Network backups? Anyone tried Retrospect with Mozi?
I'll admit it, I'm still working on my overall backup strategy.. I've got 2 mac's, a couple of PC's and now a deprecated FreeBSD server waiting to find a new home. Currently all of my important data is on my Mac Mini server. In perusing my options, I ran across Retrospect Backup which we've used at work in the distant past on Mac's and it worked fine. I noticed that the PC version of the product can do network backups to Mozi which is one of those Internet based backup services.. I'm wondering if any of you have used this combination to backup PC's and Mac's using the Retrospect tool on either side and what you thought of it over old-school backups to tape or hard drives that are local to you? Thanks!
Was a big user of retrospect for many years. Not using crashplan pro - to provide local disk and remote off site backups.

Hi mmollo22. I use an external monitor with my iMac - Dell U2412 connected via RGB
Mail window on Dell - Reply window appears then almost immediately disappears UNLESS
1) Full screen mode
2) Pre-existing Reply window exists and is visible
Mail window on iMac - Reply window appears on Dell regardless of pre-existing windows. Full screen mode reply
window appears on the iMac.
Others are having Gmail difficulties. I haven't tested mine thoroughly yet, but it seems unaffected, which would also be strange. -
HT4356 Has anyone tried AirPrint with a HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dn ?
The HP site here<\a> claims AirPrint is not supported for this model but the Apple site here<\a> claims other wise.
So, i tested it out already. AirPrint works for this particular HP Printer. I had to connect a wireless router to the printer thru the network port. Hope this helps anyone facing the same problem.

Anyone tried AppleTV with Snow Leopard yet ?
Very tempted to go and pick up a copy, but not sure I can be bothered with the potential hassle when my main computer is now reasonably stable.
Chances are the upgrade will just work fine, but you never know with these things, and then there's the potential software conflicts and hardware without compatible drivers.
Anyhow it'll be interesting to see what the new streaming/sleep feature adds...I have 10.6 I can sync nothing to the ATV. I can buy from the Apple Store, I can access my photos from my web gallery, I can stream my music from Itunes. I can sync nothing, the option to sync does not appear on the summary page. When I attempt to access Iphoto I get a message that there are no photos in my shared library.
I have restarted the ATV several times, I have re-sync it with my computer 4 times. all to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated -
Since updating OS to Mountain Lion from leopard, I get the following error message when trying to backup with time machine on external drive. "Could not complete backup to media share. The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features." What are AFP features and how do I get Time Machine to backup to my current external backup?
This means that your NAS does not support the required encryption. Update your NAS to the latest firmware or ditch it and buy a Time Capsule (they are the most reliable when using TM).

After installed mavericks i cannot sign in to my facetime and i messages. i tried it 100 times, but it is showing couldn't sign in check your network and try again. there is no problem with my network. if anyone knows the solution please help me .

What version of the OS did you upgrade from ?
Anything before OS X 10.8.2 may have an issue if the Logic/Mother board has been replaced and the Serial Number not "flashed" back to it.
In the Apple Icon menu use the About this Mac item.
In the new panel click twice on the line that tells you the current OS level
It will change to the Build number (and alternative count to the OS versions) and then the Serial Number.
If it is missing you need to get it replaced.
(It is supposed to be done on Repair or Refurbishment).
An Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider as the best choices.
There are apps you can download (They are Mac Model specific) but needs careful typing as it is a once only trip.

Has anyone tried syncing their photos to iTunes with the cable in addition to how it should work via wi-fi on iCloud? On the Apple support info page, it says you should do both types oof backup. The Genius Bar told me 2x not to do both. What experiences has the community had? I'm also having syncing issues with photos most recently as well as contact updates. (I have an iPhone 4S with the iOS7.1) Thanks much!
It sounds like you are mixing up several different things (or not using the terminology that Apple uses).
One thing is backup. You can backup via icloud or via iTunes and there is no reason you cannot do both -- I do and the second link below from Apple gives instructions. Doing a backup will include photos from the Camera Roll in the backup but you will not be able to see the results -- all of the backup data will be stored on iCloud or on your computer in files that are not designed to be accessed by you for any purpose other than restoring to your phone in the event of a problem. If you simply want to transfer photos from an iPhone to a computer, the terminology Apple uses for that is "import" and it is done without iTunes. New photos (taken after you change the setting) can be done via PhotoStream which is a cloud based option. The other option is via cable. Instructions for both: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
Syncing via iTunes (with regard to photos) is used to transfer photos the other direction -- from the computer to the phone. Instructions for that http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 -
Time machine stalling with network backup to Live Duo
I'm running Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and using a Western Digital Live Duo (NAS with 6TB set up with RAID1 (mirror)) for backup with Time Machine (TM). The WD Live Duo has a specific feature for supporting Time Machine and shares a partition for TM backup, but something is wacky as TM came up a few days ago saying that it had validated the backup and needed to create a new backup.
The NAS is available on the network, I can easily access it from multiple computers on our home network as well as from the iMac I'm trying to backup.
I'm connected to the NAS via a network switch (1000/100/10) that both the NAS and this iMac are connected to using Gigabit ethernet wired connections.
Time machine has been running for 2 days now and reports " 67.63GB of 363.44 GB - About 5 days" . Yesterday it said 4 days.. ;-)
I've been having issues with TM stalling and eating up all the resources when I was just backing up to a local USB drive.
Is there any other control for TM that is not visible? Where would I find the TM logs to see if something else is going on?
Any other ideas?
Thanks.Backing up with Time Machine to a third-party network device is unsupported by Apple and unreliable. Most if not all such devices use the obsolete "netatalk" implementation of AFP, which doesn't meet the technical requirements for a Time Machine server. I strongly suggest you back up to two or more locally attached external hard drives. If you want network backup, use an Apple Time Capsule or another Mac with File Sharing active as the destination.

I am trying to connect to my uni wifi, and when i click on the wifi, it directs me to a log in page. However, the two boxes to enter the username and password do not appear. Can anyone help me with this???
You didn't say what you have already tried, but if you haven't already done so, power-cycle your router (unplug it for 15 seconds then plug it back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, then try joining your wifi again.

AFP - Apple Filing Protocol
The Network Attached Storage (NAS) that you are pointing Time Machine at does not have the features needed by Time Machine in order to do its Thing. Time Machine needs some specific features that are not typically available on generic networked storage devices.
There are manufactures that support the Mac OS X HFS+ file system formats and implement all the needed AFP protocol packets necessary so that they can be used with Time Machine, but apparently yours does not.
If you are not using a networked mounted volume for Time Machine, then more information will be needed about your Time Machine setup. -

Your iPhone's iOS must be same or newer than the one in backups. In your case it is older so you need to update your iPhone and then recover it with backup.
