  • IOS 4.0.1 - call drops in 3G network, but not Edge network !?!

Upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.0.1 and have had dropped calls ever since. Never had dropped calls before. Messaging, emails and internet are fine, but all calls are dropped, even with 5 bars! The only constant is that I've been on the 3G network when the calls dropped, so I turned it off and have been on the Edge network for a few days without issue!
I have hard-reset my phone at least a dozen times and even restored my phone. I do not have bells & whistles installed.
Is this a traffic issue on the 3G network? I live in Hawaii, where there aren't tall buildings to block my signal.
    ugh.

Since upgrading to iOS 4 it seems to me that the signal bars are reversed. In an area where I used to get maximum bars, I now only get 1 or 2. In an area where I never got reception at all (no signal zone) I am suddenly getting 5 bars, but guess what - I can't connect to anything, or send anything from there.
Either the latest upgrade has just sent the aerial dotty, or someone at Apple IT messed up when writing the signal strength algorithm.

  • Network call causes app to crash in WP8

I have created hybrid app using cordova. We have 1 post service which gives list of cities. When app hits the service, app gets crashed. This network call working fine in android and iOS.
    Message is :

I made wp8 native app and just wrote above network call. here it works fine and returns list of cities. But in hybrid app it directly crashes app as soon as it hits service.
As app is hybrid, I do not find any way to debug this issue.

Do you have IsScriptEnabled = true in the WebBrowser control?

  • Network coverage drops in and out after upgrading iPhone 4s to ios5.1, Network coverage drops in and out after upgrading iPhone 4s to ios5.1, Network coverage drops in and out after upgrading iPhone 4s to ios5.1

Can anyone please tell me what I can do to fix the following problem....I updated the software to ios 5.1 two days ago and since then my network coverage drops in and out. Very difficult to make recieve calls with this happening every few seconds and near impossible to use the Internet. I have contacted support but got no support as 90 days had just ended. I have researched this problem all over the Internet and am now aware that I am not the only one with this problem after the upgrade. I have reset many times and read every post and still there are no answers...Can anyone please help? I'm trying to run a business and it's impossible with the phone doing this now.

I have been having the same issue for the last two weeks. No real indication as to why it ever began other than I had turned off my router and Airport Extreme Base Station off for a weekend while I was away from my place.
iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, all have no issues at all with my Airport Extreme Base Station. Can stay connected throughout my living room, bathroom, bedroom, no issues whatsoever.
My 5 month old MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Core i7 Airport is sometimes perfect, able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue. Then, for no reason, I won't be able to join my wireless network, or when I can join, I can't pick up an IP address. And then it will connect, pick up and IP, and then it won't browse. No real rhyme or reason to when this will happen, or when it works.
I thought that it was an issue with my MacBook Pro, but then my sister visited with her brand new MacBook Pro 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo, and while a month ago she was able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue, this weekend she had all of the same issues I was having.
My XBOX 360 and MacBook Pro have absolutely no issues with the wired connection. Only my WAN seems to have this issue.
Did you ever find anything more to this?

Why can't I make any calls on facetime, the call drops after saying connecting for a few seconds. I'm using an iphone 5, 32 GB on IOS 6.0.1 over 3G network in Muscat, Oman. Just to be clear, I was able to make facetime call in Muscat about a week ago.

  • Call drop

I am using nokia Lumia 1320 with idea network. I am facing problem with call dropping and no signal. The same SIM using with any other mobile the signal was very good and no call dropping. The problem was facing with this nokia Lumia 1320 only. Pl guide me.

Do you use proper Micro SIM or cut-off one? If the latter, swap it for an original Micro SIM. This should repair your network reception. Also check for updates to improve the overall performance of the device and reinsert your SIM.

  • Call dropped in 10 minutes - 3 times in a row!!

I was on the phone with my cousin and precisely in 10 minutes my call was dropped. This happened 3 times during our 30 minute conversation.
Did anyone else face this issue? I hope this is because of the strain on AT&T's network today with all the new activations.

I'm having drops, not with any certain times. My first call dropped twice.
I'm also having issues with the data side of the network. None of the apps that require accessing the internet work. They all are timing out.
And my phone also has the issue with covering up the black strips on the sides causes signal to fade.
Safe to say I'm ****** about this whole situation.

  • Lumia 720 Call Drop

    Hi All,
I live in dubai I have bought Lumia 720 two handsets, the Mobile seller cut the sim and put into my phone. Now the issue is i normally see 2-3 bars of network signals. Sometime the call drops automatically and when I see the signal strenght at that particular moment it shows one bar of signal.
I have tried to change the network setting to manual converted to 2G and even tried to use the SIM in other lumia 720 but same issue. For the sake of test i put my SIM in as samsung low end phone and the signal strength remains full without any issue.
Can you please advise how to resolve this issue!
    Regards,
    Khurram Shahzad

    This just stinks. :/
A week into the phone and it has to visit a Service Center.
How sure can one be that it is a Hardware Problem and not a software problem? Because the whole day today, I had no issues talking on the phone.
I'll try tonight and see what has to be done.
A point to be added, when using the headphones, I don't have any problems whatsoever.

  • IPhone 4S all incoming calls drop

    I have an iPhone 4S 32GB (White)
It was working perfectly up until the 5.0.1 update.  Now INBOUND calls drop as soon as I answer them, I barely have a chance to say 'Hello' and I get a beep and the call failed message on-screen.
After hours of restoring/resetting/swapping SIM's etc I have discovered that I can replicate this fault 100% of the time by having Wi-Fi and Cellular data active at the same time.  If I leave these both on I CANNOT receive incomming calls as they always fail.
If I turn off Wi-Fi I CAN receive calls.
If I turn off Cellular Data, again, I CAN receive calls.
Leave both on and Im stuffed.
Apple are sending out a box to return it to them so hopefully its just a duff handset and not something that is widespread like a bad chip or firmware as this is a major pain.

same problem , apple store gave me a new phone , set up everything , and didn't help , on both 5.0 and 5.0.1 softwares.. will go to see them tomorow again , expecting product for £500 work properly . 16gb 4s white.

  • Are mutliple database calls really significant with a network call for a web API?

At one of my employers, we worked on a REST (but it also applies to SOAP) API. The client, which is the application UI, would make calls over the web (LAN in typical production deployments) to the API. The API would make calls to the database.
One theme that recurs in our discussions is performance: some people on the team believe that you should not have multiple database calls (usually reads) from a single API call because of performance; you should optimize them so that each API call has only
    (exactly) one database call.
But is that really important? Consider that the UI has to make a network call to the API; that's pretty big (order of magnitude of milliseconds). Databases are optimized to keep things in memory and execute reads very, very quickly (eg. SQL Server loads and
keeps everything in RAM and consumes almost all your free RAM if it can).
TLDR: Is it really significant to worry about multiple database calls when we are already making a network call over the LAN? If so, why?
To be clear, I'm talking about order of magnitude -- I know that it depends on specifics (machine hardware, choice of API and DB, etc.) If I have a call that takes O(milliseconds), does optimizing for DB calls that take an order of magnitude less, actually
matter? Or is there more to the problem than this?
Edit: for posterity, I think it's quite ridiculous to make claims that we need to improve performance by combining database calls under these circumstances -- especially
with a lack of profiling. However, it's not my decision whether we do this or not; I want to know what the rationale is behind thinking this is a correct way of optimizing web API calls.

But is that really important? Consider that the UI has to make a network call to the API; that's pretty big (order of magnitude of milliseconds). Databases are optimized to keep things in memory
and execute reads very, very quickly (eg. SQL Server loads and keeps everything in RAM and consumes almost all your free RAM if it can).
    The Logic
In theory, you are correct. However, there are a few flaws with this rationale:
From what you stated, it's unclear if you actually tested / profiled your app. In other words, do you actually know that
the network transfers from the app to the API are the slowest component? Because that is intuitive, it is easy to assume that it is. However, when discussing performance, you should never assume. At my employer, I am the performance lead. When I first joined,
people kept talking about CDN's, replication, etc. based on intuition about what the bottlenecks must be. Turns out, our biggest performance problems were poorly performing database queries.
You are saying that because databases are good at retrieving data, that the database is necessarily running at peak performance, is being used optimally, and there is nothing that can be done
to improve it. In other words, databases are designed to be fast, so I should never have to worry about it. Another dangerous line of thinking. That's like saying a car is meant to move quickly, so I don't need to change the oil.
This way of thinking assumes a single process at a time, or put another way, no concurrency. It assumes that one request cannot influence another request's performance. Resources are shared,
such as disk I/O, network bandwidth, connection pools, memory, CPU cycles, etc. Therefore, reducing one database call's use of a shared resource can prevent it from causing other requests to slow down. When I first joined my current employer, management believed
that tuning a 3 second database query was a waste of time. 3 seconds is so little, why waste time on it? Wouldn't we be better off with a CDN or compression or something else? But if I can make a 3 second query run in 1 second, say by adding an index, that
is 2/3 less blocking, 2/3 less time spent occupying a thread, and more importantly, less data read from disk, which means less data flushed out of the in-RAM cache.
    The Theory
There is a common conception that software performance is simply about speed.
From a purely speed perspective, you are right. A system is only as fast as its slowest component. If you have profiled your code and found that the Internet is the slowest component, then everything else is obviously not the slowest part.
However, given the above, I hope you can see how resource contention, lack of indexing, poorly written code, etc. can create surprising differences in performance.
    The Assumptions
One last thing. You mentioned that a database call should be cheap compared to a network call from the app to the API. But you also mentioned that the app and the API servers are in the same LAN. Therefore, aren't both of them comparable as network calls? In
other words, why are you assuming that the API transfer is orders of magnitude slower than the database transfer when they both have the same available bandwidth? Of course the protocols and data structures are different, I get that, but I dispute the assumption
that they are orders of magnitude different.
    Where it gets murkey
This whole question is about "multiple" versus "single" database calls. But it's unclear how many are multiple. Because of what I said above, as a general rule of thumb, I recommend making as few database calls as necessary. But that is
    only a rule of thumb.
    Here is why:
Databases are great at reading data. They are storage engines. However, your business logic lives in your application. If you make a rule that every API call results in exactly one database call, then your business logic may end up in the database. Maybe that
is ok. A lot of systems do that. But some don't. It's about flexibility.
Sometimes to achieve good decoupling, you want to have 2 database calls separated. For example, perhaps every HTTP request is routed through a generic security filter which validates from the DB that the user has the right access rights. If they do, proceed
to execute the appropriate function for that URL. That function may interact with the database.
Calling the database in a loop. This is why I asked how many is multiple. In the example above, you would have 2 database calls. 2 is fine. 3 may be fine. N is not fine. If you call the database in a loop, you have now made performance linear, which means it
will take longer the more that is in the loop's input. So categorically saying that the API network time is the slowest completely overlooks anomalies like 1% of your traffic taking a long time due to a not-yet-discovered loop that calls the database 10,000
    times.
Sometimes there are things your app is better at, like some complex calculations. You may need to read some data from the database, do some calculations, then based on the results, pass a parameter to a second database call (maybe to write some results). If
you combine those into a single call (like a stored procedure) just for the sake of only calling the database once, you have forced yourself to use the database for something which the app server might be better at.
Load balancing: You have 1 database (presumably) and multiple load balanced application servers. Therefore, the more work the app does and the less the database does, the easier it is to scale because it's generally easier to add an app server than setup database
replication. Based on the previous bullet point, it may make sense to run a SQL query, then do all the calculations in the application, which is distributed across multiple servers, and then write the results when finished. This could give better throughput
(even if the overall transaction time is the same).
    TL;DR
TLDR: Is it really significant to worry about multiple database calls when we are already making a network call over the LAN? If so, why?
Yes, but only to a certain extent. You should try to minimize the number of database calls when practical, but don't combine calls which have nothing to do with each other just for the sake of combining them. Also, avoid calling the database in a loop at all
    costs.

  • I had to change my sim card due to call drop outs and now i have lost important voice messages. How do i get the messages back?

Please help. I lost very important voicemail when i changed my sim card due to call drop out. How do i get my voicemail back??

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • Call drop when VXML server goes down

Can somebody tell me what should ideally happen in the below given scenario?
We have two media/vxml servers. We have a ACE load balancer which sends calls to these two servers. When the customer call is sent to CVP for self service (VXML application) , if the VXML server is shut down (via the CVP OAMP) , should the call drop ? or survivability kicks in the gateway ?
What we saw is the call is dropped after 2-3 seconds of silence.
We see in the CVP PIM logs that " called party disconnect" event and ends the call. Similarly in the gateway we see the transport down message and discnnects the call. is this correct?
Is there any way to preserve this call and treat it?

    Hi Shravan,
If you had configured survivability then ideally that call should hit the survivabilty. Normally on the VXML Gateways survivability is not auto configured, we would need to configure accordingly depending on the requirement. If survivability is not configured then the call would disconnect
Additionally, could you please let us know the call flow for the self service in your setup
    Thanks,
    Dass
