Network Drive issues - Login fails
Hello,
I've been struggling with this problem today after installing Leopard. There were no problems under Tiger.
I've got a network drive, and I can see it clearly in the Shared side-menu of a Finder window. The drive isn't set up to let Guests in, so I tried Authenticating myself with the user name and password we've used here at the office the last three years (so, I'm not typing in the wrong password..) and it says it's the wrong username or password.
I tried Command-K connecting, with a long, detailed address (cifs://WORKGROUP;USERNAME@DRIVENAME/SHARENAME) and it connects fine, fast and asks for authentication. But again, the absolutely for certain right password gets rejected.
Pinging the drive in a Terminal also confirms the drive is there, the computer has no problem seeing it.
I'm downloading 10.5.2 as we speak, so I'll see if that solves my problem. But if any of you have experienced this, or have any suggestions, I'd be delighted to hear from you.
Edit: Oh, the hard disk is connected to a Linksys Network Storage Link.
Cheers,
Jon

I might as well add that connecting to a Windows machine works fine, so it doesn't seem to be connected to the SMB/Leopard issues I've heard people talk about.

Deployment issue - Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'
I am attempting to deploy a site from my development PC to my server. I have no issues running the site on the server using VS2010 Express Web in debug. All page queries are working within the debugger. The connection strings are identical between the PC
and Server, except the host name.
connectionString
="Data
Source=SOCIALSERVER;Initial Catalog=Intake_be;Integrated Security=True"
However, when using the site normally via IIS, the pages containing data access are failing with a permissions problem. The non-data access pages render normally.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'
Looking at the SQL2005 instance via SQL Management Studio, I see security folder with Logins under the Server. NTA\NS is listed as a user login. But, I also see similar folders under each
of 3 databases. NTA\NS is not listed as a login specific to my target dB.
My site is for internal (intranet) use only. There is no internet access into my IIS. This is my first deployment into production. I think I only need Windows Authentication but I lack the experience to make a good decision. My goal is to allow domain users
to access pages that produce read only data. But, I also need controlled access to pages that can modify data. I used the native winform template for ASP.NET 4, which includes some roles based security.
How do I grant permissions for internal users on the pages that access SQL data? How does that security model work with the native roles based security? i.e.
add
name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider"type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider"connectionStringName="ApplicationServices"...
etc.
Thanks for your time and patience on this Deployment 101 type issue.
Kurthi,
You receive either of these error messages specifically when you use integrated security.
To resolve you can use one of below.
Method 1: Programmatically change the security context of the ASP.NET worker process to a user who has the correct SQL Server permissions.
Method 2: Change the default configuration of ASP.NET so that the ASP.NET worker process starts and runs under the context of a user who has the correct permissions in SQL Server.
Method 3: Grant the correct permissions in SQL Server so that the ASPNET account (or NetworkService account, for an application that runs on IIS 6.0) has the appropriate access to the required resources.(Go to the Computer Management >> Local User and
Groups >> Groups >> Right Click and go to properties on IIS_IUSRS >> Add appropriate user.
Thanx, Mark as answered if you are ok .. -
X240 Network Driver issue with Windows PE
HelloI am working with OSD deployment in a big organisation. We are using SCCM 2012 SP1 to deploy new computers with our own image and applications. The new Thinkpad X240 is causing a big problem at the moment since we do not seem to be able to find an appropriate Ethernet network driver for the built-in Intel ethernet interface that is working in winPE 4.0. This is what happens. The computer boots, I press the F12 key, the computer presents a list of bootable devices, I choose the ethernet NIC.The computer PXE boots - it recieves an DHCP address from our server, downloads boot.wim, downloads the boot.winPE.boot.wim file and then starts winPE on the X240. It gets to "Preparing Network Connections", hangs there for a while, and then it reboots. If I use the F8 option and run ipconfig, it reports "Windows IP Configuration" and nothing else. If I run /renew it says "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation". There seems to be no NIC available to winPE to start the Task Sequence with.I have downloaded the Windows 8 x64 Network driver and the Windows 7 x64 enterprise driver package Network driver from Lenovo, for this model and injected the Network drivers in the WinPe boot file. Neither of these drivers is working with the Network Interface in winPE. We do not have any problems with any other models, they all install with our SCCM 2012 SP1. Is there anyone who have experienced and resolved this? Kind regardsNick
Hello, I experiencing the strikly same situation with the same configuration :- SCCM 2012 SP1,- SCCM 2012 SP1 Boot Image x86 4.0,- Lenovo X240,- Drivers Lenovo SCCM package for Windows 7 (32-bit) http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/downloads/ds038819- Task Sequence W7x86. No problem when deploying an adaptated Task Sequence with Lenovo X250. However, WinPE don't allowing the network adapter to get a TCP IP configuration when deploying with Lenovo X240. To resolve this situation, do you use :- the standard boot image in the Windows 8 DVD or a customized one with Windows ADK ?- your boot image is this a x86 type or x64 ?- In case of a customized Boot Image, have you, please, some advice to give to use Windows ADK ? Best regards

Automatically mount a network drive upon login
Hi All,
Can anyone help!
I want to automatically mount a network drive when a network user logs in.
Client OSX10.4.9
Network drive/share is samba based.
Network user is LDAP based (Novell eDirectory)
I currently have the following working:
An eDirectory (LDAPv3) user logs in & authenticates ok.
Mounting the network drive/share works ok MANUALY, with the following
smb://IPorDNS
user is then prompted for their password (I want this automated @ login preferably)
What I need is some help automating this smb mounting @ login time using the users ldap Username/Password. I guess this would need to be done using an Applescript of sorts, but I'm stuck as to how to take this forward..!
cifs://workgroup;Username:Password@IPorDNS/profile
The above works manually, but how do I go about swapping the Username:Password for environment variables, and then packaging this into a script/application that runs during login..???
TIA
Danny
Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)Hi Matt,
Yes that would work for a single user that wants the same mount everytime but not for multiple network users, as the path changes for each user...
e.g.
/networkserver/usersarea/user1
/networkserver/usersarea/user2
/networkserver/usersarea/user3
etc
I think I need something like Actioscript apps to run during the login process...
TIA

I have a second gen Apple TV that I just purchased and I am having trouble seeing my network drive on it. I have a western digital mybook world edition external hard drive that is configured as an itunes server, it is plugged into the network and is visible to itunes.
is there a solution to this?
Message was edited by: remi-jIf you mean that you are expecting the Apple TV to connect directly to the network drive, that's not possible. An Apple TV can stream only from iTunes. You need to set the Apple TV up to stream from iTunes on your computer.

Hello,
When trying to connect to my emac running 10.3.9 I only see my user account not my hard drive or my external 120gb lacie drive.
All other machines on my network show the drive and their users account when the panel comes up to select what drive to mount but when trying to connect to mine (from any other machine) only shows my user account.
This leads me to think that its a problem with mine.
How can I sort this? it sound like permissions?
ThanksBought a new mac to solve issue

Cannot print file to network drive.
Hello...I've searched the forum and have not seen this specific question. My company recently upgraded to Windows 7 and we use Acrobat X. When we print from something such as Outlook, Word, notepad, etc., then select Adobe PDF as the printer...then select the location to print to as a network drive, it always fails. The printer icon has a yellow sign with an exclamation point, and when you open the printer properties, it just says "Error printing". If you select a local drive, such as C:\temp, it works fine. It's not a permission issue, because I have full admin rights, and it still fails. We have multiple users trying to do this, and it's the same for everyone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This part is not working when you choose a location other than a local disk.
opening document to print > selecting adobe pdf printer > saving file to network drive > print
The job sits in the print queue, stating an error and I not been able to determine what the error is.
What I did just find out that worked is using the Acrobat Office addin "Create PDF". I am running office 2007. -
Hi all, I'm trying to configure MEM with JES 2005Q4. I had configured the backend to handle virtual domains, I can create domains and users form the Delegate UI. Also, in the frontend the UWC is configured and I can logon and access the default domain throughout this interface. But when I try to access a virtual domain, I can NOT login, an error message appear in the messaging http log file in both front and backend. As I see in the AM logs files, the session is created but is not able to access the UWC UI. Below, are more details about this config.
I saw a couple of message related this issue but they dont help.

(window 7 also have this problem. However, i can click the drive and it can reconnect quictly.i cannot do this in window 8.1.......it loop again)
thanksHi,
How did you map the network drive? Manually via GUI? Command? GPP? If you're using one of the above solutions, then try other solutions as a alternative way to check the result.
According to your description, If Windows remains unable to reconnect mapped Network Drive at login, then I would suggest you created a batch file with net use command, use it as an logon script, this provides an alternate way to reconnect drives on
a re-logon.
example
@echo off
net use * /delete /yes
net use x: \\server_name\shared_directory_name

One user can not map a network drive
Hi,
A costumer of mine is trying to map a network drive for an existing user that has always had access to the NSS6000 Network Storage Device. This still works for all other users except this one. It looks like an authentication failure. They connect thru CFIS (which means it's using the active directory).
So far i have troubleshooted the following and ran out of options half an hour ago.
I rebooted the NAS. No luck.
I made a different folder and gave the user access. And tried to connect to that. No luck. (to confirm its not related to the folder security)
I tried to map the drive on a different computer. No luck. (to confirm its not a local computer problem)
I tried to map the drive to another folder on a different server, this worked fine. (to confirm credentials are correct).
I tried to remove the user on the NSS600 and tried to update it. The user reappeared instantly in the user list on the NAS. No luck.
I fear the user table the NSS keeps is corrupted. And i can't find a way to force the NAS to recreate it based on current folder security or active directory users.
Please help, as i am in no mood to reconfigure the entire NAS.
Kind regards,
Tim SarsHi,

Why can't Lightroom open or create a catalog on a network drive?
I just filled up my external drive and spent over $1300 on a Drobo NAS to find out Lightroom can't open or create a catalog on a network drive? EPIC FAIL!!!!
How do I store over 8 TB of catalogs on my NAS and still be able to access them? Do I need to copy the catalogs and pictures from a local drive to a NAS, then copy them back to my local drive if I ever want to use them?
I can't believe this is the case. There really is no reason you shouldn't be able to store a catalog on a network drive. How do I fix or get around this?Yes, I really have 8 TB of photography. Its from the past 10 years of dozens of worldwide photography jobs. Granted, not all of it is in Lightroom yet, but much of it is. I used Aperture until Apple abandoned all of its professional software development and have been moving to Lightroom for a while now. Aperture is able to use the NAS as a storage drive, no problem and it uses a database as well, so I really don't see why Lightroom can't do it.
I have an 8 TB Drobo connected by Firewire to my iMac and storing photos on it for Lightroom (and Aperture prior to that) and it works fine. But it's filling up and I wanted some archive storage so I didn't have to have Lightroom catalogs and Aperture libraries on it I really don't use on a regular basis. So I got the Drobo FS800 loaded up with 12 TB of space as a network storage server to make sure everything is safely backed up. I am slowly converting my old Aperture libraries to Lightroom, one at a time as well as using Lightroom for everything I have done for about the last two years.
But it is completely impractical to have to store the pictures and catalog on the NAS Drobo, then have to copy it all over to a local drive if I ever want to find a photograph in on a Lightroom catalog. It will takes hours if not a day to do that, just so I can open it. So I may see if I can store the pictures on the NAS Drobo but keep the catalog on the local Drobo. But I hate the idea of not keeping everything together. It something happens and the shots getting separated from the catalog, I have no idea what will happen or if it will be easy to re-connect the media. I also want to keep a backup of the catalog, but I think the built-in catalog vaults will do that.
But again, Apple's Aperture could keep everything together and has not problem pulling it off a NAS, local drive or anywhere. Really hard to imagine why Adobe can't do the same thing, especially since Aperture is overall so obsolete in every other way to Lightroom by now. Guess I need to try a few things and see if I can make this work. But really not comfortable splitting catalogs up on different drives than the picture files are located. -

Hi,
I have a windows 2008 R2 Enterprise servers with standalone MS-SQL 2008 R2 named instance. The server is having two networks, once production and the second for backup. The server FQDN is resolving to the production IP. The backup NIC
DNS dynamic update is disabled and an "A" record is registered with the dns. While trying to connect to the instance using the management studio:
Successfuly able to connect using the instance name, the production hostname, production IP and backup IP.
but while trying to connect to the insance using the backup hostname getting the below error:
"Login failed. The login is an untrusted domain and cannot be used with windows authentication. (Microsoft SQL server, Error: 18452) "
This is required for the backup tool to get connected using the backup FQDN of the server.
Should I need to create a host name alias, request you to kindly assist me with the best recommedation to fix this.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dbrowne/archive/2012/05/21/how-to-add-a-hostname-alias-for-a-sql-server-instance.aspxHi,
It might be a kerberos issue. Check that there are valid SPN's registered using the setspn utility - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731241.aspx

I've been dabbling in the Powershell BizTalk Provider Extensions for some automation of deployment and such. So far it's pretty cool on a local machine, but the real benefits to me would be to do it remotely. Does anyone have any experience in the with the
following issue?
My BizTalk Server and SQL Servers are on separate machines which I think is the issue, but I don't know how to resolve. I've tried to provided credentials to the New-PSDrive command, but get the following errors:
The provider does not support the use of credentials. Perform the operation again without specifying credentials.
I'm trying to manage a remote BizTalk instance. The machine running the script has biztalk fully configured and can connect
to the Target Server just fine. The issue comes when I try to mount the "BizTalk:" drive
Enter-pssession -computername myServer -configurationname microsoft.powershell32
$InitializeDefaultBTSDrive = $false;
Remove-PSSnapin -Name BizTalkfactory.PowerShell.Extensions;
Add-PSSnapin -Name BizTalkfactory.PowerShell.Extensions;
New-PSDrive -Name BizTalk -PSProvider BizTalk -Root "BizTalk:\" -Instance mySqlServer -Database BizTalkMgmtDb -Scope Global
When it get to the New-PSDrive I get the following error:
New-PSDrive : Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
+ CategoryInfo : InvalidArgument: (BizTalk:PSDriveInfo) [New-PSDrive], BtsException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : 0,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.NewPSDriveCommand
Has anyone experienced this and solved? The same error occurs when use Invoke-Command as well.It seems that the PowerShell provider is not Microsoft Support, it is community supported through the CodePlex site -
http://psbiztalk.codeplex.com
Right, I posted there as well, but there is not much movement on the site. I was hoping to find if this larger community may have had some experience with the provider. -
Hi,
With my colleagues we are using a dictation/transcription software which automatically creates files, moves them from folders to folders and deletes them. Until now, all this was done on a network drive, but the drive will soon be unavailable and
we will eventually have to use a SharePoint document library instead, and I am currently testing this option.
I have created a document library (with no versioning and no check out required) and I mapped it as a drive in Windows Explorer to link the SharePoint folders with the dictation software. Everything seems to work fine except
for one thing: when the dictation software tries to move files from one folder to another, the files are pasted in the destination folder but not deleted from the original folder and an error message pops up saying "delete operation has failed".
So the softaware is able to automatically create new content in the document library but is unable to automatically delete (I can however delete manually through the software interface).
Any idea on what is causing this issue and how to solve it?
Thank youHi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the documents cannot be deleted in the original folder when using the software with SharePoint library.
I recommend to verify the things below:
Which credential did you use to map the document library as network drive?
If the credential was windows logon, then I recommend to check if the documents can be deleted in the network drive which was connected to SharePoint library directly.
If the documents can be deleted in the network drive which was connected to SharePoint library, then the issue may be due to the compatibility problem between the software and WebDAV. Then you need to check the issue using third-party software provider.
Best regards.
Thanks
