Network Browser will not open in OSX 10.4.8

Since installing OSX 10.4 when I click the network Icon in the Finder Go menu the Network Browser window appears momentarily then quickly disappears. If I try to click again nothing happens.
This happens on both the G3 iMac and the G4 Powerbook. Both systems were installed from different sources. The G4 system came pre installed and the G3 was an upgrade.
I can connect using Go To Server or thru aliases in the dock to both OSX and the OS 9.1 machines and to my Windows 2000, when it's not being . . . err ... like you would expect a PC to be.
That's mostly the issue. When the PC is acting up (a lot) I would like to try the browser to help troubleshoot.
iMac G3 600mhz slot load, Powerbook G4 1.67ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   PowerMac 6500 250mhz, OS 9.1

Try this even though it says WPA2 and different
symptoms...

No luck on that altho there was a WEP network listed, I assume one of my neighbors.
This isn't a big issue as I can connect to server, it's just that it bugs me if something isn't right

My Safari browser will not open.  It simply says Safari quit unexpectedly.  I can open Google Chrome and browse just fine.  Any idea whats wrong?  I have a MacBook Pro, and I'm using OSX Yosemite 10.10.1

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Firefox "starts" but browser will not open on desktop

When I click to open Firefox min Windows 7, the program loads, i.e., I can see the window on the Aero Bar, but the browser will not open on my desktop. I have redone my profile and that seems to solve the problem for a while, but then the same problem reoccurs. This happened with four different profiles. When I do get the browser open on the desktop, I find a load of error messages in the error console.

    Hello Joseph.
You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal? [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Safe mode] will do it easy, if you can't hope Firefox.

  • After updating to Firefox 4 the browser will not open

I updated to the new firefox 4. Since then the browser will not open. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling but this has not resolved the issue.

I couldn't get it to start at first. Then I found a forum that hade other issues with plugin and firefox 4 where the solution was to start firefox 4 in 32 bit mode and not in 64bit mode. After that it works nice for me.
It might also be useful to change the setting for the time that scripts are allowed to run.
dom.max_script_run_time should be set to higher number than 80 according to the support.
    Good luck!

  • IPhoto (9.5.1) will not open in OSX Mavericks

Grateful for some help. A few months back we had to take our Mac into Apple store because TimeMachine wasn't backing up. They ran loads of diagnostics and said problem was a corrupted OS. We backed up everything and they loaded OS X Mavericks on for us. They then re-loaded everything from our back-up. Everything seemed to work ok except Iphoto which would not open. We called the Apple Support people who talked us through some steps. They couldn't identify the problem but said they could solve it by creating a second iphoto library (2). They did this and whilst it opened ok all of our old folders had disappeared.
However now (few weeks later) iphoto will not open at all. I have tried to access it through the desktop, Applications, finder etc but no joy. I've read through various community conversations and see that there has been problems with OSX and iphoto. I've tried downloading Library Manager Upgrade 1.1. but when I try to run it says my version of iphoto doesn't need it.
    Details:
    iMac 27" Mid 2011, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 (13C64)
    IPhoto V9.5.1
    Any help please!

    Try this:
From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
Select Library from the drop down menu
Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets
Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress
Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)
Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud
Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option
Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder
Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON
iPhoto should now be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. Unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old).
Credit to user photosb189 for that.

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 will not open in OSX 10.5.7

Since loading the latest OSX 10.5.7 update I have not been able to open Adobe Reader. I have removed the version that I had (9.1) and downloaded a fresh copy but it makes no difference - Reader will not open at all. I have tried the reset - again it does not open. Any ideas?

Try removing your cache. You can use Onyx or Applejack to do this.

  • IPhoto 9.6 will not open in OSX Yosimite 10.10.2

    I'm using a MacBook Pro 15inch Early 2011 machine, 2GHz, 8GB RAM, OSX Yosimite 10.10.2.
I have iPhoto version 9.6 and it will not open, just hangs up on the main screen with the little wheel spinning in the middle of it endlessly. No error messages. Program will not start even after several minutes and no other programs running in the background. Any thoughts?

what has changed since it worked?
You can Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • My antivirus found and removed a virus called Hijacker.DosPop_Toolbar, and now Firfox browser will not open, even with uninstall and reinstall?

Delete the Program Files for Firefox and install a freshly downloaded Firefox_setup file.

  • Firefox does not put the file extension ".exe" onto the firefox application, and the browser will not open.

I downloaded firefox 3.6.6 from the website, followed the install directions and the browser does not open. I opened the task manager and firefox.exe was not in the process list. Locating the target using properties from the desktop icon if found that the application file did not have the ".exe" extension that it showed in the icon field for location. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with the same result. I am running windows XP Media Center Version 2002 service pack 3.

This would usually only happen if the originals were .doc, .dot, .docm,  .dotx or .dotm files and someone changed their extensions. Does your Office installation open docx files created in Word 2013? If not, perhaps the Office installation is
faulty. In that case, try repairing the Office installation (via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows Control Panel).

  • Connected to internet, but browser will not open

I have an HP Pavilion  23 All in One.  After a power outage, the browser will no longer open, even though I am connected to
the internet via Wi-Fi.  Except for the internet, all other computer functions are working just fine.
    I am using Windows 8.
Does anyone know how to fix this.  All other computers in the house are working via Wi-Fi without any problems.
    Thx
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Open a Command Prompt and enter "ipconfig/release"  (without quotes)
    Then enter ipconfig/renew
    Also try ipconfig/flushdns and ipconfig/registerdns
Are you using IE? Set defaults in Internet Options, Advanced tab. (See below).
Shut down cable/DSL modem and router. Unplug both from AC power for a couple of minutes. Reconnect devices to AC power and energize.
Still having an issue? Run the System file Checker. Instructions are here.
Run boot time hardware diagnostics on the patient.

  • Mail photo browser will not open using button or menu item

I have a Air 13" and recently installed Mountain Lion. Now the photo browser window in mail (apple mail) will not appear. Not from teh photo browser button on compose email or the file menu item. It worked flawlessly before. Can't find anything online about this.

Same issue on new MBPro having just installed Mountain Lion.

  • After closing a browser window and if I open a new browser window , the browser will not open per my home page in tools/options/startup, it loads the last page

recently when opening a new browser, everything Is using and closed during my last session will open
multiple widows will open and whatever tabs were open per respective windows will open and not per tools/options/startup/homepage
this has never happened until just recently and nothing else seems to have changed nor has any new programs etc been loaded or changed

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default.
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension.
You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • My firefox browser will not open new windows in tabs, but it will do so when I am in safe mode, what should I be looking for?

I want to view new pages in tabs. I thought I had clicked the appropriate option to do so but it continually opens in a new window instead. I have restarted my browser in safe mode and the tabs are there and work normally. What gives? I am not sure how to narrow down the problem here.

Hello rossqo, '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
