"Network cable unplugged/Reset Wireless Adaptor"

I am at my wits end with this broadband wireless connection. I connected my laptop a few days ago when I moved into a new flat. However my sister connected hers a few weeks ago and never had any complaints as far as I know. So we are way past the 10-day stabilising stage. After 2 days of working flawlessly it's acting up again, and when I troubleshoot I consistently get the 2 messages above. I don't understand what this means and what the issue is as it's worked before and my laptop picks up the signal without any problems. The connection just drops and it's often difficult to reconnect. Haven't opened up the phone socket as I'm not entirely confident and it looks a little different. I know my laptop's fine and don'rt understand what the issue is when I have a dial tone and can pick up signal. Please, please help. Thanks!

in order to help further please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

    I recently installed a Netgear DG834GT wireless router and now have an intermittent problem connecting my Tecra 9100 to it. If the 9100 has been shutdown for a while (like overnight), when I restart I always get 'Network cable unplugged' for the wireless connection. Rebooting a number of times (anything from 3 upwards) I eventually get connected to the router and all then works fine for hours. Even a quick restart at this point (i.e. once the wireless card has connected) does not cause a problem but as soon as I leave the machine shutdown for a length of time it fails again at reboot.
    There are no errors in the Event log.
    I am using the built in mini-PCI wireless card and have already upgraded to the latest driver.
    Any ideas gratefully recieved, at the moment each morning is a 20-30 minute frustration of rebooting trying to get my connection working.

    Checking other boards for help (Netgear etc.) it seems that the 'Network cable unplugged' is a common message when wireless connectivity is failing. However, to prove the point, I have disabled the other LAN card (for which I was also getting 'network cable unplugged' but as expected since it was). I still get the same issue with the wireless card, although now the reboots are slightly more predictable - it normally seems to succeed on the third reboot. I guess disabling the other card has changed the startup timing slightly and in that way made things slightly better.
    Again, any other suggestions gratefully received. As this seems to be a timing issue at startup, I am suspicious that one of the other things that runs at that time is causing the problem.

    More info : I have found that this is time related rather than related to the number of reboots. It always fails on the first reboot after being shut down for a period of time. At this point, however long I wait the connection never comes up. However, if I wait a few minutes and then reboot, the second reboot will always successfully establish the connection.
    On this basis, the problem has become slightly less annoying as I have a workaround - boot once, wait a few minutes and reboot. That being said, any information on how I can isolate this further (e.g. tracing what is running at startup) would be gratefully recieved.

    I've  Windows 8 64-bit and want to use the iPhone 5 as my main wireless USB dongle and I've had this problem since Windows 7 where, no matter what I do, the Apple Mobile Device Ethernet comes up as "Network cable unplugged".
    I've unplugged and plugged it back in, reinstalled iTunes, reset the network settings on the phone, made sure everythings up to date and reset the service in Windows to no avail.

    Yes My personal hot spot is on in cellular data on and i have a data plan that allow tethering. that problem is start 4 days before. My iphone is do this job very well few days before.

  • E4200 / Windows 7 Ultimate - Network cable unplugged

    Yesterday two of four computers (both windows 7) stopped connecting to the Linksys E4200 router after several months of continued connectivity for one and the other for about 30 days. Within the Network Connections window the Local Area Connection says "Network Cable Unplugged".
    I am using E4200 Firmware version 1.0.0.1. - Firmware version yesterday when problem occurred was 1.0.0.0, updated based on Linksys Forum suggestions. I continued the updating to version 1.0.0.2, problem remains. I have since down graded firmware back to 1.0.0.1 based on the majority of the posts this version seems to be the most promising. 
    I have powered down, removed mother board battery (pain in the ### to get to) reset bios and still now change in Local Area Connection.
    When I restart the computers I do notice an attempt by the router to connect to the PC but it does not go any further than that.
    I have switched out the cables and tested the old ones on cable testers, everything is fine.
    I have also tried the DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle fix outlined by  "smillio" and it has not worked for me.
    Both computers are experiencing the same exact problem - Both Windows 7.
    I have three other devices connected to the E4200 router which have not experienced any connectivity issues, HP wireless printer (connected wirelessly), XP computer using cat5 and driod phone connected through wireless connection.
    My best guess at this point is that the router went to renew the leased connections and both Window 7 machines no longer connect.
    Please help, going into another day of limited work productivity.

    Try to update the newest drivers of the LAN card installed... For updating the drivers you can follow the procedure:
    # Click on Start --> All programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt….Run and in the run box type "devmgmt.msc" and click Ok...
    # Device manager window will appear and in that check for the LAN adapter.. Right-click Adapter that you want to update and click Update Driver Software…
    # A window will appear asking “How do you want to search for the driver software?".. Click “Search Automatic"...
    # Then click next to update...
    Change the Link Speed and Duplex settings to use "100 Mbps Full Duplex" or "10 Mbps Full Duplex" instead of Auto Detect.
    You can follow the procedure for Reducing the Speed of the LAN Cards
    On the Windows “Start” button, select "Control Panel”
    In “Control Panel”, select “Network and Sharing Center” then click on change Adapter Settings..
    Right-click on the “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties” from the bottom of the menu:
    This will bring up the “Local Area Connection Properties” window.  Select “Configure”
    At the next window, select the “Advanced” tab,
    under “Property” select “Media Type”, and you will see a value list to pick
    “10 Mb, Half Duplex”,  “100 Mb, Full Duplex”, or "Auto Detect".

    FIxed my problem!
    Go to System preferences
    Go to Ethernet
    Go to Advance
    Go to Hardware
    The just make the changes like in the pictures below

  • Network Cable Unplugged issue

    I have a WRT54G v6 router.  My desktop is wired and the internet works fine.  My laptop is connected wirelessly and recently cannot access the internet.
    The laptop can connect to the wireless network successfully but cannot access the internet.  The Local Area Network states "network cable unplugged"  The router is set to WPA personal security.  It has always worked previously until approximately a week ago.  I've tried resetting the router and running it with no security but no success.  I'm running Windows XP on both computers.

    When I plug my cable into the router I keep getting the "Network cable unplugged" error. I reset the router many times, holding down for 30 seconds and still the same error.     On your Desktop computer try to change the Ethernet Adapter card speed and then check.

    I have BT Total Broadband Anywhere Home Hub 2. I have used it successfully on my desktop pc and wirelessly with my laptop. However I went away for 2 months and was unable to use either (everything was switched off whilst away).  On my return the laptop can't connect at all, I just get two grey monitors with a red X and the information 'A Network Cable is unplugged'. I bought  a netbook when away and am having the same problem with that now.
    On the laptop that worked before, on my Network Connections it is showing as follows:

    Hi, the devices you have mentioned are the 'wired' connections.  On most laptops, there are switched you can press to turn on and off wireless, is it posisble this has been done?
    You can check to see if 'wireless network' appears by selecting the Start Button, then click on Control Panel and open, you should see 'Network' (doing this by memory) and open that up, you will see Wired Lan and Wireless Lan.
    If Wireless Lan is disabled, you can right click on wireless lan and enable it, that should work.

  • Equium M50 will not recognise the LAN port - error: Network Cable unplugged

    I own a Toshiba Equium M50 and have problems with the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.
    I used to connect via an 'ADDON' Modem/ADSL Switch and had no problems. I then replaced the ADDON with a 'NETGEAR' DG834G ADSL Modem/Router to gain the wireless port, and since then my machine will not recognise the LAN port. <error: Network Cable unplugged>.
    I know that the cables are OK as I used them with other laptops and had no trouble. I can also plug in a PCI card to connect without any problems. It looks to me as if the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller has a problem with the netgear Modem/Router.
    Anyone out there with a similar experience and some advice/suggestions?

    For me it doesnt show like a LAN card problem but your router is a problem.
    Check the device manager if the LAN card was properly recognized. If there are no yellow exclamation marks so everything is ok!
    You can try to delete the LAN card from the device manager and after new reboot install the LAN driver again.
    The issue has stared after installing or connecting the new Netgear modem router.
    Therefore I would recommend to checking firstly the settings or to update the firmware on this router.

  • Connecting Windows XP to Airport Error: "Network Cable Unplugged"

    Situation: Having bought a new computer I gave my old Airport Extreme (a model I bought about 4-5 years ago; one of the white pointy dome ones) to a friend, and attempted to set up their network. My goal was to connect the apple computers (one 2.16GHz iMac and a titanium macbook) to a wireless connection, and then connect their old wireless-less PC with WIndows XP to the airport with an ethernet cable.
    Problem: The wireless network works fine for the Macs, but when I connect the Airport to the PC with the ethernet cable it says "Network Cable Unplugged", and doesn't connect to the internet. I have swapped the cables, so I know that they're fine, and before I attempted all this the computer was corrected straight to the modem through the same port and worked fine, so it's not the port, either.
    Also, I don't think it's the ethernet port on the airport, as I was using it last week with an iMac and it was working fine. But on this I'm not entirely sure. Right now I have the cable from the modem going to the Airport port with the broken-dot circle, and the cable to the pc coming out of the (only other) ethernet port (with the sign <->). If I swap the ports used (with the modem going into the <-> port) the PC works, but the wireless drops out. So that's no good.
    The PC is using Windows XP, which is quite foreign to me, so I don't know the tricks. I haven't found any other threads on here with a similar problem, so if anyone could give me some advice as to how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated!

    By a "128 bit password," I assume that you mean that you have the AirPort Express (AX) set with WEP encryption...correct? ...and that the Mac is connecting to the Internet without any problems...correct?
    If you turn off encryption, can the PC access the Internet thru the AX?

  • BEFW11S4 ver.3 - NETWORK CABLE UNPLUGGED

    My father-in-law gave me a BEFW11S4 ver.3 router and said that it was working fine.  I downloaded the user guide from Linksys and follwed the instructions to hook it up through my DSL modem but it keeps saying "NETWORK CABLE UNPLUGGED".   I'm trying to hook up my main computer directly and my second comptuer will be wireless.
    I have tried:
    -different ethernet cable
    -loopback test (seems to be working)

    Below is the router set-up
    1. open your Internet Explorer
    2. type - 192.168.1.1 in to the address bar
    3. A Linksys sign in box will open:  user name: leave it blank
                                                           Password:  admin
    4. At the set up tab drop down the first box you see and choose: PPPoE
    5. once that is done a box asking for a: User Name and Password will appear, this is were you will enter in the info from your DSL provider.
    6. go to the bottom of the page and click on :save settings
    7. Go to the status tab and if the Connect button is highlighted, click it. If you are unable to connect you will need to configure the DSL modem for Bridge Mode. This will vary in set-up as each DSL providers set-up screens will vary.
    8. Close out of IE.

    Hi all,
    I just got a brand new T60 today, and I cant connect to the internet using the lan inteface. I can connect wireless fine. 
    Whenever i plug the cable to the port, it stays as "network cable unplugged" this happens connecting it to my gig router or wireless router ports. If i connect straight to the modem it detects the cable and im able to connect. If i conect any other laptop it works fine, just this one having problems.
    this is on windows vista sp1 bussiness edition
    please assist me on this issue

    nevermind. i tried another cable and it worked.  eventho the cable that doesnt work with new laptop, works with other laptops.  oh well

  • Realtek 8139 Network Cable Unplugged

    Can anyone please suggest how I can get this to work. I have installed the latest driver (5.713.121.2009) yet still get a network cable unplugged message. The cable is of course connected. I have not previously used the wired connection, normally use wireless which works OK. I have a Dell 8600 which connects fine using the exact same cable. The device shows as working in device manager. I am running in XP SP3. I have disabled and renabled, uninstalled and reinstalled, run the Lenovo diagnostics. I am at a looss so any help would be appreciated.

  • T400 network cable unplugged even actually it's plugged

    Hi guys,
    I got a network cable unplugged issue from last week on my T400 laptop. No matter the network cable is plugged or not, it always report network is unplugged, and the two lights (green & yellow) at the side of the network cabel socket is always on even if the cable is unplugged. Plugging the same network cable to antoher laptop, no issue on network access.
    Here are what I have tried:
    1) upgraded the device driver (intel pro) to latest one, does not help;
    2) Tried the repair function, but failed;
    3) tried to restore to a point which is one week earlier than the date it stop working. did not fix the issue;
    4) changed the Intel pro to 100Mb full deplex, does not work; but when change to 10MB full duplex, some web pages are accessible, but the data download is always stopped after a while. However, these two days this setting could not access web page any more. It keep acquiring IP address and always says no connection.
    5) With Ubuntu 8.1, shows same issue.
    I also tried the wireless to see whether can accesss the network, it even could not turn on. is the wireless and ethernet on same hardware card? now both wired and wireless out of work.
    Please help to advise the possible causes, solutions or how to diagnose further, thanks very much,

    Depending on the type and model of the router it is able to switch the ethernet ports to power save-mode.
    Some combinations "Thinkpad vs router" do have problems with it. Disable the powersave - mode for the ethernet port(s) in the router-configuration and try again.
