Network, and how to make it work
hi guys. yesterday i tried to install arch linux i686 core iso. and i did it all fine except for the network part. currently i have two pcs. one running windows and connected to the net through a modem/router with an ethernet cable. from the same modem router and using usb i tried to connect the arch linux. of course i didn't make it. i guess i have to do something that the beginner's guide does not include or just forgot a minor detail. i don't have a static ip and that's for sure but also don't know what DHCP and pppoe mean so i kind in the dark here. does anyone have any idea? while booting it tried to wake up network but after some seconds an erroe message comes up with a line or two following but couldn't read them as it disappears quite fast (and i also don't know where to find -if any- the boot logs). pretty much that's all. does anyone have any idea? plz help. thank you
You won't get far with that attitude here.
Linux requires drivers like any other OS does. In most cases all the hardware support you need comes already with the kernel (modules), everything gets detected on boot and it's more or less "plug&play".
In the case of graphics cards, usb modems (winmodems), wlan stuff, webcams and whatnot, though, there might be either no driver at all or you need to install extra packages, because the driver isn't yet integrated into the kernel. It all depends on how willing the chip manufacturer is to provide support/documentation. And then you still depend on (mostly unpaid for that task) developers to code something that actually works.
Regarding your specific problem: the only USB DSL modem driver I know is for the SpeedTouch one. There's a speedtouch package in the repos, but you need to figure out on your own how to use that.

I got mac keeper to clean up some files, and now I cant open Final cut pro 6. because of missing files. it is loading, at Atom strand.HD file, before it says that the program suddenly shutted down. the atom strand.HD is a file, that is connected to motion. if I put motion in the garbage can, then final cut works, but if I take motion out of the garbage can again, then it doesn`t. arrrrr. shall I re install final cut or motion. or is there a better way to make it work, again????? !!!!
Well, best bet would be to reinstall FCP. I'd use the FCS REMOVER from digitalrebellion.com (free) to uninstall the app first, then reinstall from the DVD.

Monitor Help: Identification and how to make it work!
My campus holds an annual Surplus sale in which they get rid of old hardware, and I happened upon an older Mac monitor. Being obsessed with anything Mac, and having a pretty big group of mac friends, I just swiped it up for $20.
Well, I have no clue what kind it is. It's CRT, I can tell that by weight and size, and it's case is clear, save the front which has the graphite tint.
As for the connector, on the side (left) it has a small indentation that houses two USB ports, and on back, it has a long, thin, what I think is a DVI.
Now, I have a B&W g3 that has a Radeon 7000, which says it has a DVI port. However, the 7000's DVI port has it's pins in rows of three. The monitor has only two rows.
I guess my questions are...
a.) What the **** did I buy?
b.) What can it connect to?
c.) Is there any way I can get it to connect to either the three row DVI I have or a VGA port?
(Note: In case anyone is wondering, I got to the sale late, and all of the good Macs were gone. Just a bunch of overpriced BW towers left)Hi Lezard,

This is the (infamous) Apple CRT ADC 17" Studio display. It works best off a video card that has a native ADC port.
ADC (Apple Display Connection) is an "all in one" plug specially developed by Apple to supply video, power and USB feed via a single connection.
You G3 is not capable of running a video card with a native ADC port. There are DVI to ADC adaptors available, but most of them will only function with LCD displays (and won't support this display). The only DVI to ADC adaptor I am aware of that will support this display is this one:

At $149.00, it is also one of the most expensive. You can use this because the Radeon 7000 has a DVI output option.
You can also get VGA to ADC converters, but they are even more expensive and not as reliable. They should only be considered if you don't have a DVI output option.

I restarted my itouch using the home button and top button...it restarted but it only shows the apple logo and that is it. I deleted all files from ifile and then it froze... any ideas of how to make it work again?

DVR with fms3 , how to make it work?

I am trying to look for documentation on how the DVR functionality is working in fms3. It seems that I need to implement som server-side scripting to make DVR even work. In Flash Live Encoder there is an option to Record DVR, but it when I press the button, all I get is:

use this to stream your video while recording.....what makes it record?and not live? this line here:

the second parameter.....to make it stream live without recording it to file you change it to "live"....the first parameter is what you name your file...

I cannot use the software.. so you need to figure out where the problem is..
But let me suggest.. the Mac is not the issue and likely the info from Sony is also up the creek.. they make PC's after all.
It is far more likely the camera is having issues with the wireless network.
Do you know you have a connection to the home network on the camera.. ?? You have an IP address and some internet or local access at least?
How you will discover those things is by fiddling.. but if you can tell me what wireless AP you are using that will help. -

Not necessarily. That only works as stated if you have one of the most recent MBP's that has a built-in HDMI port.
If the MBP only has a Thunderbolt or miniDisplayPort, you need an appropriate adapter cable and even if you use an HDMI adapter or cable to connect to your HDTV there is no guarantee it will carry audio. You have to determine if your specific MBP model supports audio out through its miniDisplayPort or Thunderbolt output, and whether the adapter does likewise. -

I have not yet seen any official response to the question: "Is the Apple AV Composite cable fully supported with 30pin connector devices upgraded with iOS7 - specifically ? - eg. iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s"
