Network Configuration Window Freezes When USB NDIS Internet Connection Sharing and Ethernet Port Are Used Simultaneously

Current Setup:
Asrock Extreme 4 Z77 mobo with built-in Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet.  Windows 8 Pro. Intel i5-3570k (using onboard Intel 4000 HD Graphics).  RAID0- 2 OCZ Vertex 4's.
I will refer to this setup as my tower.
The Ethernet port works fine by itself.  When I use wired tethering with my Android phone (Droid 4 running on 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich), it works fine when nothing is connected into the Ethernet port in the mobo.
The issue arises when I try to connect both simultaneously.  The network configuration window in windows basically freezes and I cannot really navigate it without a ~60 second delay at best.
I would like to be able to accept the internet from my Android via a USB tether and either bridge the connection or use the internet connection sharing service to route traffic through the unused Ethernet port on the mobo (either to another computer/xbox
or more desirably a switch/router to spread to the entire home network).  I have extensively researched the issue of Windows 8 become slow and unresponsive when I attempt to do this and I have not found anyone with the exact problem.  I am able to
do both the MAC bridge miniport (bridge 2 connections) and Internet Connection Sharing though a Windows Vista (home premium) Laptop I have. The difference between the laptop and the tower I am try to do this on is the laptop has a WIFI and Ethernet connection
while the tower only has the on-board Ethernet.
Do I have all the necessary equipment to accomplish this, or do I need to buy a PCIe WIFI card?  If so could I get away with just getting a USB WIFI dongle?
Any help would be very appreciated.

I had the same problem and came here by searching.
Per Rosengren's method solved the problem, but he didn't say how to do it, so I'll try to explain step-by-step for anyone that may venture here.
Open Device Manager (right click on Computer > Manage > on the left side, under System Tools choose Device Manager)
Choose the problematic device in Network Adapters (for me it's called HTC Remote NDIS based device)
Right click on it and choose Update Driver Software...
Click Browse my computer for driver software
Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers
Uncheck the box Show compatible hardware
For the manufacturer, choose Microsoft Corporation
Now you will have two options:
- Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device
- Remote NDIS Compatible Device
I chose the second one and it solved the problem, but if it doesn't work you could try the other one. In my case, the driver that was being used was neither of these, but a special driver from Android SDK ADT bundle.
Pick one and click Next. If a dialog comes up, confirm by clicking Yes.
Wait a few seconds for the connection to restart. If it doesn't work, try disabling and reenabling USB tethering on the phone, or reconnect the USB cable.
I should also note that I'm using a custom Android ROM on HTC Wildfire S (unofficial Cyanogenmod). If you have a stock ROM with HTC Sense, maybe this method may not work and you'll need a proprietary HTC driver.

  • Internet Connection sharing and HTTP traffic

    Hello anyone,
I have a late 2009 iMac and a late 2008 MacBook Air. I connect to the internet via a ADSL PPPoE modem, which is connected to the iMac via ethernet. I've set up the iMac to share the ADSL connection via AirPort to the MacBook Air, with WEP protection (it's either WEP or no protection at all, so I have to stick with it). Before the OS X Lion upgrade, everything worked fine (the iMac used Snow Leopard and the MacBook used Leopard). Now I have upgraded both comptuers to Lion: the iMac works flawlessly, but the MacBook Air is unable to get HTTP traffic from the iMac. IMAP, Skype, ICMP, XMPP and other protocols works fine but HTTP has some problems. First of all, I can get some web pages (either via a browser or curl), like Google and Google-owned sites (YouTube, Orkut, Blogger...), Macworld.com and some Italian sites, but if I try other sites, all I get is the browser to load something forever. If I ping these sites, they reply normally. If I try to get (for instance), Yahoo's homepage with curl all I get is a blank file (and curl shows that 0 bytes were transmitted/recieved). This problem is shown with every device I use via Wi-Fi, such as iPod touch, iPhone and another MacBook (with Snow Leopard on).
So I guess there's some problem in iMac's Conncetion Sharing... has anyone a suggestion?
    Thanks
    Simone

I no nothing about Windows. Nothing.
    But to configure your Mac to share an ehternet to wi-fi connect follow these steps;
My Mac mini is connected to the internet by Ethernet cable to my ISP's Arris gateway. I am sharing the Ethernet connection to two iPod Touches, an iPhone and now an iPad 2 over AirPort from my Mac mini.
    1. In Sys Prefs/Sharing I highlighted Internet Sharing (do not check the box)
    2. Share your connection from: Ethernet (from the dropdown menu)
    3. To computers using: AirPort (check the little box)
    4. Press the button AirPort Options...
    5. Name your Network
    6. I use Automatic for the channel
    7. I encrypt my network using a 40-bit WEP key
    8. For a non-Apple device, like a Windows laptop or an XBox, you must use only a 5 alphanumeric character, 40-bit WEP password or only a 13 alphanumeric character, 128-bit WEP password
    9. Press OK
    10. Check the box for Internet Sharing
    11. Answer any dialog boxes that pop up

  • Finder freezes when I try to connect to my ethernet 500GB hard disc

Hello there, I hope you can help me with this major problem:
For a month my powerbook connected fine to my external hard disc with an airport connection. But recently a problem occured: whenever I tried to connect to the external disc Finder froze after I gave my username and password.
My disc is divided in three shares and normally I get the option to choose wich share I want to access. Now I got the beachball forcing me to do a hard boot.
Maybe because of several hard boots I'm having problems with other programs: I cannot access in the system preferences panel: Accounts, Security (fileVault) and the Network Share folder (i'm not using an English OS and I don't know the english translation)
Other programs than don't open: Activity monitor, Mail and maybe some others that I still don't know off.
Disc Utility opens but gives beachball. I ran Disc Utility from the installation DVD and restored permissions, but it doesn't help me any further.
    Help appreciated
Titanium Powerbook G4 15in 1,25Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   belkin wireless router | LaCie 500GB ethernet disc mini

Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Turn off WiFi as well.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Hopefully the iPad will see your home network now so go back to Settings>WiFi>Tap on your network name>enter your Password>Tap Join.

  • Internet Connection Sharing and NFS route problem?

My new box is yet to gets its wireless card so following the wiki I have painlessly set up ICS - this works great.  The ICS host connects to my wireless router on wlan0 and to the ICS client on eth0.  The ICS client attaches on eth0.
From the ICS client I can ping eth0 and wlan0 on the host and also the router but I can't access the NFS shares on the host - should I be able to access them on both wlan0 and eth0 - even if I bring down wlan0?  I'm guessing I need another iptables rule...

I'm not quite sure I understand whats happening here....  So here is a "diagram":
    ICS cli --- eth0 ---> ICS host --- wlan0 ---> router ---> internet
Yeah?  From this, there is no reason for wlan0 to affect NFS from cli to host, assuming everything has been set up properly with the routing tables.
If you disable all iptables stuff (which is how I'm assuming you have the routing working), does NFS work?  Have you set up your /etc/exports properly?
Can I see your iptables stuff as well?
And on a side note: I recently chucked NFS in favour of sshfs, it's much better for me personally.  Considered that?

  • When trying to use my banking apps I get the error "Network Required  This application requires an active Internet Connection.  Please try again"

When trying to use my banking apps I get the error "Network Required  This application requires an active Internet Connection.  Please try again".  This happens with two different apps from two different banks.  One of them works occasionally and have not figured out why.  I have cell signal and I am on a strong WiFi network.  Same thing happens when I turn off the WiFi too.    I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the app with no improvement.   I can't seem to find any setting that would cause this.   Does anyone have any suggestions?

I can access the internet just fine in the browser and i can use any other app i have.

  • Window freezes when Product category selected via match-code (search help)

    Hello Experts,
I am using SRM 7.0 Extended Classic Scenario.
I maintained a product category hierarchy in the SRM environment.
I maintained the GL Accounts related, the tax determination, the source system etc.
I did all this customizing in a Development environment where everything was working fine.
Now I just transported all this to a Quality environment.
And in the Quality I am facing the following issue :
If I select a product category via the match-code (search help), after the category is selected, the window freezes.
I have to shut it down manually using the Windows Close button.
However, when I type the category number, everything works fine.
Do you have any idea what could be causing this issue, and how to fix it ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sofiane

    Hello,
We have the exact same issue in SRM 7.0 Extented Classic Scenario. This was working fine before we installed the latest support package 11. Which support package do you have?
The same problem occurs with every drop down menu (search help) in EBP. For example when creating a new shopping cart, if I try to add approver, the same thing happens. After clicking 'Approval Process: Display / Edit Agents' > 'Add Approver', the window freezes. Same thing happens with IE8 and Firefox 3.6.13. Could you also try the same?
Could it be a new bug in SP11?
    Thanks and best regards,

    Please clarify "USB Modem."
Is this a dial-up connection modem?
Is this a wired cable or DSL modem that sits on the desk with a wire running to a USB port on your computer?
Is it a wireless USB adaptor that plugs directly into the USB port?
If a wired cable or DSL modem, a USB connection to a modem seldom plays well with Macs; usually very slow at best. Freestanding modems should have an ethernet port. Use it. Fast and reliable. If your ISP left you a modem with only a USB port, get them to exchange it for one with an ethernet port. Don't take no for an answer.

  • After the Airport update today, Airport Utility no longer sees my new Extreme or my 2 new Airport Express relay stations (same network); however, my internet is working and all Airports are green?

After the Airport update today, Airport Utility 6.0 no longer sees my new Extreme or my 2 new Airport Express relay stations (same network); however, my internet is working and all Airports are green?  I'm running Lion on my iMac and updated when Airport Utility prompted me to do so a few hours ago.  After applying the updates is when Airport Utility stopped seeing my routers.  But they are working?  Thoughts?

Did you remember to completely power cycle the entire network?
You would want to do this after any update or change to the network.
If you did not do this yet......things are out of sequence.
Power off everything on the network.....all devices.....power down order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first and let it run a minute or two by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Work your way out on the network starting each device about a minute apart
    Check the network

When I plug my iphone 4s into the usb in my car, text and notifications sounds are gone.  The phone only vibrates, no sound.  The ringer works fine, and the music plays through the stereo system just fine.  When I try to turn up the volume, the ringer shows on the screen, but it will not increase in volume.  When I unplug the usb, everything works fine.  I have tried different cords and different cars, all with the same result.  This only happens in the car, when hooked up to the usb in the house or to the computer, everything works fine.  When plugged into the car, the sound disappears.  Any ideas?

  • Windows 8.1 Group Policies For Internet Connection Sharing?

Are there any more detailed policies available other than simply allowing or blocking Internet Connection Sharing?
I need to find out if there are policies allow management of Internet Connection Sharing?  For instance we would like to allow ICS, but control it so that it cannot be set up by the user in unsafe manner.
We would like to either set the PSK password in advance or at least disallow weak ICS WPA passwords.  It would also be a good idea if we could set up ICS so that only domain joined computers from our domain could join the ICS session from another computer
on our domain or else disallow direct access and file sharing between the ICS host and the guests joining the ICS network.
Can these types of things be managed via group policy?

  • Admin gets the following message while trying to update software: None of the selected updates could be saved. A network error has occurred. Check your Internet connection, and then try again. Any suggestions?

I'm the Adnin. just recently I tried to update system software (Lion OS). The following message was returned. None of the selected updates could be saved. A network error has occurred. Check your Internet connection, and then try again. but I have internet access )email, Safari, etc.). Any idea of what is happenening?

The error may be at Apple's end rather than yours. It could also be due to corrupted files on your computer. Try deleting the following:
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    Restart your computer.

First, try a reset: hold down the home button along with the power button until you see the Apple, then let go.
