Network Accounts - Red Dot disappeared?

Afternoon all
We have 12x iMacs on an Active Directory network. We have the usual 1-2 minute wait after boot before network accounts are available - however 10.8 gave us that red dot that clears once accounts are available, but in Mavericks there's a pop-up warning that disappears, but no red dot, so you can't tell when the problem has cleared and when you are able to log on.
Is this an option or has it been removed entirely?
Thanks, Tom

I do believe it's fairly normal... one of the crazy things about a fully cooperative multitasking OS, it can try to connect before the Interfaces are up & ready.
Found a work-around. This command adds a delay, in this case 45 seconds, before displaying the Login Window.
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow StartupDelay -int 45
If the Login Window UI detects that the network servers are available when it starts, it will skip the delay, also if network servers become available before the delay expires, the Login Window UI cancels the delay and displays.

  • What is the process for connecting ethernet.  Have ethernet cable connected to stereo received for internet radio and Blue Ray. However Network System Preferences indicates ethernet not connected and has red dot to left.  Note Airport wireless is working.

What is the process for connecting airport extreme ethernet?  I have ethernet cables connected to stereo receiver for internet radio and another to blue ray player.  The system preference network indicates "ethernet not connected" with red dot to left of this message.  The airport wireless works and has green dot to left of it.  The stereo receiver and blue ray player do not respond and give message not connect to internet.  Thank you.  /  cfpirate

It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
    After restarting, it worked.

  • Red light - network accounts

    Hi
My server is an Apple Intel Xserve running 10.5.8
I have cloned this to a test system and am testing upgrading/migration etc to 10.6.3 .
The server auto migration has given me no end of probs, so have discarded that for the moment. (Haven't looked at manual migration yet)
The upgrade method seems to have worked successfully.
All services seem to be up.
However - Using a 10.6 client - The "Networked accounts" is showing green and available and I can log in as a "user"
    but
A 10.4 user (and I have a few for legacy reasons) binds to the Server in LDAP and can be seen in WGM in computers.
I can also see the correct search paths on the client.
But "networked accounts" is showing RED and I cannot login as a "user"
Any help that can be offered would be appreciated
    Tony

I have no idea how to keep it connected, but you should have no problems logging back in to the network.  The upside to haveing the WIFI shut down when you are logged out is that nobody can remotely connect to your system over WIFI.  A wired ethernet connection remains active.
The red light is more informative that indicating you have a problem.  I have the same symptoms with my work network and have no problems.  The network accounts problem is for those that are setup to have no local login and require a network connection for authentication.  Is this what you have?

  • Can't login after Mountain Lion upgrade (Network accounts are unavailable)

I performed a Mountain Lion upgrade on a 2011 MBP running Lion this weekend. The Mac may have been set up to connect to an AD server with my user account, but I thought I had disabled that months ago... aparently not. I performed the upgrade at home not on the corporate network.
On first bootup after the Mountain Lion upgrade I'm stuck at the login screen unable to login with my local account or the admin account. I get the "red dot" next to the username field with the "Network accounts are unavailable" pop up. I'm plugged in to the ethernet network at work now... no luck.
I tried booting into the repair disk and repairing disk permissions. Still no luck.
Any ideas? I'd happily do a fresh install but I need to get a handful of files off the machine first.

No worries with the basic questions... it's important to cover all the bases. Thanks so much for the input.
    - I'm trying to log in with the same username I would use to ssh in... so yes.
    - I don't know if the account was a mobile account. The Mac was given to me configured about a year ago, configured to be on the domain. I since have used it on and off many networks without considering it was set up to be on a domain.
    - Never had a problem logging into the machine before the mountain lion install, although to be honest it was very very rarely ever rebooted.
    - I've plugged it into ethernet and let it sit for quite some time. It's still telling me Network accounts are unavailable and I'm unable to login with my personal or admin account.

  • Network accounts are unavailable - OS X Lion 10.7.4

My OS X Lion 10.7.4 Mac is successfully binded to my MS DC. However, every time doing reboot I keep receiving "Network accounts are unavailable" with red dot color and after few seconds it goes away.
Can anyone experienced this kind of behavior and how to resolved this? I have searched around in google but no luck to get rid this annoying message.
I hope anyone would share their knowledge.
    Thanks.

  • One iMac cannot login to network accounts

We have a small network with Lion (10.7.5) Server running on a Mac Pro and a variety of 8 iMacs and Mac minis that use the server for file sharing and network accounts. The client Macs are running a mix of Mountain Lion (10.8) and Mavericks (10.9). They have all 'joined' the 'Network Account Server' using the 'Login Options' section of the Users & Groups preference pane. And, except for one iMac, all the clients can log into network (or mobile) accounts from the server -- both ones that have previously been logged into on that machine and ones that haven't. However, one of the iMacs will not log into a network account. There are a few local accounts and logging into them is no problem. But every time we try to log into a network account on this iMac, the login dialogue just does the 'invalid login' shake. It seems not to check the login credentials with the server.
As far as I can tell, this iMac is set up the same as all the others. It is certainly joined the Network Account Server and there is a green dot by the server name in the Users & Groups preference pane. I have removed and re-added the server from there a few times, and I've even reinstalled Mavericks on this iMac (it is running 10.9.2). I haven't been able to find anything that has helped to solve this problem. Does anyone know why one iMac would refuse to use the network logins from the server when the others work? Or what I can do to gain further information?
    Many thanks.

On your client machine login screen, type in ">console" (without quotes) in the username field and hit enter. Try and login with your network account username and password. What error messages do you get in console?

  • How do I make the new voicemail notification (red dot) go away on iPhone 4?

I got a voicemail and listened to it and deleted it. now the little red dot over the phone icon is still on and won't go away. I have iPhone 4 and just updated to 4.3.5. I'm with TELUS in Canada. Any help would be apreciated.

why did you revive a thread that had been dead for two years? next time, make sure you're posting on an active thread.

I had the exact same problem. Iphone 5s on SpeakOut711/Rogers, Canada. There was no voicemail message, and yet the voicemail icon one the phone (dual spools thingy) stays on, regarless of how many times I check my voicemail.
I got it to 'reset' like this:
    - Call your own cell phone and leave yourself a voice message.
    - Wait for a few minutes.
    - Check your voicemail from your cell phone by pressing (touching?) the voicemail icon which has the red dot (although it may also work if you checked via land line, but not sure).
    - Delete your message.
You will notice that the icon disappears as soon as you hangup your call. It looks like some voicermail notification sync error between phone and the service provider.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Can't login on iMac to Local Network accounts on server

I'm a volunteer at the Marjorie P Lee retirement community. We had two iMacs that were available for residents to use. We recently bought two more iMacs and a Mac Mini Server. The goal is to make it possible for residents to use any of the computers and have their files available.
I have set up the server and did the updates so the machine is running 10.9.4 and the latest update of the server software. I have enabled Open Directory and created a couple of Local Network User accounts for testing. I also enabled file sharing and Time Machine backups.
One of our older iMacs is running OS X 10.6.8. On this iMac, I went to the Users & Groups pane and under Login Options I connected to the Network Account Server. I got the green dot indicating that the connection was successful. I then enabled network logins. This worked; I am now able to login on this iMac to the local network accounts on the server.
I did exactly the same thing on one of our brand new iMacs. Again I got the green dot indicating a successful connection to the server. Unfortunately I have been unable to login to the local network accounts from this machine. When I try to login, the password shakes as though I had entered the wrong password.
What do I need to do to fix this?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you did that already and looked at your recent calls and the red dot doesn't disappear then try rebooting the phone. Hold down the Sleep and the Home buttons until the Apple logo displays on the screen.

  • Lion Clients 10.7.4 show network accounts are unavailable and server is not responding when binding to Snow Leopard server 10.6.8

    Hello,
I am running Snow Leopard Server 10.6.8 and my clients are Lion 10.7.4.  While testing I had no issues binding 10.7.4 to our 10.6.8 server's OD.  I created a 10.7.4 image to push to all of our machines and in the beginning of last week I was able to push the image and get the machines to bind with OD and apply preferences on these machines through workgroup manager.  Towards the end of the week though this stopped working.  Now any time I bind a 10.7.4 client to OD it allows me to perform an authenticated bind and the machine shows up in workgroup manager but immediatley after binding the client the status jelly next to the OD server in the directory list is red and says "This server is not responding".  If I reboot the client I get a notification that "Network accounts are unavailable" at the login screen.  My preferences from workgroup manager are also not applying, which is my main concern because without workgroup manager my mac server is somewhat pointless as we use it for very little else.
I've since tried to bind a snow leopard machine (10.6.8) and this still is working with a green status jelly.  I've also built a lion machine from scratch, updated to the 10.7.4 combined update and am still getting the same issue where it shows the server is not responding when binding to OD.  I then applied the subsiquent OS update after the 10.7.4 combined update but the problem still persists.
Is anyone else having this issue?  Any help would help me keep my sanity.
    Thanks,
    Dane

Have you had any luck finding a solution to this?  The only thing I have found was to unbind and then bind without authentication.  Any help with progress on your end would be appreciated!
    Nick.

  • Messages and network account

Hi, I hope i could find a tip here.
I have a mac mini server with mountain lion and an imac with mountain lion. I have several network users created.
When i loggin on the mac mini : everything is OK. Messages and facetime are working as expected.
When i loggin on the imac (same network user) : messages seems to work but in fact the window is grey. I can't see any message. I can see when someone is typing a message (I have the 3 dots) But that's all. I never can't see the message. And if i write a message to someone, it is never send.
Facetime is working fine. Only messages has an issue.
I have tried with several network users : same issue. (Same user on the mac mini : OK)
If i loggin on the imac with a local account (not a network account) : messages is working fine.
So i really think, there's something to do with network users.
I hope i am clear enough (my english is so poor...)
Has anyone else same issue ?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Red Dot

    Hey There,
I have an iPhone 3G. On the phone icon, a red dot has appeared on the voicemail & it won't go away. I don't have voicemail on my account so I don't understand why it would be showing the red dot.
I took it to 2 geniuse meetings at two different apple stores and I got two different answers:
    it's a no service indicator
There's something wrong with your SYM card
Is anyone else having this problem???
    Thanks,
    Apple_Baby

If you're with AT&T and the phone is not jailbroken then you absolutely have VM...it comes with the service...
The red dot indicator for Mail or VM on jailbroken phones only shows the red dot and not a number within the red dot, which is the legal design, that number would correspond to the number of new emails or VM's you have. sounds to me like you are using a jailbroken device and thus we won't be much help here...

Someone has an idea to help?
The problem is for illustrator, adobe reader and adobe pro. For all of them, when I run it with a locl account, it works, but when I run its from the same workstation but with a network account:
    - illustartor freez

    Only photoshop works.
Do you have an idea how can I make it working with a network account but only from the same workstation?
