  • What API i can see network card driver name

    Dear all
in java i/o evirnment what API I can use to call current machine network card driver name?

Well the first step for you is to look through your Windows documentation to see what the library call is to get the information you want. Can you find that and post what you find, and post the full signature of that library call (ie, arguments and return type)?
In other words, here's what you should do: Write a simple C program that gets just the information you are looking for. How that works is outside the scope of JNI, so it's outside the scope of this forum, but once you get that working, post some info about it and I'll explain how to get that linked in with JNI. The good news is, it's easy to do.

  • Do i need a network card to install and run a local java web server

    Friends,
Do i need a network card in my computer to install and run a local Java Web Server or any Web Server.

network cards are only for connecting equipment together... you can set up a webserver without any more equipment than you have already! Indeed Tomcat... BUT you would be better off with apache for production stuff. It depends what you need to serve... if its mainly static pages (i guess it probably isn't) then apache will be enough by itself; but if you need to serve dynamic pages (JSP, Servlet blah blah) then you will need tomcat. Tomcat has it's own webserver and its perfectly ok for testing or low-load stuff, but you can integrate with Apache (a moderately compex task, but do-able, see tomcat-user forum off of apache site) for greater stability, and you don't have to show the port in the URL... Don't set up a webserver on any pc that contains stuff you don't want hacked into... it becomes very succeptible when the service is up...

  • Networking skipped in installing Solaris 9, 10 behind a Linksy router

    Hi, gurus,
I am trying to install Solaris 9 or 10 on a PC on a 192.168.0.0 network behind a linksys router but can not have the networking set up on it.
During the installation, I was prompted for the host name, but I did not have a chance to enter the information usually prompted for, such as IP address, network mask, default gateway, DNS servers, etc. That networking part was simply skipped. The installation is otherwise straightforward, and Solaris runs on the PC, only no networking.
ifconfig -a shows only the lo0 loopback.
I wonder if this is because the PC is on a 192.168.0.0 network behind a router, or because the network card is not recognized. I ran solaris 9 configuration assistant again. The configuration assistant does briefly displays the network card when polling for hardware devices: "Xir com Pocket Ethernet Parallel Port Card".
I found a posting on the internet that shows an example of [successful installation of Solaris 10 on a ldap top with exactly the Xir com Pocket Ethernet Parallel Port Card|http://blogs.pfuetzner.de/matthias/?m=200607] . I followed a few steps and got stuck on the pe.bef thing, which I guess is the network card driver, which I do not have. I searched on the internet, but did not succeed in finding one.
I would appreciate it if you gurus had some advice either on following through that example, or some alternative solution to the problem. Or, if buying a card found in the [hardware compatibility list|http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/sol/components/views/networking_all_results.model.page1.html] would solve the problem, I would buy one. But is the problem due to an unsupported network card, or because of the PC is on a 192.168.0.0 network behind a router?
    Many thanks for your advice!
    Newman

Hi, Michael, and all who happen to know this:
I bought a network card (3CSOHO100-TX, the first one in the [HCL as "reported to work"|http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/sol/components/views/networking_reported_to_work.page1.html] ), but this card does not seem to be any better than the other one.
When running the Configuration Assistant of Solaris 10 3/05, there was not any hint whether the network card was detected. With Solaris 9 9/05, the hardware polling did result in a network card listed among the detected devices. However, in both versions of Solaris, the installation configuration skipped the section for collecting network card configuration information. So I just cut it short and quit the installation when I saw that network part was skipped.
I already have Solaris 10 3/05 installed with the other card (i.e., without any network card recognized), and wondered if the new card can be detected in the installed unix. I searched in the archive of this forum and [found a link|http://solaris-x86.org/documents/tutorials/network.mhtml] in one of the postings. I followed the steps, but the article seems to be for certified cards only. The 3CSOHO100-TX card is not in the /boot/solaris/devicedb/master file.
    My questions are:
    1. Since Solaris 10 3/05 is already running, are there any commands that can be used to detect the physical card, and then get it configured? I checked Craig Hunt's TCP/IP book (3rd Ed), and tried dmesg | grep eth, netstat -in, and ifconfig -a, to no avail. I also tried prtconf | grep pci, and no clue either.
    2. Since this card is in the HCL list, are there any members on this forum who happen to have some experience with the card and can lend some insight?
The PC I am using to install the Solaris is a Dell Dimension 4500.
When the configuration assistant was running there were some messages about resource conflict (two devices using the same interrupt number). I am not good at interpreting the messages, and removed the wireless network card just in case, so there is only one network card in the PC. That did not make it any better either.
    Much appreciation for your help!

  • How to understand network card known by OS

I have solaris 10 just installed...But didnt recognize network and internet...
i have no device seem as hme0...i have only "lo0" when i type ifconfig -a
so how can i understand if solaris knows my network card and installed properly..
    thank you

... it is on the Hardware Compatibility list?
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/
Do you know what Ethernet adapter is in the computer?
Is it a chipset that is integrated onto the systemboard, or is it a separate card?
    Who made the computer ?
Operating systems like Solaris, Windows, Linux, MacOS, etc
do not natively support every chipset that was ever invented.
You may need to download and install driver software.
That software may be from the chipset manufacturer (RealTek, LinkSys, NetGear, Intel, 3COM, for example),
or it may be available from the computer manufacturer (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony as examples),
... or it may have been published by an individual person
that just chose to write their own code when the manufacturer couldn't be bothered.
As a last alternative, you'll need to buy an Ethernet adapter that is compatible.
You will need to provide more information if anyone is going to give more assistance.

  • Virtualbox Win 2000 network adaptor driver

    Hello,
Looking for some advice. I got a new job, and was able to convince them to let me use a Mac versus the typical corporate dell setup. So i got a spiffy new 13" MBP 2.4Ghz.
So everything is working fine, but I need to run a business application that runs on windows only. Since it's an information database, I need to access it via a virtual Windows pane, instead of going with Bootcamp, which I have running with no issues on my personal MBP. So we opted to use Virtualbox since it's a free solution. The IT guy installed VB along with Windows 2000 since they have licenses lying around, but they couldn't get the network card driver working.
My question to the community here, running the same thing, is what network driver should be used for VirtualBox with Windows 2000 as the guest OS?
The IT guy is a part time contractor so he's not doing alot of effort in finding out.
I appreciate any suggestions and pointers.
    thanks,
    Ken

Okay, so the oracle boys directed me back to the virtualbox page, since they don't have a real tech support to call. But I was able to locate an answer from one their forum moderators.
For anyone that may come across the same issue, here's what you do.
having the guest OS (windows 2000) shutdown, go into VB Settings, then Network, and Select "NAT" under the 'attached to:' drop down box. And the the Adaptor Type (driver) under Advanced should be kept as PCnet-FAST III.
    thanks,
    ken

  • New network card

I want to change network cards. Is is possible to change the network card without going through the install process? I would like very much to retain the other contents of the disk. Any suggestions?

I hope you don't mean redo the "whole 3-CD" deal! (I did that twice till I found the right docs).
I read to use "touch /reconfig ; shutdown -g0 -y -i 0" when a new network card is installed. When I boot the file is gone - so I think that is supposed to be, well, less destructive than "sys-unconfig".
There's allways "sys-unconfig ; boot -r" (on my machine booting was automotic!). It doesn't do everything but it will let you re-do the network config screens (it returns mny items to "factory default" state). Better read the manpage first though! It might "factory default" something you've setup!

  • Sudden video card drive error causing freeze

I am using Premiere Elements 11 and suddenly it started to show video card drive error when trying to create a new project or open an existing one. The error says that Adobe detected an incompatible display driver GeForce 9600 GT/PCIe/SSE2 3.3.0 and ask me to update the driver. If I click OK on this message Adobe starts creating or opening a project but freezes. I cannot even close the application as the computer does not react to Ctrl+Alt+Del neither so I have to force restart it. When it freezes I see two Adobe logo at the bottom of the screen in the taskbar as if it would try to open the application twice.
I have the latest video card driver installed: version 340.52. Moreover, Premiere Elements opened and worked without problem before and I have not changed anything in my video card driver before the error started to show up.
Any idea what can be the problem and how to fix it?

  • Boot Camp Windows 8.1 Installation Did Not Install Network Card

I just installed a Windows 8.1 Boot Camp partition on a new Mid 2013 MBA. The install ran the support software and installed the drivers. However I don't show any network cards in my Windows 8.1 installation. I reran the support sw manually and it went through and supposedly fixed any driver errors but I still don't see a network card or have a network connection. It works just fine in my OSX partition, so it is definately a driver issue. *** do I need to do to get the network driver installed?

In Thehatters defence, this was initially posted in the MacbookPro forum and then moved to Boot Camp,
If you have any joy solving your trackpad device driver issue, feel free to post here (there might be a similar fix for my  wireless adapter device)
    Thanks

  • Can anyone tell me how to install a network printer driver without having the network printer online?

Can anyone tell me how to install a network printer driver without having the network printer online? It doesn't matter what manufactors make the network printers. Is a netwaork printer(with network card) has to have that printer on line to be able to install
the driver? This is the point of my question!
I've ask a same type of question previously, but I can't either get good answer nor reply on the response.

    DP
The computer (and driver) have to handshake with the printer, QED it has to be either online or physically connected and if it is physically connected it wont work on the network so yes it does.
