Network Drive Permission Problem on Single Computer

I am setting up a user on a new computer. On our computers we have four mapped drives. One of these is a personal drive which only he has access to. He can open three of the four mapped drives without a problem, but he cannot open the personal mapped drive.
It says he does not have permission. What makes this weird though is he has no problem accessing the drive from any other computer. It is singularly a problem on this one computer only.
The One X

I was able to figure out the problem. I was unaware there is a "Work Offline" button for network drives (I'm a developer not a network guy). Apparently the previous user had pressed that button, and it has an affect on the whole computer no matter
what user you logged in as. When you click on the drive to access it the warning doesn't say anything about working offline or give any hint to it being a problem. Kind of a poorly implemented feature by Microsoft I would think.
Thanks for the help Acreed, going through your suggestions did help me to discover the problem as the "Offline Files" tab only appears when logged in as Administrator and navigating to the drive in Explorer. It really angers me that Microsoft made
something so simply so difficult to know what the issue is.

  • Bouncing network drive at startup on Russian computer

    Hello!
I have a friend who recently converted to Apple and is having some problems. As a long time Mac user I promised him I would help rectify this problem as quick as possible. Upon startup, he has 3 drives, his mac drive, his windows drive, and some random bouncing drive with a picture of the world above it. He is using one of the new imacs and thus far I have not been able to help him get rid of this pesky drive. It will bounce for around 2 minutes and then stop. At that time he is able to login. So what do I need to do to stop this thing from showing up and bouncing for 2 minutes so he can immediately login to either his mac drive or his windows drive. Also on a side note, he gets constant pop-ups from keychain about something. How do I turn all these keychain pop-ups off? I wish I could be more specific, but I work in the circus in China and my friend is Russian and has his whole Mac in Russian. Our communication is limited since I only understand a little Russian and can only be of minimal help. He speaks fine English but translating the Russian error messages to English gets lost in translation. I know this is a lot but any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

It's probably attempting to boot from a network drive which has been selected as the default.
    This is easy to fix:
In the System Preferences, open Startup Disk and select Mac OS X as the default and that should resolve your issue.

  • Export-VM to a network share permission problems

    Hello,
I am just getting into scripting backups of Hyper-V VMs using Powershell. I have using 2008 R for the Hyper-V host and 2008 R2 for the server with the network share. I am using Powershell Management Library. I have been able to export the VMs up to the local
VM host. However, I have not been successful in exporting  to a network share. I get the stock message:
"Failed to create export directory with error 'General access denied error'(0x80070005): MyVMtoExport (98504EFC-2B8A-43A8-A14D-999B78CFB736)
    Failed to create export directory."
I have read about and applied NTFS and share permissions on the folder on the network share. I have given full control to my domain account, the domain Admin account, as well as the machine account of the Hyper-V host.
I have been able to (as the same user), xcopy files from the Hyper-V host to the share. I have also been able to export the VM from Hyper-V manager to the share.
I have gone back an forth checking permissions, but can't seem to export the VM as myself or as the Hyper-V host machine account.

    Hi ,
I assume that the logged user can manager hyper-v and it has proper share/ntfs permission on share folder (also the computer account ).
Please run powershell.exe directly on hyper-v host do not "run as administrator" then export the VM   .
BTW , here is a script for exporting .

    Hope it helps

  • MacPro/multiple OS drives permission problems? Need Help

    Hi,
I am running a MacPro with both a Lepoard and Snow Leopard OS drives.
I had a folder of image files on my Leopard desktop which I want to dupelicate on my Snow Leopard desktop to test my photo applications setup which I am trying to mirror on Snow Leopard drive. I copied the folder full of image files onto my SL desktop by dragging it from the actiuve Leopard desktop and onto the desktop folder of the Snow Leopard drive.
When I booted into Snow Leopard and tried to import the images from the folder into Adobe LightRoom the application said that the import could not take plca due to missing image files... even though I could see the preview image files.
I next tried to open the desktop folder on my Leopard drive... while I could see the folder I could not see what I knew was in it.
A LightRoom guru said it sounded like a permissions problem... that if I had copied the floder full of image files to an external drive or thumb drive and THEN onto SL then it should work..
My question is this... How do I or even should I set permissions so that I can access and transfer files between the Leopard and Snow Leopard drives without worrying about premissions? It would be nice if I could look at the contents of my Leopard Desktop while booted in SL.
How do I make these changes?
    Thanks

    Baltwo,
On a single OS system, if any user tries to access the home folder of another user, they will see the do not enter logo on the folders. Great, we have file security.
However, along with the user name, there is also a number assigned to each account. To the OS, the number is the important thing, not the username.
    On a multi-OS system, that's a problem.
The number controls several things, including file access, regardless of user name. The numbering sequence is the same in 10.5 and 10.6.
User account 1 is user account 1, regardless of the name behind the number.
Therefore, if user account 1 is john under 10.6,
    but
user account 1 is mary under 10.5,
then when mary is logged in, she will have access to her own files under 10.5, AND johns files on the 10.6 drive. Mary will not see the do not enter in Johns home folders.
Similarly, john will have access to both his files under 10.6, and marys files under 10.5, and will not see the do not enter signs on Marys home folders.

  • Network driver attachment booting cdrom single user mode

I am attempting to boot from cdrom in single user mode and reach some network shares. However, when I boot cdrom, the server does not attach the network drivers, meaning I cannot plumb up any of my interfaces.
Now, I should add that we have an XVR-300 card in an XAUI PCI-E slot. I read somewhere that this can disable one of your network ports, but shouldn't it still see the other ports and attach the network drivers?
Any body have any ideas or anything I could try?
    Thanks!

  • Whole computer slows down drastically when network drive is mounted

Firstly, I hope I'm asking this in the right place. I'm using a MacBook with a Time Capsule and a 1.5TB USB drive attached to the Time Capsule as a wireless network drive. Whenever the network drive is connected, my whole computer runs intolerably slowly. Even if no program is actually using files from the network drive and the drive itself is silent and unused, my computer still crawls along agonizingly slowly. Yet if I plug the drive directly into the MacBook there's no problem whatsoever.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on and how I can cure the problem?
    In case it counts:
    MacBook: running OS 10.6.5, 2.2GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
    Network: 802.11n, WPA2 Personal.
Hard Disk: LaCie, 1.5TB USB 2.0
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Thanks. Away on holiday right now, but will do it as soon as I get back next week.
Out of curiosity, the external drive works fine when connected directly via USB to the laptop. I took that to mean that the problem wasn't to do with the drive, but probably the network. Is it possible there could be a problem with the drive which only shows up when it's used as a network drive?

  • Adobe files missing from network drive after editing...

Problem started around June 1st.  PDF files are shared on the network drive.  After I edit one of the forms and resave it, the networked computers can no longer see the file listed on the network drive.  Only the hosting computer still sees them.  Also, if I resave one of the files as a new name, it will reappear on the network.  Any ideas?  Adobe Reader 11.0.03

Yes, the problem is still continuing. However, after looking into as much of it as I can, I can confirm something that r.p.b_ started stumbling on. The files are deleted IF AND ONLY IF a user is using the built-in Windows 7 disc burning utility AND is dragging
and dropping the files to the drive from a network share; this doesn't happen locally. If you watch what happens in the native folder, the files are literally scrubbed from the drive as they are processed and added to the image. However, if you Right Click
on the files and copy them, then Right Click->Paste onto the drive, they remain. (The keyboard shortcuts also worked.) Also, 3rd party disc burning utilities function they way the should. (In other words, they don't delete the files.)
My speculation is that there's a bug in the coding that sees the network share as a temporary buffer file while the image is being prepared. Then, as the files are processed in what ever way is needed, the "temporary buffer" is being deleted. The result:
lost files on a network share. But, this is just speculation.

  • Interaction of Bridge and Network drive?

    Hi All:
I just put a 1T byte network attached drive in my system and moved all my
photos and rebuilt cache for Bridge on that drive. I did this so I could
access my files from my main computer or laptop on my wireless network. All
seem to work as it should except that since I did this Bridge is crashing
often. There seems to be no pattern. Sometime with in seconds of opening it
will popup a message that it has a problem and needs to close. Other times
I will be in CS3 editing with Bridge idle in the background and it will do
the same thing. Is this a known problem, or am I seeing something new? Ive
not had a big problem with crashes before. It did crash but not very often.
Now its doing every time I use it. Im running XP on both computers with
2gigs of memory in each. The drivers are up to date on both computers. The
network drive is WD world book. This cant be that strange of a thing to do
so Bridge should be able to handle it.
    John Passaneau

In most cases I am doing nothing in Bridge when it crashes. More that half
the time Im in Photoshop editing and Bridge is in the background idle and
it goes by by. One thing I notice, when I restart Bridge it comes up in the
folder or task that was were I was the time before it crashed. That is if I
was in directory A, then went to B and while I was in B it cashed. When it
restarts it will be in A, not B like it normally would. As for the drive
speed when I'm on the laptop it's a wireless connection. On the desk top
it's a hard wired connection to the router of about 6' or 2m you choose.
This is a local network and I'm the only user. I can notice the speed
difference when I load or save photos as there is no way a network drive is
as fast as a local drive in a computer.
But then I'm only using the network drive to store files and Bridges cache.
Photoshop and Bridges scratch disk are on local disks in the respective
computers. The desk top scratch disk is on a separate high speed disk which
is shared only with windows scratch file. These are both older computers
but they fast enough to run Photoshop well. My thought is there is some
interaction between the World Book network drive and Bridge but figuring
out what to do about it is going to be tough. A network drive is in essence
a computer/hard drive/network interface in a box. In this one the computer
is running Linux. In fact I can access this drive from anywhere even here
    at work through the network.

  • Web Service on Network drive

    Hi!
I found a problem in PB 12.5 Classic with Web Service on Network drive.
    Problem:
    1- I maped a network drive E:
    2- I created a Web Service on E:\WStest
3- The WS loads a .JPG file into a DW. So, the WS save the DW as a PDF.
4- The JPG file is in E:\image.jpg
5- I added the image.jpg on "Resouce Files" into the WS project
6- I deploy the WS and run
7- When I open the PDF file. The image does't appear.
I did other test, but on this test, I put the JPG file in C: and it works.
When I put the images on E:, PB creates this path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\WStest_root\file\common\E and put the image.jpg into this path.
When I put the images on C:, PB creates this path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\WStest_root\file\common\C and put the image.jpg into this path.
I started the Process Monitor and run the WS. The WS doesn't search the image.jpg in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\WStest_root\file\common\E. The WS just search the image.jpg in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\WStest_root\file\common\C.
Somebody knows how can inform this error to be fixed? My PB support expired.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Pedro Soares

    Hi Pedro;
The WebService.INI file is included with the framework. Have a look for it after you unzip the contents from SourceForge.
    Note:
    1) The <name> parameter is replaced with the contents of the "is_workspace_name" instance variable.
    2) Make sure the WebService.ini file is included in the "Resource Files" tab of your Project object.
    3) Make sure the value of your "is_workspace_name" matches the folder name of your PB target.
      - for example: you store your WorkSpace & Target PB files in "C:\Dev\PB125\WSTest"
then make sure you set ...   is_workspace_name = "WSTest"
    4) After migrating the framework (deployed in PB 12.1) - make sure that you change "nc_iis_master" class instance variable  is_pb_expected_version = '12.5.2.5629' to match your version of PB.
Tip: Set the "ib_session_logging" variable to TRUE to see the log from the framework.
    HTH

  • IWeb and Network drive.

    Simple question.
How do I tell to iWeb to use/import a photo/movie stored over a network drive in my private lan?
Don't tell me that I need to import all of them before...... I can't!
    Thanks in advance.

    Simple question.
How do I tell to iWeb to use/import a photo/movie
stored over a network drive in my private lan?
If the network drive is attached to another computer then you have to mount the drive on the Finder desktop of the computer you are running iWeb on. Use the Finder Go menu to connect to the other computer. You may also need to set System Preferences>Sharing to allow file sharing over the network.

  • Multiple users on single computer mounting same RAID drive

    Hi I'm a newbie:)
I have multiple users on a single computer which need to mount the same RAID drive on a different networked computer. I have no problem making the mounts, the only thing is that when each user makes its mount the drive appears multiple times when doing an ls /Volumes. Ie, the first user mounts sparkle and it appears as sparkle. The second user mounts sparkle and it appears as sparkle-1. The third user mounts sparkle and it appears as sparkle-2. In the finder they all show up as just plain sparkle, but for running scripts, the hyphen-# screws things up. Does anyone know of a way to have the same drive mounted without the hyphen-#s?
    Many thanks!
    Megan

What kind of scripts? I don't think there's any way around the naming problem, but you could use regular expressions. I don't see why sparkle* shouldn't do the trick, or add sparkle-[0-9$] to whatever constuct you have.

  • BEFW11s4 Computer permission problems (I think)

I have two desktops and a wireless laptop connected through my BEFW11s4 router.  Everything worked perfectly until I unhitched everything to move the computers around my office.  After I reconnected everything I ended up with the following:  All three computers can see the internet, the two desktops can use the printer which is attached to one of the desktops.  The wireless laptop can't print anymore and none of the computers can access each other.  I have tried re-running the network set up wizard but that hasn't worked.  HELP !!!

I have found the windows firewalls and turned them off. The second computer can now see everything on the first computer.  The first computer can see that the second computer is on the network but I cannot access anything. (see message below)  I have re-set the hard drive to "sharing" mode (click my computer, right click on C drive, highlight sharing and security etc...) but it still doesn't work. I am wondering if the McAfee program is still blocking access. I opened up McAfee and had it look for computers on the network.  It found the first computer and shows it connected to the network via the router.  I clicked to allow access to/from the network, but I still have the error message problem.  Any ideas? Thanks!
\\secondcomputer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found.

  • Network Permission problem??

Hi everyone. I have a problem I am trying to solve with my Mac network.
I have three computers going through a 802.11n router.
Computer A: is an iMac just purchased.
Computer B: is a Mac mini my wife uses.
Computer C: is a Macbook Pro
I have a users account on all three computers.
I type a sermon on computer C and want to save it to an external Hard Drive that is located on Computer A. I am connected on that computer as well through my user account and see it on my computer C. When I try and save the file I get a message to the affect I don't have permission to perform that operation. I have check my permissions on the external drive by choosing it when on Computer A and making sure the user account has read and write permission. I tried to see the Network from Computer B and can't get it to see the other computers. I can from the other computers get to Computer B and save files to Hard Drives connected to it. I do need to solve the A to C problem though. Any ideas what I might need to do? Don't say buy a PC or get Windows 7 I don't want to go there.
Thanks in advance for your help

Normally external drives are set to ignore permissions altogether. Can you save the file from Computer A - the machine attached to the drive?
It sounds like the drive has FAT formatting or something and doesn't like the characters in the file name.
