Network Bandwidth Problem

Hello everyone,
I am having bandwidth issues in my network. The current internet line from the ISP is 50Mbps, but we are not getting the complete bandwidth (almost 20Mbps is lost). I have been analyzing the network past few days using PRTG and learnt that a major portion of the bandwidth is being utilized by an unkown Source IP going towards unkown destination IP using an unknown port number(none of the IP's and Port are being shown in their respective tables, just the utilized bandwidth shown but rest of Source IPs, Destination IPs & Port being used are shown), So I came to a conclusion that some one in my network might be using a proxy such as hotspot shield which is taking major portion of the bandwidth and where i assume the bandwidth is being leaked. Is there any means of blocking the use of hotspot shield?. I am not sure whether this is the actual problem, Or are there any other possible problems such as a bad network layout. help needed badly
Thanks in advance

You haven't provided enough information to make an informed recommendation.
A high level description of your network connectivity and information about what instrumentation your used to draw  the conclusions you  have from PRTG would be a good start.
You need to ensure that your are capturing information from the right point (or points) to account for all the the load presented to your provider.Typically this would be a Netflow export and/or SNMP query taken from an egress interface at or near your provider handoff.

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 Synchronies, network bandwidth jammed Problem.

I have installed Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 (Standard Edition) in an about 5-6 Laptops, and I am facing issue that while synchronization is going on, my office network bandwidth is being affected. It utilises huge network bandwidth, and because
of that network gets jammed. I have configured using IMAP protocol and using my gmail account in that.
Can any one help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    DIPAK AHIR.

    Hi,
For your first question : YES network issue happen to all Laptops.
I will explain you the scenario, We are having some where about 80 machines (Including Desktops and Laptops) in our office network, all are working under same internet network. Out of this 80 Users We have 5-6 Laptop users who are using Microsoft
Office Outlook 2013 (Standard Edition). All these 5-6 Laptop Users are having different amount of mails (items) as well as folders. Once any of these user starts his / her mail client - Microsoft Office Outlook 2013, suddenly our network bandwidth gets chocked
and because of which my rest of the 80 users are not getting the Internet access. We have to ask them (Laptop user who has switched ON their Microsoft Office Outlook 2013) to close their mail client, Once Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 has been closed my network
gets stable. At first we thought that it is because of mails are getting downloaded from mail server and hence network is getting jammed, so we did another exercise that let their mails gets downloaded to their local machine and afterwords - next time when
they will start their mail client network should not be affected. But this network jammed scenario is still there, hence I ought to raise this issue.
For your information we have tried removing profile, deleted required folders and reconfigured Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 but still issue is being replicated.
Need your help for the same.
    Thanks.

  • How to determine network bandwidth for EP 6.0 implementation

    Hi
can you please guide me how to determine the network bandwith requirment for SAP EP6.0 implementation for smoother operation
    Thanks & Regards
    Ashutosh

    Hi Ashutosh,
luckily network bandwidth is mostly not a problem as long as it is not very small, e.g. a modem dial-up 56kbps connection on client side. To make sure that the server side outgoing line is strong enough, you'd need to do some math and calculate from the expected request volume how much bandwidth you'd need. Some guidance might be taken out of the how to paper under this link:
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/how to perform sap enterprise portal load testing.zip.
Check chapter 2.4 in the pdf file.
For "smooth operation" you'd need network wise not only worry about bandwidth but also about network latency times and sometimes network quality in regard to % package losses or similar. If your end users are more then 1000 miles away you usualy start seeing response time increases from latency times...
The impacts of networking on performance are many, but so are the tuning possibilities. If you have a lot of end-users accessing EP over a WAN, perhaps even over the Internet, and if they do so over long distance you might want to make EP landscape WAN tuning a dedicated task in your project.
In addition the network requirements of Portal are discussed in this paper : http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000757275&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000112&_OBJECT=011000358700003943521999E , chapter  3.5.2 Enterprise Portal.

  • Does BC4J need high network bandwidth ?

    Hi,
Recently i've done some development with BC4J and test it out against another vendor (BEA,IBM).
Our test scenario is using 5 PC, each running some applications.
    for LAN : i run 30 applications in each PC ( 5 PC x 20 applications = 100 Applications Concurrent )
    for Modem 64 Kbps : i run 1 applications in each PC ( 5 PC x 1 applications = 5 Applications Concurrent )
    Problem:
for LAN the result is fine, but for Modem 64 Kbps i have to increase the concurrent applications since the number of applications is still to small( 5 ),when i monitor the network usage,it seems that my application used all available bandwidth (64Kbps) at apprx.7 concurrent applications.
    Questions:
is BC4J need high bandwidth ? or where should i look to tune my applications to use lower bandwidth ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ricky HP

    Hi Shay,
    sorry for late respons..
finally we have finished the POC (Prove Of Concept) session, and comes out with one big question why bc4j require high network bandwidth.
Weblogic team is doing good, they have good performance and good usage of network. But the good news is our client want to use Oracle ADF Framework as their development tools. :)
so here i am, i have to solve about this network bandwidh usage issue.
to answer your question about architecture:
In last POC process,we developed simple client(without gui).
the bc4j components is placed in another linux machine with Oracle 10g Java Edition installed,so the communication between client and bc4j is made through RMI/JNDI,and the communication is made using dial up connection with limited bandwidth network ( 64Kbps modem)
client program is design to loop for several times,to call method in bc4j components.we calculate the time before method is called and after the method is called.
BC4J has good performance but lack in usage network bandwidth.
i've read steve muench tips and tricks for tuning, but seems didn't help a lot in limited network bandwidth environment.
    Any help will be appreciated.
Sorry again for late response and thanks a lot

My daughter has just bought me an iPad 2 from Dubai and set it all up for me but unfortunately the iMessage function doesn't seem to work. We keep getting messages, when trying to activate it, that there is a network connection problem - help!

Thank you both for your responses but my daughter was reassured by the salesman in the iStyle store (official Apple store in the UAE) that iMessages would work but conceded that FaceTime wouldn't. My iTunes account is registered in the uk and my daughter's iPhone has iMessages even though she bought it (and uses it) in Dubai. Can anyone else throw any light on this?

  • Bandwidth Problems

We are trying to use iChat with a grandson in Iraq. We get a satisfactory Picture ( pixelates frequentl but passable) but almost unintelligible Audio. We however had an audio chat with sound as clear as a local phone call. He uses AIM in Iraq on a PC we are using Mac and iChat over here. He has bandwidth problems over there as he notices slow photo uploads and downloads. He is new at this as he just got the CAM for Christmas, does anyone know if there are there bandwidth adjustments in AIM that he can tinker with to try to improve the situation like we have in iChat, or any suggestions to try. (I doubt that adjsuting the speed on the Mac on this side will help!)

    Hi,
On the Mac end it should have System Preferences < Quicktime > Streaming set to 1.5Mbps
In the iChat > Preferences > Video section > Bandwidth Limit it may pay to try 500kbps or 200kbps to limit what you send him.
AIM 5.9 on a PC does have a Outgoing adjustment and I am not sure if changing it will help the incoming stuff but it may free up processor time.
He should start a Chat with you (or you with him)
In AIM 5.9 he has his Preview in a tab behind your incoming Video.
He should bring this to the front (And take off Pic-in Pic if set)
Next to the Pic and on the right he should now have a small squarish iCon
    Click on this
This will bring up a slider.
Sliding it to the left actually reduces the quality of the Pic from his end.
It is not normally visible but what it does do is allow his processor to produce more frames a sec.
If you open the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) in iChat you will see his incoming Frame Rate and Bit rate and as he slides this to the left you may see changes.
If there are no changes then the issue is going to be the Bandwidth at his end.
At this stage I would suggest a Web Browser based alternative like MeBeam
See here items 9 through 12
These use Flash in a Web Browser to allow access to the Camera and Mic
Once you have entered a room name (your choice) it creates a web page with that name and pops up the Flash Control Panel. Set this to Allow and choose your camera and adjust the Mic volume (Use Headphones/headset if possible)
The MeBeam site pops the control Panel up as soon as you enter the room and can be re-accessed via Settings. the other sites require you use the Settings Button first.
    Hope this helps
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Disable "Estimated network bandwidth on one of the connections" check

I have several Windows clients that hang at applying computer settings when starting up. All computers that show this behavior have 2 network adapters. One is the physical adapter another is a virtual adapter created by 3rd party software. Virtual Network
adapter always stays enabled (even if you disable it, it comes right back to the enabled state) and has an APIPA address assigned to it. The OS sees the adapter in connected state and attempts to estimate the network bandwidth on that connection,
but since no traffic is being passed through on this link it's  forced to wait for the time out, which causes the delay. So the question is, how do you exclude a specific network adapter from being checked for bandwidth at the OS start
    up?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    >>One is the physical adapter another is a virtual adapter created by 3rd party software. Virtual Network adapter always stays enabled (even if you disable it, it comes right back to the enabled state
Based on the description, it's recommended that we contact the vendor support of the software to see if they can help disable the virtual adapter or provide some suggestions regarding the situation.

  • How to calculate network bandwidth for dataguard 11.2

    Hi all,
have a customer who needs to setup a new data guard environment in release 11.2.0.2. Primary site will be in Italy, standby site will be in New York.
He would like to know the network bandwidth between primary and standby site needed to obtain the maximum performance in redo transport with or without compression option.
I found a lot of threads and docs indicating some formulas but none of them explained how to:
    - calculate network bandwidth on a rac system (having a single instance standby database)
    - calculate network bandwidth in case of use redo transport compression
    - calculate cpu consumption if using redo transport compression
Could you please give any advice?
    A.M.

    Hi,
customer made ma a lot of technical question just like the following:
    - which are the main factors determining the 30% overhead indicated in the network bandwidth calculation
    Required bandwidth = ((Redo rate bytes per sec. / 0.7) * 8) / 1,000,000 = bandwidth in Mbps
    - how much bandwidth will I gain if I apply redo transport compression and why redo transport compression and why usually the gzip utility gives me 5X less and oracle compression gives me a maximum of 50-60% of compression even if it uses the same engine of zlib compression as indicated below?
Data Guard redo transport compression uses the same zlib compression engine at level 1 as gzip -1. To estimate the compression ratio you can achieve using Data Guard redo transport compression, first compress an archived redo log file with gzip:
    $ gzip -1 <archive redo logfile>.arc
Then use the gzip --list option to explicitly display the compression ratio:
    $ gzip --list <archive redo logfile.arc>.gz
Note: Use gzip version 1.3.3 or later. Refer to www.gzip.org for the latest information on gzip.
Could anyone give me any direction?
    Thank you

  • Network Accounting Problem

I have a serious network accouting problem arisen from content engine:
Our routers are connected to internal backbone router with enabling Netflow to bill the usage (from domestic to backbone) of each users.
However, the CE will affect the network accounting seriously because it will replace the sender IP address with its own address before sending out to the link.
Would you give me some solution to remedy the problem?
    Very Very Urgent!!
    Thanks a lot..

  • Network Extender problems w/Qwest customers during July 2011

I believe I have found the cause of the Network Extender problems surfacing in July, 2011. I am a customer who has been out of Network Extender usage for two weeks now. Read on....
Unbelievably, almost no one at Qwest, Verizonwireless, or Samsung (NE's manufacturer) has any idea what the cause is and neither Qwest nor Samsung knows that a problem exists at all.
After many hours on the phone to all three companies I finally believe I know the cause of the problem. The cause is an updated firmware revision that was pushed to all Qwest customers who use the Actiontec PK5000 modem/router. They have been pushing it out over the last few weeks, so the symptoms have been rolling rather than happening all at one time.
The latest version of the PK5000 firmware is QAP002-3.60.3.0.9.9 When the customer's modem receives that version update (unbeknownst to them), Network Extender is rendered inoperable... the modem does not recognize the NE is plugged into it and does not provide an IP address. The WAN light goes solid red, the GPS goes magenta and the SYS light goes red.
Because Qwest's PK5000 works fine with the upgrade (i.e. both wi-fi and ethernet connections work fine with my Macintosh MacBook Pro), they have no interest in solving my VerizonWireless problem.
Bottom line is VerizonWireless needs to get a patch created "yesterday" and made available to all Network Extender customers who use the Actiontec PK5000 Qwest modem/router immediately. I live in a rural area and despite the fact I've had a VerizonWireless cell phone for many, many years, I'll be forced into changing cell phone providers soon, as will every other NE user who has lost their NE usage because of this problem.
It boggles my mind that no one has figured this out and provided a patch for the Network Extender. Understandably, Qwest could care less this is happening, since their service is not effected. This is truly VerizonWireless' problem.
Now, what can you do??? Call customer service right now and get technical support. Give them the information above and let them know they need to develop a patch for the Network Extender to work with the new firmware (i.e. operating system) of the Actiontec PK5000 modem. It's only when they hear from a bunch of people that they will step up the urgency to find a solution. Thanks!

OK, what's the deal here. I've been having the same problems. Verizon gave me a new extender and I still have the same problem. The week of July 15th everything went dead. I live in downtown Denver and I still can't get service at my house. My network extender is no longer compatible with the PK5000 modem QWEST issued. Firmware got pushed out? uhh... OK that doesn't mean anything to me. Not my problem, but kudos to the gentlemen who figured that out.. Neither Verizon or qwest seem to not want to take responsibility.
So what's next? is there an extender on the market that is compatible with the infamous PK5000? Evidently, the guys @ Qwest I was on the phone with for 45 minutes seems to think it's some type of high speed low drag, technological phenomenon. I'd like to add that if someone from qwest or verizon tech support reads this, I do not have a land line at my house, I have never had a land line at my house so no I can't go to my desktop and troubleshoot the modem while on the phone. just to reinterate I live in downtown denver I do not have cell coverage at my house, and no it's not my house. Everyone in our area does not have coverage.
I've had verizon for over 10 years now and never had a problem. This is the first and biggest problem I had becasue verizon and qwest decided to "bundle" thier service offering...whatever that means.

  • T41 has Network Controller problem

I was given a T41 2373-7JU that I loaded with XP Pro. My problem is it will not  connect to the internet via it's browser. In Device Manager it shows a Network Controller problem and I've been unable to correct this no matter how many different drivers I've tried. Also, how do I tell if there's an internal  wireless card inside?  It did connect to the internet earlier today using my USB adaptor but now I can't even do that anymore. I've tried a dozen or so solutions without any success so where should I go from here?

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Following are the drivers you need for Ethernet and wifi card (and yes, as per support page there's an internal card installed in your system):-
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-62922
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-42683
To install the drivers successfully, you need to run the .exe setups from C:\Drivers.... for each device after the first setup completes.
For ethernet, the setup is in C:\DRIVERS\Win\ETHERNET\PRO1000\Win32 and for wifi C:\DRIVERS\WLLANCSC.
    Hope this helps.
