCG security roles control user access, but that might be confusing to have an overwhelming amount of links, making it hard to find what the user needs, specially during first access. Not to mention possible security breaches.
So, I'd like to know how other consultants are defining this kind of folder structure and report publishing strategy in Portal. Ideally we would like to be able to have:
    - Visibility of all existant reports even those that the user does not have acess (so he can learn that it exist and request access)
    - Clean view of reports, segmented by department and business processes.
    - Possibility to search for reports, even for those that the user does not have access.
I'd appreciate if you guys can share your experience on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Leandro

Cons: The users doesn't have a clear view of what is available in BW so he can request access. There might be some useful report lost in on of the hundreds of BW roles that he doesn't know it exist
This is not a refutation: your BW developers/consultants should be able to write reports, which points you in case of insufficent backend rights. EP is not designed to be familiar with ABAP security concept and cant take any influence at it.
One of the options would be to grant visibility to ALL departments, business processes and iviews in Portal and let PFCG security roles control user access, but that might be confusing to have an overwhelming amount of links, making it hard to find what the user needs, specially during first access. Not to mention possible security breaches.
    Yes, bad idea.
    - Visibility of all existant reports even those that the user does not have acess (so he can learn that it exist and request access)
As you already wrote on your own, this would be not good
    - Clean view of reports, segmented by department and business processes.
    - Possibility to search for reports, even for those that the user does not have access.
This is not covered by SAP, if you wanna provide that, develop it on your own.
    cheers

  • EHP Upgrade - Trying to understand the concept

Dear experts, this is an effort to understand the concept. I have been doing Basis work for the past 10 years approximately. All along, I have been doing the typical LCP and SP upgrades way back from legacy systems until now (ECC 5.0 / BW 3.5). We have recently upgraded our BW 3.5 to BI 7.01 and also created a dual stack (we never had Java stack before for BW). This is my situation. Below are my questions. Any guidance would be highly appreciated.
    1. Do we still have the SP Stack upgrades within Ehp 1? Or, has it been revamped completely and there is no more SP upgrades and we only need to do EhP upgrades? In this case, if I have to upgrade from Netweaver 7.01, is my only option upgrading to 7.02?
    2. Is there a place where I can start to catchup with the whole EhP concept? I would like to know the maintenance life cycle and the impact on our environment.
    3. Are there any specific upgrade guides that will guide me in transitioning from the typical SP upgrade methodology to EhP upgrade methodology. Also, I would like to know how did you transition (learning curve) from someone who had been with typical SP upgrade for a long time and how did you adopt yourself to the new path (like what guides did you use, what links did you follow, etc)
NOTE: I have heard the EhP upgrades are similar to release upgrades and I have done handful of release upgrades.
Thank you so much in advance.

    >1. Do we still have the SP Stack upgrades within Ehp 1? Or, has it been revamped completely and there is no more SP upgrades and we only need to do EhP upgrades? In this case, if I have to upgrade from Netweaver 7.01, is my only option upgrading to 7.02?
Yes we do have both option available. Either we can go for SP upgrade or we can go with EHP upgrade.

Yes. http://Service.sap.com/erp-ehp is the place where you can get all the infromation and document.

  • Upgrade from CIC0 to CRM IC Web - is NetWeaver XI required?

    Hi,
I have a customer who is looking to move their processes from the customer interaction centre (CIC0) in the SAP GUI to the CRM 2007 IC WebClient. They have upgraded to ECC 6.0, but do not have NetWeaver in place today, so they have asked whether this is required for the implementation of CRM. Do I correctly assume that the CRM middleware concept has not changed (ie it still uses BDocs) with CRM 2007? Also, can you please confirm whether XI required for them to move to the CRM 2007 IC WebClient?
    Thanks
    Janine

    Hi Janine,
Yes. There is no change in the CRM Middleware concepts in CRM 2007. There is no need for an XI for using the CRM Webclient.
