Network Connection Problem Since 10.4.6?

It seems before the firmware or even before 10.4.6, I could turn on my mbp, it would connect to the wireless access point and away I would go.
But now, opening a web browser, nothing comes up. I have to disconnect the network connection and reconnect (maybe a couple times) before it will be connected.
I am using a Linksys access point (WRT54G)
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I came upon this earlier:
So I reinstalled OS X.4.5 and it fixed the problem BUT I then applied the patch to X.4.6 and the problem came right back.. So, what is the deal, I'll tell you. For some reason, after installing X.4.6 OSX corrupts your saved WPA/WEP password in a cache. So when you initially connect it doesn't work, but after you turn it off, then on again, it fetches the uncorrupt password from the keychain and it works. Want proof? Ok, do this:
- Go to System Preferences
- Click Network
- Highlight AirPort and click Configure
- Choose "By default, join: Preferred networks"
- Select your access point and click edit
- Click on "show password"
At this point you should see a crazy corrupt password.. Proof that it is jacked up. Now:
- Exit that window back to the access point list
- Remove your access point with the "-" button
- Launch your keychain and delete your access point keychain entry.
- Reboot
- Go back to the "By default, join:" page and click the "+" this time to add your access point. Enter the correct password, save, reboot, BAM, FIXED!

  • Network connection problems, please help!

I have had an iPod Touch (4th generation) for over a year now and it worked fine. Today, something went wrong with my network connection. One moment it says that I'm connected to a network, and a few seconds later it says I'm not connected... Then a few seconds later it's connected again. I have full wifi bars, and it does it throughout my whole house. The wifi symbol keeps going on and off. I tried turning my Verizon Westell Model 6100G Modem off and back on because this normally fixes my wifi connection problems. This didn't work. Then I tried turning my iPod off and back on. This didn't work. I tried turning the wifi off and back on. This didn't work. I tried forgetting my network and signing back in. This didn't work. I also tried resetting the network, and this didn't work either. I'm not having any connection problems with my laptop, it's working fine. It's only my iPod. I'm still able to use the wifi, but for a split second, it will not work. I'm not sure what else to do. It's very annoying! I'm going to see if it does this at other peoples houses with their wifi. Can any one tell me what's wrong and how I should fix it? My only theory is a broken antenna...Please help! Thanks!

I have two things you could try.
    1. Plug your iPod into the host computer that which the network is based around because sometimes the network has trouble identifying a device if it has been a while since you plugged it into the computer.
    2. Find some way to get your network information (IP address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS numbers) from another device on the network (e.g. laptop). Then go to Settings > Wi-FI and find your router and tap the blue arrow to the right of the name and tap the tab that says "Static" and enter this information accordingly. Then exit back to the network names menu and re-enter your passcode for your network (assuming you have a passcode)

  • New logic board and network connection problems

My late 2007 MBP just had a new logic board installed. I have home and work wireless networks that are configured to connect automatically. This always worked flawlessly in the past. My MBP would find the network, connect and all was well. Since I've had the new logic board I'm having issues. The wireless network will be detected but an IP address is not assigned so I can't get on the network or internet. Both my home and work networks were set to assign a specific IP address to my computer. The MAC address detected by the router is correct, at least according to System Preferences.
The only way I can connect is to disable the firewall (Allow all incoming connections). When I do this I connect immediately to the network and everything works as normal. I can even turn the firewall back on and everything will be fine, that is until I leave work and turn the computer on at home. Then I have to go through this again. And then again when I go to work in the morning. I've tried deleting my router profile and resetting from scratch, deleting the network profiles in System Preferences and re-detecting. I don't know what else to try. It's an annoying problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Kevin

I think I have it fixed. One of the solutions I read about had to do with the 10.5.7 upgrade. I have always installed the smaller upgrades, not the larger "combo" upgrades. One tip suggested installing the full combo upgrade because, among other things, it re-creates two specific files that control how the computer interacts with the network. I installed the combo upgrade last Friday and connected without difficulty to the network at my office this morning. If I connect just as easily when I get home tonight I will consider the problem solved.
    Cheers!

  • Massive wireless connection problems since airport client update 2009-001

    Hi,
I have a brand new MacBook Unibody 2 GHz with 4 GB RAM and an OSX installation up to date. Since the update of the airport client software 2009-001 on March 4th, I have MASSIVE problems to establish a working wifi network connection.
I use as APs a D-Link 614+ with up to date router firmware, a ZyXel Wireless Lan Router 100 (some ISP bulk router from my provider) with up to date router firmware and an AVM 7170 Wireless LAN router with up to date firmware. The last one is extremly expensive and state of the wifi art.
First of all, I can not establish a stable connection to no one of my wifi routers. After entering the passphrase for WPA, an established connection fades out in 20seconds-3minutes. And trying to establish a connection lasts minutes! Mostly OS X is telling me "Out of time". But in wireshark there is in due to my research mostly no packet transfer over the en1 wifi device at all! The airport card sometimes is fooling around with me!
I tried serveral configurations with all my routers differing in encryption (Wep->Wpa->Wpa2) or TTL of the packets or whatever the router is configurable. But I could not solve this problem for me.
Wifi is like dead.... not working reliable... or not working at all.
I have also used Wireshark to get into this problem. With start of an connection with EAPOL, it lasts serveral seconds till the airport card replies to the AP. Airport should response in milli seconds.... but no!
Then DHCP handshake sometimes finishes succesfully, but the airport card turns the correct ip address into a wrong ip address.
MacBook: 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.0 Request "give me an ip"
AVM Router: 10.255.128.1 to 255.255.255.0 ACK "TAKE 10.255.128.25"
You would think the airport card would take the given 10.255.128.25, but no it takes 192.168.0.100 and can not establish an internet connection, OF COURSE!
What the **** is the airport client firmware doing while takeing the wrong IP adress, which is not given by the DHCP Server?
And I have also discovered, that the airport card is sending out tons of ARP requests like:
MacBook: MacBookMacAdress to Broadcast ARP "who has 10.255.128.1?" (my avm router)
AVM Router: AVMMacAddress to MacBookMacadress ARP "I am at ....."
But hey, the airport card seems not be able to understand the avm reply and requests again immediately uncountable times!
Apple, please fix your airport client software. It seems to me the parser within the firmware for packet parsing has some kind of dead locks or sth else.
This are just three hints for the firmware developers.
    PLEASE FIX THAT!

I don't know if this will fix your problem or not but it fixed my airport from self assigning ip's instead of taking the proper one.
Florida dude from this thread http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=24540&page=5 says
"I've been having the "self assigned IP" problem now for a bit. It all started when I let the battery run down, and I've been working with it now for a couple of weeks (except it affects ethernet AS WELL as airport).
I've found a temporary workaround. Go to Security in network preferences, and select firewall. Then select "allow all incoming connections". Go back to the preference pane, and select network. After about 15-20 seconds, it DHCP should assign a good IP. Then go back and reset your firewall.
Works ok, but if your Mac goes to sleep, you need to repeat."
Give it a shot, it worked for me.

  • Wireless network connection issues since last security update

    Hi All,
I've run into an annoying problem since I applied the last security update.
I've locked my wireless network a home down pretty tight. One of the settings I set is the "don't broadcast SSID" for that tiny bit more of security.
Since the last security update my MacBook doesn't connect to my wireless anymore. There are two ways I can get it to connect:
    1. Manually tell it to connect by resupplying the SSID and the WPA key info.
    2. Reconfig my wireless to show it's SSID, connect, tell wireless to hide it's SSID. I then lose connection but have a few seconds that the MacBook "knows" the wireless exists and I can select to connect to it from the wireless icon in my top menu bar.
Anyopne run into this issue and know a fix? Getting annoyed of having to do this every time I boot. Especially as I needed to change my WPA key into something I can remember instead of the 56char key I used to have
    thanx

Thanks Eric! Since changing this setting last night, all has been ok

  • Network connectivity problems on a Lenovo ThinkPad T60p

    Greetings,
I am having connectivity problems with my Lenovo Thinkpad T60p. And I would really appreciate some help.
I know both ethernet connectivity and WiFi connectivity work because if I boot with different OS, I can access the network. So this is not a hardware problem. It is a software problem...
I have uninstalled the existing Ethernet and Network drivers by removing them from:
    1. The Control Pannel -> Add/Remove programs
    2. The Control Pannel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager
    3. The directory level in C:/devices/win/ethernet etc.
I have downloaded the drivers again. Re-installed. Same issues.
I see both card in The Control Pannel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager . The Wireless card is
ok. The Ethernet card shows a yellow alert sign.
At boot time I get a message indicating a service cannot be started but the the system logs show no related errors.
As far as wireless, the network card appears, in the Network tab of the Windows Task Manager, but the status
is "Non Operational". I can see the networks around me, but I cannot connect, even when there is no encryption. This might be the first one to fix, since it will give me mobility even if I sacrifice speed and open myself to hacking.
As far as ethernet, I see the network card DOES NOT appear  in the Network tab of the Windows Task Manager, but as I mentionned before, I know that there is a problem with that.
I hope someone can help me with this. The only other options I have are re-install the OS, install another one, or take the machine in for service, something I am reluctant to do, as I claim to be an IT professional for 30 years and that I can fix other people´s machines...
    Thank you.

    Solved!

    Hello,
    The ThinkPad T60p (2007-8EU) looks like a decently-configured ThinkPad:
    2700(2.33GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5200, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Cingular WWAN, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
The TPM driver is used to communicate with the T60p's integrated security module.  You can download the latest version of the device driver from here on Lenovo's support site.  Although listed as being for Windows 2000, XP and Vista, I believe it works just fine under Microsoft Windows 7 as well.
My working hypothesis is that removal of the third-party firewall damaged the network settings in Windows.  That's a problem that periodically comes up with the various security software packages from different vendors.
What I would suggest at this point is the following:
Check with the third-party firewall vendor to see if they offer a manual uninstallation program to uninstall the software.  Download that and run it per their instructions, booting into Safe Mode, if necessary.
When that process is complete, try resetting the network stack by issuing a "NETSH INT IP RESET RESETLOG.TXT" command per Microsoft Knowledgebase Article # 299357 "How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".  The article is applicable to Microsoft Windows XP SP3 and later.
At this point, you should be free of any services, device drivers, NDIS intermediate drivers, WinSock LSPs or other objects from the third-party firewall software, and all network connections should be restored to their default values.

  • Network connection problem

This is the error message I get when I'm attempting to order the book I've created, "An error occured while uploading one of your files. Please check your network connection and click Retry to send your file."
My network connection appears to be working fine. Several clicks on retry are unsuccessful.
    Any ideas?

The best way is to check if you have a firewall software running (Norton Internet Security for example). This has to be disabled. Also in System Preferences disable the Apple Firewall temporarily. Then please check if you have anything like "iClean" or "Spring Cleaning" or such, in short: if there is any Internet Security software running this might prevent your data going out.
Also one thing might be helpful: Back up your complete iPhoto Library folder to an external hard drive using a backup software like "deja Vu" or such. Then delete the original iPhoto Library and restore it from the backup volume. In my case this helped, but I cannot give a guarantee, of course. I hope Apple works on this problem.

  • MacBook Pro Network Connectivity Problems

    Hi everyone!
I am baffled with an issue connecting my MacBook Pro to the internet.  My wifi worked okay until about two or three months ago, when it stopped being able to automatically connect to networks.  I simply used my phone to pick up the IP/DNS information, and then entered it manually into network settings.  Then, last month, that solution stopped working, and I am unable to connect to any network via wifi or Ethernet, even when manually entering IP information.
I have restarted my laptop and router multiple times.  Reset the PRAM.  Created a new location.  Deleted and added the network again.  Deleted network settings in Library.  Symptoms are not present on other wifi devices – other laptops and devices connect fine.
    I am running OS X 10.8.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

If you're still on 10.8, then you need to update to 10.8.5 (which, itself, has some bugs) in order to rule out the bugs found in 10.8 through 10.8.4. Use the Combo updater -> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1676.
If, after updating, your connection problems persist, call back. There's no guarantee that updating is going to 'fix' your problem.

  • Wireless network connect problem for B209 printer

Install went great until I tried to connect to my network. Got the following (weird) message.
" Your printer has limited connectivity. Your printer address is using IP address 169.254.209.180 which is not compatable with IP address 192.168.1.100 for the PC. Power off your printer and then power on and wait 60 seconds for the printer to acquire an IP address. Then Click retry"
I installed on a XP/SP2 Home system. My other PC's are a XP/SP1 Home system and a Vista/SP1 Home Premium.
What does that message mean and how can I get back on track.
I did suceed in installing using the USB connection.
    Any help is appreciated!!!

What that means is that your printer is not connected to your wireless router.
Since your USB connection is working, follow the directions (Change the HP Photosmart from a USB connection to a

    Emermax Powersupply
    Generic DVD ROM

    MSI TV @nywhere
    WinXP Home SP2
His computer has been working more or less perfectly, although the TV card occasionally causes some trouble.  Today, he was no longer able to get on the internet.  From both the Network connections and Device Manager screens, his LAN interface is gone.  Only the 1394 interface shows up.
So far, I did a system restore to last week, which had no effect.  I made sure the BIOS hadn't disabled it for some reason, too, but that isn't the problem.  I manually installed the network adapter, and it said that the device could not start, error code 10.  The network adapter will not work in Safe Mode with Networking, either.  I tried the MS Knowledge base article regarding missing LAN icons, but that article was for situations in which the icons were gone yet everything still functioned, so it didn't really apply.  Reinstalling drivers had no effect.  I can ping localhost, but that could just be because the 1394 connection can act as an internet connection.
Any ideas?  I've not done a repair of Windows on the machine, but I'm not sure that would help.  I do have an extra network interface pci card I could put in if it is simply a problem of his onboard connection having died.  If I do this, is there a particular PCI slot that I should preferably use to avoid IRQ conflicts?

As far as I know drivers can be installed in SafeMode, but your LAN wont work till in normal.
A repair install is not a bad idea, as Windows is very fond of its own drivers.
LAN and sound problems are often early signs of a PSU near the end. You wouldn't know the specs of the Enermax? I guess it is alright, but you never know.
As the TV-card is problematic, try that one in another slot. Nowadays devices happily share IRQs without problems, but some older devices including older mobos (which is not the case here) were very conservative. ...I'll have to look in my drawer, wait a sec, please. - -  --
"The use and sharing of IRQs aren't mentioned in my MSI manual, (due to the APIC function I think), so I had to go to some ASUS manuals. As standards are standards, I believe things can't be to different. If someone has any addings or suggestions please come forward, so I can adjust the table.
*Please note that this is generally speaking and mainly for ASUS boards a few years old!
**Please note that you should not have any sharing with the IDE controller or similar!
***Please note that it is a good thing to have expansion PCI sound cards in slot 3!
****Please note that surprisingly enough it looks like PCI slot 2 would be free for any device, but AGP cards get hot and bigger so it is not a great idea.
    IRQ sharing table
PCI 1 shares with PCI slot 5
