Network device setup

I put in an airport extreme and it works good.  The only problem I am having now is that I cannot get into my network devices to set them up.  I am using a PC and IE or Chrome (dont judge I am work on switching over).  I can ping the devices and see them on the network, but when I type in the ip address IE/Chrome tells me I have a conntion issues or the page is not avalible.  When I did this before I installed the extreme I had no Problems.
Any ideas?

Good! Because I was starting to think you were doing some serious dope :p :p
Anywho, it's quite easy to do.
1. On the NFS server, create a shared directory
2. On the NFS client, mount the share
3. On the NFS client, use the "mkfile" command to create a file of, say 100 MB
4. On the NFS client, use the "swap" command to add this file to the already existing swap space.
That should do it :)

  • HP Network Devices Support service will not start

Product: HP Photosmart Premium All-in-one (C309g)
    OS: Vista Business 32 bit
    Errors:
When running the "Add Device" portion of set up to add the printer to my PC so it can be accessed wirelessly this pops up in the back ground: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
The result of the above process is the following message in the HP installer screen: "The HP software that enables networking is not responding. Cancel the installation and restart the PC."
As you may guess, I've had this printer for a while couple/few years at least, and I've been running it wireleslly for quite some time.
The printer is active on my wireless network, printing Wireless Network Test Report from the printer proves this. I can also access the printer's webpage by entering its IP in a web browser.
We first perceived the issue when HP Solution Center reported that the Printer was no longer connected. And it suggested doing something with the install, which sent me down the road of unintalls and installs.
I've run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which tells me the printer is installed for use via USB, but the networked instance is not installed.
I still have the orginal instal CD for this printer. Running setup off the root of the CD, i get the "Later Version already installed" or something to that extent.  I've also downloaded the most recent Basic and Full Feature Instals from HP site.
I've used Revo Uninstaller to do my uninstalls and I've run CCleaner after all the apps are gone from the program list.
I've read somewhere that this is related to the "HP Network Devices Support" service.
In computer management I can see that its not running, and it is set to start "Automatically (Delayed Start)"
When I try to start this service I get this: "Windows could not start the HP Network Devices Support service on local computer Error 2: They system could not find the file specified"
Somethings that have been done on this machine recently, i'm not sure when the Printer problem started...
    Installed Quicken 2013
    Installed iTunes
Changed my home network from Public to private on this machine so I could set up some media servers.
I've check through all the quarantined files of my antivirus and there didn't seem to be any HP files in there.
I'm  hoping my issue is in fact this service, and somehow replacing the missing file its refferencing will fix it all.
My next step is to uninstall everything again, and make sure that service drops out of the list too, then reinstall from HP download.
    This question was solved.

I would suggest using the software scrubber built into the install to clean everything out. The steps below will walk you through it.  Before doing step 10 from a CD or step 15 from a download, check the both program files folder to make sure that the HP folders get deleted.
    From original printer installation CD:
    1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
    2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. Run the uninstall_ L4.bat for non-HP computers.  For HP computers run the Uninstall_L3.bat
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
    8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

  • Discovering Network Devices with SNMP not working

I have implemented SCOM 2012 SP1 CU5 on Server 2008 R2 with SQL 2008 R2 all installed on the same VM running side by side with SCOM 2007 R2 v 6.1.7221.0. I have almost fully decommissioned SCOM 2007 and all that remains on it is 2 network devices that
    I cannot discover with SCOM 2012 using SNMP, no matter what I try. If I just use ICMP the discovery works. I have checked both the devices and SNMP is enabled and if I run this snmpwalk command on both devices I get a response;

The first device is a Marms UPS which has had its firmware upgraded, which was discovered using SNMP in SCOM 2007 and the second device is a Juniper SSG-140 Firewall, again this is discovered using SNMP in SCOM 2007.
I believe that I have setup SNMP correctly on SCOM 2012 because I have 28 other networks devices discovered using SNMP using an explicit discovery, some of these being newer Marms UPS's, emerson air conditioners, netapp SAN etc.
I have added any and all accepted community names in the SNMP service properties on SCOM 2012 and enabled accept SNMP packets from any host.
Does anyone have any information that they could forward to me or point in the right direction to troubleshoot this issue for eg run some snmp get commands and capture / filter traffic with wireshark, what do I look for? Any other logs to check besides the
obvious ones? Any known issues with SCOM 2012 SP1 and SNMP, should I upgrade to R2? It just seems that some network devices get discovered with ease and others do not and I am running out of ideas. Thank you all in advance.

Patrick, thank you for your reply.
Yes the snmpwalk command is run from the new SCOM 2012 server which has the discovery rule on it.
I don't have any pending network devices, its blank.
Could there be an issue with my discovery rule? I have noticed that each time I make a change to, for eg, the access mode and change this from ICMP to ICMP/SNMP, save it, run it, it doesn't seem to update the said network devices access mode's in network
devices, it just stays on ICMP. Do I have to manually remove the network devices which have been discovered before making any changes to the discovery rule and running it which I have done? They don't seem to appear in network devices pending management either?

  • More than 4 network Devices - how do i connect?

    Hi,
I have a new Home Hub 4 and i am currently using all the outlets from my network devices. I now need another connection in my lounge for my blue ray player, but i obviously do not have anymore network connections available?
I have an old home hub 3, could i swap the connection to the spare LAN2 at my modem and put the hub 3 on the other end and then have 4 connections available instead of the original 1?
I am a novice as this and would appreciate any help to solve my current problem - diagrams would be very useful.
    Regards
    Rob
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    >Disable the wifi card on your computer/laptop as you dont want to change settings on master hub by accident.
    >Power on old hub but do not connect to phone line just plug it into the wall and connect an ethernet cable from this to your computer.
    >Navigate to 192.168.1.254 on your browser this will bring up your hub configuration page.
    > Goto Advanced - Firewall - Configuration - Disable.
    > HUB 4 AND 5 ONLY: Goto Advanced - Home network - Smart Setup - Disable.
    > Goto Advanced - Home Network - IP addresses - In the IP address box type 192.168.1.10 and then click on DHCP server disable - apply. (Do both steps then hit apply or you will loose connection and it will be difficult to get back)
    > Now plug the old Hub into the main hub via ethernet or powerline network plugs and voila you have an access point.
At this point you will have 2 seperate wireless networks broadcasting 2 names (ssid) and using 2 different wireless keys, which itself is not a problem just point your devices at the one you want to connect to and it will work, however now would be a good time to set yourself a nice custom SSID and wireless key that you can remember easily and to do this follow instructions below.
To set master Hub goto 192.168.1.254 in your browser
To set slave Hub goto 192.168.1.10 in your browser.
Instructions are the same for both.
Goto advanced - wireless - and now set SSID - Wireless key to a custom choice, if you are using the same SSID and Key for both hubs make sure you set the same security type or devices may not be able to connect to one or the other.
Below applies to secondary hubs only and your main hub will have the same status lights as normal.
On Hubs V2 and V3 you will be left with just the wireless and power lights illuminated the broadband light will be off.
Hub V4 your status light will be orange and your broadband light will flash constantly this is normal.
Hub V5 your status light will be orange and broadband light will flash constantly, however occaisionally the status light will flash as if its trying to connect, again this is normal and does not effect operation.

  • ACS disconnects network devices randomly

I've got a strange situation where our ACS seems to be disconnecting network devices periodically.  Some of the logs make me thinking there's an issue w/ our AD setup, others point to runtime issues w/ in the ACS.  Typically its just a quick drop and the other ACS picks up the load, but it seems to be happening more often.
Anyone have any idea where I should start on this one?

We are using both EAP-TLS (Primarily for the wireless controllers)  <-- This is where we saw the ACS timing out more often.. I increased the wireless controller timeout from 2 sec to 5 sec yesterday.. see if that helps..  Not sure if users are actually getting dropped off or not.. What i'm seeing is the controller deactivating and reactivating the ACS radius servers because it wasn't getting a response.
We've often been seeing radius calls taking up to 3-4 seconds.. which we're being told is expected after opening a case.
We are using PEAP for our wired (Primarily switch based radius calls) <-- these rarely get knocked off, but it happens enough to warrant a look, where the switch will identify a radius (acs) as dead in the middle of the day.  The dot1x params on these switches are set to 5 seconds, so I'm assuming this is happening when the ACS is getting busy.. But this really shouldn't be happening with the load we are running,, Thats why i'm trying to investigate if there is another issue somewhere.

  • Use Time Machine Backup with Akitio Network Devices

    Hello,
Does anyone knows if I can use any of these two devices so to setup a wireless network backup ?
Anyone used them for this purpose ?
Akitio Cloud Hybrid or Akitio My Cloud Mini.
    Thanks in advance!

A third-party NAS is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup.
Apple has published a specification for network devices that work with Time Machine. None of the third-party NAS vendors, as far as I know, meets that specification. They all use the incomplete, obsolete Netatalk implementation of Apple Filing Protocol.
If you want network backup, use as the destination either an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or to an 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only the 802.11ac base stations support Time Machine, not any older model.
Otherwise, don't use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to back up, though none of them is anywhere near as efficient or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

  • Z61m internal network device

    Hi again,
I have an additional big issue:
If I set the internal network device to enable in BIOS windows XP won't boot.
I can only enable the internal wireless devices in BIOS and you the wlan to connect to internet.
Can anyone help me to use the ethernet connection?
what can I do to enable the internal network devices?
    Thanks

    Salutations, Luke.
That setup will be fine.  Just make sure that you are not assigning any devices IPs in the 192.168.1.100-150 range as that is designated for the STBs in your home.  That would result in conflicting IPs, thus no IP-centric services (i.e. guide and VOD) would work.
Alternatively, you can have the existing router piggyback off of the Actiontec router.  You can keep the Actiontec at default and set the existing router to a different IP range (perhaps 192.168.0.XXX or 192.168.2.xxx).  This way you can totally seperate the two networks- Actiontec for FiOS services, existing router for home data network.
Let me know if you run into any problems with the specific setup.

  • Device Setup Incomplete

When I connect my phone to BB Link to restore it gives me this message "Device Setup Incomplete: Disconnect your device from your computer and complete the Setup app on you device. When complete reconnect your device." I don't know what I'm missing here. I have everything setup properly in the setup app including my BBID.I tried every link in setup, still the same, Can anybody help please?

Good God I also started having this problem! But in addition, two weeks ago I simply set my Q10 on a table (not hard at all), and it just reset for no reason. But after it restarted, I noticed that all of my custom settings were reset to factory defaults! Oddly, my email, text messages and network settings were still there (and they work), but my custom wallpaper, icon positions, etc were wiped out. The setup wizard also popped up after the restart, prompting me to go through the setup wizard all over again like I had a brand new phone. Since then, EVERY SINGLE HOUR a message box randomly appears with the following message: "Complete Setup: To finish setting up your device, restart your device and connect to a network"  With a big "Restart Device" button below the message. Then it completely locks me out of whatever I'm doing. I can't close the message box or anything, so I'm forced to tap the "Restart Device" button and wait 3-5 minutes for the phone to finish restarting. And then after it finishes restarting, the setup wizard pops up all over again. And it happens every time it restarts now. I tried to restore a backup via BlackBerry Link software, but but I get the error that says: "Device Setup Incomplete" ...... I can't do anything now! #fuming

  • Network Device Permissions

Is it possible to change the permissions on network interfaces at boot like you can devices on FreeBSD? I am trying to run Wireshark and Etherape via MacPorts in X11 but I have to start it via sudo. When I do that, I have to reconfigure the network interface. It appears to be dropping the config for my non privileged user and wanting root to setup the interface.
Is it possible to configure something on OS X like devfs.conf in FreeBSD?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Jeff
P.S. I apologize for cross-posting. I posted this in the "Using Mac OS X Tiger" discussion yesterday and haven't received any answers.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM

The main issue I have is that I can only assign network group and one network device group to a rule. let me give you an example. I have one network device group, accessing that group I have 4 teams all with the same permissions, I cannot create one rule for this as I can only assign one user group to the policy rule. I could I guess create a new network group BUT there other network device groups that potentially three of these User groups dont have access to.
I have thought about building hierarchies of user groups and or network device groups but do not beleive this would work based on the many NDG access all the groups have access to.

  • Network Device Gotcha

I made a discovery this morning and I thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into this.
We made a network device in FCSvr called MacStore3. This was an archive device that pointed to an AFP share called MacStore3 that was on afp://macstorage.local/MacStore3. However, someone who helped us with FCSvr setup told us that when you create network devices in FCSvr, you shouldn't put the server info in the device pane. You should treat it as a locally mounted drive. So instead of putting "afp://macstorage.local/MacStore3/" in the server URL, we were instructed to put it in as a local path with the location of /Volumes/MacStore3.
It worked fine, but one day when the device became unavailable (maybe the server had to restart, or was down for a while) and I tried to archive an asset to the MacStore3 device, I happened to notice that the file didn't make it to the MacStore3 device. I scratched my head and wondered where the file could have gone. I was able to restore the asset with no problems... but where had it archived TO?
Answer - if you have a device that is a network share in actuality (afp://macstorage.local/MacStore3) and you mount that share on the FCSvr machine and assign a FCSvr location to it as a local drive (/Volumes/MacStore3), you better darn well be sure that the FCSvr machine NEVER loses the network connection. If it does, and someone tries to assign an asset to that device or archive to it, FCSvr creates a new directory in the Volumes folder of the machine and puts the new archive or asset there. Then guess what happens when your network share is mounted again... Weirdness. The OS actually assigns a new mount point for it (In my case it was "/Volumes/MacStore3-1") but since my MacStore3 device in FCSvr pointed to /Volumes/MacStore3, nothing actually made it to the network drive, it went into the DIRECTORY that was created in the Volumes folder when the actual network share was offline.
    BE CAREFUL with this.

I'm not sure why they told me that. However, I can see one reason one would deliberately want a network device to be referred to in FCSvr as a local device - when you're dealing with a Contentbase. Contentbases cannot be located on servers - FCSvr will only allow you to refer to a server as a local volume through /Volumes.
Before I made this discovery, I had made four devices as contentbases because they will contain a TON of movies and photographs (They will be libraries of client photos and videos for an asset management system). The media will live on an AFP-connected NAS. I wanted them to be contentbases so my users wouldn't have to worry about duplicate filenames. So I mounted the AFP share on the FCSvr machine's desktop and assigned the device location to /Volumes/Asset Management/Client. That works, but if the Asset Management share becomes unavailable, I have FCSvr putting an Asset Management folder in the Volumes folder, and everything gets screwed up.
I remade the devices as regular filesystems, and forgot about contentbase. I guess I have to just tell my users that they are going to have to be conscious of filenames.

  • Laserjet pro 200 color mfp m276nw network folder setup on PC Windows 7

I am trying and trying and trying to setup my Network Folder Setup and I either get the message that there is an error with the file path or an error with my username.
I DO NOT have a password for my username.
I have copied and pasted the file path \\OWNER-PC\Scanning
The file is definately set-up for sharing and all permissions are enabled.
I am not putting in a PIN at this time.
Can anyone help me to setup this network folder?
    This question was solved.

    Hi @Username57 ,
I understand that you are having issues setting up the network folder. I will certainly do my best to help you.
I have provided a document with the steps for setting up the scan to network folder.
Scan From the Control Panel (Including Scan to Email, to a PDF, and to a Network Folder) for HP Lase...
It is usually a issue with the Network Path for the network folder created.
Create a folder anywhere on the computer.
Right click the folder and left click properties, select the Sharing tab, click the Share button, select who you want to share the folder with or everyone. On the same Sharing tab copy the Network Path. (example \\envy1730\users \Envy\desktop\networkfolder
In the embedded web server for the printer go to the Scan tab, select network folder setup, paste in the path for the network folder. Go through the wizard.
If those steps don't work then follow steps 1, 2, 3, to resolve this issue to try and get the network folder and path.
Step one: Make sure that the computer user account is password protected.
1.Click the Windows icon, then click Control Panel.
2.Click User Accounts, then select the account you used to log into the computer.
3.Click Change your Windows password, then find the user account you used to log into the computer.
•If the user account is password protected, continue to the next step.
•If the user account is not password protected, click Create a password for your account to create a password, and then continue to the next step.
Step two: Define the network location
1.Click the Windows icon, then click Control Panel.
    2.Click Network and Sharing Center.
3.In the View your active networks section, click Public network under your network name. The Set Network Location window opens.
4.Select Home Network or Work Network, then click Close.
Step three: Make sure that the network sharing and discovery options are correct
1.Open the Network and Sharing Center window.
2.Click Choose homegroup and sharing options.
3.In the Share libraries and printers section, select Documents.
4.In the Other homegroup actions section, click Change advanced sharing settings.
5.In the Advanced sharing settings window, make sure that the following network options are turned on:
    •Network discovery
    •File sharing
•Public folder sharing (read and write access)
    •Password protected sharing
    6.Click Save changes.
7.Your computer network is now successfully set to complete the Scan and Fax to Network. Folder or Digital Fax to Network Folder Wizard.
One user on another post had to do the following:
There was a problem in the "advanced sharing settings window". They turned it off, the option which is after the 128 encryption, I mean the "password protected sharing".
Please let me know the outcome.
    Happy New Years!
    Thank You.

  • A connection to the deployment share could not be made - Networking device did not have a driver installed

I have a couple of HP 8200 desktops that I think might have bad nics. When I PXE boot them and start my LiteTouch, I get a Wizard error that says

I have that driver in MDT and it works on other HP 8200s. Looking into the Wpeinit.log, it looks like the driver loads but maybe the nic is bad:

    Hi,
According to your description, it should be Intel NIC driver problem. I have checked HP official website, there is new NIC driver released, please access to the link below to download the NIC driver for test:

    Product: 8600 N911g
I am having issues in creating a network folder to scan to my computer. It responds ‘No write permission’
**NOTE**Before I allow you to continue reading, I need to first know to I need to create a password in my user account, or turn off UAC to create a scan network folder on my PC? If so, then that is what I need to do to correct this issue.
Steps I have performed in attempting to accomplish this task:
In Windows to create shared folder:
    1) Created folder.
    2) Open folder properties, under 'sharing' tab, selected 'Share' button, then selected 'Share' button.
    3) A dialog window appears and states 'Sharing items', and when it is complete, it states "Your folder is shared. You may e-mail these links to notify people that you have shared these files, or copy the links onto the Windows clipboard, where you can paste them into any program you choose.”
    4) When I select ‘Done’, it returns to the folder properties, and states in ‘Network File and Folder Sharing’ under ‘Sharing’ tab under ‘Network Path’: ‘Not Shared’.
**I don’t understand that it just said ‘Your folder is shared’, then under Network Path is stated ‘Not Shared’.**
    5) Since in stated ‘Not Shared’, I selected ‘Advanced Sharing’, checked ‘Share this folder’ box, and under ‘Permissions’, checked ‘Full Control’ box.
    6) Now it states Shared, and under ‘Network Path’ states the location: ‘ \\ADMIN-PC\ScantoDV9825 ’
In the HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g, Embedded Web Server to add network folder to scan to:
    1) Opened ‘Scan’ section by clicking on the tab ‘Scan’. Under ‘Network Folder Setup’, the ‘Network Folder Configuration’ clicked on ‘New’.
    2) Entered data for the following fieldsTEP 1 OF 4: Display Name: ‘Scan’, Network Path: ‘\\ADMIN-PC\ScantoDV9825’. Left User Name and Password fields blank. STEP 2 OF 4: Left PIN fields blank. STEP 3 OF 4: Did not make any changes, used default settings.
    3) In STEP 4 OF 4 when I click on Save and Test, it returns with the message ‘No write permission’
How do I resolve this issue of ‘No write permission’?
    Thank you.

    Hi Robert,
First ensure the permissions are also set correctly by right clicking the shared folder, and then open the Security tab.
If your user name is not listed as Full Control click the edit button, add your user name and check the box for as Allow full control.
If that does not help, follow these steps in Windows Vista to make sure that your computer is configured to allow network sharing.
Step one: Make sure that the computer user account is password protected
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
Click User Accounts , and then select the account you used to log into the computer.
Click Change your Windows password , and then find the user account you used to log into the computer.
If the user account is password protected , continue to the next step.
If the user account is not password protected , click Create a password for your account to create a password, and then continue to the next step.
Step two: Define the network location
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
    Click Network and Internet .
Click Network and Sharing Center .
Click Customize next to Your Network . The Set Network Location window opens.
Select Private , click Next , and then click Close .
Step three: Make sure that the network sharing and discovery options are correct
Open the Network and Sharing Center window.
In the Sharing and Discovery section, make sure that the following network options are set to On :
    Network Discovery
    File Sharing
    Public Folder Sharing (password required)
    Printer Sharing (password required)
    Password Protected Sharing
Your computer network is now successfully set to complete the Scan and Fax to Network Folder or Digital Fax to Network Folder Wizard.

  • How to stop ACS intergated AD users to login in AAA clients(network device)

I have ACS 4.2 Appliance which is integrated with Active directory.
AD users are able to login in network devices. Is there any so that I can stop AD user and other local users to login in AAA clinets (network devices).

These types of configurations are a two-way street. ACS must be configured to actually perform the authentication/authorization, and the AAA clients must also be configured for authentication/authorization. I would look at the AAA client configurations, first.
What kind of AAA clients are we talking about? Cisco switches, Cisco WLC's? Swicthing gear from other companies?
For Cisco switches, lines like the following will tell them to use your ACS server for administrative user auth (RADIUS ro TACACS+, respectively):
    aaa group server radius rad_admin
    server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    aaa group server tacacs+ tac_admin
    server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
If your AAA client is a WLC, then you need to uncheck the "Management" box where the RADIUS server is defined for authentication (Security -> AAA -> RADIUS -> Auth).

  • ISE 1.2 network device editing

I have upgraded to ISE 1.2 and the latest patch and noticed a bug where editing network devices, you are unable to save changes as the "Save" button is greyed out. It also appears to have SNMP unchecked for all devices even though there is configuration for them.

    Hi
Make sure that you have defined Security Group Access (SGA)-enabled devices in Cisco ISE to process requests from SGA-enabled devices that can be part of the Cisco SGA solution. Any device that supports the Security Group Access solution is an SGA-enabled device.
SGA devices do not use the IP address. Instead, you must define other settings so that SGA devices can communicate with Cisco ISE.
If you are importing network devices from previous release then You cannot import network devices in Cisco ISE, Release 1.2 that are exported in previous Cisco ISE, Releases 1.1 and 1.1.x as the import template for these releases are different.
You can import a list of device definitions into a Cisco ISE node using a comma-separated value (CSV) file. You must first update the imported template before you can import network devices into Cisco ISE. You cannot run an import of the same resource type at the same time. For example, you cannot concurrently import network devices from two different import files.
