Network Connectivity Assistant in Windows 8.1

What happened to the Network Connectivity Assistant in Win8.1? In Win8 it would launch a "DirectAccess" dialog like the one in this blog:
http://blog.msgeneral.nl/2012/03/direct-access-connectivity-assistant-in.html
But in Win8.1 double-clicking and righ-clicking doesn't do anything:

As Richard points out you can only access the NCA via the following.
To access the DirectAccess connection properties in Windows 8.1, press
Window Key + I, click Change PC Settings, and then click
Network.
Highlight Connections and click Workplace Connection.
It is a step back for those that are used to the DCA or Win8 NCA.
Note: also you need to have a email client enabled on the client to get the logs.
Also there is the "Microsoft DirectAccess Client Troubleshooting Tool "

  • Network Connectivity Assistant failed to start on windows 8.1

Our Windows 2012 server running direct access is working fine with the windows 7 computers that we use.
I am now coming to role out windows 8.1, when I assign the computers to the relevant groups to get the group policies it doesn't want to connect.
    When I run get-daconnectionstatus nothing
then when I try and start the network connectivity assistant it fails as well telling me it cannot start?

    Hi,
It seems to be a Windows 8.1 side issue, please re-post the question in our Windows 8.1 forum for assistance.

Are you using DHCP to allocate IP addresses via your router or Static IP allocation?
You may have an IP conflict in your network.
Check on your various network configuration parameters in your iPad, PC and WiFi router.

    Hi,
Firstly, I would like to confirm with you if it worked before on Windows 7 Enterprise N version.
As I known, following are some additional features that Windows 7 Enterprise N edition has and other versions does not have:
    a. Direct Access
    b. Branch cache
    c. Federated search
You need to meet the following requirements to install the DA connectivity assistant.
Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Ultimate
    1. 10 MB of disk space.
    2. 10 MB of RAM.
    3. Microsoft Word or Microsoft Word Viewer (available as a free download) can be used to view Word documents.
I would like to suggest you download and install it from official website.

  • Canon IP1700 network connection to a windows pc how to?

I have a windows pc with an IP1700 connected to it, I want to allow my macbook to network print to the printer,
The macbook can see the ip1700 just fine, however, I does not have a driver for it.
I downloaded the diver for osx from canon, its not a driver but an install app. It works fine if i have the ip1700 connected direct to the mac, but when network connecting when its connected to the pc it demands a driver and I can not locate the driver file on my mac, I have tried to look in the package contents, no go. I looked in the printers folder of my home folder, no go. It will not work with a generic postscript driver. Im screewed.
    Help!!!
    Thanks

Ok, i got this to work by going to
    www.printfab.net
I install the printfab application which has support for the ip1700
You can check and see if they have support for your printer.
Once its installed, you can use the windows printing tab to select your shared windows printer,
then go into the driver list and if your printer is supported it should be in there.
Please note you dont actually runt he printfab app, you just use the drivers that it installed for you for the printers it supports.
    Hope this helps.

If you haven't yet installed the Windows Support Software, that's probably why, so install it now.

  • Restoring Network Connections Error

We are using the Lenovo IOMEGA IX2 NAS. We have around 10 users who connect to this network drive. One PC is able to connect to it but the others get a Restoring Network Connections Error:
Microsoft Windows Network: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
This connection has not been restored.
    Anybody else have this issue?

    Hello jamescheung
The affected PC's do were they actually able to mount the share(s) at any point or are you getting this error while trying to mount the share(s)?
If they are able to mount, are you getting the error in explorer or a backup utility such as robocopy?
Do the affected computers experience the issue right after a PC reboot?
How many of the protocols are enabled on the ix2 and do you have media server and/or any of the active folder options enabled?
Have you tried to disable any non-critical protocols/features for troubleshooting?

I was unable to download episodes from a season I purchased. It kept giving me the same "connection has been reset" error message. But I went and clicked on support under quick links in iTunes and it allowed me to start downloading from that screen. I didn't have to go into anything, it just automatically popped up that I had items to download and asked if I wanted to download them. I clicked on it, it prompted me for my password, and then started downloading them instantly.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection...

I was messing around with services and startup items a few days ago to try to get other software to work...I think I might have screwed up iTunes. I can't connect to the store anymore. I get the following error.
*iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection timed out.*
*Make sure your settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again.*
Obviously, my network is working since I'm able to do this, play Warcraft and all sorts of other things. iTunes is the only thing having a problem. I made sure that Bonjure was enabled, but I don't know what other services/startup items iTunes needs. Here's my diagnostic

  • Apple Airport 802-11n connection problems with Windows 7

I'm basically a MAC user, but my son is trying to get his Windows 7 Toshiba laptop to connect to my Apple 802-11n wifi. It will see the wifi, but when clicked on my network the connection fails before I get to input the password. Yet neighborhood 802-11n connections get to the password screen. The lap[top is a Toshibe satellite L755-S5107 running Windows 7.
I'm not very savvy on PCs, so I don't know where to look for versions of his software et al.
    Anyone familiar with such problems?

Toshiba may be doing something different than other manufacturers, so your best bet might be a Toshiba support site.

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 Wireless Network Connection: No Valid IP Configuration

I just bought a new 13" MBP and have installed Windows 7 Ultimate via Bootcamp 5.0. I installed the Windows Support Software that I had previously downloaded via Bootcamp Assistant on Mac OS. Although the Wireless Network Connection asked for my network key and connects to the network, I cannot access the internet. The troubleshooter find this problem: "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have valid IP configuration. I am using my old Dell computer and it is connecting to the wireless properly and my MBP can connect on Mac OS, so I don't think it's a router issue. Here are the things I have tried so far to resolve this issue, but none have worked:
Uninstalling the Broadcom Network Adapter driver, restarting the computer, and reinstalling
Repairing the Windows Support Software with the Bootcamp 5.0.5033 Support Software Update downloaded from www.apple.com
Uninstalling the Broadcom Network Adapter driver, restarting the computer, and reinstalling the driver from Bootcamp 5.0.5033

    Please help!

Did you find a solution for this? I have exaclty the same problem.
But I could temporarily solve it by setting an IP, gateway, dns etc manually. But that will only work in my current wifi-network.
I can't even get internet sharing from my iphone

I wouldn't recommend installing through a network connection.
    For a Virtual Machine:
If you have the Win 7 media (DVD), use an app like PowerISO or MagicISO to make an ISO file of the install disc and use that.
    For BootCamp:
Use the original install media and BootCamp Assistant, to install from your DVD Drive.
