Network connection was lost for the file

Indesign CS4 6.0.6
2012 27" iMac
OSX 10.8
My InDesign has been crashing and I get the following two error messages.
"The network connection was lost for the file...
"Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents."
As a result of the crash my Indesign file get deleted as well as the parent folder and all of its content including various file types. This has happened twice to me now, luckily I am running hourly backups but it is still extremely frustrating. I am not sure if this is a problem with the Adobe software or my mac server, but I thought I would start here first.
Thanks for any help that you can offer
- Katie

"Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected."
Normal, but arguably unacceptable behavior with InDesign if the network hiccups or stops while working accross a network. Adobe/InDesign does not formally support network work, which is insane in the typical environment.
The loss of a file or folder is not typical.

I assume that you mean home computer and not a hope computer?!?
Given that you are not on a network or assume you mean at least the file(s) you are working on are not network-based, one other possibility comes to mind.
Are your documents on an external hard drive, connected by either USB or IEEE1394 (Firewire) connections? If so, such drives are sometimes configured to go into “sleep mode” after a certain amount of time of inactivity where that inactivity time may range from a few minutes to hours. A “sleep mode” essentially keeps the disk drive's controller electronics alive, but powers down the rotating disk completely. When you attempt to subsequently access such a drive again, the drive exits the sleep mode and the rotating disk is restarted. Depending upon the disk model, age, and condition of the disk drive, such start-up can take upwards of 20 to 30 seconds in the worst case (I've personally seen this!). What may be happening is that the underlying disk device driver or the operating system may report this condition back to the application (in this case InDesign) as a failed or timed-out operation. InDesign doesn't know whether a “disk operation” is to a local disk drive or a network drive and as such, could yield a message about network failure.
Two notes: (1) Internal disk drives also can have a sleep mode as part of a “energy saver” configuration and (2) Disk drives with a sleep mode can also be configured to never go into sleep mode.
My advise would be to check you computer's energy saving settings to see if disk drives are shut down by the operating system during a certain period of inactivity. If so, disable that. If not and especially if you are using an external drive, the disk manufacturer, such as Seagate, Western Digital, etc., typically have stand alone utilities for low level disk formatting, diagnostics, and also for setting of disk sleep modes.
Let us know if this is what may be behind your problems.

  • Adobe InDesgin CS6 "The networks connection was lost for the file, name of file, or the file was modified by another process. Then the document just spins and spins until we force quit. Very frustrating. What can we do to fix this?

Running on Mac OS X 10.9.4 and InDesign CS6.

Are you opening a file from a file server? It sounds like you connection with the server was broken, or there is a problem with the server configuration.
When happens if you reboot, reopen InDesign, and open a file on your local hard drive?

  • The network connecion was lost for the file ___, or the file was modified by another process --

I'm helping a friend out at his archtectural firm and just moved all of their network files from a Windows 7 workstation over to a new i7 mac mini server running the latest Server OS.  Several folks on his team are running Windows 7 and have drives mapped to the new share.  Since putting the server in place - several of them (inconsistently) are getting the error message "The network connecion was lost for the file ___, or the file was modified by another process."
I have googled for an answer and have read several forum posts related to the issue on forums.adobe.com.
    Any news on this issue?
    Thanks.

    Sorry forgot to mention.
Were working here with a simple domain network ( 10 - 12 users in the domain )
We have one file server, thats were the InDesign documents are saved.
And we got one email sever.
This is mainly a windows network, we got 2 macs connected. (where my macbook is 1 of the 2)
I connect with my macbook to the file server via smb://servername
Never had a problem with that, worked 100% fine for the last year.
And this problem doesnt occur with other files that are stored on the file server (Think of Photoshop documents and Illustrator documents)

  • HT4550 I get a "network connection was lost" at the end of a download.  filesize seems to be complete.

Trying to download a couple of documents from an iTunesU course.  The file seems to download properly, then at the very end says that the "network connection was lost"  and the file in finder has a .download filename suffix, e.g. Lecture 1_1.pdf.download.  There are 2 files in the list that are doing this.  The rest came down properly.
Is this a problem with safari or the download page I am using?
Any ideas about what to do next?

    David...
Try posting in the iTunes U community as well >  https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes_u
Also, with iTunes open, click Help from the iTunes menu bar top of your screne.
Type   iTunes U   in the search field top right corner of that window.
Try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy (or just Security > Firewall

  • Safari shows "The network connection was lost" for all flv files on the internet.  Firefox plays all

I upgraded to the lastest version of Flash to fix what I thought was a problem in Firefox.  That problem turned out to be something else but now Safari will not play ANY flash content.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.  I have even installed an older version.  All of these have the exact same result.  Flash works in Firefox but not in Safari.  I have cleared the cache.  I have gone into the flash securty settings and deleted all content.  Nothing seems to change this.  Anyone have any ideas?

Plug-Ins are installedand keep in mindthis problem affects all 3 browsers i am using IE9, Safari5 & Firefox 19NOT a SPECIFIC browser issuewhich is why i think it's either "Flash" (Adobe) or streaming web-site (Freedocast) issue.

  • InDesign - The network connection was lost

I see a few threads in regards to this problem but I don't either understand or see a credible fix for it. I work for a company that has a creative services department. In total there are about 20 employees, all with the same image on their Mac. The Mac models themselves can vary but I have one user who has had two different Macs now and she continues to be the only one in the department who has this problem. Randomly she will get the following errors from InDesign CS6 vr. 8.0.1 on OS X 10.9. She works on files from a server. Illustrator doesn't have this issue working from the same sever but InDesign does. This can happen while she is actively using the Mac so there isn't anything turning off or going to hibernate mode.
The network connection was lost for the file XXXXXXX.indd, or the file was modified by another process.
    Followed by
Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents.
To troubleshoot I have done the following:
    1) Deleted the InDesign prefs.
    2) Updated the CS 6 suite
    3) Changed out network cable
    4) With new cable, swapped her network port with another users network port. Problem still stayed with the user.
    5) Had the network team monitor her port with a sniffer. They found nothing wrong with it.
    6) Updated OS X 10.9
    7) Removed CS 6 and re-installed.
Not sure what else to do.

Mac server or Windows server? Have you checked her permissions/access vs another user not having the issue?

  • Unable to check for available downloads. the network connection was lost

in my downloads window in iTunes it shows i have "28 iTunes downloads available". when i try to download them, i get the error "Unable to check for available downloads. the network connection was lost."
my connection is fine though, as i can individually download purchases by clicking on the cloud icon.

I followed the advice on Holgr's link, i used screen flow to capture the error message, and then made the video available to apple support. My issue was immediately escalated, and my account started working again shortly after.
I received no additional messages from tech support, i had no idea the problem was resolved until i tried it again.

  • Failed to load resource the network connection was lost

I am uploading a 2 gb file into my application using chrome in my MacBook Pro, i keep getting an error (FAILED to load resource: net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET) when the file is 100% uploaded and the file starts uploading from the beginning (1%... and so on). This issue is not happening when i am doing the file upload using chrome in my windows 7 machine. I Also noticed in the same MacBook if i upload through Safari i get the same error (failed to load resource the network connection was lost). Please let me know what additional information i can provide technically.

common guys..nobody have any solution for this...i have seen many people complaining about large file upload issues in MacBooks which wont happen in windows.

  • Can't purchase: the dreaded "network connection was lost" error.

I'm suddenly having iTunes problems, but they haven't been prompted by anything. I have 2 iTunes accounts: one works just fine for purchasing, the other generates this error message when I click "BUY" or when I click "Purchase" from within my Wish List:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was lost. There was an error in the ITunes Store. Please try again later.
I just updated to the latest OS, and re-downloaded the latest iTunes hoping that would help, but no luck. One account still works just fine, the other won't download at all.
I found similar issues in the forums, so I also repaired disk permissions, and also did a Keychain First Aid. Those didn't help either. I looked at my network settings, and nothing has changed in there either.
I also read that it could be a MobileMe issue: my Mobile Me account name is the iTunes account that's not working, but my non-mobile-me account name works just fine.
I'm completely & totally stumped. Googling for the possible answer only yields threads from 2-3 years ago. Has anyone had this problem recently, and perhaps found a fix for it? I'm stuck!
    Kirby

I'm still stuck on this one. I've tried repairing permissions, doing Keychain first aid... nothing helps. I've also installed the most recent version of iTunes, hoping that would fix the problem, but no dice. I even uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, but that didn't work either.
I'm not running any kind of virus protection software on my mac, and I don't have any custom firewall settings: they're defaulted to whatever they were at original startup.
It's not my cable modem, because my laptop can download without a problem from either account, but my desktop keeps hitting the wall of this error. I've scoured the web high and low, and unfortunately can't find any fixes. But I've encountered plenty of people who've had the same problem. I feel like there must be an errant file somewhere, or corrupt preference file, or a box ticked that shouldn't be ticked: something is making this error message pop up over and over again. I've also read that it has something to do with MobileMe users (which I am) but I don't understand how that would impact my ability to purchase a song.
I'm truly stumped, and I'm usually good at this stuff. Help!

  • "Hotspot login could not open the page because the network connection was lost"

So, I've been trying to connect to the login for our school's wifi for a while now, but instead of like going into the sign in spot where you accept the terms of use agreement for our wifi, the pop up screen says "Hotspot loging could not open the page because the network connection was lost". This is on my iPod touch 2nd Generation, and I've never had this problem before, but it popped up like 4-5 weeks ago, and I haven't been able to log in since. Anybody else solve this problem/ have it and could give me advice on how to solve it? That would be great, thanks and see you fellow Applers later!!

    1. Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar at bottom
    2. Hold the Safari app down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close app
    4. Re-launch the app and test
Note: If necessary close all apps in the Task Bar
