Network Configuration keeps resetting prefs (Three ZTE MF627 Dongle inside)

So I had the problem discussed in this topic (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10239922); I followed Lee Collier's instructions in the 6th reply, and it worked like a charm.
The problem is, when I unplug the dongle or when the connection falls for any reason, Network Configuration resets my preferences and I have to set it up all over again. Any idea why that happens?

Anybody out there with the same problem?
This thing is really annoying.

  • Three ZTE MF627 Dongle

I upgraded to SL yesterday, and today picked up a Three ZTE MF627 Dongle, which I now discover is only compatible with Leopard up to 10.5.2 and so I can't install it! Any ideas as to how to overcome this, whether it is likely to be upgraded in the next few days, or is it useless?
    Thanks
    Andy

I've been able to get this working on my MacBook. The process I used was:
    1. clean install Leopard (not Snow Leopard)
    2. install dongle software and check it's all working, leave dongle plugged in
    3. upgrade to Snow Leopard
    3. in network preferences, delete the 3Connect location
    4. switch to Automatic location and click the + button
    5. add the ZTEUSBModem device
    6. put phone number "*99#"
    7. click advanced, select vendor "Generic", Model "GPRS (GSM/G3)", APN "3internet"
I can now connect and disconnect without using the 3connect application and it seems to be working perfectly. It has the added advantage of not messing up my network settings and requiring reboots as the awful 3connect app did.
With regards to installing on a clean or upgraded Snow Leopard, the issue will be getting the right kernel extensions into the right folders. It may be possible by exploring the files in the 3connect package and manually putting them in the right places. If anyone is desperate for this and if I have time I can try installing onto my Mac Pro and see if I have any luck.

  • Network Lock keeps resetting

HI. I am a newbie here and would like to ask why the Network Lock keeps resetting to the Enabled position. I have friends that I am allowing them to share my connection whilst they are visiting.
    Thanks in advance.

I also have the same problem with the Network lock becoming enabled. Driving me nuts. I guess thats why its called network magic!

  • Itunes with networked library keeps resetting to the c:\ drive

I have a network server connected to my PC via a wireless network and have mapped my shared music folder on this server to my j:\ drive. I selected this drive in itunes. It finds it fine and can access the files etc ok. However, itunes seems to reset itself each time I reboot to the logged on user's "my music" folder on the c:\ drive. I check that the network is oconnected and correctly mapped before I open I tunes, but this keeps happening
Is there a setting I need to change in the programme or the registry that makes Itunes default to the user's "my music" folder on the c:\ drive?
Or is there some other itunes programme that looks for the networked drive in the start-up process, perhaps before it has reconnected, that I need to delete/delay?

Try the iTunes for Windows forum (This is the Mac one - not likely to get much help here!)

  • Network settings keep resetting MTU to 1500

I have recently upgraded to ML on a 2010 MBP
I had the usual N-wifi connection problem* - even after 2 full-up installs, but finally solved it by setting the MTU to 1453 on both my router (Linksys) and in the network settings in MacOS
But now, for some reason the setting is back to automatic, and no changing it seems to stick. when I check back in the settings, after hitting apply, the MTU is back to its default setting.
What is going on here? why won't my settings keep?
*The connection would drop out on N-wifi networks - the wifi would not be connected to the known network

Again, this is something outside the bounds of Windows Server.  Windows Server does not do that.  I looked at default installations of both physical and virtual servers and there is nothing there to cause a sleep or power off.
In fact, the only real power setting I see in the Balanced power plan is to turn off the display after x amount of time.
Do you have power savings enabled on your NIC card?  Is there some setting in VMware?

  • Display screen keeps resetting every 5 miutes

Our business computer is an Imac G5 10.4.11 Tiger. The display screen keeps resetting every three minutes. It just flashes and resets itself. I don't loose anything but it's very annoying. I've reset the pram & nvram with no luck. I've also done all the repairs off the start up disk. Any thoughts?

    Hey Michael,
I brought my Imac up to the Apple Store where we purchased it from. They had Friday & Saturday and called Sunday saying it was done. My wife brought it home and we plugged it in only to find it's still has the same problem. My wife said they went through the entire machine from top to bottom.
I called the store today and had to schedule my complaint with a service tech. I brought the machine up there myself and went through the steps (It kind of scares me when I know more than the kid helping me). I understand they have to learn somehow, I own a door & window company and totally see things from both sides. I asked for a supervisor, explaining I wasn't upset with the other staff person, I was just upset with the computer. I explained to them that I had removed the cover and looked at the capacitors with three of them bulging. I explained I had posted here for some answers and that I'd researched the issue. They told me all about the problems they had with this year and the capacitor issues were only covered for a three year period (I happened to be six months late) They then proceeded to tell me that it would cost me $900.00 to fix. I had to take a deep breath and keep my composure after that one.
My biggest complaint is they had problems with the machines logic board capacitors, but never told us it may become an issue. No letter or even the courtesy of telling us when it was serviced. I own a brand new 20" Imac, the 2005 Imac 20" (problem child), and around 10 other Imac's dating back to 2003, 4 Ipod Touch's, and 4 Iphones. Needless to say I have invested a large sum of money in Apple products. These are the only machines I've ever had since I can remember and I'll always support Apple products. It just really ****** me off when they had my machine in for power supply repairs a couple times and never said a thing to us about possible problems down the road. Now they want me to sack up $900.00 for repairs when I can get a new one for around $1200.00.
I know that these issues arise in every kind of industry. I deal with them all the time, but if I know there's a flaw that will kick my rear end down the road, I''l head it off as fast as I can to avoid angry customers. I also don't have the volume Apple has when it comes to sales, so my issues really have no validity, they have to cut it off somewhere. Is there any other route I can take to try and get this $2600.00 computer fixed without kicking my rear?
By the way, thanks for answering questions, I do it on a couple boards in my industry. I know how people beat you up on certain issues without knowing your doing it for free. I know where your coming from and want to say Thank You for your time!!!

  • Reset WLAN network configuration - What .plist file?

I would like to reset my wireless network configurations, delete all network related preferences and settings and start over. This helped me before to solve a problem that I was unable to connect to a  network at work.
The 802.11x settings won't load the certificate from the domain that will enable me to connect to my corporate WLAN network.
Can somebody tell me which files these were, so that I can delete them and start again.
Any ideas why this keeps happening and what files these are?
Thanks for any replies and all help.

In Keychain Access, search for the certificate. I don't know how you can check if it is loading. You might just try deleting it and reinstalling.
There are functions in the Keychain Access>Certificate Assistant>Evaluate

If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast.  If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used.  The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID .  Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network.  A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default.  Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in.  HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you.  You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files.  Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.

Hello can someone please help? Trying to restore ipod and I keep on getting error message: The IPod software update server could not be contacted. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network is active and try again.

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Remove VSA 5.1 but keep ESXi host network configurations

    Hello,
I ran into problems with a 2-node vSphere 5.1 VSA Cluster not coming online after adding more hard disk and RAM to the physical ESXi hosts in the cluster. After talking with VMware Support for over 2 hours, we exported all of the virtual machine data and powered on the VMs running on just local storage on the ESXi hosts. Now I need to remove the broken VSA Cluster and deploy a new VSA Cluster without interrupting the production VMs now running on local storage.
I've looked at the cleanup.bat file, but am concerned about it resetting the network configurations on each of my hosts back to "greenfield" configurations at which time the VMs would all lose network connectivity.
Can the VSA Cluster be manually removed without causing an outage on the VMs? If so, where can I find those procedures?
    Thanks!

    Hi
Google for the following Subject "[Internal] Manual permanent destructive removal of a VSA cluster (2086522)"
Following this Article I removed an VSA-Cluster and did a brownfield Installation with Networksettings all be there.

  • Download connections doesn't close after I cancel the download, it keep like I am download and only close when I disable the network adapter or reset the router or the firewall

download connections doesn't close after I cancel the download, it keep like I am downloading and only close when I disable the network adapter or reset the router or the firewall.
I use pfsense as my firewall and see the traffic not reseting to zero when I cancel download.
Also, IE doesn't have this problem. When I cancel the download the traffic drops to zero.

And this problem seems to be systemwide. Since I created a new user and under which problem still exists.
Hope apple will look into it

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.
