Network connects then immediately disconnects

hello everyone,
when using my ibook i try to network with my mac pro. it lets me connect. then when i try to open the mounted drive, it disconnects, then will not let me re-mount the drive i get the connection failed error message.
both computers are tiger 10.4.11, no problem connecting to internet, get max signal strength, ibook uses airport extreme card, wireless modem is belkin g, i have run disk utility on both systems, mac pro is not "asleep", rebooted both computers... i think that covers it.
oh, on a side note. i am about the upgrade both to leopard. will that make a difference?
i thank you in advance for your help.

Hello Lisa,
Leopard may indeed fix this, but not for certain if course.
In finder, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes".
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1, and reboot.
Find the IP of the MacPro in it's Network Pref Pane>TCP/IP tab. In finder on the iBook, select Go menu>Connect to Servers..., then on the iBook, type in afp://ip.of.the.MacPro, like...
afp://10.0.1.5
afp://192.168.1.3

  • Screen sharing connecting then immediately disconnecting

I've recently bought an Intel Mac Mini for my Mother to use, and installed it at her place with Leopard. I'm running Leopard on my Macbook pro, and was hoping to use iChat screen sharing to solve problems for her. Now my problem here is that when I try to initiate screen sharing, the connection goes through, and sometimes (but not always) we see the large writing across the screen, but then it immediately disconnects citing the inititiator as disconnecting the screen sharing session. This happens whether I initiate screen sharing or my mother does.
I am on a 10+ meg broadband connection with 700kb upload, and she's currently on a 2 meg connection with 256 + kb connection. Is this part of the problem? I've opened port 5900 on her router to pass through to her computer. Also internally on my network ichat sharing works as it should.

After an hour if pulling out my hair, I finally had an idea of what might be causing the crash... I noticed I had my old iSight plugged in (the external firewire iSight) into my Apple Cinema Display. I unplugged it and iChat screen sharing worked PERFECTLY. You should also know that I don't have problems with my iSight, it works well on Video Chat and Audio Chat and even presentation mode but, it screwed up screen sharing.
In conclusion, if you're experiencing sudden connection losses with iChat screen sharing, check to see if you have an iSight plugged into your Mac and unplug it.

  • Ipod nano connects then immediately disconnects after plugging in to USB

i have never had this happen before. as soon as i plug it into the usb port it comes on. then about 5 seconds later it shuts off the connection. i go to "my computer" and it goes away.

First, try a differnet USB cable, and a different USB cable if possible.
    If that doesn't help:
Connect the iPod and open Device Manager
(Click Start, right click My Computer, click Manage, click Device Manager in the left-hand column)
Scroll to Universal Serial Bus controllers and click the plus symbol to expand it
    Do you see the iPod?
If you see something with a red "x" on it, right click on it and click Enable
If you see something with a yellow ! or ? try right clicking on it, click Uninstall, and then restart the PC with the iPod connected.

    Hi,
So switch a LAN card fix this issue...seems a compatibility issue or maybe some packs or programs you installed recently cause this issue.
Have you manually check the network adapter driver from the PC's manufacture website? sometimes, it will be a time delay before Microsoft push out the driver update.
Check if issue exists in safemode with network, this mode will launch Windows with limited sets of files and drivers.
if you have a restore point, restore the pc to a previous point at which the pc is functioning fine.

I would try another restore of the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. Maybe something went wrong in the process. Make sure everything works before applying any updates and adding any hardware or software.
Then add things carefully, rebooting Windows and testing the USB and audio at each step.
    Please note this.
The only info windows gives me for the sound card is that it from Microsoft... with a driver version of 6.1.7601.17514....which naturally doesn't really help me since I have no idea what card or mobo I have . Is there any way for me to find out what I need other than opening up my laptop?
Every one of them lists my mobo simply as a Toshiba motherboard, with no audio card information. Which I'm assuming that is because it has an internal sound processor. My problem is that none of the properties, or ANYTHING I try, will give me information on what I need to fix this...
All of the latest drivers for your model are easily found here. This one is for the sound.

  • SIRI finds the correct number, makes the call and then immediately disconnects.

If I use Siri to make a call the system usually finds the correct number then makes the call and then immediately disconnects. This is really frustrating.
I have a 2010 Toyota Landcruiser Sahara with a Pioneer system with built-in bluetooth.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
BTW the phone works well with a hyundai i30.
I never had this problem with my Blackberry

That's interesting. Try saying "Call Mobile" instead of just "Mobile". If you're still having trouble, try hard booting your phone holding down Power + Home until the device reboots.

  • Problem with Virtual PC and Network Connection - VPC gets disconnected

    Hi,
I've been having a few problems with a virtual computer and its network connection.  I've set up a few computers the same way over the years and they all work fine except this one.  We use the Virtual PC and XP mode to access our data from an older
program.  The databases are on a server, which are accessed as a mapped drive.  Every once in a while (with no particular pattern, sometimes it doesn't happen all day, sometimes it happens every 5 mins), the VPC gets disconnected from the network,
my program returns a file read error and then everything is frozen.  When I try to ipconfig/release and renew, it releases correctly then it won't renew.  I need to shut down the VPC from the Win7 task manager and even so, it doesn't shut it down,
even when I try to kill the vpc process.  The only way it'll come back up is if I restart the computer.  The network connection on the Win7 computer doesn't do that.
Is there anything I can do to fix this ?
    Thanks,
    Melanie

    Hi,
Does it become more stable now, actually, I'm afraid that this issue is not related with the drive letter or name. Since you're using bridge mode, the I would suggest you use NAT as a test, it is the default network configuration, which allows the VM
to leverage the external TCP/IP network connected to the host. This is very useful if you regularly move the host computer between different network configurations. NAT is the preferred networking option when there is a shortage of IP addresses, a need to
ensure the VM’s IP address is not targetable from an external network, or a need for connecting using WWAN.

  • HT1750 network connection is randomly disconnected after sleep.

I have a iMac OS X (10.5.8) I purchased in 2009 brand new.  For the last 6 months, I have to go thru network diagnostics to verify my network name and re-enter my password for the network.  I have an Ipad, Ipod, and laptop PC that have no issues connecting to the network after I have contacted my network to troubleshoot problem, it is not the network.  My system software is currently up to date, I did notice that 10.7 Lion had a software update for this problem that I am experiencing.  Can anyone give me a solution to troubleshoot this problem?

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

  • Blend connects then disconnects immediately

No problem with Z10, pc and ipad using leaked OS, yesterday I installed OS 10.3.1.1565, SW 10.3.1.2243 OTA from carrier.
Now Blend verifies, connects and immediately disconnects via pc and ipad. Sometimes I get a message to switch Blend on and even to reboot the Z10.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sadly I´m facing the same problem here. Using it on an iPad Air 2 with iOS 8.1.3 and a Blackberry Classic and Q10, both on the latest OS Versions available to me (both on 10.3.1565). The Blend App on the iPad is updated as well. It does show me both of the phones when I log in to the BB ID in Blend on iPad, it does connect to both phones, but then it immediately shows "not connected". Tried to redownload the App, checked if connections where allowed ohn the phones, the Wifi is working fine (checked 3 different Wifis to make sure), IPv6 on the router activated and deactivated, but no change at all. Sad thing is that when you read the comments on the Apple App Store regarding the Blend App, it does seem that its quite a common problem, for a bit of a while now, but seems that they can't fix it. Also wanted to report the problem from the App via report button on the top left corner of the App, but somebody slept while programming it as it seems since there is the Mail App starting with a prepared Email, but the address where the mail should be send to is missing. Its a sad story, Blend is a great idea, but executed absolutely **bleep**ty! Ah, and obviously on my Mac, I´m facing the same problem as many others here, the Programm doesn´t start at all and doesn´t send an error message, so I have no chance to find the problem... Would be good if we could get some info from Blackberry, but this is the only plattform for official support for the app as far as I can see...

  • New Ipod - Connecting, then Automatically, uncontrollably disconnecting.

Hello I just got a new 160gb black classic Ipod (just today infact) and I plug it in. It connects...and then immediately disconnects. I just connect, and it disconnects. Both my parents have 2gb Ipod Nanos so I have the newest Itunes, but I have no idea what to do. The computer registers it for a few seconds as a G Drive with 0 byte space and then disconnects. I reset it 5 times in a row and all I got was "Ipod device cannot be recognized" or whatever problem that is. Advice please? I leave for a Month-long trip to Europe in a few days and I got this Ipod specifically for this reason.
    Thanks

Hmm, I have my 80 gig classic for more than a half year, and I hadn't encountered this problem so far, but today I encountered it, thus afterward stumbling upon this tread. I copied a file in my iPod which I had to have on another PC, but the iPod wouldn't properly connect with the other PC. When i connected it, the new device connected chime sounded and half a second later - the device disconnected sound. The iPod showed connecting, then ejecting, and the battery indicator was acting a bit weirdly. I tried a few more times with the same results. I was a bit concerned with this, even more so after reading your problem, but when I got home, my computer and the iPod connected as usually, no problems at all. The funny thing, though, is that I had connected the iPod to the other computer several times before without any problems. Oh and my computer has Win Wista, and the other had Win XP. I hope that maybe someone other more experienced can get some hints from this.

  • Ipod connects- immediately disconnects. No time to sync!

    Apple, If you're looking HELP!
I've seen numerous people with the same problem and NO RESOLUTION!
All of a sudden for no reason when the ipod is conntected, it connects for 2 seconds then immediately disconnects for no reason. It doesn't even have time to sync with I tunes. Any suggestions? I don't really want to reinstall iTunes. I have over 60GB of music and it is a long pain in the butt to reload.
Dell inpsiron 531, AMD 6000x2, Vista Premium.

The same thing happened to me.
First of all, close itunes. Then press ctrlaltdelete so the task manager comes up
then go to the processes tab and find a process called "iTunesHelper.exe" in the list
Then Click it and click "End Process" on the bottom.
After that, connect your ipod and itunes shouldnt show up.
The ipod is supposed to stay connected.
Click start and right click "computer" and click "manage". A window is supposed to show up.
In the right pane, click Disk Management. It will take a while to load up.
On the list of drives at the top, you are supposed to see your ipod listed in there somewhere.
Right click it and click "Change Drive Letter and Paths" and a small window will pop up.
there is only supposed to be one thing on the list. Click it and click "Change".
Select the first option ("Assign The Following Drive Letter") and on the drop down menu right next to it, change the letter to some other letter.
Then click "OK" and click "OK" again, and then eject your ipod through the safely remove ipod thing or through my computer (dont open itunes).
Then restart your computer and connect your ipod again.
    It should be working.
Well, it was working for me when I did that

  • Mydaq usb connection - lost immediately

    Hello,
I just recieved a mydaq, and am having troubles getting it connected. The process I followed, was install the supplied software (labview, NI-Elvis, NI-mydaq drivers), and then plugged in the usb mydaq. It is found quickly, finds driver successfully, and then immediately disconnects. The blue light on the unit stays lit as long as the USB is plugged in.
After unplugging, and replugging in the unit, I hear an audible sound from windows 7 confirming a new device has been connected (same sound as when plugging in a USB drive), and within 3 seconds, another sound is heard, (same sound as when unplugging usb drive).
When I load the ELVIS application, and try to take a DMM measurement, under the Device dropdown box, it says No supported devices. But, when I plug in the myDAQ, "No Supported Devices" changes to "myDAQ1....." for a brief second. So, it looks like its being found, but loses connection immediately.
I may have a defective unit, but unsure. Does anyone have any recommendations on making the DAQ maintain a usb connection

    HI,
Just  to  let  you know  of  my experience. I  had  the  same problem as you . It  kept loosing connection  and  making  a sound every time it lost  connection, very frustrating.
The  fault  was my own making . I used a USB cable  that was not  the  original and was longer  than  original.
    Works fine  now
