Network a Windows to an Emac

Hi
I want to network a windows based computer to my Emac. It's a Pentium II (333Mhz) running Windows XP.
I am running OS 10.3.9 on my Emac and it is connected to the net via ADSL by ethernet. I'd like to be able to run the Windows computer to access the internet as well if possible.
Is there a link someone can direct me to help me set this up.
Thanks in advance.
K.

You're going to need:
1 a router
2 a network card in the WinBox
3 several cat 5, 5e, or 6 cables unless you're going wireless.
To connect, you should
1 shut the Mac and the DSL device down
2 disconnect the Mac from the DSL device.
3 connect the DSL device to the router. Use the dedicated WAN port on the router. It will usually be labeled 'Internet'.
4 connect the Mac to the router
5 turn on the DSL device
6 turn on the Mac
7 when the DSL device is stable (the lights on the front panel have assumed their normal operating condition) turn on the router. You should have green lights on at least two router ports: the WAN port, and the LAN port to which the Mac is attached.
8 verify that your Mac can see the Internet by launching a web browser and looking for a major site, such as Yahoo or Google. If the Mac can't see the internet, verify that it is set to connect to the network via DHCL, and that it has an IP address which does NOT start with 169.254. You can do this by going to System Preferences and looking in the Networks pane.
9 once the Mac is connected, connect the WinBox to another port on the router. Verify that it can see the internet by checking with a Web browser, as above. If there's a problem, check your network connectivity and verify that you have a DHCP setup.
Normally it takes all of 30 seconds to install and configure a router and attach a Mac and a WinBox.

I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?  Please??? :-)

    Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.

  • HP LaserJet M1120 MFP will not print on wireless network with Windows 8.1 operating system

The printer worked on the wireless network with Windows 8.
I have been advised that it does not work with windows 8.1 because a driver is required. However this is not available to download.
It is ridiculous that by having the latest operating system I am unable to use the HP printer on the wireless network
When will HP have the driver to download?

    Check the support site here.

  • Connecting to Wireless Network Using Windows in Boot Camp

    Hello!
I installed Windows on my MacBook Pro, and I know how connect to the internet using Mac OS X, but I have no idea how to connect to my AirPort network in Windows. I know it must be simple, but I just don't know what to do.

  • How to disable Setting button in Tools - Options - Advanced - Network from windows registry?

    Dear support,
Now, my office use Firefox as default browser to access WebServer. And there are some policy that users must use ProxyServer. I do not want user change proxy setting in Firefox. How to disable Setting button in Tools - Options - Advanced - Network from windows registry?
    Thank you.

You can not use the Windows registry to disable items in Firefox. This link shows how to lock down Firefox proxy settings, change the values to suit your needs:

One minor variation, in step 4 instead of adding that line to all-js, you can create a file called ''local-settings.js'' containing the line shown and save the file in the same folder as all.js

  • How do I connect to a Wi-Fi network with Windows 10?

QuestionHow do I connect to a Wi-Fi / wireless network with Windows 10?
AnswerNote: This article describes connecting to wireless networks in Windows 10. Separate articles exists for doing this in Windows 8 and Windows 7.
To connect to a wireless network in Windows 10, follow these simple steps:
Select the wireless icon in the bottom-right near the clock. If you don't see it, you might need to press the up arrow to see more icons.
A panel will open on the right that lists detected wireless networks.
At the bottom of the panel, you'll see buttons for Wi-Fi and Airplane mode.
Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled and Airplane mode is disabled.
Select your wireless network from the list.
You can check the box next to Connect automatically if you prefer.
    Now select Connect.
If it requires a password, it'll prompt you. In that case, enter your credentials and follow the prompts.
You can also watch this video showing how to connect to Wi-Fi with Windows 10:

What are you trying to do the password on .. I have never noticed that it is limited to specific lengths unless you use WEP.. surely you don't use wep.

  • Msiexec + network access = windows hang

We have faced application installation problems with windows 7 enterprise sp1/IE8 while running an installation sequence containing some windows installer based silent uninstallations and installations.
Sometimes windows stops responding during installation sequence.
Installed application packages are pretty simple like python msi - package.
Active open application may continue after crash to work for a while. Mouse cursor keeps working. Screen saver gets activated normally. But this is not just a windows explorer crash, control-alt-del
do not work and open task manager window freezes.
Processes like windows installer keep running because some timeout related error messages may appear after waiting a longer time without hard reset.
System and Application logs look pretty normal. No crashes, but system is either extremely slow or lost some functionality completely.
If installation sequence works fine but you start internet explorer before booting after latest MSI - based installation, same symptoms appear.
This can be repeated using different kind of hardware and even at virtual environment with frequency about 10 - 20 % of installations, however starting IE after installations before reboot seems
    to freeze the system always.
When installing without network there is no problem except that you can freeze the computer with IE even without network connection.
Any idea what kind of network related issue could cause such a problem ? Not a network driver issue I suppose because this is repeatable in different windows installations. Windows installer
based uninstallations/installations together with http - connections seems to trigger the problem.
There are some http - based activity during installation if the network connection exists. Putting windows installer packages to a network share or keeping them locally do not change the situation,
key to the problem might be those sent http - based installation messages. It's hard to understand how the whole system gets randomly unresponsive during this kind of basic activities.

    Hi,
So from your description, IE and msiexec +network make Windows no responding.
In order to eliminate some software\device driver conflicts, I suggest you test this issue in cleanboot mode and safemode with networking, and see if issue persists, you can refer to these links
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode#1TC=windows-7
if you have some add-ons installed in IE, disable them, test issue again, some "bad" add-ons can take over high CPU\memory and make windows no response. (Tools\Manage add-ons), meanwhile, delete IE browser\temporary files
Make sure that there's no other pending installation in your system such as software or updates.

  • Group Policy to disable ability to turn off wireless networking in Windows 8.1 Update

I am wanting to disable the ability to turn off wireless networking in our Windows 8.1 Update clients using Group Policy. We are a school that runs classroom management software enabling the teachers to view what the students have on their screens.
Students just switch off their wireless to avoid detection. I have searched the Group Policy listings and can't find anything.
    Thanks.

    Hi  GeoffAUS,
I can’t find a direct group policy to disable the users’ ability to turn off the wireless network in Windows 8.1.
If we just disable the display of wireless connection, we will need to additionally disable the ability that disabling the driver in device manager.
We could try the workaround to use UAC to control the wireless connection.
Go to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policy->Security Options, and set the option
User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users.
Please make sure the computer automatically connect to Wireless.

Thank You .This is what I was afraid.
I work  at school and We have one problematic classroom. It's http traffic is blocked by a FSecure's firewall, but students have figured out a way. They boot computers to safe mode with networking and after that
they have access to the Internet! Now We have to change Microsofts's own firewall.

  • Networking Problems: Windows 7 and Tiger

    Windows continues to suck.
I am trying to network a new Dell with Windows 7 to 10.4 and 10.5 Macs. It's trouble as always. For the Tiger machines, the Windows machine recognizes the computer and drives, but many of the files and folders are missing, including a large important one. There is no obvious way for it to refresh or update.
On the 10.4 machines on the network, the Windows machine recognizes the user folder, but none of the drives containing any of my files.
Besides throwing it out the window, any suggestions?

  • Network Browser Window Refresh

Does anyone know how to force the Network Browser window to refresh quicker? I'm not talking about just refreshing the information a computer thinks it knows about who is out there in my local network, but to actively look and see who is out there.
Seems to me this was instantaneous back in Classic's Network browser and Chooser>AppleShare window.
Case in point; Three Macs (two are OSX 10.3.9, one is Classic 9.2.2) are up and running. Three icons appear in NB (10.3.9), the other two computers and the server alias. Start up the third one, and it takes so long for the new machine to show up even after it's been on for a while.
I know that the new machine is broadcasting because it shows up on the Classic Mac.
    Any one else notice this?

The whole Networking/Internet sharing issue is a vexed issue for me. For what it's worth here is my current Stickie note about my own problems:
"Notes on Networking and Internet sharing:
When you turn on Internet sharing via the "Network" Preference pane on the "gateway" Mac, you should also visit the "Sharing" Preference pane and enable "Personal Web Sharing". If you fail to do this, the "downstream" computers will not be able to browse the Internet. (No need to turn on "Personal Web Sharing" for the "downstream" computers). This proviso is stated in Mac Help.
Sometimes the Sidebar Network browser cannot find other computers on the local network, or LAN. (On the other hand, the Go…Connect to Server method seems always to work). The following technique is one reliable way of fixing the Sidebar browser problem, and assumes that you have an Ethernet LAN plus dial-up modem:
On the "gateway" computer's Network PrefPane, choose Show…Built in Ethernet, then click its TCP/IP tab and configure iPv4… manually. Type in an IP address of 10.0.1.x and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, all other fields blank.
Then repeat this for all the "downstream" computers, except that you configure iPv4…using DHCP. The network will automatically fill in the other fields (IP address, subnet mask, router) after a few seconds.
The Sidebar browsers on the "downstream" computers will now find the IP address of the "gateway" computer'" (but not its Rendezvous name} and the Sidebar browser on the "gateway" computer will now find the Rendezvous names of the "downstream" computers (but not their IP addresses)
Apple's <<docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106919>> suggests that both "gateway" and "downstream" machines be configured manually, but that does not work in my experience. David Pogue's Bible on Panther recommends that all computers be configured using DHCP, again this does not work consistently."
