Netwok an iMac And a eMac

Can an iMac 333 with OS 8.6 be networked with an eMac 1.25 Ghz with OS 10.3.9. I am trying to netwok with a Linksys hub. Never had a problem with my old Power Mac and the iMac. Been trying to get these two to talk to each other for two days with no success. Thanks for any help.
Frank

I can get into the iMac from the eMac. Problem is getting into the eMac from the iMac. I'm working on changing over to OS 10 on the iMac, problem is my wife has an Expresso calendar that she dosen't want to part with just yet. So as time drags on I'm trying to learn the eMac and OS 10 before I inform her that Expresso is out the door. I have her working with Personal Organizer 4.5 that she kind of likes, but isn't ready to give up Expresso yet.

  • Printer Sharing with eMac, iMac, and iBook not working

Hello, everyone. I hope you guys can help me out with this:
I have an Epson Stylus CX4600 hooked up to my eMac via USB. My eMac prints fine with it. The eMac is getting its internet via an Ethernet wire going downstairs into my Linksys Router, which sends my Shaw internet to my iBook, my iMac, and my eMac.
I want to allow the iMac and iBook to access the printer over the network directly, so I can just print from those computers and have it come out the eMac printer.
I've looked at many articles on this. So far I've installed the drivers on all computers, plus they can all network to each other over File Sharing, so they are connected.
But I haven't been able to print yet. The most I've been able to do is get the files I try to print from the iBook and iMac to show up on the eMac, in its printer queue. Only it didn't show up for a LONG time. And when it did, the jobs automatically stopped and everytime I clicked start, it would automatically switch back to stopped again. The files would not print.
At this point, I want to get the iBook connected to it first. If I can do that, I'll try the iMac. But the iBook is first priority. I've tried making it connect to the Printer using IPP (IP Printing), and the result was... what I explained in the above paragraph. I also tried just ordinary Printer Sharing, but it said something close to this:
"Unable to locate eMac.local, Unknown host."
That hardly makes sense, because at that time I also tried getting the iBook connected to the eMac over File Sharing which worked. For some reason, the "eMac.local" and "iMac.local" files don't show up in my Network thing when I connect to them, or even when they're not connected. HOWEVER, I think they did at one point. I could swear I saw "eMac.local" and "iMac.local" in the Servers folder in the Network section of the iBook at one point. But it's no longer there.
Please help. I've described my problem as well as possible. What a long post. If there's any way to make my eMac, iMac, and iBook be able to print through my Epson Stylus CX4600 at any time directly, then I'll do it.
    Help!

Yes. I did say that my eMac, iMac, and iBook are all
connected to the internet and networked to each other
over the Linksys router. I believe the router is
still on factory settings because we never really
"set" or programmed anything with it.
Mac OS 9.2.2 on the iMac, Mac OS X 10.4.8 on the
    other two. IP addresses?
192.168.1.100 is what I would use to connect to the
    eMac from the other computers.
This is the eMac's IP, correct? Did you type it into Network, or was it assigned by the router's DHCP?
192.168.1.101 is what I would use to connect to the
    iBook from the other computers.
This is the iBook's IP, right? Again, fixed or DHCP?
192.168.1.102 is what I would use to connect to the
    iMac from the other computers.
    Same for this IP.
The iBook, as I've said, is wired. No wireless
    connections to speak of.
Okay. Now, if the router is handing out IP addresses via DHCP, what range was it configured for? My Linksys, for example, is configured to hand out IPs in the range 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.254. It has the IP 192.168.0.1, so the IPs 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.9 are available for me to hand out as fixed IPs. If I was to hand out 192.168.0.100 as a fixed IP, the router's DHCP server would have a potential problem, as it might hand out that address too, and only one device can have a particular IP address on a particular network. If your router is handing out 192.168.1.100, .101, and .102 via DHCP, you could and probably do have a conflict if you've got those addresses set up as fixed IPs. In particular, if you have anything else on the network, including Bonjour-enabled devices such as printers, you're likely to have a conflict.
Best way to resolve a conflict, if any:
1 set all the Macs to either DHCP, or if fixed IPs are required, to a fixed IP outside the range of the DHCP range on the router. (Or you could just turn off DHCP on the router.)
2 check the router to be sure that DHCP is set the way you want it, and the DHCP pool is what you think it is.
    3 shut down the Macs.
4 turn off the router, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on.
5 turn the Macs back on, one at a time.
On my Linksys, the way to set the DHCP pool is simple:
1 log into the router. (My router IP: 192.168.0.1. Yours would be 192.168.1.1.) Hit the 'Setup' tab. Verify the gateway IP. (Should be the router's IP. If it's not, something very strange is happening.) Verify the start of the DHCP pool. Verify that DHCP is on (or off, as you want). Verify the end of the DHCP pool. (My start is 192.168.0.10, and there are 245 IPs in the pool, so the end is 192.168.0.254. If I changed the number of IPs to 200, the end of the pool would be 192.168.0.209, and I'd be able to set the IPs 192.168.0.200 to 254 as fixed IPs if I wanted.) If your router allows for IPs to be reserved, you can set up reserved IPs for one or more of your Macs. (A reserved IP is an IP the router holds for a specific device. The network card in each computer has a specific MAC address; if that address is registered with the router, then every time that computer is turned on and connected it will get the IP that was reserved for it... so long as that IP is in the DHCP range and DHCP is turned on. Think of it as a fixed IP without your having to actually fix the IP.)

For no cost, you can try the open-source productivy suite LibreOffice. I don't have any AW files here to test but there are reliable reports that LibreOffice can open at least some AW files:

  • My iMac and Netgear Router from Sky Broadband are having problems

Hi, I've got a fair amount of knowledge in these area's. I not long switched to Sky Broadband a couple of weeks ago. The problem lies with the connection to the router that they supply for their service, a Netgear DG834GT. The problem is that my connection to the 802.11g network is extremely slow.
My iMac, even tested in the same room shows 20-30% signal. This compared 2 a Windows Vista laptop at 5bars and top speed downstairs, and two PC's (XP) either end of the house with the same normal signal quality.
Contacting Sky Broadband, they assume that the fault is with the iMac and are state that they can't really help because I am not using a wireless adapter supplied by them (If it's even compatible).
Does anyone know the solution to this? I've heard of many other users with similar problems on different Mac's but no-one seems to have a fix.
Also running bootcamp, ive found my signal strenth to me maximum, but my speed to still remain at 22Mb/s peak, and roughly 1-2Mb/s when browsing the internet.
Lastly I have WPA-PSK enabled, and i've tried adjusting wireless channels without having any luck improving the signal. I would be gratefull if anyone knew any ways to fix this problem, thanks

  • Advice? Networking Airport Express, old iMac and ethernet converter/switch

Got an old iMac (266 mHz, OS 10.3.9, 384M RAM) I'm trying to get wireless and network with wife's laptop and (in a few weeks) a new MacBook. Internet is from a wireless provider (Clearwire.net) and its modem hooks into iMac's ethernet port. Works great.
Also have an Airport Express and I see two options here: Get an ethernet converter for the iMac or an ethernet switch that would connect to the Airport Express and the iMac (Clearwire modem, iMac and Airport Express are in same room, so wire connections not a problem).
The latter is cheaper (switch vs. converter), but would tie me down to that room. How much of a hassle would it be to network the iMac through the converter since it doesn't have an Airport card? Can I set up Airport Express through the Airport Assistant software in OS 10.3.9 on the iMac even though it doesn't (and can't) have a card?

All I can tell you is how I have my home network setup and hopefully that will give you some ideas. I have DSL at home which came with a DSL modem / Wireless router made by Westell. I have an eMac running 10.3.9 which I have an Airport Extreme card installed. I have my old "Grape" tray-loading iMac running OS9.2.2 for which I purchased an Ethernet-to-WiFi bridge device. And finally I have an ancient Windows ME running laptop on which I have a USB-to-WiFi device (I got it in a trade). All three of these I was able to setup and configure to access the internet via the DSL wireless router.
So to answer one of your questions, yes the Ethernet-to-WiFi bridges work fine, are OS independent, do not require drivers, and won't tie up your valuable USB port instead using the Ethernet port you likely are not using anyway.
However, the one thing I have not bothered to do is to share the computers with each other. In other words, all of them can connect to the internet but none of them are set up to see the others or share files. For what little sharing or file moving I need to do, I just use an USB Flash drive, which all three computers can see/use fine and transfer stuff that way if I need to.
Hope that at least helps a little with your quest,
    Patrick

  • IMac and Raw Format

    Hello everyone:
I have and old iMac (the white one), upgraded with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
The computer works perfectly, I´m a photographer and still works with Photoshop and with large files like CR2 (Raw files).
Recently I bought a new camera: Canon powershot G15 and I can´t see the thumbnails in my Finder, neither in my iPhoto´11, but I can see them in Adobe Photoshop CS6.
In order to solve this problem, I have downloaded the RAWCameraUpdate4 from the Apple Support website, wich says that support the G15 raw files, but when I tried to install it, it appears a window taht says: this software is not compatible with your system.
Because of that, I was thinking about update my OS X to  Mountain Lion. I´ve been reading the technical specifications and my computer fulfills with the general requirements, but also it is writen that the supported models are iMac (Mid 2007 or newer).
My iMac was bought in decembrer 2006, I kown it´s old, but it runs perfectly, as I said before.
    So finally, here´s my question:
Is to buy a new mac the only option that I have to solve my problem? Or maybe is it possible to update my system to Mountain Lion?
Thank and sorry for my english mistakes

    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory, (I say 4GB)
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, (I say 40GB at least)
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

  • IMac + Airport Express + eMac all at the same time?

I may be trying to do something that isn't possible (but it seems it should be!)
Upstairs I have a 24" white iMac running Leopard, with an ADSL connection.
One floor down I have an Airport Express connected to my stereo, which works, albeit at quite low volume.
Another floor down I have an eMac running Tiger, which connects to the internet via my iMac upstairs. This also works fine.
My question is this: I would like to have the iMac, the stereo and the eMac all running at the same time, but I don't know how to do it. It's a case of the airport express or the eMac, but not both. Maybe it isn't possible?
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks

You need to configure the AirPort Express (AX) to join the network created by the iMac. Follow the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • 20" iMac and external Dell 24" : doesn't work with Mini DVI to DV adapter!

Help! My lovely Dell HP LP2475w 24" Monitor can't be used as an external monitor. The native screen resolution is 1900x1200 60Hz. The Apple site claims the iMac is capable of being able to output this resolution.
When the HP is plugged in via the apple mini to dvi adapter a (tested) DVI lead, it recognises the monitor, but can't bring it to life. Just an occasional flash. In the resolution listing for the HP, the native resolution 1900x1200 isn't listed.
Plugging a cruddy old 20" Samsung with the same DVI leads works with no problems.
I NEED to use the HP for my Photo editing, and phone calls to Apples support have proved fruitless.
Does anyone have a 20" Intel iMac and an HP LP2475w set up that works?
    Many thanks for any help.

I'm glad you got it working!
So do you have it working at full 1900x1200? I've noticed a few more oddities about my iMac on this monitor. First off is that initially I could only go as high as 1680x1050, which I think is the native resolution of the iMac. Now I actually see two more options, one of which being 1920x1200. This surprises me since you couldn't get it to a full 1920. Both resolutions produce the same size image on the HP, but the 1680x1050 is fuzzier. It's odd to me, same dimensions just a little less clear. I can stretch that using the HP's settings to full screen, but I cannot adjust the 1920/1200 image even though there is a black border around it.
Can you tell me what color settings you have on the HP? I have really struggled to find something I like. I actually like how things look in my iMac, and my MBP. I can't get things to look the same on the HP. I also feel like text is just a hair fuzzier on the HP than on either the iMac or MBP. I'm tempted to try a used 23" Apple Cinema Display, but I'm not sure I'll have any better luck with that. I mostly concerned about the image quality when I use my laptop, and for some reason I'm not getting great results with the HP or Dell externals that I've tried.

  • How do I change the icloud account on my iphone? I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air and imac and iphone). I can't see where I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey?

I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air, imac and iphone). I can't see how I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey? I also can't remember the password for this account so i can't even delete it and start again?
    Help!
    Thanks

Deleting an iCloud account only deletes it from the Device, not from iCloud.  In iOS 8, the name of this setting changed to "Sign Out" as that is a better reflection of what actually happens.  Your iCloud data remains on the server, available to devices still signed into the account, but the device you sign out of the account on is disconnected from the account, and as a result, the iCloud data from that account is removed from the device.  It will redownload to the device should you sign back into the account.
The only issue you'll run into when you switch between accounts is with my photo stream photos older than 30 days.  When you delete (or sign out of) and account, your photo stream photos are deleted along with the other data from the account in question.  However, unlike other data which remains on the server and can redownload to your device when you sign back in, my photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  When you sign back in, you will only get back my photo stream photos added in the last 30 days (as older photos are no longer in iCloud to redownload).  Like other account data, any my photo stream photos on your other devices signed into the account are unaffected by this.  If you want to keep older my photo stream photos on your device as you change iCloud accounts, save them to your camera roll before deleting (signing out of) the account.

  • Have apple tried to make the syncing of 2 iphone on 1 imac as difficult as possible? My nokia is a doddle. I cant back up my wifes 3gs without entourage. I iponed up a seperte log in on my imace and it still says my wifes is prev synced with another itunr

By the looks of it I'm having the same problem as lots of people. Apple seem to have made the system of syncing and backing  up 2 iphones as difficult as possible. I have just bought an iphone4 and synced it to my imac. I now have my wife's apps and content. Now when it try to back up my wife's phone using a seperate log in on my imac and a new itunes install I'm asked " do you want to sync and erase all of the details on my wifes phone or do I want to erase and sync and loose all her data. No option not to!!!!   I thought it was maybe the inset of dementure but lots of people are having the same problem. How hard can it be to back up one phone at a time and only that phone?  Backing up my Nokia was a doddle!   I thought Apple were well know for. making things easy?  I have also tried backing up my wife's to a seperate itunes but you cant export her contacts etc unless I have office and entourage which I don't. I cant back up her phone as it is with all it content and apps and start from scratch as I get only the sync and erase and destroy option.  AAAGGGHHH

    1) authorize iTunes on your wife's user account for her iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect the device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred her purchases in the previous step, your content will be in her library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

  • Hard drive died on iMac and getting replacement.  I have all photos backed up on my iPad 3, which was synced directly to the dead iMac's iTunes.  How can I move them back to my laptop and eventually to the repaired iMac?

I'd like to restore photos from my iPad3 to the iMac once I have a new drive. I had uploaded them directly from the iMac onto the IPad via iTunes.   That iTunes was wiped out in the drive failure.  In the meantime I wanted to move the photos to my MacBook Pro, but iTunes tells me they belong to another iTunes (mine also but was on the iMac) and syncing will erase the content on the iPad.  Moved all photos (4000+) to an album in iPhoto on the iPad, but iPhoto on the MacBook doesn't see the album-  It only see photos directly taken on the iPad. I seem to be caught in an owenership issue between my photos, my computers, and permissions due to the dirve failure.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Photos synced to an iDevice are different from ones taken by the device's camera.
Difference between camera roll, photo stream, and photo library - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3846502
You will need to use a third party utility to try to recover them as it is assumed that if you transferred them from your computer  you alredy have the original files on the computer and a backup of the computer itself (do not rely upon your iPad as a backup).  Furthermore, the photos transferred to your iPad have reduced quality so they are not as good as the originals.
Here's my old list of utilities (this list was really done for music rescue so make sure they do photos too):
Note: The information below hasn't been updated since early 2013.
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

  • Problems with new iMac and Adobe Creative Suite 2

Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I am a Graphic Design student and just bought Adobe Creative Suite2. I installed it on my new iMac, and it wouldn't open InDesign or Photoshop although I had no problems with Acrobat and Illustrator. A pop-up window stated that the program "unexpectedly quit". I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and was on hold with Adobe Tech Support for three hours until I finally gave up. If anyone knows what's going on I would appreciate it!

I dragged the installer from the install disk to my desktop and was more successful in installing problem CS2 apps. Make sure to update everything as well. Some times it takes a restart to get the finickiness out of PS.
